וקרא יצחק ליעקב ובריך יתיה ופקדיה ואמר ליה לא תסב אתתא מבנת כנען:
wqra ytskhq lyeqb wbryk ythyh wpqdyh wamr lyh la thsb aththa mbnth knen
Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

קום אזיל לפדן ארם לבית בתואל אבוהא דאמך וסב לך מתמן אתתא מבנת לבן אחוהא דאמך:
qwm azyl lpdn arm lbyth bthwal abwha damk wsb lk mthmn aththa mbnth lbn akhwha damk
Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

ואל שדי יברך יתך ויפשך ויסגנך ותהי לכנשת שבטין:
wal shdy ybrk ythk wypshk wysgnk wthhy lknshth shbTyn
May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

ויתן לך ית ברכתא דאברהם לך ולבנך עמך למירתך ית ארע תותבותך די יהב יי לאברהם:
wythn lk yth brktha dabrhm lk wlbnk emk lmyrthk yth are thwthbwthk dy yhb yy labrhm
and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”

ושלח יצחק ית יעקב ואזל לפדן ארם לות לבן בר בתואל ארמאה אחוהא דרבקה אמיה דיעקב ועשו:
wshlkh ytskhq yth yeqb wazl lpdn arm lwth lbn br bthwal armah akhwha drbqh amyh dyeqb weshw
Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

וחזא עשו ארי בריך יצחק ית יעקב ושלח יתיה לפדן ארם למסב ליה מתמן אתתא כד בריך יתיה ופקיד עלוהי למימר לא תסב אתתא מבנת כנען:
wkhza eshw ary bryk ytskhq yth yeqb wshlkh ythyh lpdn arm lmsb lyh mthmn aththa kd bryk ythyh wpqyd elwhy lmymr la thsb aththa mbnth knen
Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”

וקביל יעקב מן אבוהי ומן אמיה ואזל לפדן ארם:
wqbyl yeqb mn abwhy wmn amyh wazl lpdn arm
and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
8
וחזא עשו ארי בישא בנת כנען בעיני יצחק אבוהי:
wkhza eshw ary bysha bnth knen beyny ytskhq abwhy
Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
9
ואזל עשו לות ישמעאל ונסיב ית מחלת בת ישמעאל בר אברהם אחתיה דנביות על נשוהי ליה לאנתו:
wazl eshw lwth yshmeal wnsyb yth mkhlth bth yshmeal br abrhm akhthyh dnbywth el nshwhy lyh lanthw
So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

ונפק יעקב מבארא דשבע ואזל לחרן:
wnpq yeqb mbara dshbe wazl lkhrn
Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

וערע באתרא ובת תמן ארי על שמשא ונסיב מאבני אתרא ושוי אסדוהי ושכיב באתרא ההוא:
were bathra wbth thmn ary el shmsha wnsyb mabny athra wshwy asdwhy wshkyb bathra hhwa
He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

וחלם והא סלמא נעיץ בארעא ורישיה מטי עד צית שמיא והא מלאכיא דיי סלקין ונחתין בה:
wkhlm wha slma neyts barea wryshyh mTy ed tsyth shmya wha mlakya dyy slqyn wnkhthyn bh
He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

והא יקרא דיי מעתד עלווהי ואמר אנא יי אלהה דאברהם אבוך ואלהה דיצחק ארעא די את שרי עלה לך אתננה ולבנך:
wha yqra dyy methd elwwhy wamr ana yy alhh dabrhm abwk walhh dytskhq area dy ath shry elh lk athnnh wlbnk
Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.

ויהון בנך סגיאין כעפרא דארעא ותתקף למערבא ולמדינחא ולצפונא ולדרומא ויתברכון בדילך כל זרעית ארעא ובדיל בנך:
wyhwn bnk sgyayn kepra darea wththqp lmerba wlmdynkha wltspwna wldrwma wythbrkwn bdylk kl zreyth area wbdyl bnk
Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.
15
והא מימרי בסעדך ואטרנך בכל אתר די תהך ואתיבנך לארעא הדא ארי לא אשבקנך עד די אעביד ית דמללית לך:
wha mymry bsedk waTrnk bkl athr dy thhk wathybnk larea hda ary la ashbqnk ed dy aebyd yth dmllyth lk
Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

ואתער יעקב משנתיה ואמר בקושטא יקרא דיי שרי באתרא הדין ואנא לא הויתי ידע:
wather yeqb mshnthyh wamr bqwshTa yqra dyy shry bathra hdyn wana la hwythy yde
Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

ודחיל ואמר מה דחילו אתרא הדין לית דין אתר הדיוט אלהין אתר דרעוא ביה מן קדם יי ודין תרע קבל שמיא:
wdkhyl wamr mh dkhylw athra hdyn lyth dyn athr hdywT alhyn athr drewa byh mn qdm yy wdyn thre qbl shmya
He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

ואקדים יעקב בצפרא ונסיב ית אבנא די שוי אסדוהי ושוי יתה קמא ואריק משחא על רישה:
waqdym yeqb btspra wnsyb yth abna dy shwy asdwhy wshwy ythh qma waryq mshkha el ryshh
Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

וקרא ית שמא דאתרא ההוא בית אל וברם לוז שמא דקרתא בקדמיתא:
wqra yth shma dathra hhwa byth al wbrm lwz shma dqrtha bqdmytha
He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
20
וקיים יעקב קים למימר אם יהא מימרא דיי בסעדי ויטרנני בארחא הדין די אנא אזל ויתן לי לחמא למיכל וכסו למלבש:
wqyym yeqb qym lmymr am yha mymra dyy bsedy wyTrnny barkha hdyn dy ana azl wythn ly lkhma lmykl wksw lmlbsh
Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

ואתוב בשלם לבית אבא ויהא מימרא דיי לי לאלהא:
wathwb bshlm lbyth aba wyha mymra dyy ly lalha
so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,
22
ואבנא הדא די שויתי קמא תהי די אהי פלח עלה מן קדם יי וכל די תתן לי חד מן עשרא אפרשניה קדמך:
wabna hda dy shwythy qma thhy dy ahy plkh elh mn qdm yy wkl dy ththn ly khd mn eshra aprshnyh qdmk
then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
