ܠܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܒܟܘܢ ܐܚܝ ܐܠܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܕܕܝܢܐ ܝܬܝܪܐ ܚܝܒܝܢܢ
khybynn ythyr' ddyn' ydeyn hwythwn 'l' 'khy bkwn nhwwn mlpn' sgy'' l'
Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

ܣܓܝܐܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܫܬܪܥܝܢܢ ܟܠܢ ܟܠ ܕܒܡܠܬܐ ܠܐ ܫܪܥ ܗܢܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܓܒܪܐ ܓܡܝܪܐ ܕܡܫܟܚ ܢܫܥܒܕ ܐܦ ܟܠܗ ܦܓܪܗ
pgrh klh 'p nshebd dmshkkh gmyr' gbr' 'ythwhy hn' shre l' dbmlth' kl kln mshthreynn gyr sgy'th'
For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn’t stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

ܗܐ ܓܝܪ ܦܓܘܕܐ ܒܦܘܡܐ ܕܪܟܫܐ ܪܡܝܢܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܫܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܠܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܓܘܫܡܗܘܢ ܡܗܦܟܝܢܢ
mhpkynn gwshmhwn wklh ln dnshthebdwn 'yk rmynn drksh' bpwm' pgwd' gyr h'
Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.

ܐܦ ܐܠܦܐ ܥܫܝܢܬܐ ܟܕ ܕܒܝܪܢ ܠܗܝܢ ܪܘܚܐ ܩܫܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܩܝܣܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܡܬܢܬܦܢ ܠܐܬܪ ܕܚܐܪ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܕܗܘ ܕܡܕܒܪ
dmdbr dhw tsbynh dkh'r l'thr mthnthpn zewr' qys' mn qshyth' rwkh' lhyn dbyrn kd eshynth' 'lp' 'p
Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܫܢܐ ܗܕܡܐ ܗܘ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܡܫܬܥܠܐ ܐܦ ܢܘܪܐ ܙܥܘܪܬܐ ܥܒܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܘܩܕܐ
mwqd' sgy'' eb' zewrth' nwr' 'p wmshthel' zewr' hw hdm' lshn' 'p hkn'
So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!

ܘܠܫܢܐ ܢܘܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܥܠܡܐ ܕܚܛܝܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܥܒܐ ܗܘ ܘܗܘ ܠܫܢܐ ܟܕ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܗܕܡܝܢ ܡܟܬܡ ܠܗ ܠܟܠܗ ܦܓܪܢ ܘܡܘܩܕ ܝܘܒܠܐ ܕܫܪܒܬܢ ܕܪܗܛܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܓܝܓܠܐ ܘܝܩܕ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܒܢܘܪܐ
bnwr' hw 'p wyqd gygl' 'yk drhTyn dshrbthn ywbl' wmwqd pgrn lklh lh mkthm bhdmyn 'ythwhy kd lshn' whw hw eb' 'yk dkhTyth' welm' hw nwr' wlshn'
And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna.

ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܟܝܢܐ ܕܚܝܘܬܐ ܘܕܦܪܚܬܐ ܘܪܚܫܐ ܕܝܡܐ ܘܕܝܒܫܐ ܡܫܬܥܒܕܝܢ ܠܟܝܢܐ ܕܐܢܫܘܬܐ
d'nshwth' lkyn' mshthebdyn wdybsh' dym' wrkhsh' wdprkhth' dkhywth' kyn' gyr klhwn
For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;

ܠܫܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܐܫܟܚ ܕܢܟܒܫܝܘܗܝ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܬܟܣܐ ܡܠܐ ܗܘ ܣܡܐ ܕܡܘܬܐ
dmwth' sm' hw ml' mththks' dl' hd' byshth' dnkbshywhy 'shkkh l' 'nsh dyn lshn'
but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

ܒܗ ܡܒܪܟܝܢܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܒܐ ܘܒܗ ܠܝܛܝܢܢ ܠܒܢܝܢܫܐ ܕܒܕܡܘܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ
ebydyn d'lh' dbdmwth' lbnynsh' lyTynn wbh w'b' lmry' mbrkynn bh
With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God.

ܘܡܢܗ ܡܢ ܦܘܡܐ ܢܦܩܢ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܘܠܘܛܬܐ ܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܚܝ ܕܗܠܝܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܢܣܬܥܪܢ
nsthern hkn' dhlyn 'khy wl' l' wlwTth' bwrkth' npqn pwm' mn wmnh
Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܕܡܢ ܚܕ ܡܒܘܥܐ ܢܦܩܘܢ ܡܝܐ ܚܠܝܐ ܘܡܪܝܪܐ
wmryr' khly' my' npqwn mbwe' khd dmn mshkkh' dlm'
Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?

ܐܘ ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܬܬܐ ܐܚܝ ܕܙܝܬܐ ܬܥܒܕ ܐܘ ܓܦܬܐ ܬܐܢܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܡܝܐ ܡܠܝܚܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܕܢܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܚܠܝܐ
khly' dnthebdwn mshkkhyn mlykh' my' l' 'p hkn' th'n' gpth' 'w thebd dzyth' 'khy thth' mshkkh' dlm' 'w
Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

ܡܢܘ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܚܟܝܡ ܘܪܕܐ ܢܚܘܐ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܒܗܘܦܟܐ ܫܦܝܪܐ ܒܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܟܝܟܬܐ
mkykth' bkhkmth' shpyr' bhwpk' ebdwhy nkhw' wrd' dkhkym mnkwn mnw
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܚܣܡܐ ܡܪܝܪܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ ܐܘ ܚܪܝܢܐ ܒܠܒܝܟܘܢ ܠܐ ܬܬܚܬܪܘܢ ܥܠ ܩܘܫܬܐ ܘܬܕܓܠܘܢ
wthdglwn qwshth' el ththkhthrwn l' blbykwn khryn' 'w bkwn 'yth mryr' khsm' dyn 'n
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.

ܡܛܠ ܕܗܕܐ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܠܐ ܢܚܬܬ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܐܪܥܢܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܚܘܫܒܐ ܕܢܦܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܫܐܕܐ
sh'd' wmn dnpsh' khwshb' mn 'renyth' 'ythyh 'l' nkhthth l' lel mn khkmth' dhd' mTl
This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

ܐܝܟܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܝܬ ܚܣܡܐ ܘܚܪܝܢܐ ܬܡܢ ܐܦ ܕܠܘܚܝܐ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܒܝܫ
dbysh wklmdm dlwkhy' 'p thmn wkhryn' khsm' d'yth gyr 'yk'
For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

ܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܕܟܝܐ ܗܝ ܘܡܠܝܐ ܫܠܡܐ ܘܡܟܝܟܐ ܘܡܫܬܡܥܢܝܐ ܘܡܠܝܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܘܦܐܪܐ ܛܒܐ ܘܕܠܐ ܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܘܒܐܦܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܒܐ
nsb' l' wb'p' hy plgwth' wdl' Tb' wp'r' rkhm' wmly' wmshthmeny' wmkyk' shlm' wmly' hy dky' lel dmn dyn khkmth'
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
