So Pilate then took Jesus, and flogged him.

ܘܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܓܕܠܘ ܟܠܝܠܐ ܡܢ ܟܘܒܐ ܘܣܡܘ ܠܗ ܒܪܫܗ ܘܟܣܝܘܗܝ ܢܚܬܐ ܕܐܪܓܘܢܐ

The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown, and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܫܠܡ ܠܟ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܘܡܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܥܠ ܦܟܘܗܝ

They kept saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and they kept slapping him.

ܘܢܦܩ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܬܘܒ ܠܒܪ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܐ ܡܦܩ ܐܢܐ ܠܗ ܠܟܘܢ ܠܒܪ ܕܬܕܥܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܐ ܒܬܪܗ ܐܦܠܐ ܚܕܐ ܥܠܬܐ

Then Pilate went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I bring him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”

ܘܢܦܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܒܪ ܟܕ ܐܝܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܟܠܝܠܐ ܕܟܘܒܐ ܘܢܚܬܐ ܕܐܪܓܘܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܗܐ ܓܒܪܐ

Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. Pilate said to them, “Behold, the man!”

When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify!”
Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves, and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܠܢ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܢ ܘܐܝܟ ܕܒܢܡܘܣܢ ܚܝܒ ܗܘ ܡܘܬܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܢܦܫܗ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ

The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.”

ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܗܕܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܕܚܠ

When therefore Pilate heard this saying, he was more afraid.

ܘܥܠ ܬܘܒ ܠܦܪܛܘܪܝܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܢܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗ

He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܥܡܝ ܠܐ ܡܡܠܠ ܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܕܫܠܝܛ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܫܪܝܟ ܘܫܠܝܛ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܙܩܦܟ

Pilate therefore said to him, “Aren’t you speaking to me? Don’t you know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܥܠܝ ܫܘܠܛܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܚܕ ܐܠܘ ܠܐ ܝܗܝܒ ܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܕܐܫܠܡܢܝ ܠܟ ܪܒܐ ܗܝ ܚܛܝܬܗ ܡܢ ܕܝܠܟ

Jesus answered,
“You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin.”

ܘܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܨܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܕܢܫܪܝܘܗܝ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܝܢ ܩܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܐܢ ܠܗܢܐ ܫܪܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܪܚܡܗ ܕܩܣܪ ܟܠ ܡܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܢܦܫܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܒܕ ܣܩܘܒܠܐ ܗܘ ܕܩܣܪ

At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you release this man, you aren’t Caesar’s friend! Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!”

ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܗܕܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܐܦܩܗ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܠܒܪ ܘܝܬܒ ܥܠ ܒܝܡ ܒܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܪܨܝܦܬܐ ܕܟܐܦܐ ܥܒܪܐܝܬ ܕܝܢ ܡܬܐܡܪܐ ܓܦܝܦܬܐ

When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called “The Pavement”, but in Hebrew, “Gabbatha.”

Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܫܩܘܠܝܗܝ ܫܩܘܠܝܗܝ ܨܠܘܒܝܗܝ ܨܠܘܒܝܗܝ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܠܡܠܟܟܘܢ ܐܙܩܘܦ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܩܣܪ

They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!”
Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”
The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”

So then he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.

ܟܕ ܫܩܝܠ ܙܩܝܦܗ ܠܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܩܪܩܦܬܐ ܥܒܪܐܝܬ ܕܝܢ ܡܬܐܡܪܐ ܓܓܘܠܬܐ

He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called “The Place of a Skull”, which is called in Hebrew, “Golgotha”,

ܐܬܪ ܕܙܩܦܘܗܝ ܘܥܡܗ ܬܪܝܢ ܐܚܪܢܝܢ ܚܕ ܡܟܐ ܘܚܕ ܡܟܐ ܘܠܝܫܘܥ ܒܡܨܥܬܐ

where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.

ܘܟܬܒ ܐܦ ܠܘܚܐ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܘܣܡ ܥܠ ܙܩܝܦܗ ܟܬܝܒ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܗܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܢܨܪܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ
wkthb 'p lwkh' pylTws wsm el zqyph kthyb hw' dyn hkn' hn' yshwe ntsry' mlk' dyhwdy'
Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

ܘܠܗܢܐ ܕܦܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܢ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܩܪܐܘܗܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܩܪܝܒܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܐܙܕܩܦ ܒܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܟܬܝܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܥܒܪܐܝܬ ܘܝܘܢܐܝܬ ܘܪܗܘܡܐܝܬ

Therefore many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܠܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܠܐ ܬܟܬܘܒ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܗܘ ܐܡܪ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ

The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘he said, “I am King of the Jews.”’”

Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܙܩܦܘܗܝ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܫܩܠܘ ܢܚܬܘܗܝ ܘܥܒܕܘ ܠܐܪܒܥ ܡܢܘܢ ܡܢܬܐ ܠܚܕ ܡܢ ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܟܘܬܝܢܗ ܕܝܢ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܘܬ ܕܠܐ ܚܝܛܐ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܙܩܝܪܬܐ ܟܠܗ

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat. Now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ ܠܐ ܢܣܕܩܝܗ ܐܠܐ ܢܦܣ ܥܠܝܗ ܡܦܣ ܕܡܢܘ ܬܗܘܐ ܘܫܠܡ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܦܠܓܘ ܢܚܬܝ ܒܝܢܬܗܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܠܒܘܫܝ ܐܪܡܝܘ ܦܣܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܥܒܕܘ ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ

Then they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says,
“They parted my garments among them.
For my cloak they cast lots.”
Therefore the soldiers did these things.

ܩܝܡܢ ܗܘܝ ܕܝܢ ܠܘܬ ܙܩܝܦܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܐܡܗ ܘܚܬܗ ܕܐܡܗ ܘܡܪܝܡ ܗܝ ܕܩܠܝܘܦܐ ܘܡܪܝܡ ܡܓܕܠܝܬܐ

But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܚܙܐ ܠܐܡܗ ܘܠܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܗܘ ܕܪܚܡ ܗܘܐ ܕܩܐܡ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐܡܗ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܗܐ ܒܪܟܝ

Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother,
“Woman, behold, your son!”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܗܘ ܗܐ ܐܡܟ ܘܡܢ ܗܝ ܫܥܬܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܗܘ ܠܘܬܗ

Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother!” From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.

ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܟܠܡܕܡ ܐܫܬܠܡ ܘܕܢܬܡܠܐ ܟܬܒܐ ܐܡܪ ܨܗܐ ܐܢܐ

After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said,
“I am thirsty.”

ܘܡܐܢܐ ܣܝܡ ܗܘܐ ܕܡܠܐ ܚܠܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܡܠܘ ܐܣܦܘܓܐ ܡܢ ܚܠܐ ܘܣܡܘ ܥܠ ܙܘܦܐ ܘܩܪܒܘ ܠܘܬ ܦܘܡܗ

Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܫܩܠ ܗܘ ܚܠܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܡܫܠܡ ܘܐܪܟܢ ܪܫܗ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܪܘܚܗ

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,
“It is finished.” He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܪܘܒܬܐ ܗܘܬ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐ ܢܒܘܬܘܢ ܦܓܪܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܥܠ ܙܩܝܦܝܗܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܢܓܗܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܪܒܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܗܝ ܘܒܥܘ ܡܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܕܢܬܒܪܘܢ ܫܩܝܗܘܢ ܕܗܢܘܢ ܙܩܝܦܐ ܘܢܚܬܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ

Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn’t remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

ܘܐܬܘ ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܘܬܒܪܘ ܫܩܘܗܝ ܕܩܕܡܝܐ ܘܕܗܘ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܕܐܙܕܩܦ ܥܡܗ

Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him;

ܘܟܕ ܐܬܘ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܚܙܘ ܕܡܝܬ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܟܕܘ ܘܠܐ ܬܒܪܘ ܫܩܘܗܝ

but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they didn’t break his legs.

ܐܠܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܡܚܝܗܝ ܒܕܦܢܗ ܒܠܘܟܝܬܐ ܘܡܚܕܐ ܢܦܩ ܕܡܐ ܘܡܝܐ
'l' khd mn 'sTrTywT' mkhyhy bdpnh blwkyth' wmkhd' npq dm' wmy'
However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

ܘܡܢ ܕܚܙܐ ܐܣܗܕ ܘܫܪܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܣܗܕܘܬܗ ܘܗܘ ܝܕܥ ܕܫܪܪܐ ܐܡܪ ܕܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܗܝܡܢܘܢ
wmn dkhz' 'shd wshryr' hy shdwthh whw yde dshrr' 'mr d'p 'nthwn thhymnwn
He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe.

ܗܠܝܢ ܓܝܪ ܗܘܝ ܕܢܬܡܠܐ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܓܪܡܐ ܠܐ ܢܬܬܒܪ ܒܗ

For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “A bone of him will not be broken.”

ܘܬܘܒ ܟܬܒܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܢܚܘܪܘܢ ܒܡܢ ܕܕܩܪܘ

Again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they pierced.”

ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܝܘܣܦ ܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܪܡܬܐ ܒܥܐ ܡܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܡܛܠ ܕܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܘܡܛܫܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܕܚܠܬܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܢܫܩܘܠ ܦܓܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܦܣ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܘܐܬܐ ܘܫܩܠ ܦܓܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ

After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away Jesus’ body. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body.

ܘܐܬܐ ܐܦ ܢܝܩܕܡܘܣ ܗܘ ܕܐܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܘܐܝܬܝ ܥܡܗ ܚܘܢܛܬܐ ܕܡܘܪܐ ܘܕܥܠܘܝ ܐܝܟ ܡܐܐ ܠܝܛܪܝܢ
w'th' 'p nyqdmws hw d'th' hw' mn qdym lwth yshwe blly' w'ythy emh khwnTth' dmwr' wdelwy 'yk m'' lyTryn
Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds.

ܘܫܩܠܘܗܝ ܠܦܓܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܘܟܪܟܘܗܝ ܒܟܬܢܐ ܘܒܒܣܡܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܥܝܕܐ ܠܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܢܩܒܪܘܢ
wshqlwhy lpgrh dyshwe wkrkwhy bkthn' wbbsm' 'ykn' d'yth eyd' lyhwdy' dnqbrwn
So they took Jesus’ body, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

ܐܝܬ ܗܘܬ ܕܝܢ ܒܗܝ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܐܙܕܩܦ ܒܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܓܢܬܐ ܘܒܗ ܒܓܢܬܐ ܒܝܬ ܩܒܘܪܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܕܐܢܫ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܐܬܬܣܝܡ ܗܘܐ ܒܗ
'yth hwth dyn bhy dwkth' d'zdqp bh yshwe gnth' wbh bgnth' byth qbwr' khdth' d'nsh edkyl l' 'ththsym hw' bh
Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no man had ever yet been laid.

ܘܣܡܘܗܝ ܬܡܢ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܥܐܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܘܡܛܠ ܕܩܪܝܒ ܗܘܐ ܩܒܪܐ
wsmwhy thmn lyshwe mTl dshbth' e'l' hwth wmTl dqryb hw' qbr'
Then because of the Jews’ Preparation Day (for the tomb was near at hand) they laid Jesus there.
