In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

ܗܢܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܠܘܬ ܐܠܗܐ

The same was in the beginning with God.

ܟܠ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܗܘܐ ܘܒܠܥܕܘܗܝ ܐܦܠܐ ܚܕܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܕܡ ܕܗܘܐ

All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made.

ܒܗ ܚܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܕܒܢܝܢܫܐ

In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

ܘܗܘ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܡܢܗܪ ܘܚܫܘܟܐ ܠܐ ܐܕܪܟܗ
'drkh l' wkhshwk' mnhr bkhshwk' nwhr' whw
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome
it.

ܗܘܐ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܕܐܫܬܕܪ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܫܡܗ ܝܘܚܢܢ
ywkhnn shmh 'lh' mn d'shthdr brnsh' hw'
There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

ܗܢܐ ܐܬܐ ܠܣܗܕܘܬܐ ܕܢܣܗܕ ܥܠ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܕܟܠܢܫ ܢܗܝܡܢ ܒܐܝܕܗ
b'ydh nhymn dklnsh nwhr' el dnshd lshdwth' 'th' hn'
The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.

ܠܐ ܗܘ ܗܘܐ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܢܣܗܕ ܥܠ ܢܘܗܪܐ
nwhr' el dnshd 'l' nwhr' hw' hw l'
He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.

ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܕܫܪܪܐ ܕܡܢܗܪ ܠܟܠܢܫ ܕܐܬܐ ܠܥܠܡܐ

The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.

ܒܥܠܡܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܥܠܡܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܗܘܐ ܘܥܠܡܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܗ
ydeh l' welm' hw' b'ydh welm' hw' belm'
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.

ܠܕܝܠܗ ܐܬܐ ܘܕܝܠܗ ܠܐ ܩܒܠܘܗܝ
qblwhy l' wdylh 'th' ldylh
He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him.

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܩܒܠܘܗܝ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܫܘܠܛܢܐ ܕܒܢܝܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܒܫܡܗ
bshmh dmhymnyn l'ylyn nhwwn d'lh' dbny' shwlTn' lhwn yhb dqblwhy dyn 'ylyn
But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܠܘ ܡܢ ܕܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܢ ܨܒܝܢܐ ܕܒܣܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܢ ܨܒܝܢܐ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܬܝܠܕܘ
'thyldw 'lh' mn 'l' dgbr' tsbyn' mn wl' dbsr' tsbyn' mn wl' dm' mn dlw 'ylyn
who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

ܘܡܠܬܐ ܒܣܪܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܓܢ ܒܢ ܘܚܙܝܢ ܫܘܒܚܗ ܫܘܒܚܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܝܚܝܕܝܐ ܕܡܢ ܐܒܐ ܕܡܠܐ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܩܘܫܬܐ
wqwshth' Tybwth' dml' 'b' dmn dykhydy' 'yk shwbkh' shwbkhh wkhzyn bn w'gn hw' bsr' wmlth'
The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

ܝܘܚܢܢ ܣܗܕ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܩܥܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܢܘ ܗܘ ܕܐܡܪܬ ܕܒܬܪܝ ܐܬܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܩܕܡܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܩܕܡܝ ܗܘ ܡܢܝ
mny hw dqdmy mTl qdmy lh whw' 'th' dbthry d'mrth hw hnw w'mr wqe' elwhy shd ywkhnn
John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”

ܘܡܢ ܡܠܝܘܬܗ ܚܢܢ ܟܠܢ ܢܣܒܢ ܘܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܚܠܦ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ
Tybwth' khlp wTybwth' nsbn kln khnn mlywthh wmn
From his fullness we all received grace upon grace.

ܡܛܠ ܕܢܡܘܣܐ ܒܝܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܬܝܗܒ ܫܪܪܐ ܕܝܢ ܘܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܒܝܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܘܐ
hw' mshykh' yshwe byd wTybwth' dyn shrr' 'thyhb mwsh' byd dnmws' mTl
For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐ ܚܙܐ ܐܢܫ ܡܡܬܘܡ ܝܚܝܕܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܥܘܒܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܗܘ ܐܫܬܥܝ
'shthey hw d'bwhy bewb' d'ythwhy hw 'lh' ykhydy' mmthwm 'nsh khz' l' 'lh'
No one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

ܘܗܕܐ ܗܝ ܣܗܕܘܬܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܟܕ ܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܡܢ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܠܘܝܐ ܕܢܫܐܠܘܢܝܗܝ ܐܢܬ ܡܢ ܐܢܬ
'nth mn 'nth dnsh'lwnyhy wlwy' khn' 'wrshlm mn yhwdy' lwthh shdrw kd dywkhnn shdwthh hy whd'
This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

ܘܐܘܕܝ ܘܠܐ ܟܦܪ ܘܐܘܕܝ ܕܠܘ ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ

He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”

ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܬܘܒ ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܠܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝ ܢܒܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ

They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the prophet?”
He answered, “No.”

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܘܡܢܘ ܐܢܬ ܕܢܬܠ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܫܕܪܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܥܠ ܢܦܫܟ

They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܩܠܐ ܕܩܪܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܐܫܘܘ ܐܘܪܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ

He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܐܫܬܕܪܘ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܗܘܘ

The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.

ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܡܥܡܕ ܐܢܬ ܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܟ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܠܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܒܝܐ

They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

ܥܢܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܡܥܡܕ ܐܢܐ ܒܡܝܐ ܒܝܢܬܟܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܐܡ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ

John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.

ܗܢܘ ܗܘ ܕܒܬܪܝ ܐܬܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܩܕܡܝ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܫܪܐ ܥܪܩܐ ܕܡܣܢܘܗܝ

He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

ܗܠܝܢ ܒܒܝܬ-ܥܢܝܐ ܗܘܝ ܒܥܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܡܥܡܕ ܗܘܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ
ywkhnn hw' dmemd 'yk' dywrdnn bebr' hwy bbyth-eny' hlyn
These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܒܬܪܗ ܚܙܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܕܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܡܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܕܫܩܠ ܚܛܝܬܗ ܕܥܠܡܐ

The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

ܗܢܘ ܕܐܢܐ ܐܡܪܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܕܒܬܪܝ ܐܬܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܩܕܡܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܩܕܡܝ ܗܘ ܡܢܝ

This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’

ܘܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܝܬ ܠܗ ܐܠܐ ܕܢܬܝܕܥ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܐܢܐ ܕܒܡܝܐ ܐܥܡܕ
'emd dbmy' 'n' 'thyth hn' mTl l'ysryl dnthyde 'l' lh hwyth yde l' w'n'
I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel.”

ܘܐܣܗܕ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܕܚܙܝܬ ܠܪܘܚܐ ܕܢܚܬܐ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܝܘܢܐ ܘܩܘܝܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ

John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.

ܘܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܝܬ ܠܗ ܐܠܐ ܡܢ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ ܕܐܥܡܕ ܒܡܝܐ ܗܘ ܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܕܐܝܢܐ ܕܚܙܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܢܚܬܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܘܡܩܘܝܐ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܢܘ ܡܥܡܕ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ
dqwdsh' brwkh' memd hnw elwhy wmqwy' rwkh' dnkhth' 'nth dkhz' d'yn' ly 'mr hw bmy' d'emd dshdrny mn 'l' lh hwyth yde l' w'n'
I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’

ܘܐܢܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܘܐܣܗܕܬ ܕܗܢܘ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ

I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܩܐܡ ܗܘܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܡܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ

Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,

ܘܚܪ ܒܝܫܘܥ ܟܕ ܡܗܠܟ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܡܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ

and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”

ܘܫܡܥܘ ܬܪܝܗܘܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ

The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܚܙܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܐܬܝܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܒܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܪܒܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܢܬ
'nth hw' 'yk' rbn lh 'mryn 'nthwn beyn mn' lhwn w'mr bthrh d'thyn 'nwn wkhz' yshwe w'thpny
Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them,
“What are you looking for?”
They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܬܘ ܘܬܚܙܘܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܬܘ ܘܚܙܘ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܗܘܐ ܘܠܘܬܗ ܗܘܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܗܘ ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܝ ܐܝܟ ܫܥܐ ܥܣܪ

He said to them,
“Come, and see.”
They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

ܚܕ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܫܡܥܘ ܡܢ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܐܢܕܪܐܘܣ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܫܡܥܘܢ

One of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

ܗܢܐ ܚܙܐ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܠܫܡܥܘܢ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܫܟܚܢܝܗܝ ܠܡܫܝܚܐ
lmshykh' 'shkkhnyhy lh w'mr 'khwhy lshmewn lwqdm khz' hn'
He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

ܘܐܝܬܝܗ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܚܪ ܒܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܐܢܬ ܬܬܩܪܐ ܟܐܦܐ

He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said,
“You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).

ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܨܒܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܡܦܩ ܠܓܠܝܠܐ ܘܐܫܟܚ ܠܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ

On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him,
“Follow me.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ-ܨܝܕܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܗ ܕܐܢܕܪܐܘܣ ܘܕܫܡܥܘܢ

Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.

ܘܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܐܫܟܚ ܠܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܗܘ ܕܟܬܒ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܒܢܒܝܐ ܐܫܟܚܢܝܗܝ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܗܘ ܒܪ ܝܘܣܦ ܡܢ ܢܨܪܬ

Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܡܢ ܢܨܪܬ ܡܫܟܚ ܡܕܡ ܕܛܒ ܢܗܘܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܬܐ ܘܬܚܙܐ

Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

ܘܚܙܝܗܝ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܟܕ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܐ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܒܪ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܢܟܠܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him,
“Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܠܝ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܥܕܠܐ ܢܩܪܝܟ ܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܟܕ ܬܚܝܬ ܬܬܐ ܐܢܬ ܚܙܝܬܟ

Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered him,
“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

ܥܢܐ ܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܪܒܝ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܠܟܗ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܥܠ ܕܐܡܪܬ ܠܟ ܕܚܙܝܬܟ ܬܚܝܬ ܬܬܐ ܡܗܝܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܕܪܘܪܒܢ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܬܚܙܐ

Jesus answered him,
“Because I told you, ‘I saw you underneath the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these!”

He said to him,
“Most certainly, I tell you all, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
