ܘܦܪܙܠܐ ܡܢ ܥܦܪܐ ܡܬܢܣܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܡܬܢܣܟ ܢܚܫܐ

Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.

ܩܨܐ ܣܡ ܠܚܫܘܟܐ ܘܠܟܠ ܣܘܦܐ ܗܘ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܟܐܦܐ ܕܚܒܪܐ ܘܛܠܠܗ ܕܡܘܬܐ
qts' sm lkhshwk' wlkl swp' hw yde k'p' dkhbr' wTllh dmwth'
Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

ܬܘܪܥܬܐ ܝܪܬܘ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܓܝܘܪܐ ܐܬܛܥܝܘ ܡܢ ܪ̈ܓܠܬܐ ܘܐܬܕܠܠܘ ܡܢ ܐܢܫܐ
thwreth' yrthw mn em' gywr' 'thTeyw mn rglth' w'thdllw mn 'nsh'
He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.

ܓܠܘ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܢܗ̇ ܢ̇ܦܩ ܡܙܘܢܐ ܘܬܚܘܬܝܗ̇ ܡܬܗܦܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܘܪܐ

As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

ܘܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܣܦܝܠܐ ܟܐ̈ܦܝܗ̇ ܘܫܚܠܐ ܕܕܗܒܐ ܒܫ̈ܒܝܠܝܗ̇

Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.

ܠܐ ܝܕܥܬܗ̇ ܛܝܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܙܬܗ̇ ܥܝܢ ܕܝܬܐ
l' ydethh Tyr' wl' khzthh eyn dyth'
That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.

ܘܠܐ ܕܪܫܗ̇ ܚܝ̈ܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܥܒܪ ܥܠܝܗ̇ ܐܪܝܐ
wl' drshh khywth' wl' ebr elyh 'ry'
The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.

ܒܟܐܦ ܛܪ̈ܢܝܢ ܐܘܫܛ ܐܝܕܗ ܘܗܦܟ ܡܢ ܥܩܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܛܘܪ̈ܝܢ

He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.

ܒܚܘܣܢܗ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܢ ܦ̇ܠܓ ܘܟܠ ܐܝܩܪ ܚܙܬ ܥܝܢܗ
bkhwsnh nhrwn plg wkl 'yqr khzth eynh
He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.

ܘܥܘܫܢܐ ܕܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܚܒܫ ܘܡܢ ܬܚܦܝܬܐ ܢܦܩ ܢܘܗܪܐ
wewshn' dnhrwth' khbsh wmn thkhpyth' npq nwhr'
He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light.

ܘܚܟܡܬܐ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܬܫܬܟܚ ܘܐܝܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܣܘܟܠܗ̇
wkhkmth' 'ymk' thshthkkh w'yn' hw 'thr' dswklh
“But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

ܠܐ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܫ ܓܙܗ̇ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܬܟܚܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ
l' yde 'nsh gzh wl' mshthkkh' 'l' 'n b'thr' dkhy'
Man doesn’t know its price, and it isn’t found in the land of the living.

ܬܗܘܡܐ ܐܡ̇ܪ ܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܝ ܘܝܡܐ ܐ̇ܡܪ ܠܝܬ ܠܘܬܝ

The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’

ܠܐ ܡܬܝܗܒ ܕܗܒܐ ܚܠܦܝܗ̇ ܘܠܐ ܡܬܡܢܐ ܟܣܦܐ ܒܕܡ̈ܝܗ̇
l' mthyhb dhb' khlpyh wl' mthmn' ksp' bdmyh
It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price.

ܠܐ ܡܬܚܠܦܐ ܒܕܗܒܐ ܕܐܘܦܝܪ ܘܒܒܪ̈ܘܠܐ ܘܒܣܦܝܠܐ
l' mthkhlp' bdhb' d'wpyr wbbrwl' wbspyl'
It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

ܠܐ ܦ̇ܚܡ ܠܗ̇ ܕܗܒܐ ܘܙ̈ܓܘܓܝܬܐ ܘܡܪ̈ܓܢܝܬܐ ܛܒ̈ܬܐ ܘܛ̈ܒܥܐ ܘܚܘܡܪ̈ܐ ܠܐ ܦܚܡܝܢ ܠܗ̇
l' pkhm lh dhb' wzgwgyth' wmrgnyth' Tbth' wTbe' wkhwmr' l' pkhmyn lh
Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

ܛܒܐ ܗܝ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܢ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܛܒ̈ܬܐ ܠܐ ܦ̇ܚܡ ܠܗ̇ ܦܬܘܬܟܐ ܕܗܝܐ ܘܒܙܡܪ̈ܓܕܐ ܘܒܩܪ̈ܟܕܢܐ ܠܐ ܡܬܚܠܦܐ ܛܒܐ ܗܝ ܓܝܪ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܢ ܟܘܠ ܡܕܡ ܘܡܕܡ ܠܐ ܦ̇ܚܡ ܠܗ̇
Tb' hy khkmth' mn k'p' Tbth' l' pkhm lh pthwthk' dhy' wbzmrgd' wbqrkdn' l' mthkhlp' Tb' hy gyr khkmth' mn kwl mdm wmdm l' pkhm lh
No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

ܡܪ̈ܓܢܝܬܐ ܕܟܘܫ ܘܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܕܦܕܬܐ ܠܐ ܦܚ̈ܡܢ ܠܗ̇
mrgnyth' dkwsh wk'p' dpdth' l' pkhmn lh
The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it. It won’t be valued with pure gold.

ܚܟܡܬܐ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܬܝܐ ܘܐܝܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܣܘܟܠܗ̇
khkmth' 'ymk' 'thy' w'yn' hw 'thr' dswklh
Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

ܟܣܝܐ ܗܝ ܡܢ ܥܝܢ̈ܝ ܟܠ ܕܚܝ ܘܡܢ ܦܪܚܬܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܡܣܬܪܐ ܗܝ

Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

ܐܒܕܢܐ ܘܡܘܬܐ ܐܡܪܘ ܕܒܐ̈ܕܢܝܢ ܫܡܥܢ ܫܡܥܗ̇
'bdn' wmwth' 'mrw db'dnyn shmen shmeh
Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’

ܡܛܠ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܒܝܢܢ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܗ̇ ܘܗܘܝܘ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܕܘܟܬܗ̇

“God understands its way, and he knows its place.

ܡܛܠ ܕܗܘ ܚ̇ܙܐ ܠܣܘܦ ܟܠ ܕܒܐܪܥܐ ܘܬܚܝܬ ܟܠ ܫܡܝܐ ܚ̇ܙܐ

For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.

ܕܥܒܕ ܡܬܩܠܐ ܠܪܘܚܐ ܘܡܬܩܠܐ ܐܬܩܢ ܒܟܝܠܬܐ
debd mthql' lrwkh' wmthql' 'thqn bkylth'
He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.

ܥܒܕ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܠܡܛܪܐ ܘܐܘܪܚܐ ܠܚܙ̈ܘܢܐ ܕܩܠܐ

When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder,

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܚܙܗ̇ ܘܐܫܬܥܝܗ̇ ܬܩܠܗ̇ ܘܐܦ ܒܕܩܗ̇
hydyn khzh w'shtheyh thqlh w'p bdqh
then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܒܪܢܫܐ ܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܝ ܗܝ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܠܡܣܛܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܒܘܝܢܐ
w'mr lbrnsh' dkhlthh d'lh' hy hy khkmth' wlmsT' mn byshth' bwyn'
To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
