“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.

ܣܝܒܪܘܢܝ ܘܐܡܠܠ ܘܒܬܪ ܦܬ̈ܓܡܝ ܡܝܩܘ
sybrwny w'mll wbthr pthgmy myqw
Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.

ܐܡܪ ܠܒܪܢܫܐ ܡ̈ܠܝ ܠܡܢܐ ܡܬܥܝܩܐ ܪܘܚܝ
'mr lbrnsh' mly lmn' mtheyq' rwkhy
As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn’t I be impatient?

ܐܬܦܢܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܬܡܗܘ ܘܣܝܡܘ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܦܘܡܟܘܢ
'thpnw lwthy wthmhw wsymw 'ydykwn el pwmkwn
Look at me, and be astonished. Lay your hand on your mouth.

ܕܐܢ ܐܬܕܟܪܬ ܐܬܬܙܝܥܬ ܘܐܚܕܘ ܠܒܣܪܝ ܨܘܪ̈ܢܐ
d'n 'thdkrth 'ththzyeth w'khdw lbsry tswrn'
When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.

ܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܚ̈ܝܝܢ ܘܡܥܬܩܝܢ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ
mTl mn' rshye' khyyn wmethqyn gnbry khyl'
“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?

ܙܪܥܗܘܢ ܡܬܩܢ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܘܒ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܠܥܢܝ̈ܗܘܢ
zrehwn mthqn qdmyhwn wbnyhwn lenyhwn
Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes.

ܒܬ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܫܠܝܢ ܡܢ ܕܚܠܬܐ ܘܠܝܬ ܫܒܛܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ
bthyhwn shlyn mn dkhlth' wlyth shbTh d'lh' elyhwn
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

ܬܘܪܗ ܥ̇ܒܪ ܘܠܐ ܓ̇ܥܐ ܘܦ̇ܠܛܐ ܬܘܪܬܗ ܘܠܐ ܡܚܒܠܐ

Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and don’t miscarry.

ܡܫܪܪܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܥܢܐ ܒܢܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܝ̈ܠܘܕܝܗܘܢ ܡܫܘܪ̈ܝܢ
mshrryn 'yk en' bnyhwn wylwdyhwn mshwryn
They send out their little ones like a flock. Their children dance.

ܫܩܠܘ ܦ̈ܠܓܐ ܘܟܢܪ̈ܐ ܘܚܕܝܢ ܠܩܠܐ ܕܙܡܪܐ
shqlw plg' wknr' wkhdyn lql' dzmr'
They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

ܡܓܡܪܝܢ ܒܛ̈ܒܬܐ ܝܘܡܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܒܥܓܠ ܠܫܝܘܠ ܢܚܬܝܢ
mgmryn bTbth' ywmyhwn wbegl lshywl nkhthyn
They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܥܒܪ ܡܢܢ ܘܠܡܕܥ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܟ ܠܐ ܨܒܝܢܢ
w'mryn l'lh' ebr mnn wlmde 'wrkhthk l' tsbynn
They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܡ̇ܢ ܗܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܦܠܚܝܘܗܝ ܐܘ ܡܢܐ ܝܬܪܝܢܢ ܕܢܒܥܐ ܡܢܗ
w'mryn mn hw 'lh' dnplkhywhy 'w mn' ythrynn dnbe' mnh
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’

ܗܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܛܘܒܗܘܢ ܘܡܚܫܒܬܗܘܢ ܕܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܐܬܪܚܩܬ ܡܢܝ
h' l' hw' b'ydyhwn Twbhwn wmkhshbthhwn drshye' 'thrkhqth mny
Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

ܟܡܐ ܢܕܥܟ ܫܪܓܗܘܢ ܕܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܘܢܐܬܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܬܒܪܐ ܚܒܠܐ ܢܦܠܓ ܪܘܓܙܗ
km' ndek shrghwn drshye' wn'th' elyhwn thbr' khbl' nplg rwgzh
“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?

ܘܢܗܘܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܬܒܢܐ ܩܕܡ ܪܘܚܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܥܘܪܐ ܕܫܩܠܐ ܠܗ ܟܘܟܝܬܐ
wnhwwn 'yk thbn' qdm rwkh' w'yk ewr' dshql' lh kwkyth'
How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?

ܐܠܗܐ ܢܛܪ ܥܘܠܗ ܠܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܢܦܪܥܝܘܗܝ ܘܢܕܥ
'lh' nTr ewlh lbnwhy wnpreywhy wnde
You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.

ܘܢܚ̈ܙܝܢ ܥܝ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܐܒܕܢܗ ܘܡܢ ܚܡܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܢܫܬܐ
wnkhzyn eynwhy 'bdnh wmn khmthh d'lh' nshth'
Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

ܡܢܘ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܘܡܢܝܢܐ ܕܝܪ̈ܚܘܗܝ ܢܬܢܛܪܘܢ ܠܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ
mnw tsbynh bbythh mn bthrh wmnyn' dyrkhwhy nthnTrwn lbnwhy
For what does he care for his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

ܠܐܠܗܐ ܡܠܦܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܕܗܘ ܠܪ̈ܡܐ ܢܕܘܢ
l'lh' mlpyn 'nthwn ydeth' dhw lrm' ndwn
“Shall any teach God knowledge, since he judges those who are high?

ܕܐܢ ܗܢܐ ܢܡܘܬ ܒܥܘܫܢܐ ܕܫܠܡܘܬܗ ܕܬܟܝܠ ܗܘܐ ܘܫܠܐ
d'n hn' nmwth bewshn' dshlmwthh dthkyl hw' wshl'
One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

ܘܓܒ̈ܘܗܝ ܡܠܝܢ ܬܪܒܐ ܘܓܪ̈ܡܘܗܝ ܡܠܝܢ ܡܘܚܐ
wgbwhy mlyn thrb' wgrmwhy mlyn mwkh'
His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.

ܗܢܐ ܢܡܘܬ ܒܢܦܫ ܡܪܝܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܟܠ ܒܛܒܬܐ
hn' nmwth bnpsh mryr' wl' 'kl bTbth'
Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.

ܐܟܚܕܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܫܟܒܝܢ ܘܪܡܬܐ ܬܟܣܐ ܐܢܘܢ
'kkhd' el 're' shkbyn wrmth' thks' 'nwn
They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.

ܗܐ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܡܚܫ̈ܒܬܟܘܢ ܘܡܠ̣ܟܐ ܕܥܠܝ ܡܬܚܫܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
h' yde 'n' mkhshbthkwn wmlk' dely mthkhshbyn 'nthwn
“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.

ܡܛܘܠ ܕܐܡܪܬܘܢ ܕܐܝܟܘ ܒܝܬܗ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܘܐܝܢܘ ܡܫܪܝܐ ܕܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ
mTwl d'mrthwn d'ykw bythh dzdyq' w'ynw mshry' dmshkn' drshye'
For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’

ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܫܐܠܬܘܢ ܠܥܒܪ̈ܝ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܐ̈ܬܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܫܬܘܕܥܬܘܢ
l' gyr sh'lthwn lebry 'wrkh' w'thwthhwn l' 'shthwdethwn
Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences,

ܡܛܠ ܕܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܒܪܐ ܡܬܢܛܪ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܪܘܓܙܐ ܡܬܕܟܪ
mTl dlywm' dthbr' mthnTr bysh' wlywm' drwgz' mthdkr
that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?

ܡܢܘ ܡܚܘܐ ܠܗ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܗ̇ܘ ܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܢܘ ܦ̇ܪܥ ܠܗ
mnw mkhw' lh 'wrkh' whw mdm debd mnw pre lh
Who will declare his way to his face? Who will repay him what he has done?

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐ̇ܙܠ ܠܩܒܪܐ ܘܠܓܕܫܐ ܡܬܢܛܪ
hw dyn 'zl lqbr' wlgdsh' mthnTr
Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb.

ܒܠܥܝܢ ܠܗ ܓܦܝ̈ܦܝ ܢܚܠܐ ܘܒܬܪܗ ܟܠܢܫ ܡܬܢܓܕ ܘܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܠܝܬ ܡܢܝܢ
bleyn lh gpypy nkhl' wbthrh klnsh mthngd wqdmwhy lyth mnyn
The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him.

ܘܐܝܟܐ ܬܠܒܒܘܢܢܝ ܗܒܠܐ ܘܬܝܒܬܐ ܕܦܬ̈ܓܡܘܗܝ ܝܬܪܘ ܩܕܡܝ

So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”
