1
ונפקת דינה בת לאה די ילידת ליעקב למחזי בבנת ארעא:
area bbnth lmkhzy lyeqb ylydth dy lah bth dynh wnpqth
Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

וחזא יתה שכם בר חמור חיואה רבא דארעא ודבר יתה ושכיב יתה ועניה:
wenyh ythh wshkyb ythh wdbr darea rba khywah khmwr br shkm ythh wkhza
Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. He took her, lay with her, and humbled her.

ואתרעיאת נפשיה בדינה בת יעקב ורחים ית עולמתא ומליל על לבא דעולמתא:
dewlmtha lba el wmlyl ewlmtha yth wrkhym yeqb bth bdynh npshyh wathreyath
His soul joined to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young lady, and spoke kindly to the young lady.

ואמר שכם לחמור אבוהי למימר סב לי ית עולמתא הדא לאנתו:
lanthw hda ewlmtha yth ly sb lmymr abwhy lkhmwr shkm wamr
Shechem spoke to his father, Hamor, saying, “Get me this young lady as a wife.”

ויעקב שמע ארי סאיב ית דינה ברתיה ובנוהי הוו עם גיתוהי בחקלא ושתיק יעקב עד מיתיהון:
mythyhwn ed yeqb wshthyq bkhqla gythwhy em hww wbnwhy brthyh dynh yth sayb ary shme wyeqb
Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. Jacob held his peace until they came.

ונפק חמור אבוהי דשכם לות יעקב למללא עמיה:
emyh lmlla yeqb lwth dshkm abwhy khmwr wnpq
Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to talk with him.

ובני יעקב עלו מן חקלא כד שמעו ואתנסיסו גבריא ותקיף להון לחדא ארי קלנא עבד בישראל למשכב עם בת יעקב וכן לא כשר לאתעבדא:
lathebda kshr la wkn yeqb bth em lmshkb byshral ebd qlna ary lkhda lhwn wthqyp gbrya wathnsysw shmew kd khqla mn elw yeqb wbny
The sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had done folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that ought not to be done.

ומליל חמור עמהון למימר שכם ברי אתרעיאת נפשיה בברתכון הבו כען יתה ליה לאנתו:
lanthw lyh ythh ken hbw bbrthkwn npshyh athreyath bry shkm lmymr emhwn khmwr wmlyl
Hamor talked with them, saying, “The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.

ותתחתנון בנא בנתיכון תתנון לנא וית בנתנא תסבון לכון:
lkwn thsbwn bnthna wyth lna ththnwn bnthykwn bna wththkhthnwn
Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.
10
ועמנא תתבון וארעא תהי קדמיכון תיבו ועבידו בה סחורתא ואחסינו בה:
bh wakhsynw skhwrtha bh webydw thybw qdmykwn thhy warea ththbwn wemna
You shall dwell with us, and the land will be before you. Live and trade in it, and get possessions in it.”

ואמר שכם לאבוהא ולאחהא אשכח רחמין בעיניכון ודי תימרון לי אתן:
athn ly thymrwn wdy beynykwn rkhmyn ashkkh wlakhha labwha shkm wamr
Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you will tell me I will give.

אסגו עלי לחדא מוהרין ומתנן ואתן כמא די תימרון לי והבו לי ית עולמתא לאנתו:
lanthw ewlmtha yth ly whbw ly thymrwn dy kma wathn wmthnn mwhryn lkhda ely asgw
Ask me a great amount for a dowry, and I will give whatever you ask of me, but give me the young lady as a wife.”

ואתיבו בני יעקב ית שכם וית חמור אבוהי בחכמתא ומלילו די סאב ית דינה אחתהון:
akhthhwn dynh yth sab dy wmlylw bkhkmtha abwhy khmwr wyth shkm yth yeqb bny wathybw
The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit when they spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,

ואמרו להון לא נכול למעבד פתגמא הדין למתן ית אחתנא לגבר די ליה ערלתא ארי חסודא היא לנא:
lna hya khswda ary erltha lyh dy lgbr akhthna yth lmthn hdyn pthgma lmebd nkwl la lhwn wamrw
and said to them, “We can’t do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised; for that is a reproach to us.

ברם בדא נתפס לכון אם תהוון כותנא למגזר לכון כל דכורא:
dkwra kl lkwn lmgzr kwthna thhwwn am lkwn nthps bda brm
Only on this condition will we consent to you. If you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised,
16
ונתן ית בנתנא לכון וית בנתיכון נסב לנא ונתוב עמכון ונהי לעמא חד:
khd lema wnhy emkwn wnthwb lna nsb bnthykwn wyth lkwn bnthna yth wnthn
then will we give our daughters to you; and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

ואם לא תקבלון מננא למגזר ונדבר ית ברתנא ונזיל:
wnzyl brthna yth wndbr lmgzr mnna thqblwn la wam
But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our sister, and we will be gone.”
18
ושפרו פתגמיהון בעיני חמור ובעיני שכם בר חמור:
khmwr br shkm wbeyny khmwr beyny pthgmyhwn wshprw
Their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son.

ולא אוחר עולימא למעבד פתגמא ארי אתרעי בבת יעקב והוא יקיר מכל בית אבוהי:
abwhy byth mkl yqyr whwa yeqb bbth athrey ary pthgma lmebd ewlyma awkhr wla
The young man didn’t wait to do this thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, and he was honored above all the house of his father.

ואתא חמור ושכם בריה לתרע קרתהון ומלילו עם אנשי קרתהון למימר:
lmymr qrthhwn anshy em wmlylw qrthhwn lthre bryh wshkm khmwr watha
Hamor and Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,

גבריא האלין שלמין אנון עמנא ויתיבון בארעא ויעבדון בה סחורתא וארעא הא פתיות ידין קדמיהון ית בנתיהון נסב לנא לנשין וית בנתנא נתן להון:
lhwn nthn bnthna wyth lnshyn lna nsb bnthyhwn yth qdmyhwn ydyn pthywth ha warea skhwrtha bh wyebdwn barea wythybwn emna anwn shlmyn halyn gbrya
“These men are peaceful with us. Therefore let them live in the land and trade in it. For behold, the land is large enough for them. Let’s take their daughters to us for wives, and let’s give them our daughters.

ברם בדא יתפסון לנא גובריא למתב עמנא למהוי לעמא חד למגזר לנא כל דכורא כמא די אנון גזירין:
gzyryn anwn dy kma dkwra kl lna lmgzr khd lema lmhwy emna lmthb gwbrya lna ythpswn bda brm
Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.

גיתיהון וקנינהון וכל בעירהון הלא דילנא אנון ברם נתפס להון ויתיבון עמנא:
emna wythybwn lhwn nthps brm anwn dylna hla beyrhwn wkl wqnynhwn gythyhwn
Won’t their livestock and their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let’s give our consent to them, and they will dwell with us.”

וקבילו מן חמור ומן שכם בריה כל נפקי תרע קרתיה וגזרו כל דכורא כל נפקי תרע קרתיה:
qrthyh thre npqy kl dkwra kl wgzrw qrthyh thre npqy kl bryh shkm wmn khmwr mn wqbylw
All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor, and to Shechem his son; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.

והוה ביומא תליתאה כד תקיפו עליהון כאביהון ונסיבו תרין בני יעקב שמעון ולוי אחי דינה גבר חרביה ועלו על קרתא דיתבון לרחצן וקטלו כל דכורא:
dkwra kl wqTlw lrkhtsn dythbwn qrtha el welw khrbyh gbr dynh akhy wlwy shmewn yeqb bny thryn wnsybw kabyhwn elyhwn thqypw kd thlythah bywma whwh
On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.

וית חמור וית שכם בריה קטלו לפתגם דחרב ודברו ית דינה מבית שכם ונפקו:
wnpqw shkm mbyth dynh yth wdbrw dkhrb lpthgm qTlw bryh shkm wyth khmwr wyth
They killed Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went away.

בני יעקב עלו לחלצא קטיליא ובזו קרתא די סאיבו אחתהון:
akhthhwn saybw dy qrtha wbzw qTylya lkhltsa elw yeqb bny
Jacob’s sons came on the dead, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28
ית ענהון וית תורהון וית חמריהון וית די בקרתא וית די בחקלא בזו :
bzw bkhqla dy wyth bqrtha dy wyth khmryhwn wyth thwrhwn wyth enhwn yth
They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, that which was in the city, that which was in the field,

וית כל נכסיהון וית כל טפלהון וית נשיהון שבו ובזו וית כל די בביתא:
bbytha dy kl wyth wbzw shbw nshyhwn wyth Tplhwn kl wyth nksyhwn kl wyth
and all their wealth. They took captive all their little ones and their wives, and took as plunder everything that was in the house.

ואמר יעקב לשמעון וללוי עכרתון יתי למתן דבבו ביננא ובין יתבי ארעא בכנענאה ובפרזאה ואנא עם דמנין ויתכנשון עלי וימחנוני ואשתצי אנא ואנש ביתי:
bythy wansh ana washthtsy wymkhnwny ely wythknshwn dmnyn em wana wbprzah bknenah area ythby wbyn bynna dbbw lmthn ythy ekrthwn wllwy lshmewn yeqb wamr
Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.”
