ܡܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ ܩܪܒܐ ܘܡܨܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܪܓܝܓܬܐ ܕܡܩܪܒܢ ܒܗܕܡܝܟܘܢ
bhdmykwn dmqrbn rgygth' mn hw' l' wmtswth' qrb' bkwn 'yth 'yk' mn
Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?

ܡܬܪܓܪܓܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܩܛܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܛܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܝܐ ܒܐܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܘܢܨܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܩܪܒܐ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܫܐܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'nthwn sh'lyn dl' mTl lkwn wlyth 'nthwn ebdyn wqrb' 'nthwn wntsyn b'ydykwn 'thy' wl' 'nthwn wTnyn 'nthwn wqTlyn lkwn wlyth 'nthwn mthrgrgyn
You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.

ܫܐܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܢܣܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܝܫܐܝܬ ܫܐܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܬܬܪܣܘܢ ܪܓܝܓܬܟܘܢ
rgygthkwn dththrswn 'yk 'nthwn sh'lyn dbysh'yth mTl 'nthwn nsbyn wl' 'nthwn sh'lyn
You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

ܓܝܪܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܪܚܡܬܗ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܨܒܐ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ
l'lh' hw' beldbb' hn' delm' rkhm' dnhw' dtsb' hkyl 'yn' d'lh' hy beldbbwth' hn' delm' drkhmthh 'nthwn ydeyn l' gyr'
You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

ܐܘ ܕܠܡܐ ܣܪܝܩܐܝܬ ܣܒܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܡܪ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܒܛܢܢܐ ܪܓܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܥܡܪܐ ܒܢ
bn demr' rwkh' rg' dbTnn' kthb' d'mr 'nthwn sbryn sryq'yth dlm' 'w
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?

ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܝܬܝܪܬܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܢ ܡܪܢ ܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܐܡܪ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܡܟܟ ܠܪܡܐ ܘܠܡܟܝܟܐ ܝܗܒ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ
Tybwth' yhb wlmkyk' lrm' mmkk d'lh' 'mr hd' mTl mrn ln yhb ythyrth' dyn Tybwth'
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

ܐܫܬܥܒܕܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܩܘܡܘ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܣܛܢܐ ܘܥܪܩ ܡܢܟܘܢ
mnkwn werq sTn' lwqbl wqwmw l'lh' hkyl 'shthebdw
Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

ܘܩܪܘܒܘ ܠܘܬ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܢܬܩܪܒ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܟܘ ܐܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܚܛܝܐ ܩܕܫܘ ܠܒܘܬܟܘܢ ܦܠܝܓܝ ܢܦܫܐ
npsh' plygy lbwthkwn qdshw khTy' 'ydykwn dkw lkwn wnthqrb 'lh' lwth wqrwbw
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

ܐܬܡܟܟܘ ܘܐܬܐܒܠܘ ܘܓܘܚܟܟܘܢ ܠܐܒܠܐ ܢܬܗܦܟ ܘܚܕܘܬܟܘܢ ܠܥܩܬܐ
leqth' wkhdwthkwn nthhpk l'bl' wgwkhkkwn w'th'blw 'thmkkw
Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

ܐܬܡܟܟܘ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܪܡܪܡܟܘܢ
wnrmrmkwn mry' qdm 'thmkkw
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܥܠ ܚܕܕܐ ܐܚܝ ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܡܡܠܠ ܥܠ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܐܘ ܕܐܢ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܡܡܠܠ ܥܠ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܕܐܢ ܠܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܐܢ ܠܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܥܒܘܕܗ ܕܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܝܢܗ
dynh 'l' dnmws' ebwdh hwyth l' 'nth d'n lnmws' w'n lnmws' wd'n nmws' el mmll l'khwhy d'n 'w 'khwhy el dmmll gyr hw 'khy khdd' el mmllyn thhwwn l'
Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

ܚܕ ܗܘ ܣܐܡ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ ܕܗܘ ܡܫܟܚ ܕܢܚܐ ܘܢܘܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܕܕܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܠܩܪܝܒܟ
lqrybk lh 'nth dd'n 'nth mn dyn 'nth wnwbd dnkh' mshkkh dhw wdyn' nmws' s'm hw khd
Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?

ܡܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܢܐܡܪ ܐܦ ܥܠ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܝܘܡܢܐ ܐܘ ܡܚܪ ܐܙܠܝܢܢ ܠܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܗܝ ܘܥܒܕܝܢܢ ܬܡܢ ܫܢܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܘܡܬܬܓܪܝܢܢ ܘܝܬܪܝܢܢ
wythrynn wmththgrynn khd' shnth' thmn webdynn dhy 'yd' lmdynth' 'zlynn mkhr 'w dywmn' d'mryn 'ylyn el 'p n'mr dyn mn'
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”

ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܡܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܚܪ ܡܢܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܚܝܝܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܠܗܓܐ ܕܩܠܝܠ ܡܬܚܙܐ ܘܛܠܩ ܘܡܘܦܐ
wmwp' wTlq mthkhz' dqlyl lhg' 'n 'l' khyyn gyr 'nwn mn' mkhr hw' mn' ydeyn wl'
Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

ܚܠܦ ܕܢܐܡܪܘܢ ܕܐܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܢܨܒܐ ܘܢܚܐ ܥܒܕܝܢܢ ܗܕܐ ܐܘ ܗܝ
hy 'w hd' ebdynn wnkh' ntsb' mry' d'n dn'mrwn khlp
For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”

ܡܫܬܒܗܪܝܢ ܒܚܬܝܪܘܬܗܘܢ ܟܠ ܫܘܒܗܪܐ ܕܐܝܟ ܗܢܐ ܒܝܫܐ ܗܘ
hw bysh' hn' d'yk shwbhr' kl bkhthyrwthhwn mshthbhryn
But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.

ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܝܕܥ ܛܒܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܚܛܗܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ
lh hw' khTh' lh ebd wl' Tbth' dyde w'yn'
To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
