ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܥܘܨ ܐܝܘܒ ܫܡܗ ܓܒܪ ܗܘܐ ܬܡܝܡ ܘܙܕܝܩ ܘܕ̇ܚܠ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܣ̇ܛܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܫܬܐ
byshth' mn wsT' l'lh' wdkhl wzdyq thmym hw' gbr shmh 'ywb dewts b're' hw' 'yth khd gbr'
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

ܘܐܬܝܠܕܘ ܠܗ ܫܒܥܐ ܒܢܝ̈ܢ ܘܬܠܬ ܒ̈ܢܢ
bnn wthlth bnyn shbe' lh w'thyldw
There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

ܘܗܘܐ ܩܢܝܢܗ ܫܒܥܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܥܢܐ ܘܬܠܬܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܚܡܫܡܐܐ ܦܕܢܝ̈ܢ ܕܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܚܡܫܡܐܐ ܐ̈ܬܢܝܢ ܘܥܒܕܬܐ ܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܛܒ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܪܒ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܡܕܢܚܐ
mdnkh' bny klhwn mn hw' rb hw wgbr' dTb swg'' webdth' 'thnyn wkhmshm'' dthwr' pdnyn wkhmshm'' gml' 'lpyn wthlth' en' 'lpyn shbe' qnynh whw'
His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.

ܘܐܙܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܥܒܕܝܢ ܡܫܬܝܐ ܒܝܬ ܓܒܪ ܕܝܘܡܗ ܘܡܫܕܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܩܪܝܢ ܠܬܠܬ ܐܚ̈ܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܡܐܟܠ ܘܠܡܫܬܐ ܥܡܗܘܢ
emhwn wlmshth' lm'kl 'khwthhwn lthlth wqryn hww wmshdryn dywmh gbr byth mshthy' webdyn bnwhy hww w'zlyn
His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܐܩܦܘ ܝܘܡ̈ܝ ܡܫܬܝܐ ܫܕܪ ܐܝܘܒ ܘܩܕܫ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܩ̇ܕܡ ܐܝܘܒ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܘܐܣܩ ܕܒܚ̈ܐ ܡܢܝܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܡܪ ܐܝܘܒ ܕܠܡܐ ܚܛܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܘܨܚܝܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܒܠܒܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ ܐܝܘܒ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ
ywmth' klhwn 'ywb hw' ebd hkn' blbhwn l'lh' wtskhyw bny khTw dlm' 'ywb d'mr mTl klhwn mnyn dbkh' w'sq btspr' 'ywb wqdm 'nwn wqdsh 'ywb shdr mshthy' ywmy 'qpw dkd whw'
It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.

ܘܗܘܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܘܐܬܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܠܘܗܝܡ ܠܡܩܡ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܬܐ ܐܦ ܣܛܢܐ ܒܝܢܬܗܘܢ ܠܡܩܡ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' qdm lmqm bynthhwn sTn' 'p w'th' mry' qdm lmqm 'lwhym bny w'thw ywm' whw'
Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, Satan also came among them.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܣܛܢܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܬܐ ܐܢܬ ܥܢܐ ܣܛܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܚܕܪܬ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܘܗܠܟܬ ܒܗ̇
bh whlkth b're' khdrth lmry' w'mr sTn' en' 'nth 'th' 'ymk' mn lsTn' mry' w'mr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܣܛܢܐ ܗܐ ܣܡܬ ܠܒܟ ܥܠ ܥܒܕܝ ܐܝܘܒ ܕܠܝܬ ܐܟܘܬܗ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܓܒܪ ܬܡܝܡ ܘܬܪܝܨ ܘܕ̇ܚܠ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܣ̇ܛܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܫܬܐ
byshth' mn wsT' l'lh' wdkhl wthryts thmym gbr b're' 'kwthh dlyth 'ywb ebdy el lbk smth h' lsTn' mry' w'mr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”

ܘܥܢܐ ܣܛܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܣܪܝܩܐܝܬ ܓܝܪ ܕܚ̇ܠ ܐܝܘܒ ܠܐܠܗܐ
l'lh' 'ywb dkhl gyr sryq'yth lmry' w'mr sTn' wen'
Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?

ܐܢܬ ܐܓܢܬ ܐܝܕܟ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܥܠ ܒܝܬܗ ܘܥܠ ܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܥܠ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܒܟܠ ܕܘܟܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܒܪܟܬ ܘܩܢܝܢܗ ܣܓܝ ܒܐܪܥܐ
b're' sgy wqnynh brkth 'ydwhy webd dwk' bkl lh d'yth mdm kl wel bnwhy wel bythh wel elwhy 'ydk 'gnth 'nth
Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

ܒܪܡ ܕܝܢ ܐܘܫܛ ܐܝܕܟ ܘܩܪܘܒ ܠܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܐܠܐ ܒܐ̈ܦܝܟ ܢܨ̇ܚܝܟ
ntskhyk b'pyk 'l' lh d'yth mdm lkl wqrwb 'ydk 'wshT dyn brm
But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܣܛܢܐ ܗܐ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܡܫܠܡ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܠܐ ܬܘܫܛ ܐܝܕܟ ܘܢܦܩ ܣܛܢܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܐ̈ܦܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ
dmry' 'pwhy qdm mn sTn' wnpq 'ydk thwshT l' elwhy blkhwd b'ydyk mshlm lh d'yth mdm kl h' lsTn' mry' w'mr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh.

ܘܗܘܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܘܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܒܢ̈ܬܗ ܕܐܝܘܒ ܐܟܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܫܬܝܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܚܘܗܘܢ ܩܫܝܫܐ
qshysh' 'khwhwn byth wshthyn hww 'klyn d'ywb wbnthh wbnwhy ywm' whw'
It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

ܘܡܠܐܟܐ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܝܘܒ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܕܒܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܦ̈ܕܢܐ ܘܐ̈ܬܢܐ ܪ̈ܥܝܢ ܗ̈ܘܝ ܥܠ ܓܒܗܘܢ
gbhwn el hwy reyn w'thn' pdn' hww dbryn thwr' lh w'mr 'ywb lwth 'th' wml'k'
that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,

ܘܢܦܠ ܓܝܣܐ ܘܕܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܥ̈ܠܝܡܐ ܐܬܩܛܠܘ ܒܚܪܒܐ ܘܐܬܦܠܛܬ ܐܢܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ
d'khwyk blkhwdy 'n' w'thplTth bkhrb' 'thqTlw welym' 'nwn wdbr gys' wnpl
and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

ܘܥܕ ܗܘ ܡܡܠܠ ܐܬܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܢܘܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܢܦܠܬ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܘܣܦܬ ܒܥܢܐ ܘܒܪ̈ܥܘܬܐ ܘܐܘܩܕܬ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܬܦܠܛܬ ܐܢܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ
d'khwyk blkhwdy 'n' w'thplTth 'nwn w'wqdth wbrewth' ben' wspth shmy' mn nplth d'lh' nwrh lh w'mr 'khrn' 'th' mmll hw wed
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

ܘܥܕ ܗܘ ܡܡܠܠ ܐܬܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܟ̈ܠܕܝܐ ܐܬܦܠܓܘ ܠܬܠܬ ܡ̈ܢܘܢ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܥܠ ܓܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܕܒܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܠܥ̈ܠܝܡܐ ܩܛܠܘ ܒܚܪܒܐ ܘܐܬܦܠܛܬ ܐܢܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ
d'khwyk blkhwdy 'n' w'thplTth bkhrb' qTlw wlelym' 'nwn wdbrw gml' el wnplw mnwn lthlth 'thplgw kldy' lh w'mr 'khrn' 'th' mmll hw wed
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

ܘܥܕ ܗܘ ܡܡܠܠ ܐܬܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܒܢܝ̈ܟ ܘܒܢ̈ܬܟ ܐܟܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܫܬܝܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܚܘܗܘܢ ܩܫܝܫܐ
qshysh' 'khwhwn byth wshthyn hww 'klyn wbnthk bnyk lh w'mr 'khrn' 'th' mmll hw wed
While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

ܘܗܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܬܩܝܦܬܐ ܐܬܬ ܡܢ ܥܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܡܕܒܪܐ ܘܐܬܛܪܝܬ ܒܐܪ̈ܒܥ ܙܘܝ̈ܬܗ ܕܒܝܬܐ ܘܢܦܠ ܥܠ ܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܘܡܝܬܘ ܘܐܬܦܠܛܬ ܐܢܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ
d'khwyk blkhwdy 'n' w'thplTth wmythw Tly' el wnpl dbyth' zwythh b'rbe w'thTryth dmdbr' ebr' mn 'thth thqypth' rwkh' wh'
and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”

ܘܩܡ ܐܝܘܒ ܘܨܪܐ ܦܪܝܣܗ ܘܓܙ ܪܝܫܗ ܘܢܦܠ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܣܓܕ

Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.

ܘܐܡܪ ܥܪܛܠ ܢܦܩܬ ܡܢ ܟܪܣܗ̇ ܕܐܡܝ ܘܥܪܛܠ ܐܗܦܘܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܝܗܒ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܢܣܒ ܢܗܘܐ ܫܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܡܒܪܟ
mbrk dmry' shmh nhw' nsb wmry' yhb mry' 'hpwk werTl d'my krsh mn npqth erTl w'mr
He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”
