וחזא יעקב ארי אית עיבורא מזדבן במצרים ואמר יעקב לבנוהי למא תתחזון:
ththkhzwn lma lbnwhy yeqb wamr bmtsrym mzdbn eybwra ayth ary yeqb wkhza
Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”

ואמר הא שמעית אמרין ארי אית עיבורא מזדבן במצרים חותו תמן וזבונו לנא מתמן ונחי ולא נמות:
nmwth wla wnkhy mthmn lna wzbwnw thmn khwthw bmtsrym mzdbn eybwra ayth ary amryn shmeyth ha wamr
He said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die.”

ונחתו אחי יוסף עסרא למזבן עיבורא ממצרים:
mmtsrym eybwra lmzbn esra ywsp akhy wnkhthw
Joseph’s ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
4
וית בנימין אחוהי דיוסף לא שלח יעקב עם אחוהי ארי אמר דלמא יערעניה מותא:
mwtha yerenyh dlma amr ary akhwhy em yeqb shlkh la dywsp akhwhy bnymyn wyth
But Jacob didn’t send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his brothers; for he said, “Lest perhaps harm happen to him.”

ואתו בני ישראל למזבן עיבורא בגו עליא ארי הוה כפנא בארעא דכנען:
dknen barea kpna hwh ary elya bgw eybwra lmzbn yshral bny wathw
The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

ויוסף הוא דשליט על ארעא הוא דזבין עיבורא לכל עמא דארעא ואתו אחי יוסף וסגידו ליה על אפיא על ארעא:
area el apya el lyh wsgydw ywsp akhy wathw darea ema lkl eybwra dzbyn hwa area el dshlyT hwa wywsp
Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.

וחזא יוסף ית אחוהי ואשתמודענון וחשיב מה דמליל להון ומליל עמהון קשיא ואמר להון מנן אתיתון ואמרו מארעא דכנען למזבן עיבורא:
eybwra lmzbn dknen marea wamrw athythwn mnn lhwn wamr qshya emhwn wmlyl lhwn dmlyl mh wkhshyb washthmwdenwn akhwhy yth ywsp wkhza
Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, “Where did you come from?” They said, “From the land of Canaan, to buy food.”

ואשתמודע יוסף ית אחוהי ואנון לא אשתמודעיה:
ashthmwdeyh la wanwn akhwhy yth ywsp washthmwde
Joseph recognized his brothers, but they didn’t recognize him.
9
ודכיר יוסף ית חלמיא די חלים להון ואמר להון מאללין אתון למחזי ית בדקא דארעא אתיתון:
athythwn darea bdqa yth lmkhzy athwn mallyn lhwn wamr lhwn khlym dy khlmya yth ywsp wdkyr
Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land.”

ואמרו ליה לא רבוני ועבדיך עלו למזבן עיבורא:
eybwra lmzbn elw webdyk rbwny la lyh wamrw
They said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.
11
כלנא בני גברא חד נחנא כיוני אנחנא לא הוו עבדיך אלילי:
alyly ebdyk hww la ankhna kywny nkhna khd gbra bny klna
We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies.”
12
ואמר להון לא ארי בדקא דארעא אתיתון למחזי:
lmkhzy athythwn darea bdqa ary la lhwn wamr
He said to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!”
13
ואמרו תרין עסר עבדיך אחין אנחנא בני גברא חד בארעא דכנען והא זעירא עם אבונא יומא דין וחד ליתוהי:
lythwhy wkhd dyn ywma abwna em zeyra wha dknen barea khd gbra bny ankhna akhyn ebdyk esr thryn wamrw
They said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is today with our father, and one is no more.”

ואמר להון יוסף הוא די מלילית עמכון למימר מאלילי אתון:
athwn malyly lmymr emkwn mlylyth dy hwa ywsp lhwn wamr
Joseph said to them, “It is like I told you, saying, ‘You are spies!’
15
בדא תתבחנון חי פרעה אם תפקון מכא אלהין במתי אחוכון זעירא הכא:
hka zeyra akhwkwn bmthy alhyn mka thpqwn am preh khy ththbkhnwn bda
By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.

שלחו מנכון חד וידבר ית אחוכון ואתון התאסרון ויתבחנון פתגמיכון הקשוט אתון אמרין ואם לא חי פרעה ארי מאלילי אתון:
athwn malyly ary preh khy la wam amryn athwn hqshwT pthgmykwn wythbkhnwn hthasrwn wathwn akhwkwn yth wydbr khd mnkwn shlkhw
Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you, or else by the life of Pharaoh surely you are spies.”

וכנש יתהון למטרא תלתא יומין:
ywmyn thltha lmTra ythhwn wknsh
He put them all together into custody for three days.
18
ואמר להון יוסף ביומא תליתאה דא עיבידו וקיימו מן קדם יי אנא דחל:
dkhl ana yy qdm mn wqyymw eybydw da thlythah bywma ywsp lhwn wamr
Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this, and live, for I fear God.
19
אם כיוני אתון אחוכון חד יתאסר בבית מטרתכון ואתון איזילו אובילו עיבורא דחסיר בבתיכון:
bbthykwn dkhsyr eybwra awbylw ayzylw wathwn mTrthkwn bbyth ythasr khd akhwkwn athwn kywny am
If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.
20
וית אחוכון זעירא תיתון לותי ויהימנון פתגמיכון ולא תמותון ועבדו כן:
kn webdw thmwthwn wla pthgmykwn wyhymnwn lwthy thythwn zeyra akhwkwn wyth
Bring your youngest brother to me; so will your words be verified, and you won’t die.” They did so.

ואמרו גבר לאחוהי בקושטא חיבין אנחנא על אחונא די חזינא עקת נפשיה כד הוה מתחנן לנא ולא קבלנא מניה על כן אתא לותנא עקתא הדא:
hda eqtha lwthna atha kn el mnyh qblna wla lna mthkhnn hwh kd npshyh eqth khzyna dy akhwna el ankhna khybyn bqwshTa lakhwhy gbr wamrw
They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”

ואתיב ראובן יתהון למימר הלא אמרית לותכון למימר לא תחובון בעולימא ולא קבלתון ואף דמיה הא מתבעי:
mthbey ha dmyh wap qblthwn wla bewlyma thkhwbwn la lmymr lwthkwn amryth hla lmymr ythhwn rawbn wathyb
Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”

ואנון לא ידעון ארי שמיע יוסף ארי מתרגמן הוה ביניהון:
bynyhwn hwh mthrgmn ary ywsp shmye ary ydewn la wanwn
They didn’t know that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.
24
ואסתחר מעלויהון ובכא ותב לותהון ומליל עמהון ודבר מלותהון ית שמעון ואסר יתיה לעיניהון:
leynyhwn ythyh wasr shmewn yth mlwthhwn wdbr emhwn wmlyl lwthhwn wthb wbka melwyhwn wasthkhr
He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.

ופקיד יוסף ומלו ית מניהון עיבורא ולאתבא כספיהון גבר לסקיה ולמתן להון זודין לארחא ועבד להון כן:
kn lhwn webd larkha zwdyn lhwn wlmthn lsqyh gbr kspyhwn wlathba eybwra mnyhwn yth wmlw ywsp wpqyd
Then Joseph gave a command to fill their bags with grain, and to restore each man’s money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.

ונטלו ית עיבורהון על חמריהון ואזלו מתמן:
mthmn wazlw khmryhwn el eybwrhwn yth wnTlw
They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.
27
ופתח חד ית סקיה למתן כסתא לחמריה בבית מבתא וחזא ית כספיה והא הוא בפום טועניה:
Twenyh bpwm hwa wha kspyh yth wkhza mbtha bbyth lkhmryh kstha lmthn sqyh yth khd wpthkh
As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.

ואמר לאחוהי אתותב כספי ואף הא בטועני ונפק מדע לבהון ותוהו גבר לאחוהי למימר מה דא עבד יי לנא:
lna yy ebd da mh lmymr lakhwhy gbr wthwhw lbhwn mde wnpq bTweny ha wap kspy athwthb lakhwhy wamr
He said to his brothers, “My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!” Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, “What is this that God has done to us?”

ואתו לות יעקב אבוהון ארעא דכנען וחויאו ליה ית כל דארען יתהון למימר:
lmymr ythhwn daren kl yth lyh wkhwyaw dknen area abwhwn yeqb lwth wathw
They came to Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,

מליל גברא רבונא דארעא עמנא קשין ויהב יתנא כמאלילי ית ארעא:
area yth kmalyly ythna wyhb qshyn emna darea rbwna gbra mlyl
“The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country.
31
ואמרנא ליה כיוני אנחנא לא הוינא מאלילי:
malyly hwyna la ankhna kywny lyh wamrna
We said to him, ‘We are honest men. We are no spies.
32
תרין עסר אנחנא אחין בני אבונא חד ליתוהי וזעירא יומא דין עם אבונא בארעא דכנען:
dknen barea abwna em dyn ywma wzeyra lythwhy khd abwna bny akhyn ankhna esr thryn
We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is today with our father in the land of Canaan.’
33
ואמר לנא גברא רבונא דארעא בדא אדע ארי כיוני אתון אחוכון חד שבוקו לותי וית עיבורא דחסיר בבתיכון סיבו ואזילו:
wazylw sybw bbthykwn dkhsyr eybwra wyth lwthy shbwqw khd akhwkwn athwn kywny ary ade bda darea rbwna gbra lna wamr
The man, the lord of the land, said to us, ‘By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way.
34
ואיתיאו ית אחוכון זעירא לותי ואדע ארי לא מאלילי אתון ארי כיוני אתון ית אחוכון אתן לכון וית ארעא תעבדון בה סחורתא:
skhwrtha bh thebdwn area wyth lkwn athn akhwkwn yth athwn kywny ary athwn malyly la ary wade lwthy zeyra akhwkwn yth waythyaw
Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your brother to you, and you shall trade in the land.’”

והוה אנון מריקין סקיהון והא גבר צריר כספיה בסקיה וחזו ית צררי כספיהון אנון ואבוהון ודחילו:
wdkhylw wabwhwn anwn kspyhwn tsrry yth wkhzw bsqyh kspyh tsryr gbr wha sqyhwn mryqyn anwn whwh
As they emptied their sacks, behold, each man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were afraid.
36
ואמר להון יעקב אבוהון יתי אתכלתון יוסף ליתוהי ושמעון לא הוה הכא וית בנימן תדברון עלי הוו כלהון:
klhwn hww ely thdbrwn bnymn wyth hka hwh la wshmewn lythwhy ywsp athklthwn ythy abwhwn yeqb lhwn wamr
Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”
37
ואמר ראובן לות אבוהי למימר ית תרין בני תמית אם לא איתניה לותך הב יתיה על ידי ואנא אתבניה לך:
lk athbnyh wana ydy el ythyh hb lwthk aythnyh la am thmyth bny thryn yth lmymr abwhy lwth rawbn wamr
Reuben spoke to his father, saying, “Kill my two sons, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.”
38
ואמר לא יחות ברי עמכון ארי אחוהי מית והוא בלחודוהי אשתאר ויערעניה מותא בארחא די תהכון בה ותחתון ית שיבתי בדוונא לשאול:
lshawl bdwwna shybthy yth wthkhthwn bh thhkwn dy barkha mwtha wyerenyh ashthar blkhwdwhy whwa myth akhwhy ary emkwn bry ykhwth la wamr
He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”
