ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܗܠܟ ܗܘܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܓܠܝܠܐ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܨܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܗܠܟܘ ܒܝܗܘܕ ܡܛܠ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܩܛܠܗ

After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

ܘܩܪܝܒ ܗܘܐ ܥܕܥܕܐ ܕܡܛܠܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ
wqryb hw' eded' dmTl' dyhwdy'
Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܫܢܐ ܠܟ ܡܟܐ ܘܙܠ ܠܝܗܘܕ ܕܢܚܙܘܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܝܟ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ

His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.

ܠܝܬ ܓܝܪ ܐܢܫ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܕܡ ܒܛܘܫܝܐ ܘܨܒܐ ܗܘ ܕܒܓܠܝܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܐܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܚܘܐ ܢܦܫܟ ܠܥܠܡܐ
lyth gyr 'nsh debd mdm bTwshy' wtsb' hw dbgly' nhw' 'n hlyn ebd 'nth khw' npshk lelm'
For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”

ܐܦ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܗܘܘ ܒܗ ܒܝܫܘܥ

For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܙܒܢܝ ܕܝܠܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܛܐ ܙܒܢܟܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܝܠܟܘܢ ܒܟܠ ܥܕܢ ܡܛܝܒ
'mr lhwn yshwe zbny dyly edm' lhsh' l' mT' zbnkwn dyn dylkwn bkl edn mTyb
Jesus therefore said to them,
“My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܥܠܡܐ ܠܡܣܢܟܘܢ ܠܝ ܕܝܢ ܣܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܢܐ ܡܣܗܕ ܐܢܐ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܕܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܒܝܫܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ

The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

ܐܢܬܘܢ ܣܩܘ ܠܥܕܥܕܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܣܠܩ ܐܢܐ ܗܫܐ ܠܥܕܥܕܐ ܗܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܕܝܠܝ ܠܐ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܫܠܡ

You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”

ܗܠܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܘܦܫ ܠܗ ܒܓܠܝܠܐ

Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܣܠܩܘ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܠܥܕܥܕܐ ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܣܠܩ ܠܐ ܒܓܠܝܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܒܛܘܫܝܐ

But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܒܥܕܥܕܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܝܟܘ ܗܘ

The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”

ܘܪܛܢܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܛܠܬܗ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܟܢܫܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܛܒ ܗܘ ܘܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܛܥܐ ܠܥܡܐ

There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”

ܠܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫ ܓܠܝܐܝܬ ܡܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܚܠܬܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ

Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܦܠܓܘ ܝܘܡܬܐ ܕܥܕܥܕܐ ܣܠܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܡܠܦ ܗܘܐ

But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

ܘܡܬܕܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܢܐ ܣܦܪܐ ܟܕ ܠܐ ܝܠܦ
wmthdmryn hww yhwdy' w'mryn 'ykn' yde hn' spr' kd l' ylp
The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

ܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܝܘܠܦܢܝ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܠܝ ܐܠܐ ܕܗܘ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ

Jesus therefore answered them,
“My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

ܡܢ ܕܨܒܐ ܕܢܥܒܕ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܡܣܬܟܠ ܝܘܠܦܢܝ ܐܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܐܘ ܐܢܐ ܡܢ ܨܒܘܬ ܢܦܫܝ ܡܡܠܠ ܐܢܐ
mn dtsb' dnebd tsbynh msthkl ywlpny 'n mn 'lh' hw 'w 'n' mn tsbwth npshy mmll 'n'
If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

ܡܢ ܕܡܢ ܨܒܘܬ ܪܥܝܢܗ ܡܡܠܠ ܫܘܒܚܐ ܠܢܦܫܗ ܒܥܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܗ ܒܥܐ ܫܪܝܪ ܗܘ ܘܥܘܠܐ ܒܠܒܗ ܠܐ ܐܝܬ
mn dmn tsbwth reynh mmll shwbkh' lnpshh be' hw dyn dshwbkh' dmn dshdrh be' shryr hw wewl' blbh l' 'yth
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܟܘܢ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܢܛܪ ܢܡܘܣܐ

Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”

ܡܢܐ ܒܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܩܛܠܢܝ ܥܢܐ ܟܢܫܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܝܘܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟ ܡܢܘ ܒܥܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܟ

The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”

ܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܚܕ ܥܒܕܐ ܥܒܕܬ ܘܟܠܟܘܢ ܡܬܕܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ

Jesus answered them,
“I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܟܘܢ ܓܙܘܪܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢܗ ܗܝ ܡܢ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܡܢ ܐܒܗܬܐ ܗܝ ܘܒܫܒܬܐ ܓܙܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܪܢܫܐ
mTl hn' mwsh' yhb lkwn gzwrth' l' hw' mTl dmnh hy mn mwsh' 'l' dmn 'bhth' hy wbshbth' gzryn 'nthwn brnsh'
Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

ܐܢ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܡܬܓܙܪ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܢܫܬܪܐ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܡܘܫܐ ܥܠܝ ܪܛܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܟܠܗ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܐܚܠܡܬ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ
'n brnsh' mthgzr bywm' dshbth' mTl dl' nshthr' nmws' dmwsh' ely rTnyn 'nthwn dklh brnsh' 'khlmth bywm' dshbth'
If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܕܝܢܝܢ ܒܡܣܒ ܒܐܦܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܝܢܐ ܟܐܢܐ ܕܘܢܘ
l' thhwwn dynyn bmsb b'p' 'l' dyn' k'n' dwnw
Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܠܘ ܗܢܘ ܗܘ ܕܒܥܝܢ ܠܡܩܛܠ

Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?

ܘܗܐ ܓܠܝܐܝܬ ܡܡܠܠ ܘܡܕܡ ܠܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܕܠܡܐ ܝܕܥܘ ܩܫܝܫܝܢ ܕܗܢܘ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܡܫܝܚܐ
wh' gly'yth mmll wmdm l' 'mryn lh dlm' ydew qshyshyn dhnw shryr'yth mshykh'
Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?

ܐܠܐ ܠܗܢܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܬܝ ܕܐܬܐ ܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܝܕܥ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܗܘ
'l' lhn' ydeyn khnn mn 'ymk' hw mshykh' dyn 'mthy d'th' l' 'nsh yde mn 'ymk' hw
However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”

ܘܐܪܝܡ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܠܗ ܟܕ ܡܠܦ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܘܠܝ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܢܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܢ ܨܒܘܬ ܢܦܫܝ ܠܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܐܠܐ ܫܪܝܪ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ

Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying,
“You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.

ܐܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܠܗ ܕܡܢ ܠܘܬܗ ܐܢܐ ܘܗܘ ܫܕܪܢܝ

I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

ܘܒܥܘ ܠܡܐܚܕܗ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܪܡܝ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܐܝܕܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܐܬܬ ܗܘܬ ܫܥܬܗ

They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

ܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܟܢܫܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܗ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܡܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܠܡܐ ܕܝܬܝܪܢ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܗܢܐ ܥܒܕ
sgy'' dyn mn knsh' hymnw bh w'mryn mshykh' m' d'th' lm' dythyrn mn hlyn 'thwth' debd hn' ebd
But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”

ܘܫܡܥܘ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܕܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܚܫܐ ܕܢܐܚܕܘܢܝܗܝ

The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

ܘܐܡܪ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܠܝܠ ܬܘܒ ܙܒܢܐ ܥܡܟܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܢܐ ܠܘܬ ܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ
w'mr yshwe qlyl thwb zbn' emkwn 'n' w'zl 'n' lwth mn dshdrny
Then Jesus said,
“I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.

ܘܬܒܥܘܢܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܟܚܘܢܢܝ ܘܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܢܐ ܐܝܬܝ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܐܬܐ
wthbewnny wl' thshkkhwnny w'yk' d'n' 'ythy l' mshkkhyn 'nthwn lm'th'
You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܒܢܦܫܗܘܢ ܠܐܝܟܐ ܥܬܝܕ ܗܢܐ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܕܚܢܢ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܠܗ ܠܡܐ ܟܝ ܠܐܬܪܘܬܐ ܕܥܡܡܐ ܥܬܝܕ ܕܢܐܙܠ ܘܢܠܦ ܠܚܢܦܐ
'mryn yhwdy' bnpshhwn l'yk' ethyd hn' lm'zl dkhnn l' mshkkhyn khnn lh lm' ky l'thrwth' demm' ethyd dn'zl wnlp lkhnp'
The Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

ܡܢܐ ܗܝ ܗܕܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܬܒܥܘܢܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܟܚܘܢܢܝ ܘܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܢܐ ܐܝܬܝ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܐܬܐ
mn' hy hd' mlth' d'mr dthbewnny wl' thshkkhwnny w'yk' d'n' 'ythy 'nthwn l' mshkkhyn 'nthwn lm'th'
What is this word that he said,
‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’?”

ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܝܢ ܪܒܐ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܐܚܪܝܐ ܕܥܕܥܕܐ ܩܐܡ ܗܘܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܩܥܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܨܗܐ ܢܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܢܫܬܐ
bywm' dyn rb' d'ythwhy 'khry' deded' q'm hw' yshwe wqe' w'mr 'n 'nsh tsh' n'th' lwthy wnshth'
Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out,
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

ܟܠ ܡܢ ܕܡܗܝܡܢ ܒܝ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܡܪܘ ܟܬܒܐ ܢܗܪܘܬܐ ܕܡܝܐ ܚܝܐ ܢܪܕܘܢ ܡܢ ܟܪܣܗ

He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”

ܗܕܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܥܠ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܥܬܝܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܩܒܠܘ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܒܗ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܐܬܝܗܒܬ ܗܘܬ ܪܘܚܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܐܫܬܒܚ ܗܘܐ ܝܫܘܥ
hd' dyn 'mr el rwkh' dethydyn hww lmqblw 'ylyn dmhymnyn bh l' gyr edkyl 'thyhbth hwth rwkh' mTl dl' edkyl 'shthbkh hw' yshwe
But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

ܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܟܢܫܐ ܕܫܡܥܘ ܡܠܘܗܝ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܗܢܘ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܢܒܝܐ

Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”

ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܗܢܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܠܡܐ ܡܢ ܓܠܝܠܐ ܐܬܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ
'khrn' 'mryn hww hnw mshykh' 'khrn' 'mryn dlm' mn glyl' 'th' mshykh'
Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?

ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܟܬܒܐ ܐܡܪ ܕܡܢ ܙܪܥܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܡܢ ܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܝܠܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܐܬܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ
l' hw' kthb' 'mr dmn zreh ddwyd wmn byth-lkhm qryth' dylh ddwyd 'th' mshykh'
Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David,
and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

ܘܗܘܬ ܗܘܬ ܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܒܟܢܫܐ ܡܛܠܬܗ

So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܝܢ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܕܨܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܢܐܚܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܐܠܐ ܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܪܡܝ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܐܝܕܝܐ

Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.

ܘܐܬܘ ܕܚܫܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܠܘܬ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܦܪܝܫܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܗܢܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܚܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܡܬܘܡ ܗܟܢܐ ܡܠܠ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܡܠܠ ܓܒܪܐ ܗܢܐ

The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܠܡܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܛܥܝܬܘܢ

The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?

ܠܡܐ ܐܢܫ ܡܢ ܪܫܐ ܐܘ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܗ
lm' 'nsh mn rsh' 'w mn prysh' hymnw bh
Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܠܝܛܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ

But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is accursed.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܢܝܩܕܡܘܣ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܠܠܝܐ
'mr lhwn nyqdmws khd mnhwn hw d'th' hw' lwth yshwe blly'
Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,

ܕܠܡܐ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܝܠܢ ܡܚܝܒ ܠܒܪܢܫܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܢܫܡܥ ܡܢܗ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܘܢܕܥ ܡܢܐ ܥܒܕ

“Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”

ܥܢܘ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܠܡܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬ ܡܢ ܓܠܝܠܐ ܐܢܬ ܒܨܝ ܘܚܙܝ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܡܢ ܓܠܝܠܐ ܠܐ ܩܐܡ

They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”
