1
והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עם יונה תנינות למימר:
lmymr thnynwth ywnh em yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came to Jonah the second time, saying,

קום אזיל לנינוה קרתא רבתא ואתנבי עלה ית נבואתא די אנא ממליל עמך:
emk mmlyl ana dy nbwatha yth elh wathnby rbtha qrtha lnynwh azyl qwm
“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”

וקם יונה ואזל לנינוה כפתגמא דיי ונינוה הות קרתא רבתא קדם יי מהלך תלתא יומין:
ywmyn thltha mhlk yy qdm rbtha qrtha hwth wnynwh dyy kpthgma lnynwh wazl ywnh wqm
So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to Yahweh’s word. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.

ושרי יונה למיעל בקרתא מהליך יומא חד ואכריז ואמר בסוף ארבעין יומין ונינוה מתהפכא:
mthhpka wnynwh ywmyn arbeyn bswp wamr wakryz khd ywma mhlyk bqrtha lmyel ywnh wshry
Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

והימינו אנשי נינוה במימרא דיי וגזרו צומא ואסרו שקין מרבהון ועד זעריהון:
zeryhwn wed mrbhwn shqyn wasrw tswma wgzrw dyy bmymra nynwh anshy whymynw
The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

ומטא פתגמא לות מלכא דנינוה וקם מכורסי מלכותיה ואעדי לבושי יקריה מניה ואתכסי שקא ויתיב על קיטמא:
qyTma el wythyb shqa wathksy mnyh yqryh lbwshy waedy mlkwthyh mkwrsy wqm dnynwh mlka lwth pthgma wmTa
The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

ואכריז ואמר בנינוה מגזירת מלכא ורברבנוהי למימר אנשא ובעירא תורא וענא לא יטעמון מדעם ולא ירעון ומיא לא ישתון:
yshthwn la wmya yrewn wla mdem yTemwn la wena thwra wbeyra ansha lmymr wrbrbnwhy mlka mgzyrth bnynwh wamr wakryz
He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

ויתכסון סקין אנשא ובעירא ויצלון קדם יי בתקוף ויתובון גבר מאורחיה בישתא ומן חטופא דבידיהון:
dbydyhwn khTwpa wmn byshtha mawrkhyh gbr wythwbwn bthqwp yy qdm wytslwn wbeyra ansha sqyn wythkswn
but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

מן ידע דאית בידיה חובין יתוב מנהון ויתרחים עלוהי מן קדם יי ויתוב מתקוף רוגזיה ולא נובד:
nwbd wla rwgzyh mthqwp wythwb yy qdm mn elwhy wythrkhym mnhwn ythwb khwbyn bydyh dayth yde mn
Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”

וגלן קדם יי עובדיהון ארי תבו מאורחתהון בישתא ותב יי מן בישתא די מליל למעבד להון ולא עבד:
ebd wla lhwn lmebd mlyl dy byshtha mn yy wthb byshtha mawrkhthhwn thbw ary ewbdyhwn yy qdm wgln
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.
