ופקיד ית די ממנא על ביתיה למימר מלי ית טועני גבריא עיבורא כמה די יכלין למטלי ושוי כסף גבר בפום טועניה:
Twenyh bpwm gbr ksp wshwy lmTly yklyn dy kmh eybwra gbrya Tweny yth mly lmymr bythyh el mmna dy yth wpqyd
He commanded the steward of his house, saying, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in his sack’s mouth.

וית קלידי קלידא דכספא תשוי בפום טוענא דזעירא וית כסף זבינוהי ועבד כפתגמא דיוסף די מליל:
mlyl dy dywsp kpthgma webd zbynwhy ksp wyth dzeyra Twena bpwm thshwy dkspa qlyda qlydy wyth
Put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with his grain money.” He did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

צפרא נהר וגבריא אתפטרו אנון וחמריהון:
wkhmryhwn anwn athpTrw wgbrya nhr tspra
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.

אנון נפקו מן קרתא לא ארחיקו ויוסף אמר לדי ממנא על ביתיה קום רדף בתר גבריא ותדבקנון ותימר להון למה אשלמתון בישא חלף טבתא:
Tbtha khlp bysha ashlmthwn lmh lhwn wthymr wthdbqnwn gbrya bthr rdp qwm bythyh el mmna ldy amr wywsp arkhyqw la qrtha mn npqw anwn
When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, “Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, ‘Why have you rewarded evil for good?

הלא דין דשתי רבוני ביה והוא בדקא מבדק ביה אבאשתון די עבדתון:
ebdthwn dy abashthwn byh mbdq bdqa whwa byh rbwny dshthy dyn hla
Isn’t this that from which my lord drinks, and by which he indeed divines? You have done evil in so doing.’”

ואדביקנון ומליל עמהון ית פתגמיא האלין:
halyn pthgmya yth emhwn wmlyl wadbyqnwn
He overtook them, and he spoke these words to them.

ואמרו ליה למה ימלל רבוני כפתגמיא האלין חס לעבדיך מלמעבד כפתגמא הדין:
hdyn kpthgma mlmebd lebdyk khs halyn kpthgmya rbwny ymll lmh lyh wamrw
They said to him, “Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants that they should do such a thing!

הא כספא די אשכחנא בפום טועננא אתיבנוהי לך מארעא דכנען ואכדין נגנוב מבית רבונך כספא או דהבא :
dhba aw kspa rbwnk mbyth ngnwb wakdyn dknen marea lk athybnwhy Twenna bpwm ashkkhna dy kspa ha
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again to you out of the land of Canaan. How then should we steal silver or gold out of your lord’s house?

די ישתכח עמיה מעבדיך ומית ואף אנחנא נהי לרבוני לעבדין:
lebdyn lrbwny nhy ankhna wap wmyth mebdyk emyh yshthkkh dy
With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s slaves.”
10
ואמר אף כען כפתגמיכון כן הוא די ישתכח עמיה יהי לי עבדא ואתון תהון זכאין:
zkayn thhwn wathwn ebda ly yhy emyh yshthkkh dy hwa kn kpthgmykwn ken ap wamr
He said, “Now also let it be according to your words. He with whom it is found will be my slave; and you will be blameless.”

ואוחיאו ונחיתו גבר ית טועניה לארעא ופתחו גבר טועניה:
Twenyh gbr wpthkhw larea Twenyh yth gbr wnkhythw wawkhyaw
Then they hurried, and each man took his sack down to the ground, and each man opened his sack.

ובלש ברבא שרי ובזעירא שצי ואשתכח קלידא בטוענא דבנימן:
dbnymn bTwena qlyda washthkkh shtsy wbzeyra shry brba wblsh
He searched, beginning with the oldest, and ending at the youngest. The cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.

ובזעו לבושיהון ורמו גבר על חמריה ותבו לקרתא:
lqrtha wthbw khmryh el gbr wrmw lbwshyhwn wbzew
Then they tore their clothes, and each man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.

ועל יהודה ואחוהי לבית יוסף והוא עד כען תמן ונפלו קדמוהי לארעא:
larea qdmwhy wnplw thmn ken ed whwa ywsp lbyth wakhwhy yhwdh wel
Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house, and he was still there. They fell on the ground before him.

ואמר להון יוסף מה עובדא הדין די עבדתון הלא ידעתון ארי בדקא מבדק גברא די כותי:
kwthy dy gbra mbdq bdqa ary ydethwn hla ebdthwn dy hdyn ewbda mh ywsp lhwn wamr
Joseph said to them, “What deed is this that you have done? Don’t you know that such a man as I can indeed do divination?”

ואמר יהודה מה נימר לרבוני מה נמלל ומה נזכי מן קדם יי אשתכח ית חובא בעבדיך הא אנחנא עבדין לרבוני אף אנחנא אף דאשתכח קלידא בידיה:
bydyh qlyda dashthkkh ap ankhna ap lrbwny ebdyn ankhna ha bebdyk khwba yth ashthkkh yy qdm mn nzky wmh nmll mh lrbwny nymr mh yhwdh wamr
Judah said, “What will we tell my lord? What will we speak? How will we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and he also in whose hand the cup is found.”

ואמר חס לי מלמעבד דא גברא די ישתכח קלידא בידיה הוא יהי לי עבדא ואתון סקו לשלם לות אבוכון:
abwkwn lwth lshlm sqw wathwn ebda ly yhy hwa bydyh qlyda yshthkkh dy gbra da mlmebd ly khs wamr
He said, “Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father.”

וקרב לותיה יהודה ואמר בבעו רבוני ימלל כען עבדך פתגמא קדם רבוני ולא יתקף רוגזך בעבדך ארי כפרעה כן את:
ath kn kpreh ary bebdk rwgzk ythqp wla rbwny qdm pthgma ebdk ken ymll rbwny bbew wamr yhwdh lwthyh wqrb
Then Judah came near to him, and said, “Oh, my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord’s ears, and don’t let your anger burn against your servant; for you are even as Pharaoh.

רבוני שאיל ית עבדוהי למימר האית לכון אבא או אחא:
akha aw aba lkwn hayth lmymr ebdwhy yth shayl rbwny
My lord asked his servants, saying, ‘Have you a father, or a brother?’
20
ואמרנא לרבוני אית לנא אבא סבא ובר סיבתין זעיר ואחוהי מית ואשתאר הוא בלחודוהי לאמה ואבוהי רחים לה:
lh rkhym wabwhy lamh blkhwdwhy hwa washthar myth wakhwhy zeyr sybthyn wbr sba aba lna ayth lrbwny wamrna
We said to my lord, ‘We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loves him.’
21
ואמרת לעבדיך אחיתוהי לותי ואשוי עיני עלוהי:
elwhy eyny washwy lwthy akhythwhy lebdyk wamrth
You said to your servants, ‘Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes on him.’
22
ואמרנא לרבוני לא יכול עולימא למשבק ית אבוהי ואם ישבוק ית אבוהי ומית:
wmyth abwhy yth yshbwq wam abwhy yth lmshbq ewlyma ykwl la lrbwny wamrna
We said to my lord, ‘The boy can’t leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.’

ואמרת לעבדיך אם לא יחות אחוכון זעירא עמכון לא תוספון למחזי אפי:
apy lmkhzy thwspwn la emkwn zeyra akhwkwn ykhwth la am lebdyk wamrth
You said to your servants, ‘Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will see my face no more.’

והוה כד סליקנא לעבדך אבא וחוינא ליה ית פתגמי רבוני:
rbwny pthgmy yth lyh wkhwyna aba lebdk slyqna kd whwh
When we came up to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.
25
ואמר אבונא תובו זבונו לנא זעיר עיבורא:
eybwra zeyr lna zbwnw thwbw abwna wamr
Our father said, ‘Go again and buy us a little food.’
26
ואמרנא לא נכול למיחת אם אית אחונא זעירא עמנא ונחות ארי לא נכול למחזי אפי גברא ואחונא זעירא ליתוהי עמנא:
emna lythwhy zeyra wakhwna gbra apy lmkhzy nkwl la ary wnkhwth emna zeyra akhwna ayth am lmykhth nkwl la wamrna
We said, ‘We can’t go down. If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go down: for we may not see the man’s face, unless our youngest brother is with us.’
27
ואמר עבדך אבא לנא אתון ידעתון ארי תרין ילידת לי אתתי:
aththy ly ylydth thryn ary ydethwn athwn lna aba ebdk wamr
Your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.
28
ונפק חד מלותי ואמרית ברם מקטל קטיל ולא חזתיה עד כען:
ken ed khzthyh wla qTyl mqTl brm wamryth mlwthy khd wnpq
One went out from me, and I said, “Surely he is torn in pieces;” and I haven’t seen him since.
29
ותדברון אף ית דין מן קדמי ויערעניה מותא ותחתון ית שבתי בבישתא לשאול:
lshawl bbyshtha shbthy yth wthkhthwn mwtha wyerenyh qdmy mn dyn yth ap wthdbrwn
If you take this one also from me, and harm happens to him, you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.’
30
וכען כמיתי לות עבדך אבא ועולימא ליתוהי עמנא ונפשיה חביבא לה כנפשיה:
knpshyh lh khbyba wnpshyh emna lythwhy wewlyma aba ebdk lwth kmythy wken
Now therefore when I come to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us; since his life is bound up in the boy’s life;
31
ויהי כד יחזי ארי לית עולימא ומית ויחתון עבדיך ית שיבת עבדך אבונא בדוונא לשאול:
lshawl bdwwna abwna ebdk shybth yth ebdyk wykhthwn wmyth ewlyma lyth ary ykhzy kd wyhy
it will happen, when he sees that the boy is no more, that he will die. Your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant, our father, with sorrow to Sheol.
32
ארי עבדך מערב בעולימא מן אבא למימר אם לא איתניה לותך ואהי חטי לאבא כל יומיא:
ywmya kl laba khTy wahy lwthk aythnyh la am lmymr aba mn bewlyma merb ebdk ary
For your servant became collateral for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I don’t bring him to you, then I will bear the blame to my father forever.’
33
וכען יתב כען עבדך תחות עולימא עבדא לרבוני ועולימא יסק עם אחוהי:
akhwhy em ysq wewlyma lrbwny ebda ewlyma thkhwth ebdk ken ythb wken
Now therefore, please let your servant stay instead of the boy, my lord’s slave; and let the boy go up with his brothers.
