1
ואמר יי ליעקב קום סק לבית אל ותיב תמן ועבד תמן מדבחא לאלהא דאתגלי לך במערקך מן קדם עשו אחוך:
akhwk eshw qdm mn bmerqk lk dathgly lalha mdbkha thmn webd thmn wthyb al lbyth sq qwm lyeqb yy wamr
God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

ואמר יעקב לאנש ביתיה ולכל די עמיה אעדו ית טעות עממיא די ביניכון ואדכו ושנו כסותכון:
kswthkwn wshnw wadkw bynykwn dy emmya Tewth yth aedw emyh dy wlkl bythyh lansh yeqb wamr
Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.

ונקום ונסק לבית אל ואעבד תמן מדבחא לאלהא דקבל צלותי ביומא דעקתי והוה מימריה בסעדי בארחא די אזלית:
azlyth dy barkha bsedy mymryh whwh deqthy bywma tslwthy dqbl lalha mdbkha thmn waebd al lbyth wnsq wnqwm
Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”

ויהבו ליעקב ית כל טעות עממיא די בידיהון וית קדשיא די באודניהון וטמר יתהון יעקב תחות בטמא די עם שכם:
shkm em dy bTma thkhwth yeqb ythhwn wTmr bawdnyhwn dy qdshya wyth bydyhwn dy emmya Tewth kl yth lyeqb wyhbw
They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

ונטלו והות דחלא דיי על עממיא די בקרוי סחרניהון ולא רדפו בתר בני יעקב:
yeqb bny bthr rdpw wla skhrnyhwn bqrwy dy emmya el dyy dkhla whwth wnTlw
They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob.

ואתא יעקב ללוז די בארעא דכנען היא בית אל הוא וכל עמא די עמיה:
emyh dy ema wkl hwa al byth hya dknen barea dy llwz yeqb watha
So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.

ובנא תמן מדבחא וקרא לאתרא אל בית אל ארי תמן אתגלי ליה יי במערקיה מן קדם אחוהי:
akhwhy qdm mn bmerqyh yy lyh athgly thmn ary al byth al lathra wqra mdbkha thmn wbna
He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

ומיתת דבורה מנקתא דרבקה ואתקברת מלרע לבית אל בשפולי מישרא וקרא שמיה מישר בכיתא:
bkytha myshr shmyh wqra myshra bshpwly al lbyth mlre wathqbrth drbqh mnqtha dbwrh wmythth
Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bacuth.

ואתגלי יי ליעקב עוד במיתוהי מפדן ארם ובריך יתיה:
ythyh wbryk arm mpdn bmythwhy ewd lyeqb yy wathgly
God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.

ואמר ליה יי שמך יעקב לא יתקרי שמך עוד יעקב אלהין ישראל יהא שמך וקרא ית שמיה ישראל:
yshral shmyh yth wqra shmk yha yshral alhyn yeqb ewd shmk ythqry la yeqb shmk yy lyh wamr
God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel.” He named him Israel.

ואמר ליה יי אנא אל שדי פוש וסגי עם וכנשת שבטין יהא מנך ומלכין דשליטין בעממיא מנך יפקון:
ypqwn mnk bemmya dshlyTyn wmlkyn mnk yha shbTyn wknshth em wsgy pwsh shdy al ana yy lyh wamr
God said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.

וית ארעא די יהבית לאברהם וליצחק לך אתננה ולבנך בתרך אתן ית ארעא:
area yth athn bthrk wlbnk athnnh lk wlytskhq labrhm yhbyth dy area wyth
The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your offspring after you I will give the land.”

ואסתלק מעלוהי יקרא דיי באתרא די מליל עמיה:
emyh mlyl dy bathra dyy yqra melwhy wasthlq
God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

ואקים יעקב קמתא באתרא די מליל עמיה קמת אבנא ואסיך עלה נסוכין ואריק עלה משחא:
mshkha elh waryq nswkyn elh wasyk abna qmth emyh mlyl dy bathra qmtha yeqb waqym
Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.

וקרא יעקב ית שמא דאתרא די מליל עמיה תמן יי בית אל:
al byth yy thmn emyh mlyl dy dathra shma yth yeqb wqra
Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.

ונטלו מבית אל והוה עוד כרובת ארעא למיעל לאפרת וילידת רחל וקשיאת במילדה:
bmyldh wqshyath rkhl wylydth laprth lmyel area krwbth ewd whwh al mbyth wnTlw
They traveled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.

והוה בקשיותה במילדה ואמרת לה חיתא לא תדחלי ארי אף דין ליך בר:
br lyk dyn ap ary thdkhly la khytha lh wamrth bmyldh bqshywthh whwh
When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another son.”

והוה במפק נפשה ארי מיתת וקרת שמיה בר דוי ואבוהי קרא ליה בנימין:
bnymyn lyh qra wabwhy dwy br shmyh wqrth mythth ary npshh bmpq whwh
As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.

ומיתת רחל ואתקברת בארח אפרת היא בית לחם:
lkhm byth hya aprth barkh wathqbrth rkhl wmythth
Rachel died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (also called Bethlehem).

ואקים יעקב קמתא על קברתה היא קמת קברתא דרחל עד יומא דין:
dyn ywma ed drkhl qbrtha qmth hya qbrthh el qmtha yeqb waqym
Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

ונטל ישראל ופרס משכניה מלהלא למגדלא דעדר:
dedr lmgdla mlhla mshknyh wprs yshral wnTl
Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

והוה כד שרא ישראל בארעא ההיא ואזל ראובן ושכיב עם בלהה לחינתא דאבוהי ושמע ישראל והוו בני יעקב תרי עסר:
esr thry yeqb bny whww yshral wshme dabwhy lkhyntha blhh em wshkyb rawbn wazl hhya barea yshral shra kd whwh
While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

בני לאה בוכרא דיעקב ראובן ושמעון ולוי ויהודה ויששכר וזבלון:
wzblwn wyshshkr wyhwdh wlwy wshmewn rawbn dyeqb bwkra lah bny
The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

ובני בלהה אמתא דרחל דן ונפתלי:
wnpthly dn drkhl amtha blhh wbny
The sons of Bilhah (Rachel’s servant): Dan and Naphtali.

ובני זלפה אמתא דלאה גד ואשר אלין בני יעקב די אתילידן ליה בפדן ארם:
arm bpdn lyh athylydn dy yeqb bny alyn washr gd dlah amtha zlph wbny
The sons of Zilpah (Leah’s servant): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

ואתא יעקב לות יצחק אבוהי ממרא קרית ארבע היא חברון די דר תמן אברהם ויצחק:
wytskhq abrhm thmn dr dy khbrwn hya arbe qryth mmra abwhy ytskhq lwth yeqb watha
Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.

והוו יומי יצחק מאה ותמנן שנין:
shnyn wthmnn mah ytskhq ywmy whww
The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.
