וחזת רחל ארי לא ילידת ליעקב וקניאת רחל באחתה ואמרת ליעקב הב לי בנין ואם לא מיתא אנא:

When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I will die.”

ותקיף רוגזא דיעקב ברחל ואמר הא מני את בעיא הלא מן קדם יי תבעין די מנע מניך ולדא דמעין:
wthqyp rwgza dyeqb brkhl wamr ha mny ath beya hla mn qdm yy thbeyn dy mne mnyk wlda dmeyn
Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in God’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

ואמרת הא אמתי בלהה עול לותה ותליד ואנא ארבי ואתבני אף אנא מנה:
wamrth ha amthy blhh ewl lwthh wthlyd wana arby wathbny ap ana mnh
She said, “Behold, my maid Bilhah. Go in to her, that she may bear on my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.”

ויהבת ליה ית בלהה אמתה לאנתו ועל לותה יעקב:
wyhbth lyh yth blhh amthh lanthw wel lwthh yeqb
She gave him Bilhah her servant as wife, and Jacob went in to her.

ועדיאת בלהה וילידת ליעקב בר:
wedyath blhh wylydth lyeqb br
Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son.
6
ואמרת רחל דנני יי ואף קביל צלותי ויהב לי בר על כן קרת שמיה דן:
wamrth rkhl dnny yy wap qbyl tslwthy wyhb ly br el kn qrth shmyh dn
Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.

ועדיאת עוד וילידת בלהה אמתא דרחל בר תנין ליעקב:
wedyath ewd wylydth blhh amtha drkhl br thnyn lyeqb
Bilhah, Rachel’s servant, conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son.

ואמרת רחל קביל יי בעותי באתחננותי בצלותי חמידת דיהי לי ולד כאחתי אף אתיהיב לי וקרת שמיה נפתלי:
wamrth rkhl qbyl yy bewthy bathkhnnwthy btslwthy khmydth dyhy ly wld kakhthy ap athyhyb ly wqrth shmyh npthly
Rachel said, “I have wrestled with my sister with mighty wrestlings, and have prevailed.” She named him Naphtali.

וחזת לאה ארי קמת מלמילד ודברת ית זלפה אמתה ויהבת יתה ליעקב לאנתו:
wkhzth lah ary qmth mlmyld wdbrth yth zlph amthh wyhbth ythh lyeqb lanthw
When Leah saw that she had finished bearing, she took Zilpah, her servant, and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

וילידת זלפה אמתא דלאה ליעקב בר:
wylydth zlph amtha dlah lyeqb br
Zilpah, Leah’s servant, bore Jacob a son.
11
ואמרת לאה אתא גד וקרת ית שמיה גד:
wamrth lah atha gd wqrth yth shmyh gd
Leah said, “How fortunate!” She named him Gad.

וילידת זלפה אמתא דלאה בר תנין ליעקב:
wylydth zlph amtha dlah br thnyn lyeqb
Zilpah, Leah’s servant, bore Jacob a second son.
13
ואמרת לאה תשבחתא הות לי ארי בכן ישבחנני נשיא וקרת ית שמיה אשר:
wamrth lah thshbkhtha hwth ly ary bkn yshbkhnny nshya wqrth yth shmyh ashr
Leah said, “Happy am I, for the daughters will call me happy.” She named him Asher.

ואזל ראובן ביומי חצד חטין ואשכח יברוחין בחקלא ואיתי יתהון ללאה אמיה ואמרת רחל ללאה הבי כען לי מיברוחי דבריך:
wazl rawbn bywmy khtsd khTyn washkkh ybrwkhyn bkhqla waythy ythhwn llah amyh wamrth rkhl llah hby ken ly mybrwkhy dbryk
Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother, Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

ואמרת לה הזעיר דדברת ית בעלי ותסבין אף ית יברוחי דברי ואמרת רחל בכן ישכוב עמך בליליא חלף יברוחי דבריך:
wamrth lh hzeyr ddbrth yth bely wthsbyn ap yth ybrwkhy dbry wamrth rkhl bkn yshkwb emk blylya khlp ybrwkhy dbryk
Leah said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes, also?” Rachel said, “Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”

ואתא יעקב מן חקלא ברמשא ונפקת לאה לקדמותיה ואמרת לותי תיעול ארי מיגר אגרתיך ביברוחי דברי ושכיב עמה בליליא הוא:
watha yeqb mn khqla brmsha wnpqth lah lqdmwthyh wamrth lwthy thyewl ary mygr agrthyk bybrwkhy dbry wshkyb emh blylya hwa
Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, “You must come in to me; for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” He lay with her that night.

וקביל יי צלותה דלאה ועדיאת וילידת ליעקב בר חמישאי:
wqbyl yy tslwthh dlah wedyath wylydth lyeqb br khmyshay
God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son.
18
ואמרת לאה יהב יי אגרי דיהבית אמתי לבעלי וקרת שמיה יששכר:
wamrth lah yhb yy agry dyhbyth amthy lbely wqrth shmyh yshshkr
Leah said, “God has given me my hire, because I gave my servant to my husband.” She named him Issachar.

ועדיאת עוד לאה וילידת בר שתיתאי ליעקב:
wedyath ewd lah wylydth br shthythay lyeqb
Leah conceived again, and bore a sixth son to Jacob.
20
ואמרת לאה יהב יי יתיה לי חלק טב הדא זמנא יהי מדוריה דבעלי לותי ארי ילידית ליה שתא בנין וקרת ית שמיה זבלון:
wamrth lah yhb yy ythyh ly khlq Tb hda zmna yhy mdwryh dbely lwthy ary ylydyth lyh shtha bnyn wqrth yth shmyh zblwn
Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good dowry. Now my husband will live with me, because I have borne him six sons.” She named him Zebulun.

ובתר כן ילידת ברתא וקרת ית שמה דינה:
wbthr kn ylydth brtha wqrth yth shmh dynh
Afterwards, she bore a daughter, and named her Dinah.
22
ועל דוכרנא דרחל קדם יי וקביל צלותה יי ויהב לה עדוי:
wel dwkrna drkhl qdm yy wqbyl tslwthh yy wyhb lh edwy
God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.
23
ועדיאת וילידת בר ואמרת כנש יי ית חסודי:
wedyath wylydth br wamrth knsh yy yth khswdy
She conceived, bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.”
24
וקרת ית שמיה יוסף למימר יוסף יי לי בר אחרן:
wqrth yth shmyh ywsp lmymr ywsp yy ly br akhrn
She named him Joseph, saying, “May Yahweh add another son to me.”
25
והוה כד ילידת רחל ית יוסף ואמר יעקב ללבן שלחני ואיהך לאתרי ולארעי:
whwh kd ylydth rkhl yth ywsp wamr yeqb llbn shlkhny wayhk lathry wlarey
When Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own place, and to my country.

הב ית נשי וית בני די פלחית יתך בהן ואזיל ארי את ידעת ית פלחני דפלחתך:
hb yth nshy wyth bny dy plkhyth ythk bhn wazyl ary ath ydeth yth plkhny dplkhthk
Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service with which I have served you.”

ואמר ליה לבן אם כען אשכחית רחמין קדמך נסיתי וברכני יי בדילך:
wamr lyh lbn am ken ashkkhyth rkhmyn qdmk nsythy wbrkny yy bdylk
Laban said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, stay here, for I have divined that Yahweh has blessed me for your sake.”

ואמר פריש אגרך עלי ואתן:
wamr prysh agrk ely wathn
He said, “Appoint me your wages, and I will give it.”
29
ואמר ליה את ידעת ית דפלחתך וית דהוה בעירך עמי:
wamr lyh ath ydeth yth dplkhthk wyth dhwh beyrk emy
Jacob said to him, “You know how I have served you, and how your livestock have fared with me.
30
ארי זעיר די הוה לך קדמי ותקיף למסגי ובריך יי יתך בדילי וכען אימתי אעביד אף אנא לביתי:
ary zeyr dy hwh lk qdmy wthqyp lmsgy wbryk yy ythk bdyly wken aymthy aebyd ap ana lbythy
For it was little which you had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude. Yahweh has blessed you wherever I turned. Now when will I provide for my own house also?”

ואמר מה אתן לך ואמר יעקב לא תתן לי מדעם אם תעבד לי פתגמא הדין אתוב ארעי ענך אטר:
wamr mh athn lk wamr yeqb la ththn ly mdem am thebd ly pthgma hdyn athwb arey enk aTr
Laban said, “What shall I give you?” Jacob said, “You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it.

אעבר בכל ענך יומא דין העדי מתמן כל אמר נמור ורקוע וכל אמר שחום באמריא ורקוע ונמור בעזיא ויהי אגרי:
aebr bkl enk ywma dyn hedy mthmn kl amr nmwr wrqwe wkl amr shkhwm bamrya wrqwe wnmwr bezya wyhy agry
I will pass through all your flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. This will be my hire.

ותסהד בי זכותי ביום דמחר ארי תיעול על אגרי קדמך כל די ליתוהי נמור ורקוע בעזיא ושחום באמריא גנובא הוא עמי:
wthshd by zkwthy bywm dmkhr ary thyewl el agry qdmk kl dy lythwhy nmwr wrqwe bezya wshkhwm bamrya gnwba hwa emy
So my righteousness will answer for me hereafter, when you come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be considered stolen.”

ואמר לבן ברם לוי יהי כפתגמך:
wamr lbn brm lwy yhy kpthgmk
Laban said, “Behold, let it be according to your word.”
35
ואעדי ביומא ההוא ית תישיא רגוליא ורקועיא וית כל עזיא נמורתא ורקועתא כל די חור ביה וכל דשחום באמריא ויהב ביד בנוהי:
waedy bywma hhwa yth thyshya rgwlya wrqweya wyth kl ezya nmwrtha wrqwetha kl dy khwr byh wkl dshkhwm bamrya wyhb byd bnwhy
That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
36
ושוי מהלך תלתא יומין בינוהי ובין יעקב ויעקב רעי ית ענא דלבן דאשתארן:
wshwy mhlk thltha ywmyn bynwhy wbyn yeqb wyeqb rey yth ena dlbn dashtharn
He set three days’ journey between himself and Jacob, and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks.

ונסיב ליה יעקב חוטרין דלבן רטיבין דדלוז ודדלוף וקליף בהון קלפין חורין קלוף חור די על חוטריא:
wnsyb lyh yeqb khwTryn dlbn rTybyn ddlwz wddlwp wqlyp bhwn qlpyn khwryn qlwp khwr dy el khwTrya
Jacob took to himself rods of fresh poplar, almond, and plane tree, peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

ודעיץ ית חוטריא די קליף ברהטיא אתר בית שקיא דמיא אתר דאתן ענא למשתי לקבלהון דענא ומתיחמן במיתיהון למשתי:
wdeyts yth khwTrya dy qlyp brhTya athr byth shqya dmya athr dathn ena lmshthy lqblhwn dena wmthykhmn bmythyhwn lmshthy
He set the rods which he had peeled opposite the flocks in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink. They conceived when they came to drink.
39
ואתיחמא ענא בחוטריא וילידא ענא רגולין נמורין ורקועין:
wathykhma ena bkhwTrya wylyda ena rgwlyn nmwryn wrqweyn
The flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks produced streaked, speckled, and spotted.
40
ואמריא אפרש יעקב ויהב בריש ענא כל דרגול וכל דשחום בענא דלבן ושוי ליה עדרין בלחודוהי ולא ערבנון עם ענא דלבן:
wamrya aprsh yeqb wyhb brysh ena kl drgwl wkl dshkhwm bena dlbn wshwy lyh edryn blkhwdwhy wla erbnwn em ena dlbn
Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the streaked and all the black in Laban’s flock. He put his own droves apart, and didn’t put them into Laban’s flock.
41
והוי בכל עדן דמתיחמן ענא מבכרתא ומשוי יעקב ית חוטריא לעיני ענא ברהטיא ליחמותהון בחוטריא:
whwy bkl edn dmthykhmn ena mbkrtha wmshwy yeqb yth khwTrya leyny ena brhTya lykhmwthhwn bkhwTrya
Whenever the stronger of the flock conceived, Jacob laid the rods in front of the eyes of the flock in the watering troughs, that they might conceive among the rods;

ובלקישות ענא לא משוי והוו לקשיא ללבן ובכיריא ליעקב:
wblqyshwth ena la mshwy whww lqshya llbn wbkyrya lyeqb
but when the flock were feeble, he didn’t put them in. So the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s.
43
ותקיף גברא לחדא לחדא והוו ליה ען סגיאן ואמהן ועבדין וגמלין וחמרין:
wthqyp gbra lkhda lkhda whww lyh en sgyan wamhn webdyn wgmlyn wkhmryn
The man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.
