והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמי למימר:
lmymr emy yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

אזיל ותתנבי קדם עמא די בירושלם למימר כדנן אמר יי דכירנא לכון טבות יומי קדם רחמת אבהתכון דהימנו במימרי ואזלו בתר תרין שליחי בתר משה ואהרן במדברא ארבעין שנין בלא זודין בארעא דלא מזדרעא:
mzdrea dla barea zwdyn bla shnyn arbeyn bmdbra wahrn mshh bthr shlykhy thryn bthr wazlw bmymry dhymnw abhthkwn rkhmth qdm ywmy Tbwth lkwn dkyrna yy amr kdnn lmymr byrwshlm dy ema qdm wththnby azyl
“Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “I remember for you the kindness of your youth, your love as a bride, how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

קודשיא אינון בית ישראל קדם יי ועל בזזיהון כדמעה ארמות עללא דמן דאכל מניה חיב למימת וכשירו חצד עומר ארמותא דעד לא מקרבין מניה כהניא בני אהרן קורבניא על מדבחא מן דאכיל מניה מתחיב אף כן כל בזויהון דבית ישראל יחובון בישתא תיתי עליהון אמר יי:
yy amr elyhwn thythy byshtha ykhwbwn yshral dbyth bzwyhwn kl kn ap mthkhyb mnyh dakyl mn mdbkha el qwrbnya ahrn bny khnya mnyh mqrbyn la ded armwtha ewmr khtsd wkshyrw lmymth khyb mnyh dakl dmn ella armwth kdmeh bzzyhwn wel yy qdm yshral byth aynwn qwdshya
Israel was holiness to Yahweh, the first fruits of his increase. All who devour him will be held guilty. Evil will come on them,”’ says Yahweh.”

קבילו פתגמא דיי בית יעקב וכל זרעית בית ישראל:
yshral byth zreyth wkl yeqb byth dyy pthgma qbylw
Hear Yahweh’s word, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel!

כדנן אמר יי מה אשכחו אבהתכון במימרי שקר ארי אתרחקו מדחלתי וטעו בתר טעותא והוו ללמא:
llma whww Tewtha bthr wTew mdkhlthy athrkhqw ary shqr bmymry abhthkwn ashkkhw mh yy amr kdnn
Yahweh says, “What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after worthless vanity, and have become worthless?

ולא אמרו נדחל מן קדם יי דאסיק יתנא מארעא דמצרים דדבר יתנא במדברא בארע מישר וחרוב בארע צדיא וטולימותא בארע דלא עדא בה אנש ולא אתותב אנשא תמן:
thmn ansha athwthb wla ansh bh eda dla bare wTwlymwtha tsdya bare wkhrwb myshr bare bmdbra ythna ddbr dmtsrym marea ythna dasyq yy qdm mn ndkhl amrw wla
They didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no man lived?’

ואעלית יתכון לארע דישראל דהות מנצבא ככרמלא למיכל אבה וטובה ועלתון וסאיבתון ית ארע בית שכינתי ואחסנתי שויתון לפולחן טעותא:
Tewtha lpwlkhn shwythwn wakhsnthy shkynthy byth are yth wsaybthwn welthwn wTwbh abh lmykl kkrmla mntsba dhwth dyshral lare ythkwn waelyth
I brought you into a plentiful land to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.

כהניא לא אמרו נדחל מן קדם יי ומלפי אוריתא לא אליפו למידע דחלתי ומלכיא מרדו במימרי ונביאי שקרא מתנבן בשום טעותא ובתר דלא יהנון להון אזלו:
azlw lhwn yhnwn dla wbthr Tewtha bshwm mthnbn shqra wnbyay bmymry mrdw wmlkya dkhlthy lmyde alypw la awrytha wmlpy yy qdm mn ndkhl amrw la khnya
The priests didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh?’ and those who handle the law didn’t know me. The rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and followed things that do not profit.

בכן אנא עתיד לאתפרעא מנכון אמר יי ומן בני בניכון דאם יעבדון כעובדיכון אנא עתיד לאתפרעה:
lathpreh ethyd ana kewbdykwn yebdwn dam bnykwn bny wmn yy amr mnkwn lathprea ethyd ana bkn
“Therefore I will yet contend with you,” says Yahweh, “and I will contend with your children’s children.

ארי עברו לנגות כתאי וחזו ולמדינת ערבאי שלחו ואסתכלו לחדא וחזו עממיא דגלן מכרך לכרך וממדינה למדינה נטלין ית טעותהון ומובלין להון עמהון ובאתר דאינון שרן פרסין ית משכניהון ומקיימין ית טעותהון וסגדין להון אידא היא אומה ולישן דעבדת כותכון בית ישראל:
yshral byth kwthkwn debdth wlyshn awmh hya ayda lhwn wsgdyn Tewthhwn yth wmqyymyn mshknyhwn yth prsyn shrn daynwn wbathr emhwn lhwn wmwblyn Tewthhwn yth nTlyn lmdynh wmmdynh lkrk mkrk dgln emmya wkhzw lkhda wasthklw shlkhw erbay wlmdynth wkhzw kthay lngwth ebrw ary
For pass over to the islands of Kittim, and see. Send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing.

הא עממיא לא שבקו פולחן טעותא ואינון טעון דלית בהון צרוך ועמי שבקו פולחני די בדיליה אנא מיתי עליהון יקרא ואזלו בתר דלא יהנון להון:
lhwn yhnwn dla bthr wazlw yqra elyhwn mythy ana bdylyh dy pwlkhny shbqw wemy tsrwk bhwn dlyth Tewn waynwn Tewtha pwlkhn shbqw la emmya ha
Has a nation changed its gods, which really are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doesn’t profit.

אתאבלו שמיא על כדין על ארעא דישראל דעתידא למחרב ועל בית מקדשא דעתיד לאצטדאה ועל דעובדין בישון עבדו עמי לחדא אמר יי:
yy amr lkhda emy ebdw byshwn dewbdyn wel latsTdah dethyd mqdsha byth wel lmkhrb dethyda dyshral area el kdyn el shmya athablw
“Be astonished, you heavens, at this and be horribly afraid. Be very desolate,” says Yahweh.

ארי תרתין בישין עבדו עמי פולחני שבקו די בדיליה אנא מיתי עליהון יקרא כמבוע דמיין דלא פסיק ושעו בתר טעותא דאינון להון כגובין תבירין דלא יכלין לקימא מיא:
mya lqyma yklyn dla thbyryn kgwbyn lhwn daynwn Tewtha bthr wshew psyq dla dmyyn kmbwe yqra elyhwn mythy ana bdylyh dy shbqw pwlkhny emy ebdw byshyn thrthyn ary
“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.

הכעבדא הוה ישראל אם יליד ביתא הוא מדין אתמסר לבזוזין:
lbzwzyn athmsr mdyn hwa bytha ylyd am yshral hwh hkebda
Is Israel a slave? Is he born into slavery? Why has he become a captive?

עלוהי יכלין מלכיא ירימון קלהון ושוו ארעיה לצדו קרווהי צדין מבלי יתיב:
ythyb mbly tsdyn qrwwhy ltsdw areyh wshww qlhwn yrymwn mlkya yklyn elwhy
The young lions have roared at him and raised their voices. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant.

אף בני מפיס ותחפנחס יקטלון גברך ויבזון נכסך:
nksk wybzwn gbrk yqTlwn wthkhpnkhs mpys bny ap
The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head.
17
הלא דא פורענותא תתעביד מניך על דשבקת ית פולחנא דיי אלהך דאחזיך אורחא תקנא ולא הליכתא בה:
bh hlyktha wla thqna awrkha dakhzyk alhk dyy pwlkhna yth dshbqth el mnyk ththebyd pwrenwtha da hla
“Haven’t you brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, when he led you by the way?

וכען מה לכון לאתחברא לפרעה מלכא דמצרים למרמי דכוריכון בנהרא ומה לכון למגזר קים עם אתוראה לאגלאה יתכון להלאה מעבר פרת:
prth mebr lhlah ythkwn laglah athwrah em qym lmgzr lkwn wmh bnhra dkwrykwn lmrmy dmtsrym mlka lpreh lathkhbra lkwn mh wken
Now what do you gain by going to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or why do you go on the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?

איתיתי עלך יסורין ולא מנעתא מבישתיך ועל דלא תבתא לאוריתא פורענותא תתעביד מניך ודעי וחזי ארי בישתא ומרידא איתי עלך ירושלם על דשבקת ית פולחנא דיי אלהך ולא שויתא דחלתי לקבל עינך אמר יי אלהים צבאות:
tsbawth alhym yy amr eynk lqbl dkhlthy shwytha wla alhk dyy pwlkhna yth dshbqth el yrwshlm elk aythy wmryda byshtha ary wkhzy wdey mnyk ththebyd pwrenwtha lawrytha thbtha dla wel mbyshthyk mnetha wla yswryn elk aythythy
“Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backsliding will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing, that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, and that my fear is not in you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.

ארי מעלמא תברית ניר עממיא מצוריכון פסקית חניקיכון ואמרתון לא נוסיף עוד למעבר על מימרך ארי על רמא מנטלא ותחות כל אילן עבוף את פלחא לטעותא:
lTewtha plkha ath ebwp ayln kl wthkhwth mnTla rma el ary mymrk el lmebr ewd nwsyp la wamrthwn khnyqykwn psqyth mtswrykwn emmya nyr thbryth melma ary
“For long ago I broke off your yoke, and burst your bonds. You said, ‘I will not serve;’ for on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute.

ואנא קימתכון קדמי כמנצב גפנא בחירא כולכון עבדי קשוט ואיכדין אשתנתון קדמי בעובדיכון מקלקליא סטיתון מבתר פולחני הויתון כגפן דלית ביה הנאה:
hnah byh dlyth kgpn hwythwn pwlkhny mbthr sTythwn mqlqlya bewbdykwn qdmy ashthnthwn waykdyn qshwT ebdy kwlkwn bkhyra gpna kmntsb qdmy qymthkwn wana
Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a pure and faithful seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?

ארי אם תדמין לאתנקאה מחוביך כמא דמנקן בנתרא ומחורין בבוריתא הא כרושם כתמא דלא דכי כן סגיאו חוביך קדמי אמר יי אלהים:
alhym yy amr qdmy khwbyk sgyaw kn dky dla kthma krwshm ha bbwrytha wmkhwryn bnthra dmnqn kma mkhwbyk lathnqah thdmyn am ary
For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

איכדין תימרין לא אסתאבית ובתר טעות עממיא לא הלכית זקופי עיניך על אורחתיך כד הוית יתבא בחילתא לקביל בית פעור דעי מא עבדת הוית דמיא לינקא קלילא דמקלקלא אורחתהא:
awrkhthha dmqlqla qlyla lynqa dmya hwyth ebdth ma dey pewr byth lqbyl bkhyltha ythba hwyth kd awrkhthyk el eynyk zqwpy hlkyth la emmya Tewth wbthr asthabyth la thymryn aykdyn
“How can you say, ‘I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals’? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways,

כערודא דמדורה במדברא ברעות נפשה שתיא רוחא כירודא כן כנשתא דישראל מרדת וטעת מן אוריתא ולא צביא למיתב נביא אמר לה כל בעהא דאוריתי לא ישתלהון בזמנא ישכחונה:
yshkkhwnh bzmna yshthlhwn la dawrythy beha kl lh amr nbya lmythb tsbya wla awrytha mn wTeth mrdth dyshral knshtha kn kyrwda rwkha shthya npshh brewth bmdbra dmdwrh kerwda
a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that sniffs the wind in her craving. When she is in heat, who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not weary themselves. In her month, they will find her.

מנעי רגליך מלאתחברא לעממיא ופומיך מלמפלח לטעות פלחי כוכביא ואמרת תבית מבתר פולחנך לא ארי רחימית לאתחברא לעממיא ובתר פולחן טעותהון אהך:
ahk Tewthhwn pwlkhn wbthr lemmya lathkhbra rkhymyth ary la pwlkhnk mbthr thbyth wamrth kwkbya plkhy lTewth mlmplkh wpwmyk lemmya mlathkhbra rglyk mney
“Keep your feet from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, ‘It is in vain. No, for I have loved strangers, and I will go after them.’

כבהתת גבר דמתחשיב מהימן ומשתכח גניב כן בהיתו בית ישראל אינון מלכיהון רברבהון וכהניהון ונביהון דשקרא:
dshqra wnbyhwn wkhnyhwn rbrbhwn mlkyhwn aynwn yshral byth bhythw kn gnyb wmshthkkh mhymn dmthkhshyb gbr kbhthth
As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed— they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,

אמרין לצלם אעא אבונא את ולמה דמתעביד מן אבנא אמרין ליה את בריתנא ארי אחזרו בפולחני קדל ולא שויאו דחלתי לקביל אפיהון וכעידן דבישתא אתיא עליהון כפרין בטעותהון ומודן קדמי ואמרין רחים עלנא ופרוקנא:
wprwqna elna rkhym wamryn qdmy wmwdn bTewthhwn kpryn elyhwn athya dbyshtha wkeydn apyhwn lqbyl dkhlthy shwyaw wla qdl bpwlkhny akhzrw ary brythna ath lyh amryn abna mn dmthebyd wlmh ath abwna aea ltslm amryn
who tell wood, ‘You are my father,’ and a stone, ‘You have given birth to me,’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face, but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us!’

ואן דחלתכון דעבדתון לכון יקומון אם יכלן למפרקכון בעדן בישתכון ארי מנין קרויכון הואה דחלתכון דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth dkhlthkwn hwah qrwykwn mnyn ary byshthkwn bedn lmprqkwn ykln am yqwmwn lkwn debdthwn dkhlthkwn wan
“But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble, for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.

למא אתון מדמן למידן לקבל פתגמי כולכון מרדתון במימרי אמר יי:
yy amr bmymry mrdthwn kwlkwn pthgmy lqbl lmydn mdmn athwn lma
“Why will you contend with me? You all have transgressed against me,” says Yahweh.
30
למגן אלקיתי ית בניכון אולפן לא קבילו קטלת חרבכון נבייכון כאריא דמחבל:
dmkhbl karya nbyykwn khrbkwn qTlth qbylw la awlpn bnykwn yth alqythy lmgn
“I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

עם דרא אתון קבילו פתגמא דיי הא כמדבר צדי דלית ביה הנאה והוה מימרי לישראל אם כארע חורבא מה דין אמרו עמי אטלטילנא לא נתוב עוד לפולחנך:
lpwlkhnk ewd nthwb la aTlTylna emy amrw dyn mh khwrba kare am lyshral mymry whwh hnah byh dlyth tsdy kmdbr ha dyy pthgma qbylw athwn dra em
Generation, consider Yahweh’s word. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, ‘We have broken loose. We will come to you no more’?
32
האפשר דתתנשי בתולתא תקונה כלתא קישוטהא ועמי שבקו פולחני יומין דלא מנין:
mnyn dla ywmyn pwlkhny shbqw wemy qyshwTha kltha thqwnh bthwltha dththnshy hapshr
“Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number.
33
מה את משתפרא באורחתיך למעבד רחמי לאתחברא בעממיא בכן אף ית בישן אליפת מן אורחתיך:
awrkhthyk mn alypth byshn yth ap bkn bemmya lathkhbra rkhmy lmebd bawrkhthyk mshthpra ath mh
How well you prepare your way to seek love! Therefore you have even taught the wicked women your ways.
34
אף בסתרא אשתכחת דאשדת דם זכאי דם נפשת דמסכנין זכאין לא כמא דמשכחין במחתרתא אלהין על כל אלין עבדת:
ebdth alyn kl el alhyn bmkhthrtha dmshkkhyn kma la zkayn dmsknyn npshth dm zkay dm dashdth ashthkkhth bsthra ap
Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You didn’t find them breaking in, but it is because of all these things.
35
ואמרת ארי זכיתי ברם תב רוגזיה מני הא אנא עביד עמיך פורענות דין על דאמרת לא חטיתי:
khTythy la damrth el dyn pwrenwth emyk ebyd ana ha mny rwgzyh thb brm zkythy ary wamrth
“Yet you said, ‘I am innocent. Surely his anger has turned away from me.’ “Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’

מה את מסתכלא לחדא לקלקלא ית אורחתיך אף ממצרים תבהתין כמא דבהתת מאתוראה:
mathwrah dbhthth kma thbhthyn mmtsrym ap awrkhthyk yth lqlqla lkhda msthkla ath mh
Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.
37
אף מלות דין תפקין ובהתת חוביך על רישיך ארי רחיק יי רוחצניך ולא ולא תצלחין להון:
lhwn thtslkhyn wla wla rwkhtsnyk yy rkhyq ary ryshyk el khwbyk wbhthth thpqyn dyn mlwth ap
You will also leave that place with your hands on your head; for Yahweh has rejected those in whom you trust, and you won’t prosper with them.
