הא אוריכותיה מכדבא הברם למחמי יטלוק:
yTlwq lmkhmy hbrm mkdba awrykwthyh ha
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fish hook, or press down his tongue with a cord?

לא אכזראה ארום יעירניה ומן הוא קדמוי יתעתד:
ythethd qdmwy hwa wmn yeyrnyh arwm akzrah la
Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

מן אקדימנני בעובדי בראשית ואשלם הלא כל תחותי שמיא דילי הוא:
hwa dyly shmya thkhwthy kl hla washlm brashyth bewbdy aqdymnny mn
Will he make many petitions to you, or will he speak soft words to you?

לא אשתוק כדבוביה ומימר גבורתא ובעותא דעלויה:
delwyh wbewtha gbwrtha wmymr kdbwbyh ashthwq la
Will he make a covenant with you, that you should take him for a servant forever?

מן גלי אפי לבושיה בכפלא דפרומביה מן יעול:
yewl mn dprwmbyh bkpla lbwshyh apy gly mn
Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your girls?

דשי אפוי מן שרי חזרנות ככוי אימתא:
aymtha kkwy khzrnwth shry mn apwy dshy
Will traders barter for him? Will they part him among the merchants?

גותנות פצידיא תריסין ליה אחיד בחותם ציר:
tsyr bkhwthm akhyd lyh thrysyn ptsydya gwthnwth
Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish spears?

חד עם חד מקרבין ניבוי ורוח לא יעול במצעהון:
bmtsehwn yewl la wrwkh nybwy mqrbyn khd em khd
Lay your hand on him. Remember the battle, and do so no more.

חד עם חבריה מתאדקין מתאחדין ולא מתפרדין:
mthprdyn wla mthakhdyn mthadqyn khbryh em khd
Behold, the hope of him is in vain. Won’t one be cast down even at the sight of him?

זרירוי תנהר נהורא ועינוי כתמרי קרצתא:
qrtstha kthmry weynwy nhwra thnhr zryrwy
None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?

מפומיה בעוריא יהלכון גוצין דנור משתזבין:
mshthzbyn dnwr gwtsyn yhlkwn bewrya mpwmyh
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Everything under the heavens is mine.

מאפותיה יפוק קטרא היך דודא נפיח דעבד כיפא:
kypa debd npykh dwda hyk qTra ypwq mapwthyh
“I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.

נפשיה גומרין תצלהב ושלהוביתא מפומיה נפק:
npq mpwmyh wshlhwbytha thtslhb gwmryn npshyh
Who can strip off his outer garment? Who will come within his jaws?

בצוריה יבית עושנא ולקדמוי תדיץ דאבונא:
dabwna thdyts wlqdmwy ewshna ybyth btswryh
Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror.

שלדי בסריה מאדקין יתיסד עלוי דלא תזוע:
thzwe dla elwy ythysd madqyn bsryh shldy
Strong scales are his pride, shut up together with a close seal.

לביה מתיסד היך אבנא ואתיך היך פלחא ארעיתא:
areytha plkha hyk wathyk abna hyk mthysd lbyh
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17
ממספייה ידחלון תקיפיא מן תבריא ידון עלויהון:
elwyhwn ydwn thbrya mn thqypya ydkhlwn mmspyyh
They are joined to one another. They stick together, so that they can’t be pulled apart.

ידבקניה חרבא ולא תקום מורגיתא וקלעא דמטלא אבנא ושרינא:
wshryna abna dmTla wqlea mwrgytha thqwm wla khrba ydbqnyh
His sneezing flashes out light. His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

יחשיב לתבנא פרזלא לקיסא בולטיתא כרכומא:
krkwma bwlTytha lqysa przla lthbna ykhshyb
Out of his mouth go burning torches. Sparks of fire leap out.

לא יערקניה גררא קשתא לגילי אתחשיבו ליה אבני קלעא:
qlea abny lyh athkhshybw lgyly qshtha grra yerqnyh la
Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, as of a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.

היך גילי אתחשיבו ליה נרגיא יגחך לרגוש רומחא:
rwmkha lrgwsh ygkhk nrgya lyh athkhshybw gyly hyk
His breath kindles coals. A flame goes out of his mouth.

תחותוי פרירין דחדדין היך חספא ימיך דהבא סגינא עלוי סאן:
san elwy sgyna dhba ymyk khspa hyk dkhddyn pryryn thkhwthwy
There is strength in his neck. Terror dances before him.

מרתח היך דודא מצולתא ימא ישוי היך מתכלא:
mthkla hyk yshwy yma mtswltha dwda hyk mrthkh
The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm on him. They can’t be moved.
24
בתרוי ינהר שבילא יחשוב תהומא לשיבותא:
lshybwtha thhwma ykhshwb shbyla ynhr bthrwy
His heart is as firm as a stone, yes, firm as the lower millstone.
25
אין על עפרא שולטניה דעבדיה דלא יתבר:
ythbr dla debdyh shwlTnyh epra el ayn
When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing.
