אפשר דלאלהא יאלף גבר וכד ילף אפשר דעליהון משגח:
mshgkh delyhwn apshr ylp wkd gbr yalp dlalha apshr
“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.

העסקא אית לשדי ארום תזכי ואין ממון ארום תשלם אורחתך:
awrkhthk thshlm arwm mmwn wayn thzky arwm lshdy ayth hesqa
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?

המדדחל מנך יכסנך ייתי עמך בדינא:
bdyna emk yythy yksnk mnk hmddkhl
Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?

הלא על בישתך דסגיעא ולית סוף לעויתך:
lewythk swp wlyth dsgyea byshthk el hla
Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.

ארום תמשכן אחוך מגן ולבושין דערטילאין תשלח:
thshlkh derTylayn wlbwshyn mgn akhwk thmshkn arwm
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

לא מיא למשלהי תשקי ומן כפן תמנע לחמא:
lkhma thmne kpn wmn thshqy lmshlhy mya la
You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

וגבר נצחן ליה ארעא וסביר אפין יתיב בה:
bh ythyb apyn wsbyr area lyh ntskhn wgbr
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.

ארמלתא שדרתא סריקתא ואדרעת יתומי תשפך:
thshpk ythwmy wadreth sryqtha shdrtha armltha
You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

מטול היכנא חזרנותך פוחין ויבהלנך דלוחא בתכף:
bthkp dlwkha wybhlnk pwkhyn khzrnwthk hykna mTwl
Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,

או בחשוכא תשרי ולא תחמי וסוגעת מיא תחפנך:
thkhpnk mya wswgeth thkhmy wla thshry bkhshwka aw
or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.

הלא אלהא בגובהי שמיא וחמי ריש כוכביא ארום זקיפו:
zqypw arwm kwkbya rysh wkhmy shmya bgwbhy alha hla
“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!

ותימר מה ידע אלהא האפשר דלהלא לאמיטתא ידין:
ydyn lamyTtha dlhla hapshr alha yde mh wthymr
You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
14
ענניא טמיר ליה ולא יחמי ותקיף רומא דשמיא יטיל:
yTyl dshmya rwma wthqyp ykhmy wla lyh Tmyr ennya
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’

האורחא דהוה מן עלמא תנטור די טילו אנשי שקרא:
shqra anshy Tylw dy thnTwr elma mn dhwh hawrkha
Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,
16
דאתבטילו מן ארעא בלא עדנהון בארעית נהרא אתיך גופהון:
gwphwn athyk nhra bareyth ednhwn bla area mn dathbTylw
who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
17
דאמרין לאלהא זור מננא ומא יעבד שדי להון:
lhwn shdy yebd wma mnna zwr lalha damryn
who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
18
והוא מלי בתיהון טובא ומלכתהון דרשיעי רחקת מני:
mny rkhqth drshyey wmlkthhwn Twba bthyhwn mly whwa
Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19
יחמון צדיקיא ויחדון וזכאה ידחך להון:
lhwn ydkhk wzkah wykhdwn tsdyqya ykhmwn
The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,
20
אין לא אתמניעו מלמקום ומותרהון גמרת אשתא:
ashtha gmrth wmwthrhwn mlmqwm athmnyew la ayn
saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
21
אלף כדון עמיה ותשתלם בהון עללתך טובא:
Twba ellthk bhwn wthshthlm emyh kdwn alp
“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
22
גמר כדון מפומיה אוריתא ושוי מימרוי בלבבך:
blbbk mymrwy wshwy awrytha mpwmyh kdwn gmr
Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
23
אין תתוב עד שדי תתבני תרחק עולתא ממשכנך:
mmshknk ewltha thrkhq ththbny shdy ed ththwb ayn
If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
24
ושוי על עפרא כרך תקיף והיך טינרא דנחליא דהבא דאופיר:
dawpyr dhba dnkhlya Tynra whyk thqyp krk epra el wshwy
Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
25
ויהי שדי כרך תוקפך ומן כסף תקוף רומא דילך:
dylk rwma thqwp ksp wmn thwqpk krk shdy wyhy
The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
26
ארום היכדין על שדי תתפרנק ותזקוף קדם אלהא אפיך:
apyk alha qdm wthzqwp ththprnq shdy el hykdyn arwm
For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
27
תצלי קדמוי ויקבל מנך ונדריך תשלם:
thshlm wndryk mnk wyqbl qdmwy thtsly
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
28
ותגזר מימרא ויקום לך ועל אורחתך יזהר נהורא:
nhwra yzhr awrkhthk wel lk wyqwm mymra wthgzr
You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
29
ארום דרא דאמאך יתעבד גיותן ושוח בסורחנא תפרוק:
thprwq bswrkhna wshwkh gywthn ythebd damak dra arwm
When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
