ܐܚܝ ܠܐ ܒܡܣܒ ܒܐܦܐ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܐܚܝܕܝܢ ܠܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܕܬܫܒܘܚܬܗ ܕܡܪܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ
'khy l' bmsb b'p' thhwwn 'khydyn lhymnwth' dthshbwkhthh dmrn yshwe mshykh'
My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality.

ܐܢ ܓܝܪ ܢܥܘܠ ܠܟܢܘܫܬܟܘܢ ܐܢܫ ܕܥܙܩܬܗ ܕܕܗܒܐ ܐܘ ܕܡܐܢܘܗܝ ܫܦܝܪܐ ܘܢܥܘܠ ܡܣܟܢܐ ܒܡܐܢܐ ܨܐܐ
'n gyr newl lknwshthkwn 'nsh dezqthh ddhb' 'w dm'nwhy shpyr' wnewl mskn' bm'n' ts''
For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in;

ܘܬܚܘܪܘܢ ܒܗܘ ܕܠܒܝܫ ܡܐܢܐ ܫܦܝܪܐ ܘܬܐܡܪܘܢ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܗܪܟܐ ܬܒ ܫܦܝܪ ܘܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܬܐܡܪܘܢ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܩܘܡ ܠܗܠ ܐܘ ܬܒ ܠܟ ܗܪܟܐ ܩܕܡ ܟܘܒܫܐ ܕܪܓܠܝܢ
wthkhwrwn bhw dlbysh m'n' shpyr' wth'mrwn lh 'nth hrk' thb shpyr wlmskn' th'mrwn lh 'nth qwm lhl 'w thb lk hrk' qdm kwbsh' drglyn
and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”;

ܠܐ ܗܐ ܐܬܦܠܓܬܘܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܢܦܫܟܘܢ ܘܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܡܦܪܫܢܐ ܕܡܚܫܒܬܐ ܒܝܫܬܐ
l' h' 'thplgthwn lkwn bnpshkwn whwythwn mprshn' dmkhshbth' byshth'
haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

ܫܡܥܘ ܐܚܝ ܚܒܝܒܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܥܬܝܪܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܓܒܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܝܪܬܐ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܡܠܟ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܪܚܡܝܢ ܠܗ
shmew 'khy khbyb' l' hw' lmskn' delm' ethyr' dyn bhymnwth' gb' 'lh' dnhwwn yrth' bmlkwth' hy dmlk 'lh' l'ylyn drkhmyn lh
Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܫܛܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܠܐ ܗܐ ܥܬܝܪܐ ܡܫܬܥܠܝܢ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܢܓܕܝܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܠܒܝܬ ܕܝܢܐ
'nthwn dyn shTthwnyhy lmskn' l' h' ethyr' mshthelyn elykwn whnwn ngdyn lkwn lbyth dyn'
But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?

ܠܐ ܗܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܡܓܕܦܝܢ ܥܠ ܫܡܐ ܛܒܐ ܕܐܬܩܪܝ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ
l' h' hnwn mgdpyn el shm' Tb' d'thqry elykwn
Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?

ܘܐܢ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܗܕܐ ܡܫܠܡܝܬܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܟܬܝܒ ܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܩܪܝܒܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܟ ܫܦܝܪ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
w'n nmws' d'lh' bhd' mshlmythwn 'yk dkthyb dthrkhm lqrybk 'yk npshk shpyr ebdyn 'nthwn
However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well.

ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܐܦܐ ܢܣܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܬܟܘܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܝܟ ܥܒܪܝ ܥܠ ܢܡܘܣܐ
'n dyn b'p' nsbyn 'nthwn khTyth' ebdyn 'nthwn wmthkwnyn 'nthwn mn nmws' 'yk ebry el nmws'
But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

ܐܝܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܟܠܗ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܢܛܪ ܘܒܚܕܐ ܫܪܥ ܠܟܠܗ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܬܚܝܒ
'yn' gyr dklh nmws' nTr wbkhd' shre lklh nmws' 'thkhyb
For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܠܐ ܬܓܘܪ ܗܘ ܐܡܪ ܕܠܐ ܬܩܛܘܠ ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܓܐܪ ܐܢܬ ܐܠܐ ܩܛܠ ܐܢܬ ܗܘܝܬ ܠܟ ܥܒܪ ܥܠ ܢܡܘܣܐ
hw gyr d'mr dl' thgwr hw 'mr dl' thqTwl 'n dyn l' g'r 'nth 'l' qTl 'nth hwyth lk ebr el nmws'
For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

ܗܟܢܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܘܗܟܢܐ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܣܥܪܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܒܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܚܐܪܘܬܐ ܥܬܝܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܬܕܢܘ
hkn' hwythwn mmllyn whkn' hwythwn seryn 'yk 'nsh' dbnmws' dkh'rwth' ethydyn 'nthwn lmthdnw
So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.

ܕܝܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܗܘܐ ܕܠܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܥܠ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܪܚܡܐ ܡܫܬܥܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܪܚܡܐ ܥܠ ܕܝܢܐ
dyn' gyr hw' dl' rkhm' el hw dl' ebd rkhm' mshthelyn 'nthwn brkhm' el dyn'
For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

ܡܢܐ ܗܢܝܢܐ ܐܚܝ ܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܐܡܪ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܝ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܥܒܕܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܗ ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܗ ܕܬܚܝܘܗܝ
mn' hnyn' 'khy 'n 'nsh 'mr d'yth ly hymnwth' webd' lyth lh dlm' mshkkh' hymnwthh dthkhywhy
What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?

ܘܐܢ ܐܚܐ ܐܘ ܚܬܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܥܪܛܠܝܝܢ ܘܚܣܝܪܝܢ ܣܝܒܪܬܐ ܕܝܘܡܐ
w'n 'kh' 'w khth' nhwwn erTlyyn wkhsyryn sybrth' dywm'
And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,

ܘܢܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܫ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܙܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܫܚܢܘ ܘܣܒܥܘ ܘܠܐ ܬܬܠܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܣܢܝܩܘܬܗ ܕܦܓܪܐ ܡܢܐ ܗܢܝܢܐ
wn'mr lhwn 'nsh mnkwn zlw bshlm' shkhnw wsbew wl' ththlwn lhwn snyqwthh dpgr' mn' hnyn'
and one of you tells them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled”; and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܝ ܒܠܚܘܕܝܗ

Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.

ܐܡܪ ܓܝܪ ܐܢܫ ܠܟ ܐܝܬ ܠܟ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܠܝ ܐܝܬ ܠܝ ܥܒܕܐ ܚܘܢܝ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܟ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܡܚܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܝ ܡܢ ܥܒܕܝ
'mr gyr 'nsh lk 'yth lk hymnwth' wly 'yth ly ebd' khwny hymnwthk dl' ebd' w'n' mkhw' 'n' lk hymnwthy mn ebdy
Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

ܡܗܝܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܕܚܕ ܗܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܐܦ ܫܐܕܐ ܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܘܪܥܠܝܢ
mhymn 'nth dkhd hw 'lh' shpyr ebd 'nth 'p sh'd' mhymnyn wrelyn
You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.

ܨܒܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܝܢ ܕܬܕܥ ܐܘ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܚܠܫܐ ܕܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܝ
tsb' 'nth dyn dthde 'w brnsh' khlsh' dhymnwth' dl' ebd' myth' hy
But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?

ܐܒܘܢ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܙܕܕܩ ܕܐܣܩ ܠܐܝܣܚܩ ܒܪܗ ܥܠ ܡܕܒܚܐ
'bwn 'brhm l' hw' mn ebd' 'zddq d'sq l'yskhq brh el mdbkh'
Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

ܚܙܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܗܝܡܢܘܬܗ ܣܝܥܬ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܘܡܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܗ ܐܬܓܡܪܬ
khz' 'nth dhymnwthh syeth lebdwhy wmn ebd' hymnwthh 'thgmrth
You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;

ܘܫܠܡ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܗܝܡܢ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܬܚܫܒܬ ܠܗ ܠܙܕܝܩܘ ܘܪܚܡܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܬܩܪܝ
wshlm kthb' d'mr dhymn 'brhm b'lh' w'thkhshbth lh lzdyqw wrkhm' d'lh' 'thqry
and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God.

ܚܙܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܡܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܙܕܕܩ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܘܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܒܠܚܘܕ
khz' 'nth dmn ebd' mzddq brnsh' wl' hw' mn hymnwth' blkhwd
You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܪܚܒ ܙܢܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܙܕܕܩܬ ܕܩܒܠܬ ܠܓܫܘܫܐ ܘܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܐܚܪܬܐ ܐܦܩܬ ܐܢܘܢ
hkn' 'p rkhb znyth' l' hw' mn ebd' 'zddqth dqblth lgshwsh' wb'wrkh' 'khrth' 'pqth 'nwn
In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܦܓܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܡܝܬ ܗܘ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܝ

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
