ܠܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܒܟܘܢ ܐܚܝ ܐܠܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܕܕܝܢܐ ܝܬܝܪܐ ܚܝܒܝܢܢ
l' sgy'' mlpn' nhwwn bkwn 'khy 'l' hwythwn ydeyn ddyn' ythyr' khybynn
Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

ܣܓܝܐܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܫܬܪܥܝܢܢ ܟܠܢ ܟܠ ܕܒܡܠܬܐ ܠܐ ܫܪܥ ܗܢܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܓܒܪܐ ܓܡܝܪܐ ܕܡܫܟܚ ܢܫܥܒܕ ܐܦ ܟܠܗ ܦܓܪܗ
sgy'th' gyr mshthreynn kln kl dbmlth' l' shre hn' 'ythwhy gbr' gmyr' dmshkkh nshebd 'p klh pgrh
For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn’t stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

ܗܐ ܓܝܪ ܦܓܘܕܐ ܒܦܘܡܐ ܕܪܟܫܐ ܪܡܝܢܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܫܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܠܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܓܘܫܡܗܘܢ ܡܗܦܟܝܢܢ
h' gyr pgwd' bpwm' drksh' rmynn 'yk dnshthebdwn ln wklh gwshmhwn mhpkynn
Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.

ܐܦ ܐܠܦܐ ܥܫܝܢܬܐ ܟܕ ܕܒܝܪܢ ܠܗܝܢ ܪܘܚܐ ܩܫܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܩܝܣܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܡܬܢܬܦܢ ܠܐܬܪ ܕܚܐܪ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܕܗܘ ܕܡܕܒܪ
'p 'lp' eshynth' kd dbyrn lhyn rwkh' qshyth' mn qys' zewr' mthnthpn l'thr dkh'r tsbynh dhw dmdbr
Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܫܢܐ ܗܕܡܐ ܗܘ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܡܫܬܥܠܐ ܐܦ ܢܘܪܐ ܙܥܘܪܬܐ ܥܒܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܘܩܕܐ

So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!

ܘܠܫܢܐ ܢܘܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܥܠܡܐ ܕܚܛܝܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܥܒܐ ܗܘ ܘܗܘ ܠܫܢܐ ܟܕ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܗܕܡܝܢ ܡܟܬܡ ܠܗ ܠܟܠܗ ܦܓܪܢ ܘܡܘܩܕ ܝܘܒܠܐ ܕܫܪܒܬܢ ܕܪܗܛܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܓܝܓܠܐ ܘܝܩܕ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܒܢܘܪܐ
wlshn' nwr' hw welm' dkhTyth' 'yk eb' hw whw lshn' kd 'ythwhy bhdmyn mkthm lh lklh pgrn wmwqd ywbl' dshrbthn drhTyn 'yk gygl' wyqd 'p hw bnwr'
And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna.

ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܟܝܢܐ ܕܚܝܘܬܐ ܘܕܦܪܚܬܐ ܘܪܚܫܐ ܕܝܡܐ ܘܕܝܒܫܐ ܡܫܬܥܒܕܝܢ ܠܟܝܢܐ ܕܐܢܫܘܬܐ
klhwn gyr kyn' dkhywth' wdprkhth' wrkhsh' dym' wdybsh' mshthebdyn lkyn' d'nshwth'
For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;

ܠܫܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܐܫܟܚ ܕܢܟܒܫܝܘܗܝ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܬܟܣܐ ܡܠܐ ܗܘ ܣܡܐ ܕܡܘܬܐ
lshn' dyn 'nsh l' 'shkkh dnkbshywhy byshth' hd' dl' mththks' ml' hw sm' dmwth'
but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

ܒܗ ܡܒܪܟܝܢܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܒܐ ܘܒܗ ܠܝܛܝܢܢ ܠܒܢܝܢܫܐ ܕܒܕܡܘܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ
bh mbrkynn lmry' w'b' wbh lyTynn lbnynsh' dbdmwth' d'lh' ebydyn
With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God.

ܘܡܢܗ ܡܢ ܦܘܡܐ ܢܦܩܢ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܘܠܘܛܬܐ ܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܚܝ ܕܗܠܝܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܢܣܬܥܪܢ
wmnh mn pwm' npqn bwrkth' wlwTth' l' wl' 'khy dhlyn hkn' nsthern
Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܕܡܢ ܚܕ ܡܒܘܥܐ ܢܦܩܘܢ ܡܝܐ ܚܠܝܐ ܘܡܪܝܪܐ
dlm' mshkkh' dmn khd mbwe' npqwn my' khly' wmryr'
Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?

ܐܘ ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܬܬܐ ܐܚܝ ܕܙܝܬܐ ܬܥܒܕ ܐܘ ܓܦܬܐ ܬܐܢܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܡܝܐ ܡܠܝܚܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܕܢܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܚܠܝܐ
'w dlm' mshkkh' thth' 'khy dzyth' thebd 'w gpth' th'n' hkn' 'p l' my' mlykh' mshkkhyn dnthebdwn khly'
Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

ܡܢܘ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܚܟܝܡ ܘܪܕܐ ܢܚܘܐ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܒܗܘܦܟܐ ܫܦܝܪܐ ܒܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܟܝܟܬܐ
mnw mnkwn dkhkym wrd' nkhw' ebdwhy bhwpk' shpyr' bkhkmth' mkykth'
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܚܣܡܐ ܡܪܝܪܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ ܐܘ ܚܪܝܢܐ ܒܠܒܝܟܘܢ ܠܐ ܬܬܚܬܪܘܢ ܥܠ ܩܘܫܬܐ ܘܬܕܓܠܘܢ
'n dyn khsm' mryr' 'yth bkwn 'w khryn' blbykwn l' ththkhthrwn el qwshth' wthdglwn
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.

ܡܛܠ ܕܗܕܐ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܠܐ ܢܚܬܬ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܐܪܥܢܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܚܘܫܒܐ ܕܢܦܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܫܐܕܐ
mTl dhd' khkmth' mn lel l' nkhthth 'l' 'ythyh 'renyth' mn khwshb' dnpsh' wmn sh'd'
This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

ܐܝܟܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܝܬ ܚܣܡܐ ܘܚܪܝܢܐ ܬܡܢ ܐܦ ܕܠܘܚܝܐ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܒܝܫ
'yk' gyr d'yth khsm' wkhryn' thmn 'p dlwkhy' wklmdm dbysh
For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

ܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܕܟܝܐ ܗܝ ܘܡܠܝܐ ܫܠܡܐ ܘܡܟܝܟܐ ܘܡܫܬܡܥܢܝܐ ܘܡܠܝܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܘܦܐܪܐ ܛܒܐ ܘܕܠܐ ܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܘܒܐܦܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܒܐ
khkmth' dyn dmn lel dky' hy wmly' shlm' wmkyk' wmshthmeny' wmly' rkhm' wp'r' Tb' wdl' plgwth' hy wb'p' l' nsb'
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

ܦܐܪܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܒܫܝܢܐ ܡܙܕܪܥܝܢ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܒܕܝܢ ܫܠܡܐ
p'r' dyn dzdyqwth' bshyn' mzdreyn l'ylyn debdyn shlm'
Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
