פתגם נבואה דהוה עם ירמיה מן קדם יי למימר:
lmymr yy qdm mn yrmyh em dhwh nbwah pthgm
The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

קום ותיחות לבית פחדא ותמן אשמעינך ית פתגמי:
pthgmy yth ashmeynk wthmn pkhda lbyth wthykhwth qwm
“Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.”

ונחתית לבית פחרא והא הוא עביד עבידתא על סדנא:
sdna el ebydtha ebyd hwa wha pkhra lbyth wnkhthyth
Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making something on the wheels.

ואתחבל מנא דהוה עביד דטינא ביד פחרא ותב ועבדי מן אוחרן כמא דכשר בעיני פחרא למעבד:
lmebd pkhra beyny dkshr kma awkhrn mn webdy wthb pkhra byd dTyna ebyd dhwh mna wathkhbl
When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמי למימר:
lmymr emy yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

הכפחרא הדין הלא יוכלא קדמי למעבד לכון בית ישראל אמר יי הא כמא דטינא ביד פחרא כן אתון חשיבין קדמי בית ישראל:
yshral byth qdmy khshybyn athwn kn pkhra byd dTyna kma ha yy amr yshral byth lkwn lmebd qdmy ywkla hla hdyn hkpkhra
“House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter?” says Yahweh. “Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.

זמן אמליל על עמא ועל מלכותא למעקר ולתרעא ולאבדא:
wlabda wlthrea lmeqr mlkwtha wel ema el amlyl zmn
At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it,

ויתוב עמא ההוא מבישתיה דגזרית עלוהי ואיתוב מן בישתא דחשבית למעבד ליה:
lyh lmebd dkhshbyth byshtha mn waythwb elwhy dgzryth mbyshthyh hhwa ema wythwb
if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

וזמן אמליל על עמא ועל מלכותא למבני ולקימא:
wlqyma lmbny mlkwtha wel ema el amlyl wzmn
At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it,

ויעביד דביש קדמי בדיל דלא לקבלא למימרי ואיתוב מן טבתא דאמרית לאיטבא ליה:
lyh layTba damryth Tbtha mn waythwb lmymry lqbla dla bdyl qdmy dbysh wyebyd
if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

וכען אמר כען לאנש יהודה וליתבי ירושלם למימר כדנן אמר יי הא אנא ברי עליכון בישא ומחשב עליכון מחשבא תובו כען גבר מאורחיה בישתא ואתקינו אורחתכון ועובדיכון:
wewbdykwn awrkhthkwn wathqynw byshtha mawrkhyh gbr ken thwbw mkhshba elykwn wmkhshb bysha elykwn bry ana ha yy amr kdnn lmymr yrwshlm wlythby yhwdh lansh ken amr wken
“Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Yahweh says: “Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plan against you. Everyone return from his evil way now, and amend your ways and your doings.”’

ואמרו תבנא מבתר פולחנך ארי בתר עשתונתא נהך וגבר הרהור לביה בישא נעביד:
nebyd bysha lbyh hrhwr wgbr nhk eshthwntha bthr ary pwlkhnk mbthr thbna wamrw
But they say, ‘It is in vain; for we will walk after our own plans, and we will each follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.’”

בכן כדנן אמר יי שאילו כען בעממיא מן שמע כאלין שנוי עבדת לחדא כנשתא דישראל:
dyshral knshtha lkhda ebdth shnwy kalyn shme mn bemmya ken shaylw yy amr kdnn bkn
Therefore Yahweh says: “Ask now among the nations, ‘Who has heard such things?’ The virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.

הא כמה דלית אפשר דיפסוק מי תלג דנחית על חקלי לבנן כן לא יפסקון ממטר נחתין ומי מבוע נבעין:
nbeyn mbwe wmy nkhthyn mmTr ypsqwn la kn lbnn khqly el dnkhyth thlg my dypswq apshr dlyth kmh ha
Will the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Will the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?

ארי שבקו פולחני עמי לא להנאה אסיקו בוסמין ואטעיאונון באורחתהון בישתא משבילין תקנן דמן עלמא למיזל באורחן דלא תקנן בשבילין דלא מכבשין:
mkbshyn dla bshbylyn thqnn dla bawrkhn lmyzl elma dmn thqnn mshbylyn byshtha bawrkhthhwn waTeyawnwn bwsmyn asyqw lhnah la emy pwlkhny shbqw ary
For my people have forgotten me. They have burned incense to false gods. They have been made to stumble in their ways in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up,

לשואה ארעהון לצדו אשתממות עלם כל דיעבר עלה יכלי ויגיד ברישיה:
bryshyh wygyd ykly elh dyebr kl elm ashthmmwth ltsdw arehwn lshwah
to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and shake his head.

כבידור רוח קדומא כן אבדרינון קדם בעלי דבביהון קדל ולא אפיל אחזינון ביום תבריהון:
thbryhwn bywm akhzynwn apyl wla qdl dbbyhwn bely qdm abdrynwn kn qdwma rwkh kbydwr
I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy. I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

ואמרו אתו ונחשב על ירמיה מחשבן ארי לא תפסוק אוריתא מכהן ומלך מחכים ואולפן מספר אתו ונסהדיניה סהדון דשקר ולא נצית לכל פתגמוהי:
pthgmwhy lkl ntsyth wla dshqr shdwn wnshdynyh athw mspr wawlpn mkhkym wmlk mkhn awrytha thpswq la ary mkhshbn yrmyh el wnkhshb athw wamrw
Then they said, “Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”

גלי קדמך יי דיני ושמע קדמך עולבני:
ewlbny qdmk wshme dyny yy qdmk gly
Give heed to me, Yahweh, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me.
20
האפשר לשלמא חלף טבתא בישתא ארי כרו פחת למקטלי יעול דוכרן מקמי קדמך למללא עליהון פתגמין תקנין לאתבא ית חמתך מנהון:
mnhwn khmthk yth lathba thqnyn pthgmyn elyhwn lmlla qdmk mqmy dwkrn yewl lmqTly pkhth krw ary byshtha Tbtha khlp lshlma hapshr
Should evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

בכן הב ית בניהון לכפנא ותבבינון ידי קטולי חרבא ויהוין נשיהון תכלן וארמלן וגבריהון יהון קטילי מותא עולימיהון מטעני חרבא בקרבא:
bqrba khrba mTeny ewlymyhwn mwtha qTyly yhwn wgbryhwn warmln thkln nshyhwn wyhwyn khrba qTwly ydy wthbbynwn lkpna bnyhwn yth hb bkn
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widows. Let their men be killed and their young men struck by the sword in battle.

תשתמע צוחתא מבתיהון ארי תיתי עליהון משרין בתכיף ארי כרו פחת למקטלי וקולין צלו לפרסת רגלי:
rgly lprsth tslw wqwlyn lmqTly pkhth krw ary bthkyp mshryn elyhwn thythy ary mbthyhwn tswkhtha thshthme
Let a cry be heard from their houses when you bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hidden snares for my feet.

ואת יי ידיע וגלי קדמך ית כל אתמלוכיהון עלי למקטלי לא תכפר על חוביהון וחטאיהון מן קדמך לא יתמחון ויהון מתכלין דמן קדמך בעדן פורענות רוגזך אתפרע מנהון:
mnhwn athpre rwgzk pwrenwth bedn qdmk dmn mthklyn wyhwn ythmkhwn la qdmk mn wkhTayhwn khwbyhwn el thkpr la lmqTly ely athmlwkyhwn kl yth qdmk wgly ydye yy wath
Yet, Yahweh, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Don’t forgive their iniquity. Don’t blot out their sin from your sight, Let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.
