שמעו חכימיא מלי וידעיא אציתו למימרי:
lmymry atsythw wydeya mly khkymya shmew
“Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.

ארום אודנא מליא בחנא ומוריגא טעמא למיכל:
lmykl Tema wmwryga bkhna mlya awdna arwm
For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.
4
דין נתרעי לנא נדע ביננא מה טב:
Tb mh bynna nde lna nthrey dyn
Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.

ארום אמר איוב זכאית ואלהא אעדי דיני:
dyny aedy walha zkayth aywb amr arwm
For Job has said, ‘I am righteous, God has taken away my right.
6
על דיני אכדב בר נש דשדי גירי מדלית סורחנא:
swrkhna mdlyth gyry dshdy nsh br akdb dyny el
Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.’

מן גברא היך איוב דשתי דוחכא היך מיא:
mya hyk dwkhka dshthy aywb hyk gbra mn
What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,
8
ואזל לאתחברא עם עבדי שקר ולהלכא עם אנשי רשעא:
rshea anshy em wlhlka shqr ebdy em lathkhbra wazl
who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?

ארום אמר לא יאלף גברא במצביה עם אלהא: ת״א ארום אמר לא יסתכן בר נש במרהטיה עם אלהא:
alha em bmrhTyh nsh br ysthkn la amr arwm tha alha em bmtsbyh gbra yalp la amr arwm
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.’

בגין כן אנשי חכימי קבילו מיני חס לאלהא מן רשעא ושדי מן שקרא:
shqra mn wshdy rshea mn lalha khs myny qbylw khkymy anshy kn bgyn
“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

ארום עובדי בר נש ישלם ליה וכאורחא דגברא יערעניה:
yerenyh dgbra wkawrkha lyh yshlm nsh br ewbdy arwm
For the work of a man he will give to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

ברם בקושטא אלהא לא יחיב ושדי לא יקלקל דינא:
dyna yqlql la wshdy ykhyb la alha bqwshTa brm
Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
13
מן פקד עלוי למעבד ארעא ומן שוי תבל כולה:
kwlh thbl shwy wmn area lmebd elwy pqd mn
Who put him in charge of the earth? Or who has appointed him over the whole world?
14
אין ישוי עלוי לביה רוחיה ונשמתיה לגביה יכנוש:
yknwsh lgbyh wnshmthyh rwkhyh lbyh elwy yshwy ayn
If he set his heart on himself, if he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
15
יתנגיד כל בסרא כחדא ובר נש על עפרא יתוב:
ythwb epra el nsh wbr kkhda bsra kl ythngyd
all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.
16
ואין תתבין שמע דא אצית לקל מלי:
mly lql atsyth da shme ththbyn wayn
“If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.
17
הברם סני דינא יסתמר ואין צדיק זכי יחיב:
ykhyb zky tsdyq wayn ysthmr dyna sny hbrm
Should even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,

הכשר למימר למלכא רשיעא חיבא לארכונין:
larkwnyn khyba rshyea lmlka lmymr hkshr
who says to a king, ‘Vile!’ or to nobles, ‘Wicked!’?

דלא נסיב אפין לרברבנן ולא אשתמודע שועא קדם מסכנא ארום עובדי אידוי כולהון:
kwlhwn aydwy ewbdy arwm mskna qdm shwea ashthmwde wla lrbrbnn apyn nsyb dla
He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of his hands.

בשעתא ימותון סדומאי ופלגות ליליא מתרגפין מצראי ויעברון ויעדון דורבני לא בחיל ידא:
yda bkhyl la dwrbny wyedwn wyebrwn mtsray mthrgpyn lylya wplgwth sdwmay ymwthwn bshetha
In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.

מטול דעינוי על אורחי בני נשא וכולהון פסיעתי יחמי:
ykhmy psyethy wkwlhwn nsha bny awrkhy el deynwy mTwl
“For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.
22
לית חשוך ולית טולא דמותא לאטמרא תמן עבדי שקר:
shqr ebdy thmn laTmra dmwtha Twla wlyth khshwk lyth
There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

ארום לא על גבר ישוי עוד למיזל לות אלהא בדינא:
bdyna alha lwth lmyzl ewd yshwy gbr el la arwm
For he doesn’t need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
24
יתבר גללי ימא דסגיעין בגו מיא ואקים חורונין בתריהון:
bthryhwn khwrwnyn waqym mya bgw dsgyeyn yma glly ythbr
He breaks mighty men in pieces in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place.
25
בגין כן הודע מעבדיהון והפך ליליא ומדככין:
wmdkkyn lylya whpk mebdyhwn hwde kn bgyn
Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

חלף רשיעי ספקינון באתר דחמין: ת״א באתר רשיעיא פורענותהון בתר דיחמון צדיקיא ויזכון בדינא:
bdyna wyzkwn tsdyqya dykhmwn bthr pwrenwthhwn rshyeya bathr tha dkhmyn bathr spqynwn rshyey khlp
He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

דמטול היכנא זרו מבתרוהי וכל אורחתיה לא אשכילו:
ashkylw la awrkhthyh wkl mbthrwhy zrw hykna dmTwl
because they turned away from following him, and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,
28
לאיתאה עלוי קבלתא דמסכנא וצעקתהון דעניי ישמע:
yshme denyy wtseqthhwn dmskna qbltha elwy laythah
so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.
29
והוא ישדיך ומן יחיב ויסלק שכנתא ומן יסכניה ומסער חובא על עמא ועל בר נש כחדא:
kkhda nsh br wel ema el khwba wmser ysknyh wmn shkntha wyslq ykhyb wmn yshdyk whwa
When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? He is over a nation or a man alike,

ממני מלכא בר נש דילטור מטול תקליא די בעמא:
bema dy thqlya mTwl dylTwr nsh br mlka mmny
that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.
31
ארום לאלהא אפשר דאתאמר סוברית לא אחבול:
akhbwl la swbryth dathamr apshr lalha arwm
“For has any said to God, ‘I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
32
בר ממה דאחמיה אנת אלפנני אין שקרא עבדית לא אוסיף:
awsyp la ebdyth shqra ayn alpnny anth dakhmyh mmh br
Teach me that which I don’t see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?
33
אפשר די מעמך ישלמנה ארום רחקת ארום אנת תתרעי ולא אנא ומה דידעת מלל:
mll dydeth wmh ana wla ththrey anth arwm rkhqth arwm yshlmnh memk dy apshr
Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.

אנשי חכימי לבא יימרון לי וגברא חכימא יקבל מני:
mny yqbl khkyma wgbra ly yymrwn lba khkymy anshy
Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:
35
איוב לא במנדעא ימלל ופתגמוי לא בשכלא:
bshkla la wpthgmwy ymll bmndea la aywb
‘Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.’
36
צבינא דיתבחר איוב עד עלמין מטול תיובתא באנשי שקרא:
shqra banshy thywbtha mTwl elmyn ed aywb dythbkhr tsbyna
I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
