העל נסיון פתגמא דמטא לותך תשתלהי ולמעכבא במליא מן יכול:
ykwl mn bmlya wlmekba thshthlhy lwthk dmTa pthgma nsywn hel
“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

הא כסנתא סגיעין וידיא חלשיא תקפתא:
thqptha khlshya wydya sgyeyn ksntha ha
Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.

דתקל בחובא יקימון מליך וארכוביא דחמטן בעבירא תחיל:
thkhyl bebyra dkhmTn warkwbya mlyk yqymwn bkhwba dthql
Your words have supported him who was falling, you have made the feeble knees firm.

ארום כדון תיתי לותך ותשתלהי תמטי גבך ואתבהלתא:
wathbhltha gbk thmTy wthshthlhy lwthk thythy kdwn arwm
But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.

הלא דחלתך סכויך סברך ושלמות אורחתך:
awrkhthk wshlmwth sbrk skwyk dkhlthk hla
Isn’t your piety your confidence? Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?

אדכר כדון מן דזכי כאברהם הובד והאן תריצין כיצחק ויעקב אתכחדו:
athkkhdw wyeqb kytskhq thrytsyn whan hwbd kabrhm dzky mn kdwn adkr
“Remember, now, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

היכמה די חמיתי דרא דטובענא עבדי שקרא ופלחי לעות ישתלמין כמניה:
kmnyh yshthlmyn lewth wplkhy shqra ebdy dTwbena dra khmythy dy hykmh
According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble, reap the same.

מן מימר אלהא יהובדון ומן זעפא דנחיריה ישתיצון:
yshthytswn dnkhyryh zepa wmn yhwbdwn alha mymr mn
By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.

אכליות דשעיר דמתיל לאריא טרפא וקלא דליה דמתיל לשחלא מרתיחין כדביא בחטופיהון ורברבנוי דמתילין לליתא מתפרשין למבז בזתא:
bztha lmbz mthprshyn llytha dmthylyn wrbrbnwy bkhTwpyhwn kdbya mrthykhyn lshkhla dmthyl dlyh wqla Trpa larya dmthyl dsheyr aklywth
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

היכמה דאריא יהובד מדלית עדאה היכדין יהובד ישמעאל מדלית זכותא ובנוי לסטיא אתפרשו מן אורחין תריצין: ת״א ישמעאל דמתיל לאריון יהובד מדלית זכותא ובגוי דלוט דמתיל לליתא יתפרשון מקהלא:
mqhla ythprshwn llytha dmthyl dlwT wbgwy zkwtha mdlyth yhwbd larywn dmthyl yshmeal tha thrytsyn awrkhyn mn athprshw lsTya wbnwy zkwtha mdlyth yshmeal yhwbd hykdyn edah mdlyth yhwbd darya hykmh
The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.

לותי פתגם אתאמר בנטיר ואליפת אודני קצת דאתמצי מניה:
mnyh dathmtsy qtsth awdny walypth bnTyr athamr pthgm lwthy
“Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.

במחשבתא דמן חזותא בליליא כד נפלת שנתא על בני נשא:
nsha bny el shntha nplth kd blylya khzwtha dmn bmkhshbtha
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,

דחולא ערעני ורתיתא וסוגעי אברי דחיל:
dkhyl abry wswgey wrthytha ereny dkhwla
fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.

וזיקא על אפי יעבר מצלהבא עלעולא בסרי:
bsry elewla mtslhba yebr apy el wzyqa
Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.
16
יקום ולא אשתמודע חזויה דמו לקבל עיני חשש וקל סוגעין אשמע:
ashme swgeyn wql khshsh eyny lqbl dmw khzwyh ashthmwde wla yqwm
It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,

אכרז ואמר אפשר דבר נש מאלהא יזכי אם מן דעבדיה ידכי גבר:
gbr ydky debdyh mn am yzky malha nsh dbr apshr wamr akrz
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?

הא בעבדוי נבייא לא יימין ובאזגדוי ישוי עילא:
eyla yshwy wbazgdwy yymyn la nbyya bebdwy ha
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.
19
כל דכין רשיעיא דשרין בקבורת טנא די בעפרא שיתאסיהון ידככנון קדם זחלא:
zkhla qdm ydkknwn shythasyhwn bepra dy Tna bqbwrth dshryn rshyeya dkyn kl
How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!

מצפר לרמש משתפפין מן דלית משוי להון ארכא לעלמא יהובדון:
yhwbdwn lelma arka lhwn mshwy dlyth mn mshthppyn lrmsh mtspr
Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.
