ארום אית לסימא מפקנא ואתר לדהבא מסננין:
msnnyn ldhba wathr mpqna lsyma ayth arwm
“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.

פרזלא מעפרא יתנסיב ואבנא יתיך כרכומא:
krkwma ythyk wabna ythnsyb mepra przla
Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.

סוף שוי לחשוכא ולכל סופא הוא מפשפש אבנין מפולמן דמתמן נפק חשוך וטולי מותא:
mwtha wTwly khshwk npq dmthmn mpwlmn abnyn mpshpsh hwa swpa wlkl lkhshwka shwy swp
Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

תקיף נחלא מן אתרא די מזדלח מרזביא דמתנשין מן למעבר רגלא אזדקפו מבני נשא אטלטלו:
aTlTlw nsha mbny azdqpw rgla lmebr mn dmthnshyn mrzbya mzdlkh dy athra mn nkhla thqyp
He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.

ארעא דמנה נפק מזונא ולרע מנה גהנם דצנת תלגיה מתהפכא דכמת אשתא:
ashtha dkmth mthhpka thlgyh dtsnth ghnm mnh wlre mzwna npq dmnh area
As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

וגינתא דעדן די אתר דשבזיזא אבנהא ועפרורין דדהבא ליה:
lyh ddhba weprwryn abnha dshbzyza athr dy dedn wgyntha
Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.

אורחא דלא חכמיה עופא ולא סקרתיה עין טרפיתא: ת״א שביל אילן חיי דלא חכמיה סמאל דפרח היך עופא ולא סקרתיה עינא דחוה:
dkhwh eyna sqrthyh wla ewpa hyk dprkh smal khkmyh dla khyy ayln shbyl tha Trpytha eyn sqrthyh wla ewpa khkmyh dla awrkha
That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.

לא טיילו בה בני אריון לא זיאר עלוי ליתא: ת״א לא הליכו בה בני אדם ולא סטא עלוהי חויא:
khwya elwhy sTa wla adm bny bh hlykw la tha lytha elwy zyar la arywn bny bh Tyylw la
The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.

בשמיר אושיט ידיה הפך מן עקריהון טוריא:
Twrya eqryhwn mn hpk ydyh awshyT bshmyr
He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.

בטינרין נהרין בזע וכל איקרא חמת עיניה:
eynyh khmth ayqra wkl bze nhryn bTynryn
He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.

מן קלילי נהריא זרז ומחרכא דתעלומא יפיק נהורא:
nhwra ypyq dthelwma wmkhrka zrz nhrya qlyly mn
He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light.

וחוכמתא מאן האן תשתכח והאן דין אתר ביונתא:
bywntha athr dyn whan thshthkkh han man wkhwkmtha
“But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

לא ידע בר נש עלויה ולא תשכח בארעא דזנין דמחטין בחייהון:
bkhyyhwn dmkhTyn dznyn barea thshkkh wla elwyh nsh br yde la
Man doesn’t know its price, and it isn’t found in the land of the living.

תהומא אמר לא גבי היא וימא אמר לית בהדי:
bhdy lyth amr wyma hya gby la amr thhwma
The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’
15
לא יתיהב דהב סגין חלופהא ולא יתקל סימא פרוגה:
prwgh syma ythql wla khlwpha sgyn dhb ythyhb la
It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price.

לא תשתלחף בפטלון דמן אופיר בבירולין יקר ושבזיזא:
wshbzyza yqr bbyrwlyn awpyr dmn bpTlwn thshthlkhp la
It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

לא יעלינה דהבא אספקלרא ופרוגה מאני אובריזין: ת״א לא יסדרנה גבר עתיר בדהב וזכוכיתא לא יהב חלופה מאני דדהבא סנינא:
snyna ddhba many khlwph yhb la wzkwkytha bdhb ethyr gbr ysdrnh la tha awbryzyn many wprwgh aspqlra dhba yelynh la
Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

סנדלכין ובירולין לא ידכר ונגדא דחוכמתא מן מרגלין: ת״א לית אפשר דתשתכח בקילותא אלהין ביוקרא היך דהבא ומן דלא ינטרונה אזלא ומתברא היך זגוגיתא ופרוג אגרה לעלמא דאתי מני פזוזיא:
pzwzya mny dathy lelma agrh wprwg zgwgytha hyk wmthbra azla ynTrwnh dla wmn dhba hyk bywqra alhyn bqylwtha dthshthkkh apshr lyth tha mrglyn mn dkhwkmtha wngda ydkr la wbyrwlyn sndlkyn
No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

לא יעלינה מרגלא ירקא דאתי מן כוש בפטלון דכי לא תשתלחף:
thshthlkhp la dky bpTlwn kwsh mn dathy yrqa mrgla yelynh la
The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it. It won’t be valued with pure gold.

וחוכמתא מן האן תיתי והאל דין אתר ביונתא:
bywntha athr dyn whal thythy han mn wkhwkmtha
Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?
21
וכסיא ממחמיהון דכל חי ומעופא דשמיא ממטרא:
mmTra dshmya wmewpa khy dkl mmkhmyhwn wksya
Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

בי אבדנא ומלאך מותא אמרו באתיהבא לישראל במשמענה שמענה שמועתא:
shmwetha shmenh bmshmenh lyshral bathyhba amrw mwtha wmlak abdna by
Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’

אלהא אתבין אורחה והוא ידע ית אתרה:
athrh yth yde whwa awrkhh athbyn alha
“God understands its way, and he knows its place.

ארום הוא לסיפי ארעא יסתכל תחות כל שמיא יחמי:
ykhmy shmya kl thkhwth ysthkl area lsypy hwa arwm
For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.
25
למעבד לרוחא מתקלא ומיא אתקין במשחתא:
bmshkhtha athqyn wmya mthqla lrwkha lmebd
He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.

במעבדיה למטרא קימא גזרתא ומהלך לחזיזי דרהטין בקליא:
bqlya drhTyn lkhzyzy wmhlk gzrtha qyma lmTra bmebdyh
When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder,

הידין חמיה ואשתעיה עם מלאכי שירותא אתקנה לחוד פשפש יתה:
ythh pshpsh lkhwd athqnh shyrwtha mlaky em washtheyh khmyh hydyn
then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.
