מן בתר כדין פתח איוב ית פומיה ולטט ית יומיה:
ywmyh yth wlTT pwmyh yth aywb pthkh kdyn bthr mn
After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.

יהובד יומא דאתילידית ביה וליליא די אמר אתברא גבר:
gbr athbra amr dy wlylya byh dathylydyth ywma yhwbd
“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’

יומא ההוא יהי קבלא לא יתבעיניה אלהא מן לעלא ולא תפע עלוי שפרפרא:
shprpra elwy thpe wla lela mn alha ythbeynyh la qbla yhy hhwa ywma
Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.

יטננון יתיה חשוכא וטולי מותא תשרי עלוי עננא יבעתון יתיה היך מרירי יומא :
ywma mryry hyk ythyh ybethwn enna elwy thshry mwtha wTwly khshwka ythyh yTnnwn
Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.

ליליא ההוא ידברניה קבלא לא יתיחד עם יומין טבין דשתא במנין רישי ירחיא לא יעול:
yewl la yrkhya ryshy bmnyn dshtha Tbyn ywmyn em ythykhd la qbla ydbrnyh hhwa lylya
As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.

הא ליליא ההוא יהי צערא לא תעול רננא דתרנגול ברא למקלסא ביה:
byh lmqlsa bra dthrngwl rnna thewl la tsera yhy hhwa lylya ha
Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.

ילטטוניה נבייא די לטטין יומא דפורענותא דאיטימוסא לאדכר באתערותהון אליותהון:
alywthhwn batherwthhwn ladkr dayTymwsa dpwrenwtha ywma lTTyn dy nbyya ylTTwnyh
Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.

יתחשכון כוכבי נשף שיריה יסתכי לאנהרא ולא יחמי בתימורי קרצתא:
qrtstha bthymwry ykhmy wla lanhra ysthky shyryh nshp kwkby ythkhshkwn
Let the stars of its twilight be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the morning,

ארום לא אחד פאתי דלתתי דהנון דשי כרסי וטמר עמלא מן עיני:
eyny mn emla wTmr krsy dshy dhnwn dlththy pathy akhd la arwm
because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.

למא לא מן רחמא אמות מכרסא כד נפקית ואתנגד:
wathngd npqyth kd mkrsa amwth rkhma mn la lma
“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

מה דין אקדימו יתי רכוביא ומה חדיא ארום איניק:
aynyq arwm khdya wmh rkwbya ythy aqdymw dyn mh
Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

ארום השתא שכיבית ואשדוך דמכית בכן ינוח לי:
ly ynwkh bkn dmkyth washdwk shkybyth hshtha arwm
For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

עם מלכיא ויעטי ארעא דמשכללין צדין להון:
lhwn tsdyn dmshkllyn area wyeTy mlkya em
with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;
15
או עם רברביא דדהב להון דממלין קורטוריהון סימא:
syma qwrTwryhwn dmmlyn lhwn ddhb rbrbya em aw
or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
16
או היך נפלא דטמיע במעינא לית אפשר דאהי היך טליא דלא חמון נהור אוריתא:
awrytha nhwr khmwn dla Tlya hyk dahy apshr lyth bmeyna dTmye npla hyk aw
or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants who never saw light.

תמן רשיעיא דעבדו תתובא פסקו רוגז גהנם ותמן ינוחון תלמידיא דאשתלהי חילהון באוריתא:
bawrytha khylhwn dashthlhy thlmydya ynwkhwn wthmn ghnm rwgz psqw ththwba debdw rshyeya thmn
There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest.

כחדא אסירי מדרשיא שליאו לא שמעו ינקי בית רבא קל אמוראה:
amwrah ql rba byth ynqy shmew la shlyaw mdrshya asyry kkhda
There the prisoners are at ease together. They don’t hear the voice of the taskmaster.

יעקב דאתקרי דרדק ואברהם דאתקרי קשיש תמן הוא ויצחק עבדא דיי דנפק בר חורין מן כופתא מן קיריס דידיה:
dydyh qyrys mn kwptha mn khwryn br dnpq dyy ebda wytskhq hwa thmn qshysh dathqry wabrhm drdq dathqry yeqb
The small and the great are there. The servant is free from his master.

למא יהיב ללעי נהורא וחיי למרירי נפש:
npsh lmryry wkhyy nhwra lley yhyb lma
“Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul,

דאורכין למותא וליתוי וחפסין ליה מן טומעיא:
Twmeya mn lyh wkhpsyn wlythwy lmwtha dawrkyn
who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,
22
דהוו חדין לדיצא השתא יחדון ארום ישכחון בית קבורתא:
qbwrtha byth yshkkhwn arwm ykhdwn hshtha ldytsa khdyn dhww
who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

כל אלין מרירתא לגבר די אורחיה מטמרא וטלל אלהא אמטולתיה:
amTwlthyh alha wTll mTmra awrkhyh dy lgbr mryrtha alyn kl
Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?

ארום קדם סעודתי תנחתי תעול ונתזן היך מוי אכליותי:
aklywthy mwy hyk wnthzn thewl thnkhthy sewdthy qdm arwm
For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.
25
ארום דחולא דחלית ואתת לותי ומה דדלחית ייתי לי:
ly yythy ddlkhyth wmh lwthy wathth dkhlyth dkhwla arwm
For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

לא שליית מבסורתא דתורי ואתנן ולא שדוכית מן בסורתא דיקדתא ולא ניחית מבסורתא דגמליא ואתא רוגזא על בסורתא די בניא:
bnya dy bswrtha el rwgza watha dgmlya mbswrtha nykhyth wla dyqdtha bswrtha mn shdwkyth wla wathnn dthwry mbswrtha shlyyth la
I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
