ונפקת דינה בת לאה די ילידת ליעקב למחזי בבנת ארעא:

Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

וחזא יתה שכם בר חמור חיואה רבא דארעא ודבר יתה ושכיב יתה ועניה:
wkhza ythh shkm br khmwr khywah rba darea wdbr ythh wshkyb ythh wenyh
Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. He took her, lay with her, and humbled her.

ואתרעיאת נפשיה בדינה בת יעקב ורחים ית עולמתא ומליל על לבא דעולמתא:
wathreyath npshyh bdynh bth yeqb wrkhym yth ewlmtha wmlyl el lba dewlmtha
His soul joined to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young lady, and spoke kindly to the young lady.

ואמר שכם לחמור אבוהי למימר סב לי ית עולמתא הדא לאנתו:
wamr shkm lkhmwr abwhy lmymr sb ly yth ewlmtha hda lanthw
Shechem spoke to his father, Hamor, saying, “Get me this young lady as a wife.”

ויעקב שמע ארי סאיב ית דינה ברתיה ובנוהי הוו עם גיתוהי בחקלא ושתיק יעקב עד מיתיהון:
wyeqb shme ary sayb yth dynh brthyh wbnwhy hww em gythwhy bkhqla wshthyq yeqb ed mythyhwn
Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. Jacob held his peace until they came.

ונפק חמור אבוהי דשכם לות יעקב למללא עמיה:
wnpq khmwr abwhy dshkm lwth yeqb lmlla emyh
Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to talk with him.

ובני יעקב עלו מן חקלא כד שמעו ואתנסיסו גבריא ותקיף להון לחדא ארי קלנא עבד בישראל למשכב עם בת יעקב וכן לא כשר לאתעבדא:
wbny yeqb elw mn khqla kd shmew wathnsysw gbrya wthqyp lhwn lkhda ary qlna ebd byshral lmshkb em bth yeqb wkn la kshr lathebda
The sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had done folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that ought not to be done.

ומליל חמור עמהון למימר שכם ברי אתרעיאת נפשיה בברתכון הבו כען יתה ליה לאנתו:
wmlyl khmwr emhwn lmymr shkm bry athreyath npshyh bbrthkwn hbw ken ythh lyh lanthw
Hamor talked with them, saying, “The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.

ותתחתנון בנא בנתיכון תתנון לנא וית בנתנא תסבון לכון:
wththkhthnwn bna bnthykwn ththnwn lna wyth bnthna thsbwn lkwn
Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.
10
ועמנא תתבון וארעא תהי קדמיכון תיבו ועבידו בה סחורתא ואחסינו בה:
wemna ththbwn warea thhy qdmykwn thybw webydw bh skhwrtha wakhsynw bh
You shall dwell with us, and the land will be before you. Live and trade in it, and get possessions in it.”

ואמר שכם לאבוהא ולאחהא אשכח רחמין בעיניכון ודי תימרון לי אתן:
wamr shkm labwha wlakhha ashkkh rkhmyn beynykwn wdy thymrwn ly athn
Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you will tell me I will give.

אסגו עלי לחדא מוהרין ומתנן ואתן כמא די תימרון לי והבו לי ית עולמתא לאנתו:
asgw ely lkhda mwhryn wmthnn wathn kma dy thymrwn ly whbw ly yth ewlmtha lanthw
Ask me a great amount for a dowry, and I will give whatever you ask of me, but give me the young lady as a wife.”

ואתיבו בני יעקב ית שכם וית חמור אבוהי בחכמתא ומלילו די סאב ית דינה אחתהון:
wathybw bny yeqb yth shkm wyth khmwr abwhy bkhkmtha wmlylw dy sab yth dynh akhthhwn
The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit when they spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,

ואמרו להון לא נכול למעבד פתגמא הדין למתן ית אחתנא לגבר די ליה ערלתא ארי חסודא היא לנא:
wamrw lhwn la nkwl lmebd pthgma hdyn lmthn yth akhthna lgbr dy lyh erltha ary khswda hya lna
and said to them, “We can’t do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised; for that is a reproach to us.

ברם בדא נתפס לכון אם תהוון כותנא למגזר לכון כל דכורא:
brm bda nthps lkwn am thhwwn kwthna lmgzr lkwn kl dkwra
Only on this condition will we consent to you. If you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised,
16
ונתן ית בנתנא לכון וית בנתיכון נסב לנא ונתוב עמכון ונהי לעמא חד:
wnthn yth bnthna lkwn wyth bnthykwn nsb lna wnthwb emkwn wnhy lema khd
then will we give our daughters to you; and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17
ואם לא תקבלון מננא למגזר ונדבר ית ברתנא ונזיל:
wam la thqblwn mnna lmgzr wndbr yth brthna wnzyl
But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our sister, and we will be gone.”
18
ושפרו פתגמיהון בעיני חמור ובעיני שכם בר חמור:
wshprw pthgmyhwn beyny khmwr wbeyny shkm br khmwr
Their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son.
19
ולא אוחר עולימא למעבד פתגמא ארי אתרעי בבת יעקב והוא יקיר מכל בית אבוהי:
wla awkhr ewlyma lmebd pthgma ary athrey bbth yeqb whwa yqyr mkl byth abwhy
The young man didn’t wait to do this thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, and he was honored above all the house of his father.

ואתא חמור ושכם בריה לתרע קרתהון ומלילו עם אנשי קרתהון למימר:
watha khmwr wshkm bryh lthre qrthhwn wmlylw em anshy qrthhwn lmymr
Hamor and Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,

גבריא האלין שלמין אנון עמנא ויתיבון בארעא ויעבדון בה סחורתא וארעא הא פתיות ידין קדמיהון ית בנתיהון נסב לנא לנשין וית בנתנא נתן להון:
gbrya halyn shlmyn anwn emna wythybwn barea wyebdwn bh skhwrtha warea ha pthywth ydyn qdmyhwn yth bnthyhwn nsb lna lnshyn wyth bnthna nthn lhwn
“These men are peaceful with us. Therefore let them live in the land and trade in it. For behold, the land is large enough for them. Let’s take their daughters to us for wives, and let’s give them our daughters.

ברם בדא יתפסון לנא גובריא למתב עמנא למהוי לעמא חד למגזר לנא כל דכורא כמא די אנון גזירין:
brm bda ythpswn lna gwbrya lmthb emna lmhwy lema khd lmgzr lna kl dkwra kma dy anwn gzyryn
Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.

גיתיהון וקנינהון וכל בעירהון הלא דילנא אנון ברם נתפס להון ויתיבון עמנא:
gythyhwn wqnynhwn wkl beyrhwn hla dylna anwn brm nthps lhwn wythybwn emna
Won’t their livestock and their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let’s give our consent to them, and they will dwell with us.”

וקבילו מן חמור ומן שכם בריה כל נפקי תרע קרתיה וגזרו כל דכורא כל נפקי תרע קרתיה:
wqbylw mn khmwr wmn shkm bryh kl npqy thre qrthyh wgzrw kl dkwra kl npqy thre qrthyh
All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor, and to Shechem his son; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.

והוה ביומא תליתאה כד תקיפו עליהון כאביהון ונסיבו תרין בני יעקב שמעון ולוי אחי דינה גבר חרביה ועלו על קרתא דיתבון לרחצן וקטלו כל דכורא:
whwh bywma thlythah kd thqypw elyhwn kabyhwn wnsybw thryn bny yeqb shmewn wlwy akhy dynh gbr khrbyh welw el qrtha dythbwn lrkhtsn wqTlw kl dkwra
On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.

וית חמור וית שכם בריה קטלו לפתגם דחרב ודברו ית דינה מבית שכם ונפקו:
wyth khmwr wyth shkm bryh qTlw lpthgm dkhrb wdbrw yth dynh mbyth shkm wnpqw
They killed Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went away.

בני יעקב עלו לחלצא קטיליא ובזו קרתא די סאיבו אחתהון:
bny yeqb elw lkhltsa qTylya wbzw qrtha dy saybw akhthhwn
Jacob’s sons came on the dead, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28
ית ענהון וית תורהון וית חמריהון וית די בקרתא וית די בחקלא בזו :
yth enhwn wyth thwrhwn wyth khmryhwn wyth dy bqrtha wyth dy bkhqla bzw
They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, that which was in the city, that which was in the field,

וית כל נכסיהון וית כל טפלהון וית נשיהון שבו ובזו וית כל די בביתא:
wyth kl nksyhwn wyth kl Tplhwn wyth nshyhwn shbw wbzw wyth kl dy bbytha
and all their wealth. They took captive all their little ones and their wives, and took as plunder everything that was in the house.
30
ואמר יעקב לשמעון וללוי עכרתון יתי למתן דבבו ביננא ובין יתבי ארעא בכנענאה ובפרזאה ואנא עם דמנין ויתכנשון עלי וימחנוני ואשתצי אנא ואנש ביתי:
wamr yeqb lshmewn wllwy ekrthwn ythy lmthn dbbw bynna wbyn ythby area bknenah wbprzah wana em dmnyn wythknshwn ely wymkhnwny washthtsy ana wansh bythy
Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.”

ואמרו הכנפקת ברא יתעבד לאחתנא:
wamrw hknpqth bra ythebd lakhthna
They said, “Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?”
