והוה בשתא רביעיתא ליהויקים בר יאשיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה הוה פתגמא הדין עם ירמיה מן קדם יי למימר:
lmymr yy qdm mn yrmyh em hdyn pthgma hwh yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yashyh br lyhwyqym rbyeytha bshtha whwh
In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

סב לך מגלת ספרא ותכתוב עלה ית כל פתגמיא דמללית עמך על ישראל ועל יהודה ועל כל עממיא מיומא דמללית עמך מימי יאשיה ועד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma wed yashyh mymy emk dmllyth mywma emmya kl wel yhwdh wel yshral el emk dmllyth pthgmya kl yth elh wthkthwb spra mglth lk sb
“Take a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.

מאים ישמעון דבית יהודה ית כל בישתא דאנא מחשב למעבד להון בדיל דיתובון גבר מאורחיה בישתא ואשבוק לחוביהון ולחטאיהון:
wlkhTayhwn lkhwbyhwn washbwq byshtha mawrkhyh gbr dythwbwn bdyl lhwn lmebd mkhshb dana byshtha kl yth yhwdh dbyth yshmewn maym
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, that they may each return from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

וקרא ירמיה ית ברוך בר נריה וכתב ברוך מפום דירמיה ית כל פתגמיא דיי דמליל עמיה על מגלת ספרא:
spra mglth el emyh dmlyl dyy pthgmya kl yth dyrmyh mpwm brwk wkthb nryh br brwk yth yrmyh wqra
Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all Yahweh’s words, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

ופקיד ירמיה ית ברוך למימר אנא כלי לית אנא יכיל למיעל לבית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha lbyth lmyel ykyl ana lyth kly ana lmymr brwk yth yrmyh wpqyd
Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, “I am restricted. I can’t go into Yahweh’s house.

ותיתי את ותקרי במגלתא דכתבתא מפומי ית פתגמיא דיי קדם עמא בבית מקדשא דיי ביומא דצומא ואף קדם כל בית יהודה דאתן מקרויהון תקרינון:
thqrynwn mqrwyhwn dathn yhwdh byth kl qdm wap dtswma bywma dyy mqdsha bbyth ema qdm dyy pthgmya yth mpwmy dkthbtha bmgltha wthqry ath wthythy
Therefore you go, and read from the scroll which you have written from my mouth, Yahweh’s words, in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day. Also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

מאים תתקביל בעותהון קדם יי ויתובון גבר מאורחתיה בישתא ארי רב רוגזא וחימתא דגזר יי על עמא הדין:
hdyn ema el yy dgzr wkhymtha rwgza rb ary byshtha mawrkhthyh gbr wythwbwn yy qdm bewthhwn ththqbyl maym
It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will each return from his evil way; for Yahweh has pronounced great anger and wrath against this people.”

ועבד ברוך בר נריה ככל די פקדיה ירמיה נביא למקרי בספרא פתגמא דיי בית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha byth dyy pthgma bspra lmqry nbya yrmyh pqdyh dy kkl nryh br brwk webd
Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book Yahweh’s words in Yahweh’s house.

והוה בשתא חמשתא ליהויקים בר יאשיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה בירחא תשיעאה גזרו צומא קדם יי כל עמא בירושלם וכל עמא דאתן מקרויא דבית יהודה בירושלם:
byrwshlm yhwdh dbyth mqrwya dathn ema wkl byrwshlm ema kl yy qdm tswma gzrw thshyeah byrkha yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yashyh br lyhwyqym khmshtha bshtha whwh
Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.

וקרא ברוך בספרא ית פתגמי ירמיה נביא בית מקדשא דיי בלשכת גמריה בר שפן ספרא בדרתא עליתא במעלנא דתרע בית מקדשא דיי מדינחאה קדם כל עמא:
ema kl qdm mdynkhah dyy mqdsha byth dthre bmelna elytha bdrtha spra shpn br gmryh blshkth dyy mqdsha byth nbya yrmyh pthgmy yth bspra brwk wqra
Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.

ושמע מיכיהו בר גמריה בר שפן ית כל פתגמא דיי מעל ספרא:
spra mel dyy pthgma kl yth shpn br gmryh br mykyhw wshme
When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words,

ונחית לבית מלכא ללשכת ספרא והא תמן כל רברביא יתבין אלישמע ספרא ודליה בר שמעיה ואלנתן בר עכבור וגמריה בר שפן וצדקיה בר חנניה וכל רברביא:
rbrbya wkl khnnyh br wtsdqyh shpn br wgmryh ekbwr br walnthn shmeyh br wdlyh spra alyshme ythbyn rbrbya kl thmn wha spra llshkth mlka lbyth wnkhyth
he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room; and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

וחוי להון מיכיהו ית כל פתגמיא דשמע כד קרא ברוך בספרא קדם עמא:
ema qdm bspra brwk qra kd dshme pthgmya kl yth mykyhw lhwn wkhwy
Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

ושלחו כל רברביא לות ברוך ית יהודי בר נתניה בר שלמיה בר כושי למימר מגלתא דקריתא בה קדם עמא סבהי בידך ואתא ונסיב ברוך בר נריה ית מגלתא בידיה ואתא לותהון:
lwthhwn watha bydyh mgltha yth nryh br brwk wnsyb watha bydk sbhy ema qdm bh dqrytha mgltha lmymr kwshy br shlmyh br nthnyh br yhwdy yth brwk lwth rbrbya kl wshlkhw
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, “Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.

ואמרו ליה תוב כען וקרהא קדמנא וקרא ברוך קדמיהון:
qdmyhwn brwk wqra qdmna wqrha ken thwb lyh wamrw
They said to him, “Sit down now, and read it in our hearing.” So Baruch read it in their hearing.
16
והוה כמשמעהון ית כל פתגמיא תוהו גבר לחבריה ואמרו לברוך חואה נחוי למלכא ית כל פתגמיא האלין:
halyn pthgmya kl yth lmlka nkhwy khwah lbrwk wamrw lkhbryh gbr thwhw pthgmya kl yth kmshmehwn whwh
Now when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”

וית ברוך שאילו למימר חוי כען לנא איכדין כתבת ית כל פתגמיא האלין מפומיה:
mpwmyh halyn pthgmya kl yth kthbth aykdyn lna ken khwy lmymr shaylw brwk wyth
They asked Baruch, saying, “Tell us now, how did you write all these words at his mouth?”

ואמר להון ברוך מפומיה קרי לי ית כל פתגמיא האלין ואנא כתיב על ספרא בדיותא:
bdywtha spra el kthyb wana halyn pthgmya kl yth ly qry mpwmyh brwk lhwn wamr
Then Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.”

ואמרו רברביא לברוך אזיל אטמר את וירמיה ואנש לא ידע איכא אתון:
athwn ayka yde la wansh wyrmyh ath aTmr azyl lbrwk rbrbya wamrw
Then the princes said to Baruch, “You and Jeremiah go hide. Don’t let anyone know where you are.”

ואתו לות מלכא לדרתא וית מגילתא פקידו בלשכת אלישמע ספרא וחויאו קדם מלכא ית כל פתגמיא:
pthgmya kl yth mlka qdm wkhwyaw spra alyshme blshkth pqydw mgyltha wyth ldrtha mlka lwth wathw
They went in to the king into the court, but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe. Then they told all the words in the hearing of the king.

ושלח מלכא ית יהודי למיסב ית מגילתא ונסבה מלשכת אלישמע ספרא וקרהא יהודי קדם מלכא וקדם כל רברביא דקימין מעלוי מלכא:
mlka melwy dqymyn rbrbya kl wqdm mlka qdm yhwdy wqrha spra alyshme mlshkth wnsbh mgyltha yth lmysb yhwdy yth mlka wshlkh
So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king, and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.
22
ומלכא יתיב בית סתוא בירחא תשיעיתא וית נורא קדמוהי מדלקין:
mdlqyn qdmwhy nwra wyth thshyeytha byrkha sthwa byth ythyb wmlka
Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.

והוה כד קרי יהודי תלת פצין וארבע בזע באזמיל ספרא ורמי לנורא דלגומריה עד דשלימת כל מגלתא על נורא דעל גומרי:
gwmry del nwra el mgltha kl dshlymth ed dlgwmryh lnwra wrmy spra bazmyl bze warbe ptsyn thlth yhwdy qry kd whwh
When Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

ולא תוהו ולא בזעו ית לבושיהון מלכא וכל עבדוהי דשמעין ית כל פתגמיא האלין:
halyn pthgmya kl yth dshmeyn ebdwhy wkl mlka lbwshyhwn yth bzew wla thwhw wla
The king and his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, and didn’t tear their garments.

ואף אלנתן ודליה וגמריה בעו מן מלכא בדיל דלא לאוקדא ית מגלתא ולא קביל מנהון:
mnhwn qbyl wla mgltha yth lawqda dla bdyl mlka mn bew wgmryh wdlyh alnthn wap
Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not listen to them.

ופקיד מלכא ית ירחמאל בר מלכא וית שריה בר עזריאל וית שלמיה בר עבדיאל למדבר ית ברוך ספרא וית ירמיה נביא ואגין עליהון יי:
yy elyhwn wagyn nbya yrmyh wyth spra brwk yth lmdbr ebdyal br shlmyh wyth ezryal br shryh wyth mlka br yrkhmal yth mlka wpqyd
The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them.
27
והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עם ירמיה בתר דאוקיד מלכא ית מגלתא וית פתגמיא דכתב ברוך מפומא דירמיה למימר:
lmymr dyrmyh mpwma brwk dkthb pthgmya wyth mgltha yth mlka dawqyd bthr yrmyh em yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

תוב סב לך מגילתא אוחרי וכתוב עלה ית כל פתגמיא קדמאי דהוו על מגלתא קדמיתא דאוקיד יהויקים מלך שבטא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwyqym dawqyd qdmytha mgltha el dhww qdmay pthgmya kl yth elh wkthwb awkhry mgyltha lk sb thwb
“Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.

ועל יהויקים מלך שבטא דבית יהודה תימר כדנן אמר יי את אוקידתא ית מגלתא הדא למימר מא דין כתבתא עלה למימר מיתי ייתי מלכא דבבל ויחבל ית ארעא הדא ויבטל מנה אנשא ובעירא:
wbeyra ansha mnh wybTl hda area yth wykhbl dbbl mlka yythy mythy lmymr elh kthbtha dyn ma lmymr hda mgltha yth awqydtha ath yy amr kdnn thymr yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwyqym wel
Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Yahweh says: “You have burned this scroll, saying, ‘Why have you written therein, saying, “The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there man and animal”?’”
30
בכן כדנן אמר יי על יהויקים מלך שבטא דבית יהודה לא יהי ליה יתיב על כורסי דוד ונבלתיה תהא משגרא לשרבא ביממא ולגלידא בליליא:
blylya wlglyda bymma lshrba mshgra thha wnblthyh dwd kwrsy el ythyb lyh yhy la yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwyqym el yy amr kdnn bkn
Therefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: “He will have no one to sit on David’s throne. His dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31
ואסער עלוהי ועל בנוהי ועל עבדוהי ית חוביהון ואיתי עליהון ועל יתבי ירושלם ועל אנש יהודה ית כל בישתא דגזרית עליהון ולא קבילו:
qbylw wla elyhwn dgzryth byshtha kl yth yhwdh ansh wel yrwshlm ythby wel elyhwn waythy khwbyhwn yth ebdwhy wel bnwhy wel elwhy waser
I will punish him, his offspring, and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.”’”

וירמיה נסיב מגלה אוחרי ויהבה לברוך בר נריה ספרא דירמיה וכתב עלה מפומא ית כל פתגמי ספרא דאוקיד יהויקים מלך שבטא דבית יהודה בנורא ועוד אתוספו עליהון פתגמין סגיאין כותהון:
kwthhwn sgyayn pthgmyn elyhwn athwspw wewd bnwra yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwyqym dawqyd spra pthgmy kl yth mpwma elh wkthb dyrmyh spra nryh br lbrwk wyhbh awkhry mglh nsyb wyrmyh
Then Jeremiah took another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.
