ויוסף אתחת למצרים וזבניה פוטיפר רבא דפרעה רב קטוליא גבר מצראה מידא דערבאי די אחתוהי לתמן:
lthmn akhthwhy dy derbay myda mtsrah gbr qTwlya rb dpreh rba pwTypr wzbnyh lmtsrym athkhth wywsp
Joseph was brought down to Egypt. Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites that had brought him down there.

והוה מימרא דיי בסעדיה דיוסף והוה גבר מצלח והוה בבית רבוניה מצראה:
mtsrah rbwnyh bbyth whwh mtslkh gbr whwh dywsp bsedyh dyy mymra whwh
Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. He was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

וחזא רבוניה ארי מימרא דיי בסעדיה וכל די הוא עבד יי מצלח בידיה:
bydyh mtslkh yy ebd hwa dy wkl bsedyh dyy mymra ary rbwnyh wkhza
His master saw that Yahweh was with him, and that Yahweh made all that he did prosper in his hand.

ואשכח יוסף רחמין בעינוהי ושמש יתיה ומניה על ביתיה וכל די אית ליה מסר בידיה:
bydyh msr lyh ayth dy wkl bythyh el wmnyh ythyh wshmsh beynwhy rkhmyn ywsp washkkh
Joseph found favor in his sight. He ministered to him, and Potiphar made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

והוה מעדן דמני יתיה בביתיה ועל כל די אית ליה ובריך יי ית בית מצראה בדיל יוסף והוה ברכתא דיי בכל די אית ליה בביתא ובחקלא:
wbkhqla bbytha lyh ayth dy bkl dyy brktha whwh ywsp bdyl mtsrah byth yth yy wbryk lyh ayth dy kl wel bbythyh ythyh dmny medn whwh
From the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake. Yahweh’s blessing was on all that he had, in the house and in the field.

ושבק כל די ליה בידא דיוסף ולא ידע עמיה מדעם אלהין לחמא די הוא אכל והוה יוסף שפיר בריוא ויאי בחזוא:
bkhzwa wyay brywa shpyr ywsp whwh akl hwa dy lkhma alhyn mdem emyh yde wla dywsp byda lyh dy kl wshbq
He left all that he had in Joseph’s hand. He didn’t concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Joseph was well-built and handsome.

והוה בתר פתגמיא האלין וזקפת אתת רבוניה ית עינהא ליוסף ואמרת שכוב עמי:
emy shkwb wamrth lywsp eynha yth rbwnyh athth wzqpth halyn pthgmya bthr whwh
After these things, his master’s wife set her eyes on Joseph; and she said, “Lie with me.”

וסריב ואמר לות אתת רבוניה הא רבוני לא ידע עמי מה דבביתא וכל די אית ליה מסר בידי:
bydy msr lyh ayth dy wkl dbbytha mh emy yde la rbwny ha rbwnyh athth lwth wamr wsryb
But he refused, and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master doesn’t know what is with me in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand.

ליתוהי רב בביתא הדין מני ולא מנע מני מדעם אלהין יתיך בדיל את אתתיה ואכדין אעביד בישתא רבתא הדא ואחוב קדם יי:
yy qdm wakhwb hda rbtha byshtha aebyd wakdyn aththyh ath bdyl ythyk alhyn mdem mny mne wla mny hdyn bbytha rb lythwhy
No one is greater in this house than I am, and he has not kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

והוה כד מלילת עם יוסף יום יום ולא קביל מנה למשכב לותה למהוי עמה:
emh lmhwy lwthh lmshkb mnh qbyl wla ywm ywm ywsp em mlylth kd whwh
As she spoke to Joseph day by day, he didn’t listen to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

והוה ביומא הדין ועל לביתא למבדק בכתבי חשבניה ולית אנש מאנשי ביתא תמן בביתא:
bbytha thmn bytha manshy ansh wlyth khshbnyh bkthby lmbdq lbytha wel hdyn bywma whwh
About this time, he went into the house to do his work, and there were none of the men of the house inside.

ואחדתיה בלבושיה למימר שכוב עמי ושבקיה ללבושיה בידה וערק ונפק לשוקא:
lshwqa wnpq werq bydh llbwshyh wshbqyh emy shkwb lmymr blbwshyh wakhdthyh
She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” He left his garment in her hand, and ran outside.

והוה כד חזת ארי שבקיה ללבושיה בידה וערק לשוקא:
lshwqa werq bydh llbwshyh shbqyh ary khzth kd whwh
When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had run outside,

וקרת לאנשי ביתה ואמרת להון למימר חזו איתי לנא גברא עבראה לחיכא בנא על לותי למשכב עמי וקרית בקלא רבא:
rba bqla wqryth emy lmshkb lwthy el bna lkhyka ebrah gbra lna aythy khzw lmymr lhwn wamrth bythh lanshy wqrth
she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, “Behold, he has brought a Hebrew in to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice.

והוה כד שמע ארי ארימית קלי וקרית ושבקיה ללבושיה לותי וערק ונפק לשוקא:
lshwqa wnpq werq lwthy llbwshyh wshbqyh wqryth qly arymyth ary shme kd whwh
When he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment by me, and ran outside.”

ואחתתיה ללבושיה לותה עד דעל רבוניה לביתיה:
lbythyh rbwnyh del ed lwthh llbwshyh wakhththyh
She laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.
17
ומלילת עמיה כפתגמיא האלין למימר על לותי עבדא עבראה די איתיתא לנא לחיכא בי:
by lkhyka lna aythytha dy ebrah ebda lwthy el lmymr halyn kpthgmya emyh wmlylth
She spoke to him according to these words, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me,

והוה כד ארימית קלי וקרית ושבקיה ללבושיה לותי וערק לשוקא:
lshwqa werq lwthy llbwshyh wshbqyh wqryth qly arymyth kd whwh
and as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment by me, and ran outside.”

והוה כד שמע רבוניה ית פתגמי אתתיה די מלילת עמיה למימר כפתגמיא האלין עבד לי עבדך ותקף רגזיה:
rgzyh wthqp ebdk ly ebd halyn kpthgmya lmymr emyh mlylth dy aththyh pthgmy yth rbwnyh shme kd whwh
When his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, “This is what your servant did to me,” his wrath was kindled.

ונסיב רבוניה דיוסף יתיה ומניה לבית אסירי אתר די אסירי מלכא אסירין והוה תמן בבית אסירי:
asyry bbyth thmn whwh asyryn mlka asyry dy athr asyry lbyth wmnyh ythyh dywsp rbwnyh wnsyb
Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were bound, and he was there in custody.

והוה מימרא דיי בסעדיה דיוסף ונגד ליה חסדא ויהביה לרחמין בעיני רב בית אסירי:
asyry byth rb beyny lrkhmyn wyhbyh khsda lyh wngd dywsp bsedyh dyy mymra whwh
But Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

ומני רב בית אסירי בידא דיוסף ית כל אסיריא די בבית אסירי וית כל די עבדין תמן על מימריה הוה מתעבד:
mthebd hwh mymryh el thmn ebdyn dy kl wyth asyry bbyth dy asyrya kl yth dywsp byda asyry byth rb wmny
The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever they did there, he was responsible for it.

לית רב בית אסירי חזי ית כל סרחן בידיה בדי מימרא דיי בסעדיה ודי הוא עבד יי מצלח:
mtslkh yy ebd hwa wdy bsedyh dyy mymra bdy bydyh srkhn kl yth khzy asyry byth rb lyth
The keeper of the prison didn’t look after anything that was under his hand, because Yahweh was with him; and that which he did, Yahweh made it prosper.
