The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

ܥܠ ܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܫ̈ܦܝܐ ܫܩܘܠܘ ܐܬܐ ܐܪܝܡܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܩܠܐ ܐܢܝܦܘ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܢܥܠܘܢ ܒܬܪ̈ܥܝܟܝ ܫ̈ܠܝܛܢܐ

Set up a banner on the bare mountain! Lift up your voice to them! Wave your hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

ܐܢܐ ܦܩ̇ܕܬ ܠܡܩܕܫܝ ܘܩܪܝܬ ܠܓܢܒܪ̈ܐ ܒܪܘܓܙܝ ܘܡܬܥܫܢܝܢ ܒܓܐܝܘܬܝ
bg'ywthy wmtheshnyn brwgzy lgnbr' wqryth lmqdshy pqdth 'n'
I have commanded my consecrated ones; yes, I have called my mighty men for my anger, even my proudly exulting ones.

ܩܠܐ ܕܪܓܘܫܝܐ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܘܡܝܐ ܕܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܣ̈ܓܝܐܐ ܩܠܐ ܕܪܓܘܫܝܐ ܕܡ̈ܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܕܡܬܟܢܫܝܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܣܥ̇ܪ ܚܝ̈ܠܐ ܩܪ̈ܒܬܢܐ
qrbthn' khyl' ser khylthn' mry' dmthknshyn demm' dmlkwth' drgwshy' ql' sgy'' demm' dwmy' bTwr' drgwshy' ql'
The noise of a multitude is in the mountains, as of a great people; the noise of an uproar of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! Yahweh of Armies is mustering the army for the battle.

ܐܬ̇ܝܢ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܘܡܢ ܣܘ̈ܦܝ ܫܡܝܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܡܐ̈ܢܐ ܕܪܘܓܙܗ ܠܡܚܒܠܘ ܠܟܠܗ̇ ܐܪܥܐ
're' lklh lmkhblw drwgzh wm'n' mry' shmy' swpy wmn rwkhq' mn 'thyn
They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even Yahweh, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

ܐܝܠܠܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܩܪܝܒ ܗܘ ܝܘܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܒܙܬܐ ܡܢ ܫܠܝܐ ܢܐܬܐ
n'th' shly' mn bzth' w'yk dmry' ywmh hw dqryb mTl 'yllw
Wail, for Yahweh’s day is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܟܘܠܗܝܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܐ ܢܬܪ̈ܦܝܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܠܒܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܢܬܡܣܐ
nthms' d'nsh' lb' wklh nthrpyn 'ydy' kwlhyn hn' mTl
Therefore all hands will be feeble, and everyone’s heart will melt.

ܘܢܬܕܠܚܘܢ ܘܨܘܪ̈ܢܐ ܘܚ̈ܒܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܝܠܕܬܐ ܢܐܚܕܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܢܬܡܗܘܢ ܓܒܪ ܒܚܒܪܗ ܘܐ̈ܦܐ ܕܫܠܗܒܝܬܐ ܐ̈ܦܝܗܘܢ
'pyhwn dshlhbyth' w'p' bkhbrh gbr wnthmhwn 'nwn n'khdwn dyldth' 'yk wkhbl' wtswrn' wnthdlkhwn
They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.

ܗܐ ܝܘܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐ̇ܬܐ ܕܐܣܝܘ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ ܐܟܬܢ ܘܚܡܝܡ ܪܘܓܙܗ ܕܢܥܒܕܝܗ̇ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܠܚܘܪܒܐ ܘܚ̈ܛܝܝܗ̇ ܢܘܒܕ ܡܢܗ̇
mnh nwbd wkhTyyh lkhwrb' l're' dnebdyh rwgzh wkhmym 'kthn bh lyth d'syw 'th' dmry' ywmh h'
Behold, the day of Yahweh comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy its sinners out of it.

ܡܛܠ ܕܟܘ̈ܟܒܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܘܚܝ̈ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܢܢܗܪܘܢ ܢܚܫܟ ܫܡܫܐ ܒܡܦܩܗ ܘܢܘܗܪܗ ܕܣܗܪܐ ܠܐ ܢܢܗܪ
nnhr l' dshr' wnwhrh bmpqh shmsh' nkhshk nnhrwn l' wkhylwthhwn dshmy' dkwkb' mTl
For the stars of the sky and its constellations will not give their light. The sun will be darkened in its going out, and the moon will not cause its light to shine.

ܐܦܩܘܕ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܥܠ ܬܒܝܠ ܘܥܠ ܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܥܘܠܗܘܢ ܐܒܛܠ ܪܡܘܬܐ ܕܫܒܗܪ̈ܢܐ ܘܓܐܝܘܬܐ ܕܥܫ̈ܝܢܐ ܐܡܟܟ
'mkk deshyn' wg'ywth' dshbhrn' rmwth' 'bTl ewlhwn rshye' wel thbyl el byshth' 'pqwd
I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will humble the arrogance of the terrible.

ܐܘܩܪ ܓܒܪܐ ܡܢ ܕܗܒܐ ܘܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܕܗܒܐ ܕܐܘܦܝܪ
d'wpyr dhb' mn w'nsh' dhb' mn gbr' 'wqr
I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܠܫܡܝܐ ܐܪܓܙ ܘܬܙܘܥ ܐܪܥܐ ܡܢ ܕܘܟܬܗ̇ ܒܟܐܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܚܡܬܐ ܕܪܘܓܙܗ
drwgzh dkhmth' bywm' khylthn' dmry' bk'thh dwkthh mn 're' wthzwe 'rgz lshmy' hn' mTl
Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place in Yahweh of Armies’ wrath, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ܢܗܘܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܛܒ̈ܝܐ ܕܥ̇ܪܩܝܢ ܘܐܝܟ ܥܢܐ ܕܠܝܬ ܠܗ̇ ܡܟܢܫܢܐ ܐܢܫ ܠܥܡܗ ܢܬܦܢܘܢ ܘܓܒܪ ܠܐܪܥܗ ܢܥܪܩܘܢ
nerqwn l'reh wgbr nthpnwn lemh 'nsh mknshn' lh dlyth en' w'yk derqyn Tby' 'yk nhwwn
It will happen that like a hunted gazelle and like sheep that no one gathers, they will each turn to their own people, and will each flee to their own land.

ܟܠ ܕܢܫܬܟܚ ܢܬܕܩܪ ܘܟܠ ܕܢܬܬܘܣܦ ܢܦܠ ܒܚܪܒܐ
bkhrb' npl dnththwsp wkl nthdqr dnshthkkh kl
Everyone who is found will be thrust through. Everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.

ܝ̈ܠܘܕܝܗܘܢ ܢܫܬܩܦܘܢ ܠܥܢܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܢܬܒܙܘܢ ܒ̈ܬܝܗܘܢ ܘܢܫܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܢܨܛܥܪ̈ܢ
ntsTern wnshyhwn bthyhwn wnthbzwn lenyhwn nshthqpwn ylwdyhwn
Their infants also will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses will be ransacked, and their wives raped.

ܗܐ ܡܥܝܪ ܐܢܐ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ ܠܡ̈ܕܝܐ ܕܟܣܦܐ ܠܐ ܚܫܝܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܒܕܗܒܐ ܠܐ ܡܨܛܒܝܢ
mtsTbyn l' wbdhb' lhwn khshyb l' dksp' lmdy' elykwn 'n' meyr h'
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not value silver, and as for gold, they will not delight in it.

ܩܫ̈ܬܬܐ ܕܥ̈ܠܝܡܐ ܢܬܬܒܪ̈ܢ ܘܥܠ ܦܐܪ̈ܐ ܕܟܪܣܐ ܠܐ ܢܪܚܡܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܒ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܢܚ̈ܘܣܢ ܥܝ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ
eynyhwn nkhwsn l' bnyhwn wel nrkhmwn l' dkrs' p'r' wel nththbrn delym' qshthth'
Their bows will dash the young men in pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb. Their eyes will not spare children.

ܘܬܗܘܐ ܒܒܠ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܡ̈ܠܟܘܬܐ ܘܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܓܐܝܘܬܐ ܕܟ̈ܠܕܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܗܦܟ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܣܕܘܡ ܘܠܥܡܘܪܐ
wlemwr' lsdwm 'lh' dhpk 'yk dkldy' dg'ywth' wshwbkh' dmlkwth' khyl' bbl wthhw'
Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be like when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

ܠܐ ܬܬܒ ܠܥܠܡ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܪܐ ܠܕܪܕܪܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܢܫܪܘܢ ܬܡܢ ܥܪ̈ܒܝܐ ܘܪ̈ܥܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܢܪܥܘܢ ܬܡܢ
thmn nrewn l' wrewth' erby' thmn nshrwn wl' ldrdryn thshr' wl' lelm ththb l'
It will never be inhabited, neither will it be lived in from generation to generation. The Arabian will not pitch a tent there, neither will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.

ܐܠܐ ܢܪ̈ܒܥܢ ܬܡܢ ܚܝ̈ܘܬܐ ܘܢܬܡܠܘܢ ܒܬ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܬ ܩ̈ܠܐ ܘܢܫܪ̈ܝܢ ܬܡܢ ܒܢ̈ܬ ܢܥܡ̈ܐ ܘܫܐ̈ܕܐ ܢܪܩܕܘܢ ܬܡܢ
thmn nrqdwn wsh'd' nem' bnth thmn wnshryn ql' bnth bthyhwn wnthmlwn khywth' thmn nrben 'l'
But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there.

ܘܢܥܢܝ̈ܢ ܣܝܪ̈ܝܢܣ ܒܣܚܪ̈ܬܗܘܢ ܘܝܪ̈ܘܪܐ ܒܗܝ̈ܟܠܐ ܕܦܘܢܩ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܩܪܝܒ ܗܘ ܙܒܢܗ̇ ܠܡܐܬܐ ܘܝܘܡ̈ܬܗ̇ ܬܘܒ ܠܐ ܢܬܡܬܚܘܢ
nthmthkhwn l' thwb wywmthh lm'th' zbnh hw qryb dpwnqyhwn bhykl' wyrwr' bskhrthhwn syryns wnenyn
Hyenas will cry in their fortresses, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.
