ושמע שפטיה בר מתן וגדליהו בר פשחור ויוכל בר שלמיהו ופשחור בר מלכיה ית פתגמיה דירמיה ממליל עם כל עמא למימר:
lmymr ema kl em mmlyl dyrmyh pthgmyh yth mlkyh br wpshkhwr shlmyhw br wywkl pshkhwr br wgdlyhw mthn br shpTyh wshme
Shephatiah the son of Mattan, Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,

כדנן אמר יי דיתיב בקרתא הדא יתקטיל בחרבא בכפנא ובמותא ודיפוק וישתמע לכסדאי ויחי ותהי ליה נפשיה לשיזבא ויתקים:
wythqym lshyzba npshyh lyh wthhy wykhy lksday wyshthme wdypwq wbmwtha bkpna bkhrba ythqTyl hda bqrtha dythyb yy amr kdnn
“Yahweh says, ‘He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but he who goes out to the Chaldeans will live. He will escape with his life and he will live.’

כדנן אמר יי אתמסרא תתמסר קרתא הדא ביד משרית מלכא דבבל ויכבשינה:
wykbshynh dbbl mlka mshryth byd hda qrtha ththmsr athmsra yy amr kdnn
Yahweh says, ‘This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.’”

ואמרו רברביא למלכא יתקטיל כען גברא הדין ארי על כן הוא מרשל ית ידי גברי עבדי קרבא דאשתארו בקרתא הדא וית ידי כל עמא למללא עמהון כפתגמיא האלין ארי גברא הדין ליתוהי תבע לשלמא לעמא הדין אלהן לבישו:
lbyshw alhn hdyn lema lshlma thbe lythwhy hdyn gbra ary halyn kpthgmya emhwn lmlla ema kl ydy wyth hda bqrtha dashtharw qrba ebdy gbry ydy yth mrshl hwa kn el ary hdyn gbra ken ythqTyl lmlka rbrbya wamrw
Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”

ואמר מלכא צדקיה הא הוא מסיר בידכון ארי לית מלכא יכיל לאתבא יתכון פתגם:
pthgm ythkwn lathba ykyl mlka lyth ary bydkwn msyr hwa ha tsdqyh mlka wamr
Zedekiah the king said, “Behold, he is in your hand; for the king can’t do anything to oppose you.”

ודברו ית ירמיה ורמו יתיה לגובא דמלכיה בר מלכא דבדרת בית אסיריא ושרביבו ית ירמיה באטוניא ובגובא לית מיא אלהן טינא וטבע ירמיה בטינא:
bTyna yrmyh wTbe Tyna alhn mya lyth wbgwba baTwnya yrmyh yth wshrbybw asyrya byth dbdrth mlka br dmlkyh lgwba ythyh wrmw yrmyh yth wdbrw
Then they took Jeremiah and threw him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard. They let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

ושמע עבדא דמלכא צדקיה גבר רב והוא בבית מלכא ארי יהבו ית ירמיה לגובא ומלכא יתיב בתרע שבטא בנימין:
bnymyn shbTa bthre ythyb wmlka lgwba yrmyh yth yhbw ary mlka bbyth whwa rb gbr tsdqyh dmlka ebda wshme
Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),

ונפק עבדא דמלכא מבית מלכא ומליל עם מלכא למימר:
lmymr mlka em wmlyl mlka mbyth dmlka ebda wnpq
Ebedmelech went out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,

רבוני מלכא אבאישו גבריא האלין ית כל דעבדו לירמיה נביא ית דרמוהי לגובא כבר מית באתריה מן קדם כפנא ארי לית לחמא עוד בקרתא:
bqrtha ewd lkhma lyth ary kpna qdm mn bathryh myth kbr lgwba drmwhy yth nbya lyrmyh debdw kl yth halyn gbrya abayshw mlka rbwny
“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”

ופקיד מלכא ית עבדא דמלכא צדקיה למימר דבר עמך מכא תלתין גברין ותסיק ית ירמיה נביא מן גובא עד לא ימות:
ymwth la ed gwba mn nbya yrmyh yth wthsyq gbryn thlthyn mka emk dbr lmymr tsdqyh dmlka ebda yth mlka wpqyd
Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.”

ודבר עבדא דמלכא ית גבריא עמיה ועל לבית מלכא לתחות אוצרא ונסיב מתמן בלאי טפסן ובלאי שחקן ושרבבינון לות ירמיה לגובא באטוניא:
baTwnya lgwba yrmyh lwth wshrbbynwn shkhqn wblay Tpsn blay mthmn wnsyb awtsra lthkhwth mlka lbyth wel emyh gbrya yth dmlka ebda wdbr
So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

ואמר עבדא דמלכא צדקיה לירמיה שוי כען בלאי טפסן ושחקן תחות ידך מלרע לאטוניא ועבד ירמיה כן:
kn yrmyh webd laTwnya mlre ydk thkhwth wshkhqn Tpsn blay ken shwy lyrmyh tsdqyh dmlka ebda wamr
Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Now put these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords.” Jeremiah did so.

ונגדו ית ירמיה באטונא ואסיקו יתיה מן גובא ויתיב ירמיה בדרת בית אסיריא:
asyrya byth bdrth yrmyh wythyb gwba mn ythyh wasyqw baTwna yrmyh yth wngdw
So they lifted Jeremiah up with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

ושלח מלכא צדקיה ודבר ית ירמיה נביא לותיה למעלנא תליתאה די בבית מקדשא דיי ואמר מלכא לירמיה שאל אנא יתך פתגמא לא תכסי מני פתגמא:
pthgma mny thksy la pthgma ythk ana shal lyrmyh mlka wamr dyy mqdsha bbyth dy thlythah lmelna lwthyh nbya yrmyh yth wdbr tsdqyh mlka wshlkh
Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to himself into the third entry that is in Yahweh’s house. Then the king said to Jeremiah, “I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.”

ואמר ירמיה לצדקיה ארי אחוי לך הלא מקטל תקטלינני וארי אמלכינך לא תקביל מני:
mny thqbyl la amlkynk wary thqTlynny mqTl hla lk akhwy ary ltsdqyh yrmyh wamr
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? If I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.”

וקים מלכא צדקיה לירמיה בסתרא למימר קים הוא יי ית דקים לנא ית נפשתא האלין אם אקטלינך ואם אמסרינך ביד גבריא האלין דבען למקטלך:
lmqTlk dben halyn gbrya byd amsrynk wam aqTlynk am halyn npshtha yth lna dqym yth yy hwa qym lmymr bsthra lyrmyh tsdqyh mlka wqym
So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, “As Yahweh lives, who made our souls, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.”

ואמר ירמיה לצדקיה כדנן אמר יי צבאות אלהא דישראל אם מפק תפוק לות רברבי מלכא דבבל ותתקים נפשך וקרתא הדא לא תתוקד בנורא ותחי את ואנש ביתך:
bythk wansh ath wthkhy bnwra ththwqd la hda wqrtha npshk wththqym dbbl mlka rbrby lwth thpwq mpq am dyshral alha tsbawth yy amr kdnn ltsdqyh yrmyh wamr
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burned with fire. You will live, along with your house.

ואם לא תפוק לות רברבי מלכא דבבל ותתמסר קרתא הדא בידא דכסדאי ויוקדינה בנורא ואת לא תשתיזיב מידיהון:
mydyhwn thshthyzyb la wath bnwra wywqdynh dksday byda hda qrtha wththmsr dbbl mlka rbrby lwth thpwq la wam
But if you will not go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you won’t escape out of their hand.’”

ואמר מלכא צדקיה לירמיה אנא יציף מן יהודאי דאשתמעו לכסדאי דלמא ימסרון יתי בידיהון ויתלעבון בי:
by wythlebwn bydyhwn ythy ymsrwn dlma lksday dashthmew yhwday mn ytsyp ana lyrmyh tsdqyh mlka wamr
Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have defected to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.”
20
ואמר ירמיה לא ימסרון קביל כען למימרא דיי לדאנא ממליל עמך וייטב לך ותתקים נפשך:
npshk wththqym lk wyyTb emk mmlyl ldana dyy lmymra ken qbyl ymsrwn la yrmyh wamr
But Jeremiah said, “They won’t deliver you. Obey, I beg you, Yahweh’s voice, in that which I speak to you; so it will be well with you, and your soul will live.
21
ואם לית את צבי למפק דין פתגמא דאחזיני יי:
yy dakhzyny pthgma dyn lmpq tsby ath lyth wam
But if you refuse to go out, this is the word that Yahweh has shown me:
22
הא כל נשיא דאשתארא בבית מלך שבטא דבית יהודה מתפקן לות רברבי מלכא דבבל ואינון אמרין אטעיוך ויכילו לך אנש שלמך אשתקעא בבהתא רגלך אסתחרא לאחרא:
lakhra asthkhra rglk bbhtha ashthqea shlmk ansh lk wykylw aTeywk amryn waynwn dbbl mlka rbrby lwth mthpqn yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk bbyth dashthara nshya kl ha
‘Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women will say, “Your familiar friends have turned on you, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away from you.”
23
וית כל נשך וית בנך מתפקין לות כסדאי ואת לא תשתיזיב מידהון ארי ביד מלכא דבבל תתמסר וית קרתא הדא תתוקד בנורא:
bnwra ththwqd hda qrtha wyth ththmsr dbbl mlka byd ary mydhwn thshthyzyb la wath ksday lwth mthpqyn bnk wyth nshk kl wyth
They will bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans. You won’t escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon. You will cause this city to be burned with fire.’”
24
ואמר צדקיה לירמיה אנש לא ידע בפתגמיא האלין ולא תמות:
thmwth wla halyn bpthgmya yde la ansh lyrmyh tsdqyh wamr
Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no man know of these words, and you won’t die.
25
וארי ישמעון רברביא ארי מללית עמך ויתון לותך ויימרון לך חוי כען לנא מה מללית עם מלכא לא תכסי מננא ולא נקטלינך ומה מליל עמך מלכא:
mlka emk mlyl wmh nqTlynk wla mnna thksy la mlka em mllyth mh lna ken khwy lk wyymrwn lwthk wythwn emk mllyth ary rbrbya yshmewn wary
But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, ‘Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don’t hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also tell us what the king said to you;’
26
ותימר להון בעו אנא בעי קדם מלכא בדיל דלא לאתבותי בית יהונתן למימת תמן:
thmn lmymth yhwnthn byth lathbwthy dla bdyl mlka qdm bey ana bew lhwn wthymr
then you shall tell them, ‘I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.’”
27
ואתו כל רברביא לות ירמיה ושאילו יתיה וחוי להון ככל פתגמיא האלין דפקיד מלכא ושתיקו מניה ארי לא ישתמע פתגמא:
pthgma yshthme la ary mnyh wshthyqw mlka dpqyd halyn pthgmya kkl lhwn wkhwy ythyh wshaylw yrmyh lwth rbrbya kl wathw
Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they stopped speaking with him, for the matter was not perceived.
