פתגמא דמליל יי על בבל ועל ארע כסדאי ביד ירמיה נביא:
nbya yrmyh byd ksday are wel bbl el yy dmlyl pthgma
The word that Yahweh spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.

חוו בעממיא ובסרו וזקופו אתא בסרו לא תמנעון אמרו אתכבישת בבל בהיתו דפלחין לבל אתברו דפלחין למרודך בהיתו צלמנהא אתברא טעותהא:
Tewthha athbra tslmnha bhythw lmrwdk dplkhyn athbrw lbl dplkhyn bhythw bbl athkbyshth amrw thmnewn la bsrw atha wzqwpw wbsrw bemmya khww
“Declare among the nations and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and don’t conceal; say, ‘Babylon has been taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodach is dismayed! Her images are disappointed. Her idols are dismayed.’

ארי סליק עלה עם מארעא צפונא הוא ישוי ית ארעה לצדו ולא יהי יתיב בה מאנשא עד בעירא אטלטלו גלו:
glw aTlTlw beyra ed mansha bh ythyb yhy wla ltsdw areh yth yshwy hwa tspwna marea em elh slyq ary
For a nation comes up out of the north against her, which will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. They have fled. They are gone, both man and animal.

ביומיא האינון ובעדנא ההיא אמר יי ויתחברון בני ישראל אינון ובני יהודה כחדא במגליהון כד הוו בכן גלו ובמותביהון מארע גלותהון פולחנא דיי אלההון יתבעון:
ythbewn alhhwn dyy pwlkhna glwthhwn mare wbmwthbyhwn glw bkn hww kd bmglyhwn kkhda yhwdh wbny aynwn yshral bny wythkhbrwn yy amr hhya wbedna haynwn bywmya
“In those days, and in that time,” says Yahweh, “the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah together; they will go on their way weeping, and will seek Yahweh their God.

לציון ישאלון למיזל אורחא מכבשא קדמיהון ייתון ויתוספון על עמיה דיי ויגזר להון קים עלם דלא יפסוק:
ypswq dla elm qym lhwn wygzr dyy emyh el wythwspwn yythwn qdmyhwn mkbsha awrkha lmyzl yshalwn ltsywn
They will inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying, ‘Come, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.’

עאן מבדרא הוו עמי מלכיא טלטלונון שלטוניא בזונון מטור לרמא גלו אתנשיאו מבית רוחצניהון:
rwkhtsnyhwn mbyth athnshyaw glw lrma mTwr bzwnwn shlTwnya TlTlwnwn mlkya emy hww mbdra ean
My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have caused them to go astray. They have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill. They have forgotten their resting place.

כל דאשכחונון בזונון וסנאיהון אמרין לית עלנא חובא חלף דחבו קדם יי אתרחיקו ממדור קודשיה וסבור אבהתהון יי:
yy abhthhwn wsbwr qwdshyh mmdwr athrkhyqw yy qdm dkhbw khlp khwba elna lyth amryn wsnayhwn bzwnwn dashkkhwnwn kl
All who found them have devoured them. Their adversaries said, ‘We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Yahweh, the habitation of righteousness, even Yahweh, the hope of their fathers.’

גלו מגו בבל ומארע כסדאי פוקו והוו כרברבין בריש עמא:
ema brysh krbrbyn whww pwqw ksday wmare bbl mgw glw
“Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Go out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the male goats before the flocks.

ארי הא אנא מיתי ומסיק על בבל משרית עממין סגיאין מארעא צפונא ויסדרון עלה קרב מתמן תתאחד גררוהי כגבר מתכיל לא תיבין ריקן:
ryqn thybyn la mthkyl kgbr grrwhy ththakhd mthmn qrb elh wysdrwn tspwna marea sgyayn emmyn mshryth bbl el wmsyq mythy ana ha ary
For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country; and they will set themselves in array against her. She will be taken from there. Their arrows will be as of an expert mighty man. None of them will return in vain.

ותהי ארע כסדאי לבזא כל בזזהא יסבעון אמר יי:
yy amr ysbewn bzzha kl lbza ksday are wthhy
Chaldea will be a prey. All who prey on her will be satisfied,” says Yahweh.

ארי תחדון וארי תבועון בזזי אחסנתי ארי תרוצון כעגלי רבקא ותטולון כגבריא:
kgbrya wthTwlwn rbqa kegly thrwtswn ary akhsnthy bzzy thbwewn wary thkhdwn ary
“Because you are glad, because you rejoice, O you who plunder my heritage, because you are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain, and neigh as strong horses,

בהיתת כנישתכון לחדא אתברת מדינתכון הא סופהון דעממיא מדבר צדי וחרוב:
wkhrwb tsdy mdbr demmya swphwn ha mdynthkwn athbrth lkhda knyshthkwn bhythth
your mother will be utterly disappointed. She who bore you will be confounded. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

על דארגיזת בבל קדם יי לא תתיתב ותהי לצדו כלה כל דיעבר על בבל יכלי ויגיד על כל מחתהא:
mkhthha kl el wygyd ykly bbl el dyebr kl klh ltsdw wthhy ththythb la yy qdm bbl dargyzth el
Because of Yahweh’s wrath she won’t be inhabited, but she will be wholly desolate. Everyone who goes by Babylon will be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

סדרו על בבל סחור סחור כל מחתי קשתא שדו בה לא תחוסון על גרריא ארי קדם יי חבת:
khbth yy qdm ary grrya el thkhwswn la bh shdw qshtha mkhthy kl skhwr skhwr bbl el sdrw
Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her. Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against Yahweh.

יביבו עלה סחור סחור אתמסרת בידיהון נפלא אשיתהא אתפגרא שורהא ארי פורענות עמא דיי היא אתפרעו מנה כמה דעבדתא עבידו לה:
lh ebydw debdtha kmh mnh athprew hya dyy ema pwrenwth ary shwrha athpgra ashythha npla bydyhwn athmsrth skhwr skhwr elh ybybw
Shout against her all around. She has submitted herself. Her bulwarks have fallen. Her walls have been thrown down, for it is the vengeance of Yahweh. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, do to her.

שיצו מלכא מבבל ואחדו חרבא בעדן קטול מן קדם חרב סנאה דהיא כחמר מרויא גבר לעמיה יתפנון וגבר לארעיה יערקון:
yerqwn lareyh wgbr ythpnwn lemyh gbr mrwya kkhmr dhya snah khrb qdm mn qTwl bedn khrba wakhdw mbbl mlka shytsw
Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword, they will each return to their own people, and they will each flee to their own land.

עם מבדרא ישראל מלכיא טלטלינון קדמאה שליט בהון מלכא דאתור ודין בתראה אספינון נבוכדראצר מלכא דבבל:
dbbl mlka nbwkdratsr aspynwn bthrah wdyn dathwr mlka bhwn shlyT qdmah TlTlynwn mlkya yshral mbdra em
“Israel is a hunted sheep. The lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.”

בכן כדנן אמר יי צבאות אלהא דישראל הא אנא מסער על מלכא דבבל ועל ארעיה כמא דאסערית על מלכא דאתור:
dathwr mlka el daseryth kma areyh wel dbbl mlka el mser ana ha dyshral alha tsbawth yy amr kdnn bkn
Therefore Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

ואתיב ית ישראל לאתריהון ויתפרנסון בארעא כרמלא מתנן ובטור בית אפרים וגלעד ומקדשא תשבע נפשהון:
npshhwn thshbe wmqdsha wgled aprym byth wbTwr mthnn krmla barea wythprnswn lathryhwn yshral yth wathyb
I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he will feed on Carmel and Bashan. His soul will be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.

ביומיא האינון ובעדנא ההיא אמר יי יתבעון ית חובי ישראל וליתינון וחטאי בית יהודה ולא ישתכחון ארי אשבוק לשארא דאשאר:
dashar lshara ashbwq ary yshthkkhwn wla yhwdh byth wkhTay wlythynwn yshral khwby yth ythbewn yy amr hhya wbedna haynwn bywmya
In those days, and in that time,” says Yahweh, “the iniquity of Israel will be sought for, and there will be none, also the sins of Judah, and they won’t be found; for I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant.

על ארעא דעמא סרבן סקו עלה ועל יתבי פקוד דקטלין בחרבא ייתון לגמרא שאריתהון אמר יי ועביד ככל דפקידתך:
dpqydthk kkl webyd yy amr sharythhwn lgmra yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn pqwd ythby wel elh sqw srbn dema area el
“Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod. Kill and utterly destroy after them,” says Yahweh, “and do according to all that I have commanded you.

קל קרבא בארעא ותברא רבא:
rba wthbra barea qrba ql
A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
23
איכדין אתקטיף ואתבר מלכא דהוה מזיח לכל ארעא איכדין הות לצדו בבל בעממיא:
bemmya bbl ltsdw hwth aykdyn area lkl mzykh dhwh mlka wathbr athqTyp aykdyn
How the hammer of the whole earth is cut apart and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

איתצידית ליך ואף אתאחדת בבל ואת לא ידעת אתבעיאו חובך אשתכחו ואף אתאחדת ארי בעמא יי אתגרית:
athgryth yy bema ary athakhdth wap ashthkkhw khwbk athbeyaw ydeth la wath bbl athakhdth wap lyk aythtsydyth
I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, Babylon, and you weren’t aware. You are found, and also caught, because you have fought against Yahweh.

גלא יי ית בית גנזיה ואפיק ית מני כס דלוט קדמוהי ארי עבידא היא קדם יי אלהים צבאות בארעא כסדאי:
ksday barea tsbawth alhym yy qdm hya ebyda ary qdmwhy dlwT ks mny yth wapyq gnzyh byth yth yy gla
Yahweh has opened his armory, and has brought out the weapons of his indignation; for the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, has a work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.

עולו לה מסטרא פתחו אבולהא גמירו נכסהא כמא דמגמרין ית ערימת עבורא כן גמרוהא לא יהי לה שארא:
shara lh yhy la gmrwha kn ebwra erymth yth dmgmryn kma nksha gmyrw abwlha pthkhw msTra lh ewlw
Come against her from the farthest border. Open her storehouses. Cast her up as heaps. Destroy her utterly. Let nothing of her be left.
27
שיציאי כל גברהא אתמסרא לקטלא וי עליהון ארי מטא יום תבירהון עדן סעורן בישתהון:
byshthhwn sewrn edn thbyrhwn ywm mTa ary elyhwn wy lqTla athmsra gbrha kl shytsyay
Kill all her bulls. Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.

קל דערקין ומשתיזבין מארעא דבבל לחואה בציון ית פורענותא דיי אלהנא פורענות היכליה:
hyklyh pwrenwth alhna dyy pwrenwtha yth btsywn lkhwah dbbl marea wmshthyzbyn derqyn ql
Listen to those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance of his temple.

בסרו על בבל סגיאין כל מחתי קשתא שרו עלה סחור סחור לא יהי לה שיזבא שלימו לה כאגרה ככל דעבדת עבידו לה ארי על עמא דיי בסרת אמרת מלין דלא כשרין קדם קדישא דישראל:
dyshral qdysha qdm kshryn dla mlyn amrth bsrth dyy ema el ary lh ebydw debdth kkl kagrh lh shlymw shyzba lh yhy la skhwr skhwr elh shrw qshtha mkhthy kl sgyayn bbl el bsrw
“Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Encamp against her all around. Let none of it escape. Pay her back according to her work. According to all that she has done, do to her; for she has been proud against Yahweh, against the Holy One of Israel.
30
בכן יתרמין עולימהא ברחובהא וכל אנשי עבדי קרבא יתברון בעדנא ההיא אמר יי:
yy amr hhya bedna ythbrwn qrba ebdy anshy wkl brkhwbha ewlymha ythrmyn bkn
Therefore her young men will fall in her streets. All her men of war will be brought to silence in that day,” says Yahweh.

הא אנא שלח רוגזי עלך מלכא רשיעא אמר יי אלהים צבאות ארי מטא יום תבירך עדן סעורן בישתיך:
byshthyk sewrn edn thbyrk ywm mTa ary tsbawth alhym yy amr rshyea mlka elk rwgzy shlkh ana ha
“Behold, I am against you, you proud one,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies; “for your day has come, the time that I will visit you.

ויתקיל מלכא רשיעיא ויפול ולית ליה מקים ואדליק אשתא בקרווהי ותשיצי כל סחרניהון:
skhrnyhwn kl wthshytsy bqrwwhy ashtha wadlyq mqym lyh wlyth wypwl rshyeya mlka wythqyl
The proud one will stumble and fall, and no one will raise him up. I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all who are around him.”
33
כדנן אמר יי צבאות אניסין בית ישראל ובית יהודה כחדא וכל שביהון אתקיפו בהון מסרבין לשלחותהון:
lshlkhwthhwn msrbyn bhwn athqypw shbyhwn wkl kkhda yhwdh wbyth yshral byth anysyn tsbawth yy amr kdnn
Yahweh of Armies says: “The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together. All who took them captive hold them fast. They refuse to let them go.

פריקהון תקיפא יי צבאות שמיה אתפרעא אתפרע ית עולבניהון למתבר רשיעי ארעהון ולאיתאה זיעא לכל יתבי בבל:
bbl ythby lkl zyea wlaythah arehwn rshyey lmthbr ewlbnyhwn yth athpre athprea shmyh tsbawth yy thqypa pryqhwn
Their Redeemer is strong. Yahweh of Armies is his name. He will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
35
דקטלין בחרבא ייתון על ארעא דכסדאי אמר יי ועל יתבי בבל ועל רברבהא ועל חכימהא:
khkymha wel rbrbha wel bbl ythby wel yy amr dksday area el yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn
“A sword is on the Chaldeans,” says Yahweh, “and on the inhabitants of Babylon, on her princes, and on her wise men.
36
דקטלין בחרבא ייתון על קסמהא וישתבשון דקטלין בחרבא ייתון על גברהא ויתברון:
wythbrwn gbrha el yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn wyshthbshwn qsmha el yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn
A sword is on the boasters, and they will become fools. A sword is on her mighty men, and they will be dismayed.
37
דקטלין בחרבא ייתון על סוסותהון ועל רתיכיהון ועל כל סומכותא די בגוה ויהון חלשין כנשיא דקטלין בחרבא ייתון על בית נגזהא ויתבזיזון:
wythbzyzwn ngzha byth el yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn knshya khlshyn wyhwn bgwh dy swmkwtha kl wel rthykyhwn wel swswthhwn el yythwn bkhrba dqTlyn
A sword is on their horses, on their chariots, and on all the mixed people who are in the middle of her; and they will become as women. A sword is on her treasures, and they will be robbed.
38
שרבא במוהא ויבשון ארי ארעא צלמניא היא ובטעותא משתבחין:
mshthbkhyn wbTewtha hya tslmnya area ary wybshwn bmwha shrba
A drought is on her waters, and they will be dried up; for it is a land of engraved images, and they are mad over idols.
39
בכן יערען תמון בחתולין וישרון בה בנת נעמין ולא תתב עוד לעלם ולא תשרי עד דר ודר:
wdr dr ed thshry wla lelm ewd ththb wla nemyn bnth bh wyshrwn bkhthwlyn thmwn yeren bkn
Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein. It will be inhabited no more forever, neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.
40
רחיק מימרי יתכון כמא דרחיק יי ית סדום וית עמורה וקריבהא אמר יי לא יתיב תמן אנש ולא יתותב בה בר אנש:
ansh br bh ythwthb wla ansh thmn ythyb la yy amr wqrybha emwrh wyth sdwm yth yy drkhyq kma ythkwn mymry rkhyq
As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities,” says Yahweh, “so no man will dwell there, neither will any son of man live therein.
41
הא עמא אתא מצפונא ועממין רברבין ומלכין סגיאין ייתון בגלי מסיפי ארעא:
area msypy bgly yythwn sgyayn wmlkyn rbrbyn wemmyn mtspwna atha ema ha
“Behold, a people comes from the north. A great nation and many kings will be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

קשתא ותריסין אחידן אכזראין אינון ולית להון רחמין קלהון כימא באתרגושתיה ועל סוסותא רכבין מסדרין אינון כגבר עביד קרבין עלך כנשתא דבבל:
dbbl knshtha elk qrbyn ebyd kgbr aynwn msdryn rkbyn swswtha wel bathrgwshthyh kyma qlhwn rkhmyn lhwn wlyth aynwn akzrayn akhydn wthrysyn qshtha
They take up bow and spear. They are cruel, and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea. They ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Babylon.
43
שמע מלכא דבבל ואתרשלא ידוהי עקא אחדתיה הא כחבלין לילדתא:
lyldtha kkhblyn ha akhdthyh eqa ydwhy wathrshla dbbl mlka shme
The king of Babylon has heard the news of them, and his hands become feeble. Anguish has taken hold of him, pains as of a woman in labor.

הא מלך במשריתיה יסק עליהון כאריא דסליק מרום ירדנא והוי לדיר רעין ארי בזמן דאיתינון עלה ושלטונין אמני עלה ארי מן כותי ומן דיערעינני ולית מלך דאית ליה תקוף קדמי:
qdmy thqwp lyh dayth mlk wlyth dyereynny wmn kwthy mn ary elh amny wshlTwnyn elh daythynwn bzmn ary reyn ldyr whwy yrdna mrwm dslyq karya elyhwn ysq bmshrythyh mlk ha
Behold, the enemy will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will suddenly make them run away from it. Whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it, for who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who can stand before me?”

בכן שמעו מלכא דיי די מלך על בבל ומחשבתיה דחשיב על יתבי ארעא כסדאי אם לא יגררון ויקטלון תקיפי עמא אם לא יצדון עליהון מדוריהון:
mdwryhwn elyhwn ytsdwn la am ema thqypy wyqTlwn ygrrwn la am ksday area ythby el dkhshyb wmkhshbthyh bbl el mlk dy dyy mlka shmew bkn
Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they will drag them away, even the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them.
