גבר הוה בארעא דעוץ איוב שמיה והוה גברא ההוא שלים ותריץ דחל מן קדם יי ועדי מן ביש:
bysh mn wedy yy qdm mn dkhl wthryts shlym hhwa gbra whwh shmyh aywb dewts barea hwh gbr
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

ואתילידו ליה שבע בנין ותלת בנן:
bnn wthlth bnyn shbe lyh wathylydw
There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

והוה גיתי שבעא אלפין דען מן אלפא לכל ברא ותלתא אלפין דגמליא מן אלפא לכל ברתא וחמש מאה פדנין דתורין לגרמיה וחמש מאה אתנן לגרם אתתיה ופולחנא סגיאה לחדא והוה גברא ההוא רב בנכסין מכל בני מדנחא:
mdnkha bny mkl bnksyn rb hhwa gbra whwh lkhda sgyah wpwlkhna aththyh lgrm athnn mah wkhmsh lgrmyh dthwryn pdnyn mah wkhmsh brtha lkl alpa mn dgmlya alpyn wthltha bra lkl alpa mn den alpyn shbea gythy whwh
His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.

ואזלין בנוי ועבדין שירותא בית גבר יומיה עד משלם יומי שבעא ומשדרין ומזמנין לתלת אחיתהון למיכל ולמשתי עמהון:
emhwn wlmshthy lmykl akhythhwn lthlth wmzmnyn wmshdryn shbea ywmy mshlm ed ywmyh gbr byth shyrwtha webdyn bnwy wazlyn
His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

והוה כד שלימו יומי שירותא ושדר איוב וזמננון ומקדים בצפרא ומסק עלון סכומי כולהון ארום אמר איוב דלמא חבון בני וארגיזו קדם יי ברעינהון הכדין יעבד איוב כל יומיא:
ywmya kl aywb yebd hkdyn breynhwn yy qdm wargyzw bny khbwn dlma aywb amr arwm kwlhwn skwmy elwn wmsq btspra wmqdym wzmnnwn aywb wshdr shyrwtha ywmy shlymw kd whwh
It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.

והוה ביומא דדינא בריש שתא ואתו כתי מלאכיא למקום בדינא קדם יי ואתי לחוד סטנא במציעהון:
bmtsyehwn sTna lkhwd wathy yy qdm bdyna lmqwm mlakya kthy wathw shtha brysh ddyna bywma whwh
Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, Satan also came among them.

ואמר יי לסטנא מנן את אתי ואתיב סטנא קדם יי ואמר מן שוט בארעא למבדק בעובדי בני אנשא ומן מהלכא בה:
bh mhlka wmn ansha bny bewbdy lmbdq barea shwT mn wamr yy qdm sTna wathyb athy ath mnn lsTna yy wamr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

ואמר יי לסטנא אפשר דשויתא לבך בעבדי איוב ארום לית דכמיה בארעא דעממי גבר שלים ותריץ דחל מן קדם יי ועדי מן ביש:
bysh mn wedy yy qdm mn dkhl wthryts shlym gbr demmy barea dkmyh lyth arwm aywb bebdy lbk dshwytha apshr lsTna yy wamr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”

ואתיב סטנא קדם יי ואמר האפשר די למגן איוב דחל קדם יי:
yy qdm dkhl aywb lmgn dy hapshr wamr yy qdm sTna wathyb
Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?

הלא מימרך טללתא אמטולתיה ואמטול ביתיה ואמטול כל די ליה מן חזור חזור עובדי ידוי ברכתא וגיתוי תקיפו בארעא:
barea thqypw wgythwy brktha ydwy ewbdy khzwr khzwr mn lyh dy kl wamTwl bythyh wamTwl amTwlthyh Tlltha mymrk hla
Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

וברם אושיט כדון מחת ידך וקריב בכל די ליה אין לא באנפי מימרך ירגזנך:
yrgznk mymrk banpy la ayn lyh dy bkl wqryb ydk mkhth kdwn awshyT wbrm
But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”

ואמר יי לסיטנא הא כל דאית ליה מסיר בידך לחוד לותיה לא תושיט ידך ונפק סטנא בהרמנא מן קדם יי:
yy qdm mn bhrmna sTna wnpq ydk thwshyT la lwthyh lkhwd bydk msyr lyh dayth kl ha lsyTna yy wamr
Yahweh said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh.

והוה אתחולי יומא שבועתא ובנוי ובנתיה אכלין ושתין חמרא בבית אחוהון בוכרא:
bwkra akhwhwn bbyth khmra wshthyn aklyn wbnthyh wbnwy shbwetha ywma athkhwly whwh
It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

ואזגד אתא לות איוב ואמר תוריא הואה רדין ואתנן רען על סטריהון:
sTryhwn el ren wathnn rdyn hwah thwrya wamr aywb lwth atha wazgd
that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,

ונפלת בתכיף לילית מלכת זמרגד ודברתנון וית עולמיא קטלו אוכלוסהא לפתגם דחרב ואשתיזבית לחוד אנא לבלחודי לחואה לך:
lk lkhwah lblkhwdy ana lkhwd washthyzbyth dkhrb lpthgm awklwsha qTlw ewlmya wyth wdbrthnwn zmrgd mlkth lylyth bthkyp wnplth
and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

עד כדון דין ממליל ודין אתא ואמר אשתא מן קדם יי נפלת מן שמיא ואוקידת בענא ובעולמיא וגמרתינון ואשתזבית לחוד אנא לבלחודי לחואה לך:
lk lkhwah lblkhwdy ana lkhwd washthzbyth wgmrthynwn wbewlmya bena wawqydth shmya mn nplth yy qdm mn ashtha wamr atha wdyn mmlyl dyn kdwn ed
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

עד כדון דין ממלל ודין אתא ואמר כסדאי מניאו תלתא רישי אוכלוסין ואתפשטו על גמליא ודברנון וית עולמיא קטלו לפתגם דחרב ואשתזבית לחוד אנא לבלחודי לחואה לך:
lk lkhwah lblkhwdy ana lkhwd washthzbyth dkhrb lpthgm qTlw ewlmya wyth wdbrnwn gmlya el wathpshTw awklwsyn ryshy thltha mnyaw ksday wamr atha wdyn mmll dyn kdwn ed
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

עד כדון דין ממלל ודין אתא ואמר בנך ובנתך אכלין ושתין חמר בבית אחוהון בוכרא:
bwkra akhwhwn bbyth khmr wshthyn aklyn wbnthk bnk wamr atha wdyn mmll dyn kdwn ed
While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

והא זעפא רבתא אתיא מסטרי מדברא וקריב בארבע זוין דביתא ונפל על עולמיא ומיתו ואשתזבית לחוד אנא לבלחודי לחואה לך:
lk lkhwah lblkhwdy ana lkhwd washthzbyth wmythw ewlmya el wnpl dbytha zwyn barbe wqryb mdbra msTry athya rbtha zepa wha
and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”

וקם איוב ובזע ית מעיליה וספר ית רישיה ונפל על ארעא וסגיד:
wsgyd area el wnpl ryshyh yth wspr meylyh yth wbze aywb wqm
Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.
21
ואמר ערטילי נפקית מן כרסא דאמי וערטילי אתוב לבית קבורתא מימרא דיי יהב ומימרא דיי ובית דיניה נסיב יהי שמא דיי מברך:
mbrk dyy shma yhy nsyb dynyh wbyth dyy wmymra yhb dyy mymra qbwrtha lbyth athwb werTyly damy krsa mn npqyth erTyly wamr
He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”
