ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܗܘܐ ܥܕܥܕܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܘܣܠܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ

After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܬܡܢ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܕܡܥܡܘܕܝܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܥܒܪܐܝܬ ܒܝܬ-ܚܣܕܐ ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܗ ܚܡܫܐ ܐܣܛܘܝܢ
'sTwyn khmsh' bh hw' w'yth byth-khsd' ebr'yth dmthqry' dmemwdyth' khd' dwkth' b'wrshlm thmn dyn hw' 'yth
Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda”, having five porches.

ܘܒܗܠܝܢ ܪܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܟܪܝܗܐ ܘܣܡܝܐ ܘܚܓܝܣܐ ܘܝܒܝܫܐ ܘܡܣܟܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܙܘܥܐ ܕܡܝܐ
dmy' lzwe' hww wmskyn wybysh' wkhgys' wsmy' dkryh' sgy'' em' hww rmyn wbhlyn
In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;

ܡܠܐܟܐ ܓܝܪ ܒܙܒܢ ܙܒܢ ܢܚܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܠܡܥܡܘܕܝܬܐ ܘܡܙܝܥ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܝܐ ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܩܕܡܝܐ ܢܚܬ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܙܘܥܐ ܕܡܝܐ ܡܬܚܠܡ ܗܘܐ ܟܠ ܟܐܒܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ
lh hw' d'yth 'yn' k'b' kl hw' mthkhlm dmy' zwe' bthr mn hw' nkhth dqdmy' w'yn' lmy' lhwn hw' wmzye lmemwdyth' lh hw' nkhth zbn bzbn gyr ml'k'
for an angel went down at certain times into the pool, and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.

ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܬܡܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܕܬܠܬܝܢ ܘܬܡܢܐ ܫܢܝܢ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܟܘܪܗܢܐ

A certain man was there, who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

ܠܗܢܐ ܚܙܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܪܡܐ ܘܝܕܥ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܨܒܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܬܬܚܠܡ

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”

ܥܢܐ ܗܘ ܟܪܝܗܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܝܢ ܡܪܝ ܠܝܬ ܠܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫ ܕܡܐ ܕܐܬܬܙܝܥܘ ܡܝܐ ܢܪܡܝܢܝ ܒܡܥܡܘܕܝܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܥܕ ܐܢܐ ܐܬܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܚܪܝܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝ ܢܚܬ

The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܘܡ ܫܩܘܠ ܥܪܣܟ ܘܗܠܟ

Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”

ܘܒܪ ܫܥܬܗ ܐܬܚܠܡ ܓܒܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܩܡ ܫܩܠ ܥܪܣܗ ܘܗܠܟ ܘܗܘ ܗܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܫܒܬܐ ܗܘܬ
hwth shbth' ywm' hw whw whlk ersh shql wqm hw gbr' 'thkhlm shethh wbr
Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܬܐܣܝ ܫܒܬܐ ܗܝ ܠܐ ܫܠܝܛ ܠܟ ܕܬܫܩܘܠ ܥܪܣܟ

So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܥܒܕܢܝ ܚܠܝܡܐ ܗܘ ܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܕܫܩܘܠ ܥܪܣܟ ܘܗܠܟ
whlk ersk dshqwl ly 'mr hw khlym' debdny hw lhwn w'mr en' dyn hw
He answered them, “He who made me well, the same said to me, ‘Take up your mat, and walk.’”

ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܡܢܘ ܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܕܫܩܘܠ ܥܪܣܟ ܘܗܠܟ

Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat, and walk’?”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܬܐܣܝ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܡܢܘ ܝܫܘܥ ܓܝܪ ܐܬܓܢܝ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܟܢܫܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܕܘܟܬܐ ܗܝ
hy bdwkth' hw' d'yth sgy'' bknsh' lh hw' 'thgny gyr yshwe mnw hw' yde l' d'th'sy dyn hw
But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

ܒܬܪ ܙܒܢ ܐܫܟܚܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܗܐ ܚܠܝܡ ܐܢܬ ܬܘܒ ܠܐ ܬܚܛܐ ܕܠܡܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܒܝܫ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܐ
qdmy' mn dbysh mdm lk nhw' dlm' thkhT' l' thwb 'nth khlym h' lh w'mr bhykl' yshwe 'shkkhh zbn bthr
Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

ܘܐܙܠ ܗܘ ܓܒܪܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܗܘ ܗܘ ܕܐܚܠܡܗ
d'khlmh hw hw dyshwe lyhwdy' w'mr gbr' hw w'zl
The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

ܘܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܪܕܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܩܛܠܗ ܕܗܠܝܢ ܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܫܒܬܐ
bshbth' hw' ebd dhlyn lmqTlh hww wbeyn lyshwe yhwdy' hww rdpyn hd' wmTl
For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܒܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܥܒܕ ܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܥܒܕ ܐܢܐ

But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

ܘܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܗ ܠܐ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܕܫܪܐ ܗܘܐ ܫܒܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܦ ܕܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܘܡܫܘܐ ܗܘܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܥܡ ܐܠܗܐ

For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

ܥܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܒܪܐ ܥܒܕ ܡܕܡ ܡܢ ܨܒܘܬ ܢܦܫܗ ܐܠܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܚܙܐ ܠܐܒܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܒܐ ܥܒܕ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܦ ܒܪܐ ܐܟܘܬܗ ܥܒܕ

Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.

ܐܒܐ ܓܝܪ ܪܚܡ ܠܒܪܗ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܚܘܐ ܠܗ ܘܕܝܬܝܪܝܢ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܚܘܐ ܠܗ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܬܕܡܪܘܢ
ththdmrwn d'nthwn lh mkhw' ebd' hlyn mn wdythyryn lh mkhw' debd wklmdm lbrh rkhm gyr 'b'
For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܒܐ ܡܩܝܡ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܡܚܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܒܪܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܨܒܐ ܡܚܐ
mkh' dtsb' l'ylyn br' 'p hkn' lhwn wmkh' myth' mqym d'b' gyr 'ykn'
For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.

ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܐܒܐ ܕܐܢ ܠܐܢܫ ܐܠܐ ܟܠܗ ܕܝܢܐ ܝܗܒܗ ܠܒܪܐ
lbr' yhbh dyn' klh 'l' l'nsh d'n 'b' gyr hw' l'
For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,

ܕܟܠܢܫ ܢܝܩܪ ܠܒܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܝܩܪ ܠܐܒܐ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܡܝܩܪ ܠܒܪܐ ܠܐ ܡܝܩܪ ܠܐܒܐ ܕܫܕܪܗ
dshdrh l'b' myqr l' lbr' myqr dl' hw l'b' dmyqr 'yk lbr' nyqr dklnsh
that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him.

ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܡܢ ܕܫܡܥ ܡܠܬܝ ܘܡܗܝܡܢ ܠܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ ܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ ܘܠܕܝܢܐ ܠܐ ܐܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܫܢܝ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܡܘܬܐ ܠܚܝܐ
lkhy' mwth' mn lh shny 'l' 'th' l' wldyn' dlelm khy' lh 'yth dshdrny lmn wmhymn mlthy dshme dmn lkwn 'n' 'mr 'myn 'myn
“Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܐܬܝܐ ܫܥܬܐ ܐܦ ܗܫܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܐܡܬܝ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܢܫܡܥܘܢ ܩܠܗ ܕܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܕܫܡܥܝܢ ܢܚܘܢ
nkhwn dshmeyn whnwn d'lh' dbrh qlh nshmewn dmyth' 'mthy 'ythyh hsh' 'p sheth' d'thy' lkwn 'n' 'mr 'myn 'myn
Most certainly, I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܠܐܒܐ ܐܝܬ ܚܝܐ ܒܩܢܘܡܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܝܗܒ ܐܦ ܠܒܪܐ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܚܝܐ ܒܩܢܘܡܗ
bqnwmh khy' dnhwwn lbr' 'p yhb hkn' bqnwmh khy' 'yth dl'b' gyr 'ykn'
For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.

ܘܐܫܠܛܗ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܥܒܕ ܐܦ ܕܝܢܐ

He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

ܕܒܪܗ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܠܐ ܬܬܕܡܪܘܢ ܒܗܕܐ ܕܐܬܝܐ ܫܥܬܐ ܐܡܬܝ ܕܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܩܒܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܢܫܡܥܘܢ ܩܠܗ
qlh nshmewn 'nwn dbqbr' 'ylyn dklhwn 'mthy sheth' d'thy' bhd' ththdmrwn l' d'nsh' dyn hw dbrh
Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,

ܘܢܦܩܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܒܕܘ ܛܒܬܐ ܠܩܝܡܬܐ ܕܚܝܐ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܒܕܘ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܠܩܝܡܬܐ ܕܕܝܢܐ
ddyn' lqymth' byshth' debdw w'ylyn dkhy' lqymth' Tbth' debdw 'ylyn wnpqwn
and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܐ ܡܕܡ ܡܢ ܨܒܘܬ ܢܦܫܝ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܫܡܥ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܢ ܐܢܐ ܘܕܝܢܝ ܟܐܝܢ ܗܘ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܐ ܨܒܝܢܝ ܐܠܐ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܕܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ
dshdrny dmn tsbynh 'l' tsbyny 'n' be' gyr l' hw k'yn wdyny 'n' d'n 'n' dshme 'ykn' 'l' lmebd npshy tsbwth mn mdm 'n' mshkkh l'
I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.

ܐܢ ܐܢܐ ܡܣܗܕ ܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܢܦܫܝ ܣܗܕܘܬܝ ܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܫܪܝܪܐ
shryr' hwth l' shdwthy npshy el 'n' mshd 'n' 'n
“If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.

ܐܚܪܝܢ ܗܘ ܗܘ ܕܡܣܗܕ ܥܠܝ ܘܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܕܫܪܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܣܗܕܘܬܗ ܕܡܣܗܕ ܥܠܝ
ely dmshd shdwthh hy dshryr' 'n' wyde ely dmshd hw hw 'khryn
It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.

ܐܢܬܘܢ ܫܕܪܬܘܢ ܠܘܬ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܣܗܕ ܥܠ ܫܪܪܐ
shrr' el w'shd ywkhnn lwth shdrthwn 'nthwn
You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

ܐܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܢܣܒ ܐܢܐ ܣܗܕܘܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܚܘܢ
thkhwn d'nthwn 'n' 'mr hlyn 'l' shdwth' 'n' nsb brnsh' mn hw' l' dyn 'n'
But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.

ܗܘ ܫܪܓܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܕܠܩ ܘܡܢܗܪ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܨܒܝܬܘܢ ܕܬܫܬܒܗܪܘܢ ܕܫܥܬܐ ܒܢܘܗܪܗ
bnwhrh dsheth' dthshthbhrwn tsbythwn w'nthwn wmnhr ddlq hw' shrg' hw
He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

ܠܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܝܬ ܠܝ ܣܗܕܘܬܐ ܕܪܒܐ ܡܢ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܝ ܐܒܝ ܕܐܫܠܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܢܐ ܣܗܕܝܢ ܥܠܝ ܕܐܒܐ ܫܠܚܢܝ
shlkhny d'b' ely shdyn 'n' debd ebd' hnwn 'nwn d'shlm 'by ly dyhb gyr ebd' dywkhnn mn drb' shdwth' ly 'yth dyn ly
But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

ܘܐܒܐ ܕܫܠܚܢܝ ܗܘ ܣܗܕ ܥܠܝ ܠܐ ܩܠܗ ܡܡܬܘܡ ܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܚܙܘܗ ܚܙܝܬܘܢ
khzythwn khzwh wl' shmethwn mmthwm qlh l' ely shd hw dshlkhny w'b'
The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

ܘܡܠܬܗ ܠܐ ܡܩܘܝܐ ܒܟܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܗܘ ܕܗܘ ܫܕܪ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'nthwn mhymnyn l' 'nthwn shdr dhw dbhw mTl bkwn mqwy' l' wmlthh
You don’t have his word living in you; because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

ܒܨܘ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܒܗܘܢ ܡܣܒܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܣܗܕܝܢ ܥܠܝ
ely shdyn whnwn lkwn 'yth dlelm dkhy' 'nthwn msbryn dbhwn kthb' btsw
“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.

ܘܠܐ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܬܐܬܘܢ ܠܘܬܝ ܕܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܠܟܘܢ
lkwn nhwwn dlelm dkhy' lwthy dth'thwn 'nthwn tsbyn wl'
Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.
41
ܫܘܒܚܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܒ ܐܢܐ
'n' nsb l' 'nsh' bny mn shwbkh'
I don’t receive glory from men.
42
ܐܠܐ ܝܕܥܬܟܘܢ ܕܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ
bkwn lyth d'lh' dkhwbh ydethkwn 'l'
But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.

ܐܢܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܒܫܡܗ ܕܐܒܝ ܘܠܐ ܡܩܒܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܘܐܢ ܐܚܪܝܢ ܢܐܬܐ ܒܫܡ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܗܘ ܬܩܒܠܘܢ
thqblwn lhw npshh bshm n'th' 'khryn w'n ly 'nthwn mqblyn wl' d'by bshmh 'thyth 'n'
I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

ܠܡܐ ܣܒܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܢܐ ܐܟܠ ܐܢܐ ܩܪܨܝܟܘܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܒܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܢ ܕܐܟܠ ܩܪܨܝܟܘܢ ܡܘܫܐ ܗܘ ܕܒܗ ܣܒܪܬܘܢ
sbrthwn dbh hw mwsh' qrtsykwn d'kl mn 'ythwhy 'b' qdm qrtsykwn 'n' 'kl d'n' 'nthwn sbryn lm'
“Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.

ܐܠܘ ܓܝܪ ܒܡܘܫܐ ܗܝܡܢܬܘܢ ܐܦ ܒܝ ܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܡܘܫܐ ܓܝܪ ܥܠܝ ܟܬܒ
kthb ely gyr mwsh' hwythwn mhymnyn by 'p hymnthwn bmwsh' gyr 'lw
For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.

ܘܐܢ ܠܟܬܒܘܗܝ ܕܗܘ ܠܐ ܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܠܡܠܝ ܕܝܠܝ ܬܗܝܡܢܘܢ
thhymnwn dyly lmly 'ykn' 'nthwn mhymnyn l' dhw lkthbwhy w'n
But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
