אתגזרת נפשי בחיי אשבוק עלי מלי אמלל במרירות נפשי:
npshy bmryrwth amll mly ely ashbwq bkhyy npshy athgzrth
“My soul is weary of my life. I will give free course to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

אימר לאלהא לא תחיבנני אודע יתי מטול מה תנצי עמי:
emy thntsy mh mTwl ythy awde thkhybnny la lalha aymr
I will tell God, ‘Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

התקין קדמך ארום תטלום ארום תרחק לעות ידך ועל מלכת דרשיעי אופעת:
awpeth drshyey mlkth wel ydk lewth thrkhq arwm thTlwm arwm qdmk hthqyn
Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

העינין כבר בשרא לך אין כמחמי בר נש תחמי:
thkhmy nsh br kmkhmy ayn lk bshra kbr heynyn
Do you have eyes of flesh? Or do you see as man sees?

הכיומי בר נש יומיך אין שניך היך יומי גברא:
gbra ywmy hyk shnyk ayn ywmyk nsh br hkywmy
Are your days as the days of mortals, or your years as man’s years,

ארום תבעי לעויתי ולחובי תתבע:
ththbe wlkhwby lewythy thbey arwm
that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

על מנדעך ארום לא אתחיב ולית מן ידך פצי:
ptsy ydk mn wlyth athkhyb la arwm mndek el
Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.

ידך צירוני ועבדו יתי כחדא חזור חזור וסלעמתא יתי:
ythy wslemtha khzwr khzwr kkhda ythy webdw tsyrwny ydk
“‘Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.

אדכר כדון ארום איך טנא עבדתני ולעפרא תתיבנני:
ththybnny wlepra ebdthny Tna ayk arwm kdwn adkr
Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again?

הלא היך חלבא סננתא יתי והיך גובנין קדשתא יתי:
ythy qdshtha gwbnyn whyk ythy snntha khlba hyk hla
Haven’t you poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?

משכא ובסרא אלבשתני ובגרמיא וגדיא אשתיתני:
ashthythny wgdya wbgrmya albshthny wbsra mshka
You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.

חיי וחסדא עבדתא עמי ודכרנך נטרת רוחי:
rwkhy nTrth wdkrnk emy ebdtha wkhsda khyy
You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit.
13
ואלין אטישתא בלבך ידעית ארום דא גבך:
gbk da arwm ydeyth blbk aTyshtha walyn
Yet you hid these things in your heart. I know that this is with you:

אין חבית ונטרתני ומן חובי לא תזכנני:
thzknny la khwby wmn wnTrthny khbyth ayn
if I sin, then you mark me. You will not acquit me from my iniquity.

אין חבית חבל עלי מן דינא רבא וזכיתי לא אזקוף רישי מן קדם חיביא דאסבע חסודא ואחמי סגופי:
sgwpy wakhmy khswda dasbe khybya qdm mn ryshy azqwp la wzkythy rba dyna mn ely khbl khbyth ayn
If I am wicked, woe to me. If I am righteous, I still will not lift up my head, being filled with disgrace, and conscious of my affliction.

וארים ידיה היך אריא תצור יתי ותתוב תדין בי:
by thdyn wththwb ythy thtswr arya hyk ydyh warym
If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.

תחדת סהדיך לקבלי ותסגי רוגזך בהדי מתחלפן מחותא מתחילין גבי:
gby mthkhylyn mkhwtha mthkhlpn bhdy rwgzk wthsgy lqbly shdyk thkhdth
You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me. Changes and warfare are with me.

ולמא מן רחמא אפקתני אתנגיד ועינא לא תסכנני:
thsknny la weyna athngyd apqthny rkhma mn wlma
“‘Why, then, have you brought me out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.

היכמה דלא הויתי אהי מן כריסא לבי קבורתא אתעל:
athel qbwrtha lby krysa mn ahy hwythy dla hykmh
I should have been as though I had not been. I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
20
הלא קלילין יומי ופסקן ושוי עלי ואנוח זעיר:
zeyr wanwkh ely wshwy wpsqn ywmy qlylyn hla
Aren’t my days few? Stop! Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,
21
עד דלא איזל ולא אתוב לארעא חשוכא וטולא דמותא:
dmwtha wTwla khshwka larea athwb wla ayzl dla ed
before I go where I will not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
