ܘܥܢܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐܝܘܒ ܡܢ ܥܠܥܠܐ

Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,

ܡܢܘ ܗܢܐ ܕܡܬܪܥܐ ܬܪܥܝܬܐ ܒܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܝܕܥܬܐ
'ydeth' dl' bml' threyth' dmthre' hn' mnw
“Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

ܐܣܘܪ ܢܐ ܐܝܟ ܓܢܒܪܐ ܚܨ̈ܝܟ ܐܫܐܠܟ ܐܘܕܥܝܢܝ
'wdeyny 'sh'lk khtsyk gnbr' 'yk n' 'swr
Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!

ܐܝܟܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܟܕ ܡܬܩܢ ܗܘܝܬ ܫܬ̈ܐܣܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܚܘܢܝ ܐܢ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܒܘܝܢܐ
bwyn' 'nth yde 'n khwny d're' shth'syh hwyth mthqn kd hwyth 'yk'
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.

ܡܢܘ ܐܪܡܝ ܡܫܘܚܬܗ̇ ܐܢ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܘܡܢܘ ܡܬܚ ܥܠܝܗ̇ ܚܘܛܐ
khwT' elyh mthkh wmnw 'nth yde 'n mshwkhthh 'rmy mnw
Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?

ܥܠ ܡܢܐ ܩܡܘ ܥܒܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܐܘ ܡܢܘ ܫܕܐ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܒܙ̈ܘܝܬܗ̇
bzwythh k'p' shd' mnw 'w ebryh qmw mn' el
What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,

ܒܪܐ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܟ̈ܘܟܒܝ ܫܦܪܐ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܡܠܐ̈ܟܐ ܝܒܒܘ

when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

ܘܣܓܪ ܬܪ̈ܥܝ ܝܡܐ ܘܐܓܝܚ ܡܢ ܡܪܒܥܐ ܘܐܦܩ

“Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke out of the womb,

ܟܕ ܣܡ ܥܒܕ ܥܢܢܐ ܠܒܘܫܗ ܘܥܪܦܠܐ ܟܪܟܬܗ
krkthh werpl' lbwshh enn' ebd sm kd
when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,

ܘܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܩܝܡܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܘܣܘܟܪ̈ܐ
wswkr' thre' webd qym' lh webd
marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܪܟܐ ܬܡܛܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܘܣܦ ܘܗܪܟܐ ܬܟܬܪ ܒܓܐܝܘܬܐ ܕܓ̈ܠܠܝܟ
dgllyk bg'ywth' thkthr whrk' thwsp wl' thmT' lhrk' edm' w'mrth
and said, ‘You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?

ܡܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܟ ܦܩܕܬ ܠܨܦܪܐ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܐܝܕܐ ܗܝ ܕܘܟܬܗ ܕܫܦܪܐ
dshpr' dwkthh hy 'yd' 'nth yde ltspr' pqdth ywmyk mn
“Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,

ܠܡܐܚܕ ܒܟܢ̈ܦܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܘܢܫܬܕܘܢ ܡܢܗ̇ ܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ

that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?

ܢܬܗܦܟ ܐܝܟ ܛܝܢܐ ܓܘܫܡܗܘܢ ܘܢܩܘܡܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܠܒܘܫܐ
lbwsh' 'yk wnqwmwn gwshmhwn Tyn' 'yk nthhpk
It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.

ܢܬܟܠܐ ܡܢ ܚ̈ܛܝܐ ܢܘܗܪܗܘܢ ܘܕܪܥܐ ܪܡܐ ܢܬܬܒܪ
nththbr rm' wdre' nwhrhwn khTy' mn nthkl'
From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.

ܥܠܬ ܠܥܘܡܩ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܝܡܐ ܘܒܫܬܐ̈ܣܘܗܝ ܕܬܗܘܡܐ ܗܠܟܬ
hlkth dthhwm' wbshth'swhy dym' lewmqwhy elth
“Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?

ܐܬܓܠܝܘ ܠܟ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܡܘܬܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܛ̈ܠܠܝ ܡܘܬܐ
mwth' dTlly wthre' dmwth' thre' lk 'thglyw
Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

ܚܙܝܬ ܟܠܗ̇ ܦܬܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܚܘܢܝ ܐܢ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ
'nth yde 'n khwny d're' pthyh klh khzyth
Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.

ܒܐܝܕܐ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܫܪܐ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܘܕܘܟܬܗ ܕܚܫܘܟܐ ܐܝܕܐ ܗܝ

“What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,

ܐܢ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܬܚܘܡܗ ܘܫܒܝܠܐ ܕܒܝܬܗ

that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?

ܘܐܢ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܐܡܬܝ ܐܬܝܠܕܬ ܘܡܢܝܢܐ ܕܝܘܡ̈ܝܟ ܐܢ ܣܓܝܐ̈ܝܢ
sgy'yn 'n dywmyk wmnyn' 'thyldth 'mthy 'nth yde w'n
Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!

ܥܠܬ ܠܐܘܨܪ̈ܐ ܕܬܠܓܐ ܘܐܘܨܪ̈ܐ ܕܒܪܕܐ ܚܙܝܢ ܠܟ
lk khzyn dbrd' w'wtsr' dthlg' l'wtsr' elth
Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,

ܕܢܛܝܪܝܢ ܠܙܒܢܐ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܟܬܘܫܐ ܕܩܪܒܐ
dqrb' dthkthwsh' wlywm' d'wltsn' lzbn' dnTyryn
which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

ܐܘ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܡܬܦܠܓ ܢܘܗܪܐ ܘܢܦܩܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ

By what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?

ܘܗ̇ܘܐ ܚܙܘܐ ܘܩܠܐ

Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,

ܠܡܚܬܘ ܡܛܪܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܘܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܠܝܬ ܒܪܢܫ

to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,

ܠܡܣܒܥܘ ܟܠ ܝܥܪܐ ܘܠܡܘܥܝܘ ܡܦܩܢܐ ܕܬܕܐܐ
dthd'' mpqn' wlmweyw yer' kl lmsbew
to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?

ܐܝܬ ܐܒܐ ܠܡܛܪܐ ܐܘ ܡܢܘ ܐܘܠܕ ܢܘܛܦ̈ܬܐ
nwTpth' 'wld mnw 'w lmTr' 'b' 'yth
Does the rain have a father? Or who fathers the drops of dew?

ܘܛܠܐ ܘܓܠܝܕܐ ܡܢ ܟܪܣܐ ܕܡ̇ܢ ܢܦܩܘ ܘܩܣܕܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܡܢܘ ܐܘܠܕ
'wld mnw dshmy' wqsd' npqw dmn krs' mn wglyd' wTl'
Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?

ܐܝܟ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܡܬܩܫܝܢ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܐ̈ܦܝ ܬܗ̈ܘܡܐ ܐܚܕܝܢ
'khdyn thhwm' w'py my' mthqshyn k'p' 'yk
The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.

ܐ̇ܚܕ ܐܢܬ ܒܐ̈ܦܝ ܟܝܡܐ ܐܘ ܫܒܝܠ ܓܢܒܪܐ ܚܙܝܬ
khzyth gnbr' shbyl 'w kym' b'py 'nth 'khd
“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?

ܗܐ ܬܦܩ ܥܓܠܬܐ ܒܥܕܢܗ̇ ܐܘ ܩ̇ܐܡ ܐܢܬ ܒܐ̈ܦܝ ܥܝܘܬܐ
eywth' b'py 'nth q'm 'w bednh eglth' thpq h'
Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?

ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܐܘ ܣ̇ܐܡ ܐܢܬ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ

Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?

ܡܪܝܡ ܐܢܬ ܥܠ ܥܢ̈ܢܐ ܩܠܟ ܘܡܟܣܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܗܝܢ ܒܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܡ̈ܝܐ

“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?

ܡܫܕܪ ܐܢܬ ܒܪ̈ܩܐ ܘܐܙܠܝܢ ܘܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܟ ܕܗܐ ܩܝܡܝܢܢ
qymynn dh' lk w'mryn w'zlyn brq' 'nth mshdr
Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?

ܡܢܘ ܣܡ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܒܟܣܝܐ ܐܘ ܡܢܘ ܝܗܒ ܚܙܘܐ ܠܒܘܝܢܐ

Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

ܡܢܘ ܡܢ̣ܐ ܥܢ̈ܢܐ ܒܚܟܡܬܗ ܘܥܡ̈ܘܕܝ ܫܡܝܐ ܡܢܘ ܐܩܝܡ

Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,

ܡܢܘ ܢܣܟ ܥܦܪܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܫܩܝ̈ܦܐ ܡܢܘ ܬܩ̇ܢ

when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?

ܡܢܘ ܝܗܒ ܠܐܪܝܐ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܐ ܘܢܦܫܐ ܕܐܪ̈ܝܘܬܐ ܣ̇ܒܥ

“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

ܡܢܘ ܐܣܓܝ ܚܝܘܬܐ ܒܕܒܪܐ
bdbr' khywth' 'sgy mnw
when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?
