ܒܫܢܬ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܕܕܪܝܘܫ ܡܠܟܐ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܫܬܝܬܝܐ ܒܚܕ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܗܘܐ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܝܕ ܚܓܝ ܢܒܝܐ ܥܠ ܙܘܪܒܒܠ ܒܪ ܫܠܬܐܝܠ ܪܒܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܥܠ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܪ ܝܘܙܕܩ ܟܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ
lm'mr rb' khn' ywzdq br yshwe wel dyhwd' rb' shlth'yl br zwrbbl el nby' khgy byd dmry' pthgmh hw' byrkh' bkhd shthythy' byrkh' mlk' ddrywsh thrthyn bshnth
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐ ܡܛܝ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܢܬܒܢܐ ܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ
dmry' bythh dnthbn' zbn' mTy l' 'mryn hn' em' khylthn' mry' 'mr hkn'
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’”

ܘܗܘܐ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܝܕ ܚܓܝ ܢܒܝܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ

Then Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

ܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܠܟܘܢ ܗܢܐ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܝܬܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܒ̈ܬܝܟܘܢ ܟܕ ܡܛܠܠܝܢ ܘܒܝܬܐ ܗܢܐ ܚܪܒ
khrb hn' wbyth' mTllyn kd bbthykwn 'nthwn ythbyn d'nthwn hn' lkwn hw zbn'
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?

ܡܟܝܠ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܣܝܡܘ ܠܒ̈ܘܬܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܟܘܢ
'wrkhthkwn el lbwthkwn symw khylthn' mry' 'mr hkn' mkyl
Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.

ܕܙܪܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܣܓܝ ܘܚܡܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܩܠܝܠ ܘܐܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܣܒܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܫܬܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܪܘܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܒܫܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܫܚܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ ܕܡܬܬܓܪ ܡܬܬܓܪ ܠܨܪܪܐ ܢܩܝܒܐ
nqyb' ltsrr' mththgr dmththgr bkwn d'yth w'yn' 'nthwn shkhnyn wl' 'nthwn wlbshyn 'nthwn rwyn wl' 'nthwn wshthyn 'nthwn sbeyn wl' 'nthwn w'klyn qlyl 'nthwn wkhmlyn sgy 'nthwn dzreyn
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܣܝܡܘ ܠܒ̈ܘܬܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܟܘܢ

“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.

ܣܩܘ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܐܝܬܘ ܩܝ̈ܣܐ ܘܒܢܘ ܒܝܬܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܐܨܛܒܐ ܒܗ ܘܐܫܬܒܚ ܒܗ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' 'mr bh w'shthbkh bh w'tsTb' hn' byth' wbnw qys' 'ythw lTwr' sqw
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh.

ܚܝܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܣܘܓܐܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܩܠܝܠ ܘܡܥܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܓܘ ܒܝܬܐ ܘܢܦܚ ܐܢܐ ܒܗ ܘܥܠ ܡܢܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܕܚܪܒ ܒܝܬܝ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܪܗܛܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܒܝܬܗ

“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.

ܡܛܠܬܟܘܢ ܐܬܟܠܝܘ ܫܡܝܐ ܡܢ ܛܠܐ ܘܐܪܥܐ ܟܠܬ ܦܐܪ̈ܝܗ̇

Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.

ܘܩܪܝܬ ܚܪܒܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܥܠ ܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܠ ܥܒܘܪܐ ܘܥܠ ܚܡܪܐ ܘܥܠ ܡܫܚܐ ܘܥܠ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܦܩܐ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܥܠ ܒܢܝ̈ܢܫܐ ܘܥܠ ܒܥܝܪܐ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ̇ ܠܐܘܬܐ ܕܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ
d'ydykwn l'wth' klh wel beyr' wel bnynsh' wel 're' dmpq' mdm kl wel mshkh' wel khmr' wel ebwr' wel Twr' wel 're' el khrb' wqryth
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”

ܘܫܡܥ ܙܘܪܒܒܠ ܒܪ ܫܠܬܐܝܠ ܘܝܫܘܥ ܒܪ ܝܘܙܕܩ ܟܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܫܪܟܗ ܕܥܡܐ ܒܩܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗܘܢ ܘܠܦܬ̈ܓܡܘܗܝ ܕܚܓܝ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܫܕܪܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗܘܢ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܘܕܚܠܘ ܥܡܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed Yahweh their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh.

ܘܐܡܪ ܚܓܝ ܡܠܐܟܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܡܠܐܟܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܥܡܐ ܐܢܐ ܥܡܟܘܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ

Then Haggai, Yahweh’s messenger, spoke Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh.

ܘܐܥܝܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܙܘܪܒܒܠ ܒܪ ܫܠܬܐܝܠ ܪܒܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܪܘܚܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܒܪ ܝܘܙܕܩ ܟܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܕܟܠܗ ܫܪܟܗ ܕܥܡܐ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܘܥܒܕܘ ܥܒܕܐ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܐܠܗܗܘܢ
'lhhwn khylthn' dmry' bbythh ebd' webdw w'zlw dem' shrkh dklh wrwkh' rb' khn' ywzdq br dyshwe wrwkhh dyhwd' rb' shlth'yl br dzwrbbl rwkhh mry' w'eyr
Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God,

ܒܝܘܡ ܐܪ̈ܒܥܐ ܘܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܫܬܝܬܝܐ ܒܫܢܬ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܕܕܪܝܘܫ ܡܠܟܐ

in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
