פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי דהוה עם יואל בר פתואל:
pthwal br ywal em dhwh yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm
Yahweh’s word that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.

שמעו דא סביא ואציתו כל יתבי ארעא ההות דא ביומיכון ואם ביומי אבהתכון:
abhthkwn bywmy wam bywmykwn da hhwth area ythby kl watsythw sbya da shmew
Hear this, you elders, and listen, all you inhabitants of the land! Has this ever happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers?

עלה לבניכון אשתעו ובניכון לבניהון ובניהון לדר אוחרן:
awkhrn ldr wbnyhwn lbnyhwn wbnykwn ashthew lbnykwn elh
Tell your children about it, and have your children tell their children, and their children, another generation.

מותר זחלא אכל גובא ומותר גובא אכל פרחא ומותר פרחא אכל שמוטא:
shmwTa akl prkha wmwthr prkha akl gwba wmwthr gwba akl zkhla mwthr
What the swarming locust has left, the great locust has eaten. What the great locust has left, the grasshopper has eaten. What the grasshopper has left, the caterpillar has eaten.

אתערו רויא ובכו ואילילו כל שתי חמר על חמר מרת ארי אתמנע מפומכון:
mpwmkwn athmne ary mrth khmr el khmr shthy kl waylylw wbkw rwya atherw
Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.

ארי עמא סליק על ארעי תקיף ולית מנין שנוהי שני אריא ונבוהי כבר אריון:
arywn kbr wnbwhy arya shny shnwhy mnyn wlyth thqyp arey el slyq ema ary
For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a lioness.

שוי פרי גופני עמי לצדו ותינתהון למפחת נפש מקלף קלף ורמא חורו שבשהא:
shbshha khwrw wrma qlp mqlp npsh lmpkhth wthynthhwn ltsdw emy gwpny pry shwy
He has laid my vine waste, and stripped my fig tree. He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away. Its branches are made white.

כנשתא דישראל עבידו אליא כבתולה דאסירא סקא למספד על בעל עולמתהא:
ewlmthha bel el lmspd sqa dasyra kbthwlh alya ebydw dyshral knshtha
Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth!

פסקו קרבנין ונכסין מבית מקדשא דיי אתאבלו כהניא דמשמשין בבית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha bbyth dmshmshyn khnya athablw dyy mqdsha mbyth wnksyn qrbnyn psqw
The meal offering and the drink offering are cut off from Yahweh’s house. The priests, Yahweh’s ministers, mourn.

איתבזיזו חקליא חרובת ארעא ארי סף עבורא יבישו גופניא נתרו זיתיא:
zythya nthrw gwpnya ybyshw ebwra sp ary area khrwbth khqlya aythbzyzw
The field is laid waste. The land mourns, for the grain is destroyed, The new wine has dried up, and the oil languishes.

בהיתו אכריא אילילו מפלחי כרמיא על חטין ועל סערין ארי סף חצד חקלא:
khqla khtsd sp ary seryn wel khTyn el krmya mplkhy aylylw akrya bhythw
Be confounded, you farmers! Wail, you vineyard keepers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field has perished.

גופניא יבישו ותיניא נתרו רמונין אף דקלין וחזור כל אילני חקלא יבישו ארי פסקת חדותא מבני אנשא:
ansha mbny khdwtha psqth ary ybyshw khqla aylny kl wkhzwr dqlyn ap rmwnyn nthrw wthynya ybyshw gwpnya
The vine has dried up, and the fig tree withered— the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all of the trees of the field are withered; for joy has withered away from the sons of men.

אסרו וספידו כהניא אילילו דמשמשין על מדבחא עולו ביתו בסקיא דמשמשין קדם אלהי ארי אתמנע מבית מקדשא דאלהכון קורבנין ונסכין:
wnskyn qwrbnyn dalhkwn mqdsha mbyth athmne ary alhy qdm dmshmshyn bsqya bythw ewlw mdbkha el dmshmshyn aylylw khnya wspydw asrw
Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests! Wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God, for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from your God’s house.

גזרו תעני ערעו כנישא כנישו סביא כל יתבי ארעא ועולו לבית מקדשא דיי אלהכון וצלו קדם יי:
yy qdm wtslw alhkwn dyy mqdsha lbyth wewlw area ythby kl sbya knyshw knysha erew theny gzrw
Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Yahweh, your God, and cry to Yahweh.

וי מן קדם יומא ארי קריב יומא דעתיד למיתי מן קדם יי וכבזא דמן קדם שדי ייתי:
yythy shdy qdm dmn wkbza yy qdm mn lmythy dethyd ywma qryb ary ywma qdm mn wy
Alas for the day! For the day of Yahweh is at hand, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

הלא עוד דאנחנא חזן עבורא סף פסק מבית מקדשא דאלהנא חדוא וביע:
wbye khdwa dalhna mqdsha mbyth psq sp ebwra khzn dankhna ewd hla
Isn’t the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

אתמסיאו גרבי חמר תחות מגופתהון צדיאו אוצריא אתפגרו חסניא ארי סף עבורא:
ebwra sp ary khsnya athpgrw awtsrya tsdyaw mgwpthhwn thkhwth khmr grby athmsyaw
The seeds rot under their clods. The granaries are laid desolate. The barns are broken down, for the grain has withered.

לחדא מתאנחא בעירא מתערבלן בקרן דתורין ארי לית רעיא להון אף עדרי ענא צדיאה:
tsdyah ena edry ap lhwn reya lyth ary dthwryn bqrn mtherbln beyra mthankha lkhda
How the animals groan! The herds of livestock are perplexed, because they have no pasture. Yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

קדמך יי אנא מצלי ארי קדום תקיף כאשא אסף דרות מדברא ושלהוביתא שיצאת כל אילני חקלא:
khqla aylny kl shytsath wshlhwbytha mdbra drwth asp kasha thqyp qdwm ary mtsly ana yy qdmk
Yahweh, I cry to you, for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.
