והוה מסוף תרתין שנין ופרעה חלם והא קאם על נהרא:
nhra el qam wha khlm wpreh shnyn thrthyn mswp whwh
At the end of two full years, Pharaoh dreamed, and behold, he stood by the river.
2
והא מן נהרא סלקן שבע תורן שפירן למחזי ופטימן בשר ורעין באחוה:
bakhwh wreyn bshr wpTymn lmkhzy shpyrn thwrn shbe slqn nhra mn wha
Behold, seven cattle came up out of the river. They were sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.

והא שבע תורן אחרנין סלקן בתריהון מן נהרא בישן למחזי וחסירן בשר וקמן לקבליהון דתורן על כיף נהרא:
nhra kyp el dthwrn lqblyhwn wqmn bshr wkhsyrn lmkhzy byshn nhra mn bthryhwn slqn akhrnyn thwrn shbe wha
Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.

ואכלן תורתא בישן למחזי וחסירן בשר ית שבע תורתא שפירן למחזי ופטימתא ואתער פרעה:
preh wather wpTymtha lmkhzy shpyrn thwrtha shbe yth bshr wkhsyrn lmkhzy byshn thwrtha wakln
The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.

ודמוך וחלם תנינות והא שבע שבליא סלקן בקניא חד פטימן וטבן:
wTbn pTymn khd bqnya slqn shblya shbe wha thnynwth wkhlm wdmwk
He slept and dreamed a second time; and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.

והא שבע שבליא לקין ושקיפן קדום צמחן בתריהון:
bthryhwn tsmkhn qdwm wshqypn lqyn shblya shbe wha
Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

ובלעא שבליא לקיתא ית שבע שבליא פטימתא ומליתא ואתער פרעה והא חלמא:
khlma wha preh wather wmlytha pTymtha shblya shbe yth lqytha shblya wblea
The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.

והוה בצפרא ומטרפא רוחיה ושלח וקרא ית כל חרשי מצרים וית כל חכימהא ואשתעי פרעה להון ית חלמיה ולית דפשר יתהון לפרעה:
lpreh ythhwn dpshr wlyth khlmyh yth lhwn preh washthey khkymha kl wyth mtsrym khrshy kl yth wqra wshlkh rwkhyh wmTrpa btspra whwh
In the morning, his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

ומליל רב שקי לפרעה למימר ית סרחני אנא מדכר יומא דין:
dyn ywma mdkr ana srkhny yth lmymr lpreh shqy rb wmlyl
Then the chief cup bearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today.

פרעה רגז על עבדוהי ויהב יתי במטרת בית רב קטוליא יתי וית רב נחתומי:
nkhthwmy rb wyth ythy qTwlya rb byth bmTrth ythy wyhb ebdwhy el rgz preh
Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, with the chief baker.

וחלמנא חלמא בליליא חד אנא והוא גבר כפשרן חלמיה חלמנא:
khlmna khlmyh kpshrn gbr whwa ana khd blylya khlma wkhlmna
We dreamed a dream in one night, he and I. Each man dreamed according to the interpretation of his dream.

ותמן עמנא עולם עבראה עבדא לרב קטוליא ואשתעינא ליה ופשר לנא ית חלמנא גבר כחלמיה פשר:
pshr kkhlmyh gbr khlmna yth lna wpshr lyh washtheyna qTwlya lrb ebda ebrah ewlm emna wthmn
There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. He interpreted to each man according to his dream.

והוה כמא די פשר לנא כן הוה יתי אתיב על שמושי ויתיה צלב:
tslb wythyh shmwshy el athyb ythy hwh kn lna pshr dy kma whwh
As he interpreted to us, so it was. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”

ושלח פרעה וקרא ית יוסף וארהיטוהי מן בית אסירי וספר ושני כסותיה ועל לות פרעה:
preh lwth wel kswthyh wshny wspr asyry byth mn warhyTwhy ywsp yth wqra preh wshlkh
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.

ואמר פרעה ליוסף חלמא חלמית ופשר לית ליה ואנא שמעית עלך למימר דאת שמע חלמא למפשר יתיה:
ythyh lmpshr khlma shme dath lmymr elk shmeyth wana lyh lyth wpshr khlmyth khlma lywsp preh wamr
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”

ואתיב יוסף ית פרעה למימר בר מן חכמתי אלהן מן קדם יי יתתב ית שלמא דפרעה:
dpreh shlma yth yththb yy qdm mn alhn khkmthy mn br lmymr preh yth ywsp wathyb
Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

ומליל פרעה ליוסף בחלמי הא אנא קאם על כיף נהרא:
nhra kyp el qam ana ha bkhlmy lywsp preh wmlyl
Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river;

והא מן נהרא סלקן שבע תורתא פטימן בשר ושפירן למחזי ורעין באחוה:
bakhwh wreyn lmkhzy wshpyrn bshr pTymn thwrtha shbe slqn nhra mn wha
and behold, seven fat and sleek cattle came up out of the river. They fed in the marsh grass;

והא שבע תורתא אחרנין סלקן בתריהון חסיכן ובישן למחזי לחדא וחסירן בשר לא חזתי כותהן בכל ארעא דמצרים לבישו:
lbyshw dmtsrym area bkl kwthhn khzthy la bshr wkhsyrn lkhda lmkhzy wbyshn khsykn bthryhwn slqn akhrnyn thwrtha shbe wha
and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
20
ואכלן תורתא חסיכתא ובישתא ית שבע תורתא קדמיתא פטימתא:
pTymtha qdmytha thwrtha shbe yth wbyshtha khsyktha thwrtha wakln
The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle;
21
ועלא למעיהן ולא אתידע ארי עלו למעיהן ומחזיהן ביש כד בקדמיתא ואתערית:
watheryth bqdmytha kd bysh wmkhzyhn lmeyhn elw ary athyde wla lmeyhn wela
and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22
וחזית בחלמי והא שבע שבליא סלקן בקניא חד מלין וטבן:
wTbn mlyn khd bqnya slqn shblya shbe wha bkhlmy wkhzyth
I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good;
23
והא שבע שבליא נצן לקין שקיפן קדום צמחן בתריהון:
bthryhwn tsmkhn qdwm shqypn lqyn ntsn shblya shbe wha
and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
24
ובלען שבליא לקיתא ית שבע שבליא טבתא ואמרית לחרשיא ולית די מחוי לי:
ly mkhwy dy wlyth lkhrshya wamryth Tbtha shblya shbe yth lqytha shblya wblen
The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.”

ואמר יוסף לפרעה חלמא פרעה חד הוא ית די יי עתיד למעבד חוי לפרעה:
lpreh khwy lmebd ethyd yy dy yth hwa khd preh khlma lpreh ywsp wamr
Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.

שבע תורתא טבתא שבע שנין אנון ושבע שבליא טבתא שבע שנין אנון חלמא חד הוא:
hwa khd khlma anwn shnyn shbe Tbtha shblya wshbe anwn shnyn shbe Tbtha thwrtha shbe
The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one.
27
ושבע תורתא חסיכתא ובישתא דסלקן בתריהון שבע שנין אנון ושבע שבליא לקיתא דשקיפן קדום יהוין שבע שני כפנא:
kpna shny shbe yhwyn qdwm dshqypn lqytha shblya wshbe anwn shnyn shbe bthryhwn dslqn wbyshtha khsyktha thwrtha wshbe
The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine.
28
הוא פתגמא די מלילית עם פרעה די יי עתיד למעבד אחזי לפרעה:
lpreh akhzy lmebd ethyd yy dy preh em mlylyth dy pthgma hwa
That is the thing which I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.
29
הא שבע שנין אתין סבעא רבא בכל ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area bkl rba sbea athyn shnyn shbe ha
Behold, seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt are coming.
30
ויקומון שבע שני כפנא בתריהן ויתנשי כל סבעא בארעא דמצרים וישיצי כפנא ית ארעא:
area yth kpna wyshytsy dmtsrym barea sbea kl wythnshy bthryhn kpna shny shbe wyqwmwn
Seven years of famine will arise after them, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,

ולא יתידע שובעא בארעא מן קדם כפנא ההוא דיהי בתר כן ארי תקיף הוא לחדא:
lkhda hwa thqyp ary kn bthr dyhy hhwa kpna qdm mn barea shwbea ythyde wla
and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous.
32
ועל דאתנית חלמא לפרעה תרתין זמנין ארי תקין פתגמא מן קדם יי ואוחי יי למעבדיה:
lmebdyh yy wawkhy yy qdm mn pthgma thqyn ary zmnyn thrthyn lpreh khlma dathnyth wel
The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33
וכען יחזי פרעה גבר סוכלתן וחכים ומניה על ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area el wmnyh wkhkym swklthn gbr preh ykhzy wken
“Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.

יעבד פרעה וימני מהימנין על ארעא ויזרז ית ארעא דמצרים בשבע שני שובעא :
shwbea shny bshbe dmtsrym area yth wyzrz area el mhymnyn wymny preh yebd
Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt’s produce in the seven plenteous years.
35
ויכנשון ית כל עיבור שניא טבן דאתין האלין ויצברון עיבורא תחות ידא דפרעה עיבורא בקירויא ויטרון:
wyTrwn bqyrwya eybwra dpreh yda thkhwth eybwra wytsbrwn halyn dathyn Tbn shnya eybwr kl yth wyknshwn
Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and store grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
36
ויהי עבורא גניז לארעא לשבע שני כפנא די תהוין בארעא דמצרים ולא תשתיצי עמא דארעא בכפנא:
bkpna darea ema thshthytsy wla dmtsrym barea thhwyn dy kpna shny lshbe larea gnyz ebwra wyhy
The food will be to supply the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; so that the land will not perish through the famine.”
37
ושפר פתגמא בעיני פרעה ובעיני כל עבדוהי:
ebdwhy kl wbeyny preh beyny pthgma wshpr
The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38
ואמר פרעה לעבדוהי הנשכח כדין גבר די רוח נבואה מן קדם יי ביה:
byh yy qdm mn nbwah rwkh dy gbr kdyn hnshkkh lebdwhy preh wamr
Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?”
39
ואמר פרעה ליוסף בתר דאודע יי יתך ית כל דא לית סכלתן וחכים כותך:
kwthk wkhkym sklthn lyth da kl yth ythk yy dawde bthr lywsp preh wamr
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one so discreet and wise as you.
40
את תהי ממנא על ביתי ועל מימרך יתזן כל עמי לחוד כרסי מלכותא הדין איהי יקיר מנך:
mnk yqyr ayhy hdyn mlkwtha krsy lkhwd emy kl ythzn mymrk wel bythy el mmna thhy ath
You shall be over my house. All my people will be ruled according to your word. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.”
41
ואמר פרעה ליוסף חזי מניתי יתך על כל ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area kl el ythk mnythy khzy lywsp preh wamr
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”
42
ואעדי פרעה ית עזקתיה מעל ידיה ויהב יתה על ידא דיוסף ואלביש יתיה לבושין דבוץ ושוי מניכא דדהבא על צואריה:
tswaryh el ddhba mnyka wshwy dbwts lbwshyn ythyh walbysh dywsp yda el ythh wyhb ydyh mel ezqthyh yth preh waedy
Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
43
וארכיב יתיה ברתכא תניתא די ליה ואכריזו קדמוהי דין אבא למלכא ומני יתיה על כל ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area kl el ythyh wmny lmlka aba dyn qdmwhy wakryzw lyh dy thnytha brthka ythyh warkyb
He made him ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt.
44
ואמר פרעה ליוסף אנא פרעה ובר מימרך לא ירים גבר ית ידיה למיחד זין וית רגליה למרכב על סוסיא בכל ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area bkl swsya el lmrkb rglyh wyth zyn lmykhd ydyh yth gbr yrym la mymrk wbr preh ana lywsp preh wamr
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh. Without you, no man shall lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”
45
וקרא פרעה שום יוסף גברא דמטמרן גלין ליה ויהב ליה ית אסנת בת פוטי פרע רבא דאון לאתתא ונפק יוסף על ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area el ywsp wnpq laththa dawn rba pre pwTy bth asnth yth lyh wyhb lyh glyn dmTmrn gbra ywsp shwm preh wqra
Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah. He gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

ויוסף בר תלתין שנין כד קם קדם פרעה מלכא דמצרים ונפק יוסף מן קדם פרעה ועבר בכל ארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym area bkl webr preh qdm mn ywsp wnpq dmtsrym mlka preh qdm qm kd shnyn thlthyn br wywsp
Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47
וכנשו דירי ארעא בשבע שני שובעא עיבורא לאוצרין:
lawtsryn eybwra shwbea shny bshbe area dyry wknshw
In the seven plenteous years the earth produced abundantly.
48
וכנש ית כל עיבור שבע שנין די הוו בארעא דמצרים ויהב עיבור בקרויא עיבור חקל קרתא די בסחרנהא יהב בגוה:
bgwh yhb bskhrnha dy qrtha khql eybwr bqrwya eybwr wyhb dmtsrym barea hww dy shnyn shbe eybwr kl yth wknsh
He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. He stored food in each city from the fields around that city.
49
וכנש יוסף עבורא כחלא דימא סגי לחדא עד די פסק לממני ארי לית מנין:
mnyn lyth ary lmmny psq dy ed lkhda sgy dyma kkhla ebwra ywsp wknsh
Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.
50
וליוסף אתיליד תרתין בנין עד לא עלת שתא דכפנא דילידת ליה אסנת בת פוטי פרע רבא דאון:
dawn rba pre pwTy bth asnth lyh dylydth dkpna shtha elth la ed bnyn thrthyn athylyd wlywsp
To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.
51
וקרא יוסף ית שום בוכרא מנשה ארי אנשיני יי ית כל עמלי וית כל בית אבא:
aba byth kl wyth emly kl yth yy anshyny ary mnshh bwkra shwm yth ywsp wqra
Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “For”, he said, “God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.”
52
וית שום תנינא קרא אפרים ארי אפשני יי בארע שעבודי:
shebwdy bare yy apshny ary aprym qra thnyna shwm wyth
The name of the second, he called Ephraim: “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
53
ושלימת שבע שני שובעא די הוה בארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym barea hwh dy shwbea shny shbe wshlymth
The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end.
54
ושריאת שבע שני כפנא למיעל כמא די אמר יוסף והוה כפנא בכל ארעתא ובכל ארעא דמצרים הוה לחמא:
lkhma hwh dmtsrym area wbkl aretha bkl kpna whwh ywsp amr dy kma lmyel kpna shny shbe wshryath
The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55
וכפנת כל ארעא דמצרים וצוח עמא לפרעה ללחמא ואמר פרעה לכל מצראי איזילו לות יוסף די יימר לכון תעבדון:
thebdwn lkwn yymr dy ywsp lwth ayzylw mtsray lkl preh wamr llkhma lpreh ema wtswkh dmtsrym area kl wkpnth
When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”

וכפנא הוה על כל אפי ארעא ופתח יוסף ית כל די בהון עיבורא וזבין למצרים ותקיף כפנא בארעא דמצרים:
dmtsrym barea kpna wthqyp lmtsrym wzbyn eybwra bhwn dy kl yth ywsp wpthkh area apy kl el hwh wkpna
The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
