ܘܟܕ ܥܒܪ ܚܙܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܣܡܝܐ ܕܡܢ ܟܪܣ ܐܡܗ

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܪܒܢ ܡܢܘ ܚܛܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܘ ܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܕܟܕ ܣܡܐ ܢܬܝܠܕ
wsh'lwhy thlmydwhy w'mryn rbn mnw khT' hn' 'w 'bhwhy dkd sm' nthyld
His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܐ ܗܘ ܚܛܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܐܠܐ ܕܢܬܚܙܘܢ ܒܗ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ
'mr lhwn yshwe l' hw khT' wl' 'bhwhy 'l' dnthkhzwn bh ebdwhy d'lh'
Jesus answered,
“Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.

ܠܝ ܘܠܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ ܥܕ ܐܝܡܡܐ ܗܘ ܐܬܐ ܠܠܝܐ ܕܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܦܠܚ
ly wl' lmebd ebd' dmn dshdrny ed 'ymm' hw 'th' lly' d'nsh l' mshkkh lmplkh
I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

ܟܡܐ ܕܒܥܠܡܐ ܐܢܐ ܢܘܗܪܗ ܐܢܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ
km' dbelm' 'n' nwhrh 'n' delm'
While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

ܘܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܪܩ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܓܒܠ ܛܝܢܐ ܡܢ ܪܘܩܗ ܘܛܫ ܥܠ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ ܕܗܘ ܣܡܝܐ

When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud,

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܙܠ ܐܫܝܓ ܒܡܥܡܘܕܝܬܐ ܕܫܝܠܘܚܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܫܝܓ ܘܐܬܐ ܟܕ ܚܙܐ
w'mr lh zl 'shyg bmemwdyth' dshylwkh' w'zl 'shyg w'th' kd khz'
and said to him,
“Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

ܫܒܒܘܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܚܙܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܕܚܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܢܘ ܗܘ ܕܝܬܒ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܕܪ

The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind before, said, “Isn’t this he who sat and begged?”

ܐܝܬ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܗܘܝܘ ܘܐܝܬ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܕܡܐ ܕܡܐ ܠܗ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܕܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ
'yth d'mryn hww dhwyw w'yth d'mryn hww l' 'l' mdm' dm' lh hw dyn 'mr hw' d'n' 'n'
Others were saying, “It is he.” Still others were saying, “He looks like him.”
He said, “I am he.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܬܦܬܚ ܥܝܢܝܟ
'mryn lh 'ykn' 'thpthkh eynyk
They therefore were asking him, “How were your eyes opened?”

ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܫܡܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܥܒܕ ܛܝܢܐ ܘܛܫ ܠܝ ܥܠ ܥܝܢܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܙܠ ܐܫܝܓ ܒܡܝܐ ܕܫܝܠܘܚܐ ܘܐܙܠܬ ܐܫܝܓܬ ܘܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܝ

He answered, “A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me,
‘Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash.’ So I went away and washed, and I received sight.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܝܟܘ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ

Then they asked him, “Where is he?”
He said, “I don’t know.”

ܘܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܠܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܣܡܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܘܬ ܦܪܝܫܐ

They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees.

ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܘܬ ܕܝܢ ܫܒܬܐ ܟܕ ܥܒܕ ܛܝܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܦܬܚ ܠܗ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ
'ythyh hwth dyn shbth' kd ebd Tyn' yshwe wpthkh lh eynwhy
It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

ܘܬܘܒ ܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܟ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܛܝܢܐ ܣܡ ܥܠ ܥܝܢܝ ܘܐܫܝܓܬ ܘܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܝ
wthwb sh'lwhy prysh' 'ykn' 'thkhzy lk hw dyn 'mr lhwn Tyn' sm el eyny w'shygth w'thkhzy ly
Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܠܐ ܢܛܪ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܛܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܘܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܬ ܒܝܢܬܗܘܢ

Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” There was division among them.

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܬܘܒ ܠܗܘ ܣܡܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܕܦܬܚ ܠܟ ܥܝܢܝܟ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܗܘ
'mryn thwb lhw smy' 'nth mn' 'mr 'nth elwhy dpthkh lk eynyk 'mr lhwn 'n' 'mr 'n' dnby' hw
Therefore they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?”
He said, “He is a prophet.”

ܠܐ ܕܝܢ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܣܡܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܙܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܩܪܘ ܠܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܕܗܘ ܕܚܙܐ
l' dyn hymnw hww elwhy yhwdy' dsmy' hw' wkhz' edm' dqrw l'bhwhy dhw dkhz'
The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,

ܘܫܐܠܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܢ ܗܢܘ ܒܪܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܟܕ ܣܡܐ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܗܫܐ ܚܙܐ
wsh'lw 'nwn 'n hnw brkwn hw d'nthwn 'mryn 'nthwn dkd sm' 'thyld 'ykn' hsh' khz'
and asked them, “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”

ܥܢܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܗܢܘ ܒܪܢ ܘܕܟܕ ܣܡܐ ܐܬܝܠܕ
enw dyn 'bhwhy w'mrw ydeynn dhnw brn wdkd sm' 'thyld
His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܗܫܐ ܚܙܐ ܐܘ ܡܢܘ ܦܬܚ ܠܗ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܥܠ ܠܗ ܠܫܢܘܗܝ ܠܗ ܫܐܠܘ ܗܘ ܚܠܦ ܢܦܫܗ ܢܡܠܠ
'ykn' dyn hsh' khz' 'w mnw pthkh lh eynwhy l' ydeynn 'p hw el lh lshnwhy lh sh'lw hw khlp npshh nmll
but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

ܗܠܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܕܚܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܦܣܩܘ ܗܘܘ ܓܝܪ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܢܘܕܐ ܒܗ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܘ ܢܦܩܘܢܝܗܝ ܡܢ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ
hlyn 'mrw 'bhwhy mTl ddkhlyn hww mn yhwdy' psqw hww gyr yhwdy' d'n 'nsh nwd' bh dmshykh' hw npqwnyhy mn knwshth'
His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܡܪܘ ܐܒܗܘܗܝ ܕܥܠ ܠܗ ܠܫܢܘܗܝ ܠܗ ܫܐܠܘ

Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”

ܘܩܪܐܘܗܝ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܕܬܪܬܝܢ ܙܒܢܝܢ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܣܡܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܫܒܚ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܚܢܢ ܓܝܪ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܛܝܐ ܗܘ
wqr'why lgbr' dthrthyn zbnyn lhw d'ythwhy hw' smy' w'mryn lh shbkh l'lh' khnn gyr ydeynn dhn' gbr' khTy' hw
So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

ܥܢܐ ܗܘ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢ ܚܛܝܐ ܗܘ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܚܕܐ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܕܣܡܝܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܘܗܫܐ ܗܐ ܚܙܐ ܐܢܐ
en' hw w'mr lhwn 'n khTy' hw l' yde 'n' khd' dyn yde 'n' dsmy' hwyth whsh' h' khz' 'n'
He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܬܘܒ ܡܢܐ ܥܒܕ ܠܟ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܦܬܚ ܠܟ ܥܝܢܝܟ

They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܡܪܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܬܘܒ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܫܡܥ ܠܡܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܗܘܐ ܠܗ
'mr lhwn 'mrth lkwn wl' shmethwn mn' thwb tsbyn 'nthwn lmshme lm' 'p 'nthwn thlmyd' tsbyn 'nthwn lmhw' lh
He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܨܚܝܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܬܠܡܝܕܗ ܕܗܘ ܚܢܢ ܓܝܪ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܚܢܢ ܕܡܘܫܐ
hnwn dyn tskhywhy w'mryn lh 'nth hw thlmydh dhw khnn gyr thlmyd' khnn dmwsh'
They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

ܘܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܥܡ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܡܠܠ ܠܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܗܘ
wydeynn dem mwsh' 'lh' mll lhn' dyn l' ydeynn mn 'ymk' hw
We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”

ܥܢܐ ܗܘ ܓܒܪܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܗܕܐ ܗܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܡܬܕܡܪܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܗܘ ܘܥܝܢܝ ܕܝܠܝ ܦܬܚ
en' hw gbr' w'mr lhwn bhd' hw hkyl lmthdmrw d'nthwn l' ydeyn 'nthwn mn 'ymk' hw weyny dyly pthkh
The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

ܝܕܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܩܠܐ ܕܚܛܝܐ ܠܐ ܫܡܥ ܐܠܐ ܠܡܢ ܕܕܚܠ ܡܢܗ ܘܥܒܕ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܠܗܘ ܗܘ ܫܡܥ
ydeyn khnn dyn d'lh' bql' dkhTy' l' shme 'l' lmn ddkhl mnh webd tsbynh lhw hw shme
We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.

ܡܢ ܥܠܡ ܠܐ ܐܫܬܡܥܬ ܕܦܬܚ ܐܢܫ ܥܝܢܐ ܕܣܡܝܐ ܕܐܬܝܠܕ
mn elm l' 'shthmeth dpthkh 'nsh eyn' dsmy' d'thyld
Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.

ܐܠܘ ܠܐ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܢܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܗܘܐ ܗܕܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ
'lw l' mn 'lh' hw' hn' l' mshkkh hw' hd' lmebd
If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

ܥܢܘ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܟܠܟ ܒܚܛܗܐ ܐܬܝܠܕܬ ܘܐܢܬ ܡܠܦ ܐܢܬ ܠܢ ܘܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܒܪ
enw w'mryn lh 'nth klk bkhTh' 'thyldth w'nth mlp 'nth ln w'pqwhy lbr
They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” They threw him out.

ܘܫܡܥ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܒܪ ܘܐܫܟܚܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܡܗܝܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܒܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
wshme yshwe d'pqwhy lbr w'shkkhh w'mr lh 'nth mhymn 'nth bbrh d'lh'
Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said,
“Do you believe in the Son of God?”

ܥܢܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܬܐܣܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܘ ܡܪܝ ܕܐܗܝܡܢ ܒܗ

He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܚܙܝܬܝܗܝ ܘܗܘ ܕܡܡܠܠ ܥܡܟ ܗܘܝܘ
'mr lh yshwe khzythyhy whw dmmll emk hwyw
Jesus said to him,
“You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܗܝܡܢ ܐܢܐ ܡܪܝ ܘܢܦܠ ܣܓܕ ܠܗ

He said, “Lord, I believe!” and he worshiped him.

ܘܐܡܪ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܕܝܢܗ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܚܙܝܢ ܢܚܙܘܢ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܚܙܝܢ ܢܣܡܘܢ
w'mr yshwe ldynh delm' hn' 'thyth d'ylyn dl' khzyn nkhzwn w'ylyn dkhzyn nsmwn
Jesus said,
“I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”

ܘܫܡܥܘ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܡܗ ܗܘܘ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܠܡܐ ܐܦ ܚܢܢ ܣܡܝܐ ܚܢܢ

Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܠܘ ܣܡܝܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܗܫܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܚܙܝܢܢ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܚܛܝܬܟܘܢ ܩܝܡܐ ܗܝ
'mr lhwn yshwe 'lw smy' hwythwn lyth hwth lkwn khTyth' hsh' dyn 'mryn 'nthwn dkhzynn mTl hn' khTythkwn qym' hy
Jesus said to them,
“If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
