וקרא יצחק ליעקב ובריך יתיה ופקדיה ואמר ליה לא תסב אתתא מבנת כנען:
knen mbnth aththa thsb la lyh wamr wpqdyh ythyh wbryk lyeqb ytskhq wqra
Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

קום אזיל לפדן ארם לבית בתואל אבוהא דאמך וסב לך מתמן אתתא מבנת לבן אחוהא דאמך:
damk akhwha lbn mbnth aththa mthmn lk wsb damk abwha bthwal lbyth arm lpdn azyl qwm
Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

ואל שדי יברך יתך ויפשך ויסגנך ותהי לכנשת שבטין:
shbTyn lknshth wthhy wysgnk wypshk ythk ybrk shdy wal
May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

ויתן לך ית ברכתא דאברהם לך ולבנך עמך למירתך ית ארע תותבותך די יהב יי לאברהם:
labrhm yy yhb dy thwthbwthk are yth lmyrthk emk wlbnk lk dabrhm brktha yth lk wythn
and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”

ושלח יצחק ית יעקב ואזל לפדן ארם לות לבן בר בתואל ארמאה אחוהא דרבקה אמיה דיעקב ועשו:
weshw dyeqb amyh drbqh akhwha armah bthwal br lbn lwth arm lpdn wazl yeqb yth ytskhq wshlkh
Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

וחזא עשו ארי בריך יצחק ית יעקב ושלח יתיה לפדן ארם למסב ליה מתמן אתתא כד בריך יתיה ופקיד עלוהי למימר לא תסב אתתא מבנת כנען:
knen mbnth aththa thsb la lmymr elwhy wpqyd ythyh bryk kd aththa mthmn lyh lmsb arm lpdn ythyh wshlkh yeqb yth ytskhq bryk ary eshw wkhza
Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”

וקביל יעקב מן אבוהי ומן אמיה ואזל לפדן ארם:
arm lpdn wazl amyh wmn abwhy mn yeqb wqbyl
and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
8
וחזא עשו ארי בישא בנת כנען בעיני יצחק אבוהי:
abwhy ytskhq beyny knen bnth bysha ary eshw wkhza
Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
9
ואזל עשו לות ישמעאל ונסיב ית מחלת בת ישמעאל בר אברהם אחתיה דנביות על נשוהי ליה לאנתו:
lanthw lyh nshwhy el dnbywth akhthyh abrhm br yshmeal bth mkhlth yth wnsyb yshmeal lwth eshw wazl
So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

ונפק יעקב מבארא דשבע ואזל לחרן:
lkhrn wazl dshbe mbara yeqb wnpq
Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

וערע באתרא ובת תמן ארי על שמשא ונסיב מאבני אתרא ושוי אסדוהי ושכיב באתרא ההוא:
hhwa bathra wshkyb asdwhy wshwy athra mabny wnsyb shmsha el ary thmn wbth bathra were
He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

וחלם והא סלמא נעיץ בארעא ורישיה מטי עד צית שמיא והא מלאכיא דיי סלקין ונחתין בה:
bh wnkhthyn slqyn dyy mlakya wha shmya tsyth ed mTy wryshyh barea neyts slma wha wkhlm
He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

והא יקרא דיי מעתד עלווהי ואמר אנא יי אלהה דאברהם אבוך ואלהה דיצחק ארעא די את שרי עלה לך אתננה ולבנך:
wlbnk athnnh lk elh shry ath dy area dytskhq walhh abwk dabrhm alhh yy ana wamr elwwhy methd dyy yqra wha
Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.

ויהון בנך סגיאין כעפרא דארעא ותתקף למערבא ולמדינחא ולצפונא ולדרומא ויתברכון בדילך כל זרעית ארעא ובדיל בנך:
bnk wbdyl area zreyth kl bdylk wythbrkwn wldrwma wltspwna wlmdynkha lmerba wththqp darea kepra sgyayn bnk wyhwn
Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.

והא מימרי בסעדך ואטרנך בכל אתר די תהך ואתיבנך לארעא הדא ארי לא אשבקנך עד די אעביד ית דמללית לך:
lk dmllyth yth aebyd dy ed ashbqnk la ary hda larea wathybnk thhk dy athr bkl waTrnk bsedk mymry wha
Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

ואתער יעקב משנתיה ואמר בקושטא יקרא דיי שרי באתרא הדין ואנא לא הויתי ידע:
yde hwythy la wana hdyn bathra shry dyy yqra bqwshTa wamr mshnthyh yeqb wather
Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

ודחיל ואמר מה דחילו אתרא הדין לית דין אתר הדיוט אלהין אתר דרעוא ביה מן קדם יי ודין תרע קבל שמיא:
shmya qbl thre wdyn yy qdm mn byh drewa athr alhyn hdywT athr dyn lyth hdyn athra dkhylw mh wamr wdkhyl
He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

ואקדים יעקב בצפרא ונסיב ית אבנא די שוי אסדוהי ושוי יתה קמא ואריק משחא על רישה:
ryshh el mshkha waryq qma ythh wshwy asdwhy shwy dy abna yth wnsyb btspra yeqb waqdym
Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

וקרא ית שמא דאתרא ההוא בית אל וברם לוז שמא דקרתא בקדמיתא:
bqdmytha dqrtha shma lwz wbrm al byth hhwa dathra shma yth wqra
He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
20
וקיים יעקב קים למימר אם יהא מימרא דיי בסעדי ויטרנני בארחא הדין די אנא אזל ויתן לי לחמא למיכל וכסו למלבש:
lmlbsh wksw lmykl lkhma ly wythn azl ana dy hdyn barkha wyTrnny bsedy dyy mymra yha am lmymr qym yeqb wqyym
Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

ואתוב בשלם לבית אבא ויהא מימרא דיי לי לאלהא:
lalha ly dyy mymra wyha aba lbyth bshlm wathwb
so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,
22
ואבנא הדא די שויתי קמא תהי די אהי פלח עלה מן קדם יי וכל די תתן לי חד מן עשרא אפרשניה קדמך:
qdmk aprshnyh eshra mn khd ly ththn dy wkl yy qdm mn elh plkh ahy dy thhy qma shwythy dy hda wabna
then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
