בשנת תרתין לדריוש מלכא בירחא שתיתאה ביומא חד לירחא הוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי ביד חגי נביא לות זרבבל בר שאלתיאל רבא דבית יהודה ולות יהושע בר יהוצדק כהנא רבא למימר:

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

כדנן אמר יי צבאות למימר עמא הדין אמרין עד כען לא מטא עדן בית מקדשא דיי לאתבנאה:
lathbnah dyy mqdsha byth edn mTa la ken ed amryn hdyn ema lmymr tsbawth yy amr kdnn
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’”

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי ביד חגי נביא למימר:
lmymr nbya khgy byd yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

הכדין כשר לכון דאתון יתבין בבתיא די מטללין בנסרי ארזיא ובית מקדשא הדין חרוב:
khrwb hdyn mqdsha wbyth arzya bnsry mTllyn dy bbthya ythbyn dathwn lkwn kshr hkdyn
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?

וכען כדנן אמר יי צבאות שוו לבכון על אורחתכון:
awrkhthkwn el lbkwn shww tsbawth yy amr kdnn wken
Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.

זרעין אתון סגיאין ומעלין זעיר אכלין ולא סבעין שתן ולא רון לבשין ולא שחין להון ודמתגר מתגר למארתא:
lmartha mthgr wdmthgr lhwn shkhyn wla lbshyn rwn wla shthn sbeyn wla aklyn zeyr wmelyn sgyayn athwn zreyn
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’

כדנן אמר יי צבאות שוו לבכון על אורחתכון:
awrkhthkwn el lbkwn shww tsbawth yy amr kdnn
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.

סקו לטוריא ואיתו אעין ובנו ביתא ואתרעי לאשראה שכנתי ביה ביקר אמר יי:
yy amr byqr byh shknthy lashrah wathrey bytha wbnw aeyn waythw lTwrya sqw
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh.

מתפנן אתון לסגי והוי לזעיר מעלין אתון ליה לביתא ואנא שלח ביה מארתא חלף מה אמר יי צבאות חלף בית מקדשי דהוא חרוב ואתון רהטין גבר לביתיה:
lbythyh gbr rhTyn wathwn khrwb dhwa mqdshy byth khlp tsbawth yy amr mh khlp martha byh shlkh wana lbytha lyh athwn melyn lzeyr whwy lsgy athwn mthpnn
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.

על כן בדיל חוביכון פסקו שמיא מלאחתא מטרא וארעא פסקת מלמעבד פירין:
pyryn mlmebd psqth warea mTra mlakhtha shmya psqw khwbykwn bdyl kn el
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.

וקרית חורבא על ארעא ועל טוריא ועל עבורא ועל חמרא ועל משחא ועל כל די מפקא ארעא ועל אנשא ועל בעירא ועל כל ליאות ידין:
ydyn lyawth kl wel beyra wel ansha wel area mpqa dy kl wel mshkha wel khmra wel ebwra wel Twrya wel area el khwrba wqryth
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”

ושמע זרבבל בר שאלתיאל ויהושע בר יהוצדק כהנא רבא וכל שארא דעמא למימרא דיי אלההון ולפתגמי חגי נביא כמא דשלחיה יי אלההון ודחילו עמא מן קדם יי:
yy qdm mn ema wdkhylw alhhwn yy dshlkhyh kma nbya khgy wlpthgmy alhhwn dyy lmymra dema shara wkl rba khna yhwtsdq br wyhwshe shalthyal br zrbbl wshme
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed Yahweh their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh.

ואמר חגי נביא דיי בשלוחית מן קדם יי לעמא למימר מימרי בסעדכון אמר יי:
yy amr bsedkwn mymry lmymr lema yy qdm mn bshlwkhyth dyy nbya khgy wamr
Then Haggai, Yahweh’s messenger, spoke Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh.

ואער יי ית רוח זרבבל בר שאלתיאל רבא דבית יהודה וית רוח יהושע בר יהוצדק כהנא רבא וית רוח כל שארא דעמא ואתו ועבדו עבידתא בבית מקדשא דיי צבאות אלהא:
alha tsbawth dyy mqdsha bbyth ebydtha webdw wathw dema shara kl rwkh wyth rba khna yhwtsdq br yhwshe rwkh wyth yhwdh dbyth rba shalthyal br zrbbl rwkh yth yy waer
Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God,
