וברם שמע כדון איוב מלי וכל פתגמי אצית:
atsyth pthgmy wkl mly aywb kdwn shme wbrm
“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.

הא כדון פתחית פומי מלילת לישני במוריגי:
bmwrygy lyshny mlylth pwmy pthkhyth kdwn ha
See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.
3
תריצות לבכי ממרי ומנדע ספותי בריר מלילו:
mlylw bryr spwthy wmnde mmry lbky thrytswth
My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.

רוח דאלהא עבדת יתי ומימר שדי תקימנני:
thqymnny shdy wmymr ythy ebdth dalha rwkh
The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

אין תוכל תתיבנני סדר קדמי אתעתד:
athethd qdmy sdr ththybnny thwkl ayn
If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.

הא אנא דכמתך לאלהא מן טינא אתלשית לחוד אנא:
ana lkhwd athlshyth Tyna mn lalha dkmthk ana ha
Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.
7
הא אימתי לא תבעתינך וטוני עלך לא ייקר:
yyqr la elk wTwny thbethynk la aymthy ha
Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.

ברם אמרת באודני וקל מליא אשמע:
ashme mlya wql bawdny amrth brm
“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,

זכי אנא מדלית מרד שזיג אנא ולא סורחנא לי:
ly swrkhna wla ana shzyg mrd mdlyth ana zky
‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.
10
הא תרעומתא עלי ישכח יחשבנני לבעל דבבא ליה:
lyh dbba lbel ykhshbnny yshkkh ely threwmtha ha
Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.
11
ישוי בשיע רגלי ינטר כל שבילי:
shbyly kl ynTr rgly bshye yshwy
He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’

הא דא לא זכיתא אתיבנך ארום יתרברב אלהא מן בר נש:
nsh br mn alha ythrbrb arwm athybnk zkytha la da ha
“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.
13
מא דין לותיה נציתא ארום כל פתגמוי לא יתיב:
ythyb la pthgmwy kl arwm ntsytha lwthyh dyn ma
Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?

ארום בחדא שותא ימלל אלהא ובתיניתא לא אצטריך למסכיה:
lmskyh atsTryk la wbthynytha alha ymll shwtha bkhda arwm
For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention.
15
בחלמא מן חזונא דליליא כד נפלת שינתא עמקתא על בני נשא בניומתא על בי מדמכא:
mdmka by el bnywmtha nsha bny el emqtha shyntha nplth kd dlylya khzwna mn bkhlma
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed,

היכדין יגלי אודנא בני נשא ובמרדותהון יחתום:
ykhthwm wbmrdwthhwn nsha bny awdna ygly hykdyn
then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,
17
לאעדאה בר נש מן עובדא בישא וגיותנותא מגברא יכסי:
yksy mgbra wgywthnwtha bysha ewbda mn nsh br laedah
that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18
ימנע נפשיה מן שוחתא וחיו מן למעבר בשלחא:
bshlkha lmebr mn wkhyw shwkhtha mn npshyh ymne
He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19
ומתמכסין בכיבא על בי מדמכיה וסוגעי איברוי תקיפין:
thqypyn aybrwy wswgey mdmkyh by el bkyba wmthmksyn
“He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones,
20
ומתונבא דנקיט ליה מרחיקא נפשיה מזונא ונפשיה מיכלא רגינא:
rgyna mykla wnpshyh mzwna npshyh mrkhyqa lyh dnqyT wmthwnba
so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.
21
ישתצי בסריה מן רוו ושפין גרמוי לא אתחמו:
athkhmw la grmwy wshpyn rww mn bsryh yshthtsy
His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.
22
וקריבת לשוחתא נפשיה ונשמתיה למיתותא:
lmythwtha wnshmthyh npshyh lshwkhtha wqrybth
Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

אין אית עלוי זכותא מזדמן מלאכא חדא פרקליטא מן בני אלף קטיגוריא לחואה לבני נש תריצותיה:
thrytswthyh nsh lbny lkhwah qTygwrya alp bny mn prqlyTa khda mlaka mzdmn zkwtha elwy ayth ayn
“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him,

וחס עלוי ואמר פרוק יתיה מלחמת בשוחתא אשכחית פורקנא:
pwrqna ashkkhyth bshwkhtha mlkhmth ythyh prwq wamr elwy wkhs
then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’

אתחליש בסריה יתיר מן רבותא יתוב ליומי טליותיה:
Tlywthyh lywmy ythwb rbwtha mn ythyr bsryh athkhlysh
His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.
26
וצלי קדם אלהא ורעניה וחמא אפוי ברעוא ויתיב לאנש כצדקתיה:
ktsdqthyh lansh wythyb brewa apwy wkhma wrenyh alha qdm wtsly
He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.

יתריץ לבני נשא ויימר חבית ותריץ קלקילית ולא הוה שוי לי:
ly shwy hwh wla qlqylyth wthryts khbyth wyymr nsha lbny ythryts
He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.

פרוק נפשיה מלמעבר בשוחתא ונשמתיה בנהורא מעליא תחמי:
thkhmy melya bnhwra wnshmthyh bshwkhtha mlmebr npshyh prwq
He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’
29
הא כל אלין יעבד אלהא תרי זמנין ותלת עם בר נש:
nsh br em wthlth zmnyn thry alha yebd alyn kl ha
“Behold, God does all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,
30
מטול לאתבא נפש מן שוחא לאנהרא בנהור חייא:
khyya bnhwr lanhra shwkha mn npsh lathba mTwl
to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
31
אצית איוב קבל מני שתיק ואנא אמלל:
amll wana shthyq mny qbl aywb atsyth
Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.
32
אין אית מלין אתיב יתי מלל ארום צביתי לזכאותך:
lzkawthk tsbythy arwm mll ythy athyb mlyn ayth ayn
If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.
