ופקיד ית די ממנא על ביתיה למימר מלי ית טועני גבריא עיבורא כמה די יכלין למטלי ושוי כסף גבר בפום טועניה:

He commanded the steward of his house, saying, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in his sack’s mouth.

וית קלידי קלידא דכספא תשוי בפום טוענא דזעירא וית כסף זבינוהי ועבד כפתגמא דיוסף די מליל:
wyth qlydy qlyda dkspa thshwy bpwm Twena dzeyra wyth ksp zbynwhy webd kpthgma dywsp dy mlyl
Put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with his grain money.” He did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

צפרא נהר וגבריא אתפטרו אנון וחמריהון:
tspra nhr wgbrya athpTrw anwn wkhmryhwn
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.

אנון נפקו מן קרתא לא ארחיקו ויוסף אמר לדי ממנא על ביתיה קום רדף בתר גבריא ותדבקנון ותימר להון למה אשלמתון בישא חלף טבתא:
anwn npqw mn qrtha la arkhyqw wywsp amr ldy mmna el bythyh qwm rdp bthr gbrya wthdbqnwn wthymr lhwn lmh ashlmthwn bysha khlp Tbtha
When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, “Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, ‘Why have you rewarded evil for good?

הלא דין דשתי רבוני ביה והוא בדקא מבדק ביה אבאשתון די עבדתון:
hla dyn dshthy rbwny byh whwa bdqa mbdq byh abashthwn dy ebdthwn
Isn’t this that from which my lord drinks, and by which he indeed divines? You have done evil in so doing.’”

ואדביקנון ומליל עמהון ית פתגמיא האלין:
wadbyqnwn wmlyl emhwn yth pthgmya halyn
He overtook them, and he spoke these words to them.

ואמרו ליה למה ימלל רבוני כפתגמיא האלין חס לעבדיך מלמעבד כפתגמא הדין:
wamrw lyh lmh ymll rbwny kpthgmya halyn khs lebdyk mlmebd kpthgma hdyn
They said to him, “Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants that they should do such a thing!

הא כספא די אשכחנא בפום טועננא אתיבנוהי לך מארעא דכנען ואכדין נגנוב מבית רבונך כספא או דהבא :
ha kspa dy ashkkhna bpwm Twenna athybnwhy lk marea dknen wakdyn ngnwb mbyth rbwnk kspa aw dhba
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again to you out of the land of Canaan. How then should we steal silver or gold out of your lord’s house?

די ישתכח עמיה מעבדיך ומית ואף אנחנא נהי לרבוני לעבדין:
dy yshthkkh emyh mebdyk wmyth wap ankhna nhy lrbwny lebdyn
With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s slaves.”
10
ואמר אף כען כפתגמיכון כן הוא די ישתכח עמיה יהי לי עבדא ואתון תהון זכאין:
wamr ap ken kpthgmykwn kn hwa dy yshthkkh emyh yhy ly ebda wathwn thhwn zkayn
He said, “Now also let it be according to your words. He with whom it is found will be my slave; and you will be blameless.”

ואוחיאו ונחיתו גבר ית טועניה לארעא ופתחו גבר טועניה:
wawkhyaw wnkhythw gbr yth Twenyh larea wpthkhw gbr Twenyh
Then they hurried, and each man took his sack down to the ground, and each man opened his sack.

ובלש ברבא שרי ובזעירא שצי ואשתכח קלידא בטוענא דבנימן:
wblsh brba shry wbzeyra shtsy washthkkh qlyda bTwena dbnymn
He searched, beginning with the oldest, and ending at the youngest. The cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.

ובזעו לבושיהון ורמו גבר על חמריה ותבו לקרתא:
wbzew lbwshyhwn wrmw gbr el khmryh wthbw lqrtha
Then they tore their clothes, and each man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.
14
ועל יהודה ואחוהי לבית יוסף והוא עד כען תמן ונפלו קדמוהי לארעא:
wel yhwdh wakhwhy lbyth ywsp whwa ed ken thmn wnplw qdmwhy larea
Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house, and he was still there. They fell on the ground before him.

ואמר להון יוסף מה עובדא הדין די עבדתון הלא ידעתון ארי בדקא מבדק גברא די כותי:
wamr lhwn ywsp mh ewbda hdyn dy ebdthwn hla ydethwn ary bdqa mbdq gbra dy kwthy
Joseph said to them, “What deed is this that you have done? Don’t you know that such a man as I can indeed do divination?”

ואמר יהודה מה נימר לרבוני מה נמלל ומה נזכי מן קדם יי אשתכח ית חובא בעבדיך הא אנחנא עבדין לרבוני אף אנחנא אף דאשתכח קלידא בידיה:
wamr yhwdh mh nymr lrbwny mh nmll wmh nzky mn qdm yy ashthkkh yth khwba bebdyk ha ankhna ebdyn lrbwny ap ankhna ap dashthkkh qlyda bydyh
Judah said, “What will we tell my lord? What will we speak? How will we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and he also in whose hand the cup is found.”

ואמר חס לי מלמעבד דא גברא די ישתכח קלידא בידיה הוא יהי לי עבדא ואתון סקו לשלם לות אבוכון:
wamr khs ly mlmebd da gbra dy yshthkkh qlyda bydyh hwa yhy ly ebda wathwn sqw lshlm lwth abwkwn
He said, “Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father.”

וקרב לותיה יהודה ואמר בבעו רבוני ימלל כען עבדך פתגמא קדם רבוני ולא יתקף רוגזך בעבדך ארי כפרעה כן את:
wqrb lwthyh yhwdh wamr bbew rbwny ymll ken ebdk pthgma qdm rbwny wla ythqp rwgzk bebdk ary kpreh kn ath
Then Judah came near to him, and said, “Oh, my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord’s ears, and don’t let your anger burn against your servant; for you are even as Pharaoh.

רבוני שאיל ית עבדוהי למימר האית לכון אבא או אחא:
rbwny shayl yth ebdwhy lmymr hayth lkwn aba aw akha
My lord asked his servants, saying, ‘Have you a father, or a brother?’
20
ואמרנא לרבוני אית לנא אבא סבא ובר סיבתין זעיר ואחוהי מית ואשתאר הוא בלחודוהי לאמה ואבוהי רחים לה:
wamrna lrbwny ayth lna aba sba wbr sybthyn zeyr wakhwhy myth washthar hwa blkhwdwhy lamh wabwhy rkhym lh
We said to my lord, ‘We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loves him.’
21
ואמרת לעבדיך אחיתוהי לותי ואשוי עיני עלוהי:
wamrth lebdyk akhythwhy lwthy washwy eyny elwhy
You said to your servants, ‘Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes on him.’
22
ואמרנא לרבוני לא יכול עולימא למשבק ית אבוהי ואם ישבוק ית אבוהי ומית:
wamrna lrbwny la ykwl ewlyma lmshbq yth abwhy wam yshbwq yth abwhy wmyth
We said to my lord, ‘The boy can’t leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.’

ואמרת לעבדיך אם לא יחות אחוכון זעירא עמכון לא תוספון למחזי אפי:
wamrth lebdyk am la ykhwth akhwkwn zeyra emkwn la thwspwn lmkhzy apy
You said to your servants, ‘Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will see my face no more.’
24
והוה כד סליקנא לעבדך אבא וחוינא ליה ית פתגמי רבוני:
whwh kd slyqna lebdk aba wkhwyna lyh yth pthgmy rbwny
When we came up to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.
25
ואמר אבונא תובו זבונו לנא זעיר עיבורא:
wamr abwna thwbw zbwnw lna zeyr eybwra
Our father said, ‘Go again and buy us a little food.’
26
ואמרנא לא נכול למיחת אם אית אחונא זעירא עמנא ונחות ארי לא נכול למחזי אפי גברא ואחונא זעירא ליתוהי עמנא:
wamrna la nkwl lmykhth am ayth akhwna zeyra emna wnkhwth ary la nkwl lmkhzy apy gbra wakhwna zeyra lythwhy emna
We said, ‘We can’t go down. If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go down: for we may not see the man’s face, unless our youngest brother is with us.’
27
ואמר עבדך אבא לנא אתון ידעתון ארי תרין ילידת לי אתתי:
wamr ebdk aba lna athwn ydethwn ary thryn ylydth ly aththy
Your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.
28
ונפק חד מלותי ואמרית ברם מקטל קטיל ולא חזתיה עד כען:
wnpq khd mlwthy wamryth brm mqTl qTyl wla khzthyh ed ken
One went out from me, and I said, “Surely he is torn in pieces;” and I haven’t seen him since.
29
ותדברון אף ית דין מן קדמי ויערעניה מותא ותחתון ית שבתי בבישתא לשאול:
wthdbrwn ap yth dyn mn qdmy wyerenyh mwtha wthkhthwn yth shbthy bbyshtha lshawl
If you take this one also from me, and harm happens to him, you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.’
30
וכען כמיתי לות עבדך אבא ועולימא ליתוהי עמנא ונפשיה חביבא לה כנפשיה:
wken kmythy lwth ebdk aba wewlyma lythwhy emna wnpshyh khbyba lh knpshyh
Now therefore when I come to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us; since his life is bound up in the boy’s life;
31
ויהי כד יחזי ארי לית עולימא ומית ויחתון עבדיך ית שיבת עבדך אבונא בדוונא לשאול:
wyhy kd ykhzy ary lyth ewlyma wmyth wykhthwn ebdyk yth shybth ebdk abwna bdwwna lshawl
it will happen, when he sees that the boy is no more, that he will die. Your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant, our father, with sorrow to Sheol.
32
ארי עבדך מערב בעולימא מן אבא למימר אם לא איתניה לותך ואהי חטי לאבא כל יומיא:
ary ebdk merb bewlyma mn aba lmymr am la aythnyh lwthk wahy khTy laba kl ywmya
For your servant became collateral for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I don’t bring him to you, then I will bear the blame to my father forever.’
33
וכען יתב כען עבדך תחות עולימא עבדא לרבוני ועולימא יסק עם אחוהי:
wken ythb ken ebdk thkhwth ewlyma ebda lrbwny wewlyma ysq em akhwhy
Now therefore, please let your servant stay instead of the boy, my lord’s slave; and let the boy go up with his brothers.
34
ארי אכדין אסק לות אבא ועולימא ליתוהי עמי דלמא אחזי בבישו די ישתכח ית אבא:
ary akdyn asq lwth aba wewlyma lythwhy emy dlma akhzy bbyshw dy yshthkkh yth aba
For how will I go up to my father, if the boy isn’t with me?—lest I see the evil that will come on my father.”
