וחזא יעקב ארי אית עיבורא מזדבן במצרים ואמר יעקב לבנוהי למא תתחזון:
wkhza yeqb ary ayth eybwra mzdbn bmtsrym wamr yeqb lbnwhy lma ththkhzwn
Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”

ואמר הא שמעית אמרין ארי אית עיבורא מזדבן במצרים חותו תמן וזבונו לנא מתמן ונחי ולא נמות:
wamr ha shmeyth amryn ary ayth eybwra mzdbn bmtsrym khwthw thmn wzbwnw lna mthmn wnkhy wla nmwth
He said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die.”

ונחתו אחי יוסף עסרא למזבן עיבורא ממצרים:
wnkhthw akhy ywsp esra lmzbn eybwra mmtsrym
Joseph’s ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
4
וית בנימין אחוהי דיוסף לא שלח יעקב עם אחוהי ארי אמר דלמא יערעניה מותא:
wyth bnymyn akhwhy dywsp la shlkh yeqb em akhwhy ary amr dlma yerenyh mwtha
But Jacob didn’t send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his brothers; for he said, “Lest perhaps harm happen to him.”

ואתו בני ישראל למזבן עיבורא בגו עליא ארי הוה כפנא בארעא דכנען:
wathw bny yshral lmzbn eybwra bgw elya ary hwh kpna barea dknen
The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

ויוסף הוא דשליט על ארעא הוא דזבין עיבורא לכל עמא דארעא ואתו אחי יוסף וסגידו ליה על אפיא על ארעא:
wywsp hwa dshlyT el area hwa dzbyn eybwra lkl ema darea wathw akhy ywsp wsgydw lyh el apya el area
Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.

וחזא יוסף ית אחוהי ואשתמודענון וחשיב מה דמליל להון ומליל עמהון קשיא ואמר להון מנן אתיתון ואמרו מארעא דכנען למזבן עיבורא:
wkhza ywsp yth akhwhy washthmwdenwn wkhshyb mh dmlyl lhwn wmlyl emhwn qshya wamr lhwn mnn athythwn wamrw marea dknen lmzbn eybwra
Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, “Where did you come from?” They said, “From the land of Canaan, to buy food.”

ואשתמודע יוסף ית אחוהי ואנון לא אשתמודעיה:
washthmwde ywsp yth akhwhy wanwn la ashthmwdeyh
Joseph recognized his brothers, but they didn’t recognize him.

ודכיר יוסף ית חלמיא די חלים להון ואמר להון מאללין אתון למחזי ית בדקא דארעא אתיתון:
wdkyr ywsp yth khlmya dy khlym lhwn wamr lhwn mallyn athwn lmkhzy yth bdqa darea athythwn
Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land.”

ואמרו ליה לא רבוני ועבדיך עלו למזבן עיבורא:
wamrw lyh la rbwny webdyk elw lmzbn eybwra
They said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.
11
כלנא בני גברא חד נחנא כיוני אנחנא לא הוו עבדיך אלילי:
klna bny gbra khd nkhna kywny ankhna la hww ebdyk alyly
We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies.”
12
ואמר להון לא ארי בדקא דארעא אתיתון למחזי:
wamr lhwn la ary bdqa darea athythwn lmkhzy
He said to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!”
13
ואמרו תרין עסר עבדיך אחין אנחנא בני גברא חד בארעא דכנען והא זעירא עם אבונא יומא דין וחד ליתוהי:
wamrw thryn esr ebdyk akhyn ankhna bny gbra khd barea dknen wha zeyra em abwna ywma dyn wkhd lythwhy
They said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is today with our father, and one is no more.”

ואמר להון יוסף הוא די מלילית עמכון למימר מאלילי אתון:
wamr lhwn ywsp hwa dy mlylyth emkwn lmymr malyly athwn
Joseph said to them, “It is like I told you, saying, ‘You are spies!’
15
בדא תתבחנון חי פרעה אם תפקון מכא אלהין במתי אחוכון זעירא הכא:
bda ththbkhnwn khy preh am thpqwn mka alhyn bmthy akhwkwn zeyra hka
By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.

שלחו מנכון חד וידבר ית אחוכון ואתון התאסרון ויתבחנון פתגמיכון הקשוט אתון אמרין ואם לא חי פרעה ארי מאלילי אתון:
shlkhw mnkwn khd wydbr yth akhwkwn wathwn hthasrwn wythbkhnwn pthgmykwn hqshwT athwn amryn wam la khy preh ary malyly athwn
Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you, or else by the life of Pharaoh surely you are spies.”

וכנש יתהון למטרא תלתא יומין:
wknsh ythhwn lmTra thltha ywmyn
He put them all together into custody for three days.
18
ואמר להון יוסף ביומא תליתאה דא עיבידו וקיימו מן קדם יי אנא דחל:
wamr lhwn ywsp bywma thlythah da eybydw wqyymw mn qdm yy ana dkhl
Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this, and live, for I fear God.
19
אם כיוני אתון אחוכון חד יתאסר בבית מטרתכון ואתון איזילו אובילו עיבורא דחסיר בבתיכון:
am kywny athwn akhwkwn khd ythasr bbyth mTrthkwn wathwn ayzylw awbylw eybwra dkhsyr bbthykwn
If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.
20
וית אחוכון זעירא תיתון לותי ויהימנון פתגמיכון ולא תמותון ועבדו כן:
wyth akhwkwn zeyra thythwn lwthy wyhymnwn pthgmykwn wla thmwthwn webdw kn
Bring your youngest brother to me; so will your words be verified, and you won’t die.” They did so.

ואמרו גבר לאחוהי בקושטא חיבין אנחנא על אחונא די חזינא עקת נפשיה כד הוה מתחנן לנא ולא קבלנא מניה על כן אתא לותנא עקתא הדא:
wamrw gbr lakhwhy bqwshTa khybyn ankhna el akhwna dy khzyna eqth npshyh kd hwh mthkhnn lna wla qblna mnyh el kn atha lwthna eqtha hda
They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”

ואתיב ראובן יתהון למימר הלא אמרית לותכון למימר לא תחובון בעולימא ולא קבלתון ואף דמיה הא מתבעי:
wathyb rawbn ythhwn lmymr hla amryth lwthkwn lmymr la thkhwbwn bewlyma wla qblthwn wap dmyh ha mthbey
Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”

ואנון לא ידעון ארי שמיע יוסף ארי מתרגמן הוה ביניהון:
wanwn la ydewn ary shmye ywsp ary mthrgmn hwh bynyhwn
They didn’t know that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.
24
ואסתחר מעלויהון ובכא ותב לותהון ומליל עמהון ודבר מלותהון ית שמעון ואסר יתיה לעיניהון:
wasthkhr melwyhwn wbka wthb lwthhwn wmlyl emhwn wdbr mlwthhwn yth shmewn wasr ythyh leynyhwn
He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.

ופקיד יוסף ומלו ית מניהון עיבורא ולאתבא כספיהון גבר לסקיה ולמתן להון זודין לארחא ועבד להון כן:
wpqyd ywsp wmlw yth mnyhwn eybwra wlathba kspyhwn gbr lsqyh wlmthn lhwn zwdyn larkha webd lhwn kn
Then Joseph gave a command to fill their bags with grain, and to restore each man’s money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.

ונטלו ית עיבורהון על חמריהון ואזלו מתמן:
wnTlw yth eybwrhwn el khmryhwn wazlw mthmn
They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.
27
ופתח חד ית סקיה למתן כסתא לחמריה בבית מבתא וחזא ית כספיה והא הוא בפום טועניה:
wpthkh khd yth sqyh lmthn kstha lkhmryh bbyth mbtha wkhza yth kspyh wha hwa bpwm Twenyh
As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.

ואמר לאחוהי אתותב כספי ואף הא בטועני ונפק מדע לבהון ותוהו גבר לאחוהי למימר מה דא עבד יי לנא:
wamr lakhwhy athwthb kspy wap ha bTweny wnpq mde lbhwn wthwhw gbr lakhwhy lmymr mh da ebd yy lna
He said to his brothers, “My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!” Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, “What is this that God has done to us?”

ואתו לות יעקב אבוהון ארעא דכנען וחויאו ליה ית כל דארען יתהון למימר:
wathw lwth yeqb abwhwn area dknen wkhwyaw lyh yth kl daren ythhwn lmymr
They came to Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,

מליל גברא רבונא דארעא עמנא קשין ויהב יתנא כמאלילי ית ארעא:
mlyl gbra rbwna darea emna qshyn wyhb ythna kmalyly yth area
“The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country.
31
ואמרנא ליה כיוני אנחנא לא הוינא מאלילי:
wamrna lyh kywny ankhna la hwyna malyly
We said to him, ‘We are honest men. We are no spies.
32
תרין עסר אנחנא אחין בני אבונא חד ליתוהי וזעירא יומא דין עם אבונא בארעא דכנען:
thryn esr ankhna akhyn bny abwna khd lythwhy wzeyra ywma dyn em abwna barea dknen
We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is today with our father in the land of Canaan.’
33
ואמר לנא גברא רבונא דארעא בדא אדע ארי כיוני אתון אחוכון חד שבוקו לותי וית עיבורא דחסיר בבתיכון סיבו ואזילו:
wamr lna gbra rbwna darea bda ade ary kywny athwn akhwkwn khd shbwqw lwthy wyth eybwra dkhsyr bbthykwn sybw wazylw
The man, the lord of the land, said to us, ‘By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way.
34
ואיתיאו ית אחוכון זעירא לותי ואדע ארי לא מאלילי אתון ארי כיוני אתון ית אחוכון אתן לכון וית ארעא תעבדון בה סחורתא:
waythyaw yth akhwkwn zeyra lwthy wade ary la malyly athwn ary kywny athwn yth akhwkwn athn lkwn wyth area thebdwn bh skhwrtha
Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your brother to you, and you shall trade in the land.’”
35
והוה אנון מריקין סקיהון והא גבר צריר כספיה בסקיה וחזו ית צררי כספיהון אנון ואבוהון ודחילו:
whwh anwn mryqyn sqyhwn wha gbr tsryr kspyh bsqyh wkhzw yth tsrry kspyhwn anwn wabwhwn wdkhylw
As they emptied their sacks, behold, each man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were afraid.
36
ואמר להון יעקב אבוהון יתי אתכלתון יוסף ליתוהי ושמעון לא הוה הכא וית בנימן תדברון עלי הוו כלהון:
wamr lhwn yeqb abwhwn ythy athklthwn ywsp lythwhy wshmewn la hwh hka wyth bnymn thdbrwn ely hww klhwn
Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”
37
ואמר ראובן לות אבוהי למימר ית תרין בני תמית אם לא איתניה לותך הב יתיה על ידי ואנא אתבניה לך:
wamr rawbn lwth abwhy lmymr yth thryn bny thmyth am la aythnyh lwthk hb ythyh el ydy wana athbnyh lk
Reuben spoke to his father, saying, “Kill my two sons, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.”
38
ואמר לא יחות ברי עמכון ארי אחוהי מית והוא בלחודוהי אשתאר ויערעניה מותא בארחא די תהכון בה ותחתון ית שיבתי בדוונא לשאול:
wamr la ykhwth bry emkwn ary akhwhy myth whwa blkhwdwhy ashthar wyerenyh mwtha barkha dy thhkwn bh wthkhthwn yth shybthy bdwwna lshawl
He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”
