והוה כד סיב יצחק וכהיא עינוהי מלמחזי וקרא ית עשו בריה רבא ואמר ליה ברי ואמר ליה הא אנא:

When Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, “My son?” He said to him, “Here I am.”

ואמר הא כען סיבית לית אנא ידע יומא דאימות:
wamr ha ken sybyth lyth ana yde ywma daymwth
He said, “See now, I am old. I don’t know the day of my death.

וכען סב כען זינך סיפך וקשתך ופוק לחקלא וצוד לי צידא:
wken sb ken zynk sypk wqshthk wpwq lkhqla wtswd ly tsyda
Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and get me venison.

ועביד לי תבשילין כמא דרחימית ואעל לי ואיכול בדיל די תברכנך נפשי עד לא אימות:
webyd ly thbshylyn kma drkhymyth wael ly waykwl bdyl dy thbrknk npshy ed la aymwth
Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die.”

ורבקה שמעת כד מליל יצחק לות עשו בריה ואזל עשו לחקלא למיצד צידא לאיתאה:
wrbqh shmeth kd mlyl ytskhq lwth eshw bryh wazl eshw lkhqla lmytsd tsyda laythah
Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

ורבקה אמרת לות יעקב ברה למימר הא שמעית מן אבוך ממלל עם עשו אחוך למימר:
wrbqh amrth lwth yeqb brh lmymr ha shmeyth mn abwk mmll em eshw akhwk lmymr
Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,

אתי לי צידא ועביד לי תבשילין ואיכול ואברכנך קדם יי קדם מותי:
athy ly tsyda webyd ly thbshylyn waykwl wabrknk qdm yy qdm mwthy
‘Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before Yahweh before my death.’

וכען ברי קבל מני למא די אנא מפקד יתך:
wken bry qbl mny lma dy ana mpqd ythk
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.
9
אזיל כען לות ענא וסב לי מתמן תרין גדיי עזין טבן ואעבד יתהון תבשילין לאבוך כמא די רחם:
azyl ken lwth ena wsb ly mthmn thryn gdyy ezyn Tbn waebd ythhwn thbshylyn labwk kma dy rkhm
Go now to the flock and get me two good young goats from there. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves.

ותיתי לאבוך ויכול בדיל דיברכנך קדם מותיה:
wthythy labwk wykwl bdyl dybrknk qdm mwthyh
You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death.”
11
ואמר יעקב לרבקה אמיה הא עשו אחי גבר שערן ואנא גבר שעיע:
wamr yeqb lrbqh amyh ha eshw akhy gbr shern wana gbr sheye
Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

מאים ימשנני אבא ואהי בעינוהי כמתלעב ואהי מיתי עלי לוטין ולא ברכן:
maym ymshnny aba wahy beynwhy kmthleb wahy mythy ely lwTyn wla brkn
What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing.”

ואמרת ליה אמיה עלי אתאמר בנבואה דלא ייתון לוטיא עלך ברי ברם קבל מני ואזיל סב לי:
wamrth lyh amyh ely athamr bnbwah dla yythwn lwTya elk bry brm qbl mny wazyl sb ly
His mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me.”

ואזל ונסיב ואיתי לאמיה ועבדת אמיה תבשילין כמא דרחם אבוהי:
wazl wnsyb waythy lamyh webdth amyh thbshylyn kma drkhm abwhy
He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved.
15
ונסיבת רבקה ית לבושי עשו ברה רבא דכיתא די עמה בביתא ואלבישת ית יעקב ברה זעירא:
wnsybth rbqh yth lbwshy eshw brh rba dkytha dy emh bbytha walbyshth yth yeqb brh zeyra
Rebekah took the good clothes of Esau, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob, her younger son.
16
וית משכי גדיי בר עזי אלבישת על ידוהי ועל שעיעות צוריה:
wyth mshky gdyy br ezy albyshth el ydwhy wel sheyewth tswryh
She put the skins of the young goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck.
17
ויהבת ית תבשיליא וית לחמא די עבדת בידא דיעקב ברה:
wyhbth yth thbshylya wyth lkhma dy ebdth byda dyeqb brh
She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18
ועל לות אבוהי ואמר אבא ואמר הא אנא מן את ברי:
wel lwth abwhy wamr aba wamr ha ana mn ath bry
He came to his father, and said, “My father?” He said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”
19
ואמר יעקב לאבוהי אנא עשו בוכרך עבדית כמא די מלילתא עמי קום כען אסתחר ואכול מצידי בדיל די תברכנני נפשך:
wamr yeqb labwhy ana eshw bwkrk ebdyth kma dy mlyltha emy qwm ken asthkhr wakwl mtsydy bdyl dy thbrknny npshk
Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.”

ואמר יצחק לבריה מה דין אוחיתא לאשכחא ברי ואמר ארי זמין יי אלהך קדמי:
wamr ytskhq lbryh mh dyn awkhytha lashkkha bry wamr ary zmyn yy alhk qdmy
Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He said, “Because Yahweh your God gave me success.”

ואמר יצחק ליעקב קריב כען ואמשנך ברי האת דין ברי עשו אם לא:
wamr ytskhq lyeqb qryb ken wamshnk bry hath dyn bry eshw am la
Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”

וקריב יעקב לות יצחק אבוהי ומשיה ואמר קלא קלא דיעקב וידיא ידוהי דעשו:
wqryb yeqb lwth ytskhq abwhy wmshyh wamr qla qla dyeqb wydya ydwhy deshw
Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

ולא אשתמודעיה ארי הואה ידוהי כידי עשו אחוהי שעירן וברכיה:
wla ashthmwdeyh ary hwah ydwhy kydy eshw akhwhy sheyrn wbrkyh
He didn’t recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau’s hands. So he blessed him.

ואמר את דין ברי עשו ואמר הא אנא:
wamr ath dyn bry eshw wamr ha ana
He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He said, “I am.”
25
ואמר קריב קדמי ואיכול מצידא דברי בדיל די תברכנך נפשי וקריב ליה ואכל ואיתי ליה חמרא ושתי:
wamr qryb qdmy waykwl mtsyda dbry bdyl dy thbrknk npshy wqryb lyh wakl waythy lyh khmra wshthy
He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless you.” He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.

ואמר ליה יצחק אבוהי קריב כען ונשק לי ברי:
wamr lyh ytskhq abwhy qryb ken wnshq ly bry
His father Isaac said to him, “Come near now, and kiss me, my son.”
27
וקרב ונשק ליה וארח ית ריחא דלבושוהי וברכיה ואמר הוו ריחא דברי כריחא דחקלא די ברכיה יי:
wqrb wnshq lyh warkh yth rykha dlbwshwhy wbrkyh wamr hww rykha dbry krykha dkhqla dy brkyh yy
He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, “Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Yahweh has blessed.
28
ויתן לך יי מטלא דשמיא ומטובא דארעא וסגיאות עיבור וחמר:
wythn lk yy mTla dshmya wmTwba darea wsgyawth eybwr wkhmr
God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.
29
יפלחנך עממין וישתעבדון לך מלכון הוי רב לאחיך ויסגדון לך בני אמך מלטטיך יהון ליטין ומברכיך יהון בריכין:
yplkhnk emmyn wyshthebdwn lk mlkwn hwy rb lakhyk wysgdwn lk bny amk mlTTyk yhwn lyTyn wmbrkyk yhwn brykyn
Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you.”

והוה כד שיצי יצחק לברכא ית יעקב והוה ברם מפק נפק יעקב מלות אפי יצחק אבוהי ועשו אחוהי אתא מצידיה:
whwh kd shytsy ytskhq lbrka yth yeqb whwh brm mpq npq yeqb mlwth apy ytskhq abwhy weshw akhwhy atha mtsydyh
As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

ועבד אף הוא תבשילין ואעיל לות אבוהי ואמר לאבוהי יקום אבא ויכול מצידא דבריה בדיל די תברכנני נפשך:
webd ap hwa thbshylyn waeyl lwth abwhy wamr labwhy yqwm aba wykwl mtsyda dbryh bdyl dy thbrknny npshk
He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, “Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that your soul may bless me.”
32
ואמר ליה יצחק אבוהי מן את ואמר אנא ברך בוכרך עשו:
wamr lyh ytskhq abwhy mn ath wamr ana brk bwkrk eshw
Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?” He said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”
33
ותוה יצחק תוהא רבא עד לחדא ואמר מן הוא דיכי דצד צידא ואעיל לי ואכלית מכלא עד לא תיעול וברכתיה אף בריך יהי:
wthwh ytskhq thwha rba ed lkhda wamr mn hwa dyky dtsd tsyda waeyl ly waklyth mkla ed la thyewl wbrkthyh ap bryk yhy
Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.”
34
כד שמע עשו ית פתגמי אבוהי וצוח צוחא רבא ומרירא עד לחדא ואמר לאבוהי ברכני אף אנא אבא:
kd shme eshw yth pthgmy abwhy wtswkh tswkha rba wmryra ed lkhda wamr labwhy brkny ap ana aba
When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, my father.”
35
ואמר על אחוך בחכמתא וקביל ברכתך:
wamr el akhwk bkhkmtha wqbyl brkthk
He said, “Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing.”
36
ואמר יאות קרא שמיה יעקב וחכמני דנן תרתין זמנין ית בכירותי נסיב והא כען קביל ברכתי ואמר הלא שבקת לי ברכתא:
wamr yawth qra shmyh yeqb wkhkmny dnn thrthyn zmnyn yth bkyrwthy nsyb wha ken qbyl brkthy wamr hla shbqth ly brktha
He said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing.” He said, “Haven’t you reserved a blessing for me?”
37
ואתיב יצחק ואמר לעשו הא רב שותיה לך וית כל אחוהי יהבית ליה לעבדין ועיבור וחמר סעדתיה ולך הכא מה אעביד ברי:
wathyb ytskhq wamr leshw ha rb shwthyh lk wyth kl akhwhy yhbyth lyh lebdyn weybwr wkhmr sedthyh wlk hka mh aebyd bry
Isaac answered Esau, “Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants. I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then will I do for you, my son?”
38
ואמר עשו לאבוהי הברכתא חדא היא לך אבא ברך לי אף אנא אבא וארים עשו קליה ובכא:
wamr eshw labwhy hbrktha khda hya lk aba brk ly ap ana aba warym eshw qlyh wbka
Esau said to his father, “Do you have just one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father.” Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39
ואתיב יצחק אבוהי ואמר ליה הא מטובא דארעא יהא מותבך ומטלא דשמיא מלעלא:
wathyb ytskhq abwhy wamr lyh ha mTwba darea yha mwthbk wmTla dshmya mlela
Isaac his father answered him, “Behold, your dwelling will be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of the sky from above.
40
ועל חרבך תיחי וית אחוך תפלח ויהי כד יעברון בנוהי על פתגמי אוריתא ותעדי ניריה מעל צורך:
wel khrbk thykhy wyth akhwk thplkh wyhy kd yebrwn bnwhy el pthgmy awrytha wthedy nyryh mel tswrk
You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you will shake his yoke from off your neck.”
41
ונטר עשו דבבו ליעקב על ברכתא די ברכיה אבוהי ואמר עשו בלביה יקרבון יומי אבלי דאבא ואקטול ית יעקב אחי:
wnTr eshw dbbw lyeqb el brktha dy brkyh abwhy wamr eshw blbyh yqrbwn ywmy ably daba waqTwl yth yeqb akhy
Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
42
ואתחוה לרבקה ית פתגמי עשו ברה רבא ושלחת וקרת ליעקב ברה זעירא ואמרת ליה הא עשו אחוך כמן לך למקטלך:
wathkhwh lrbqh yth pthgmy eshw brh rba wshlkhth wqrth lyeqb brh zeyra wamrth lyh ha eshw akhwk kmn lk lmqTlk
The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.
43
וכען ברי קבל מני וקום אזיל לך לות לבן אחי לחרן:
wken bry qbl mny wqwm azyl lk lwth lbn akhy lkhrn
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.
44
ותתיב עמיה יומין זעירין עד דיתוב רוגזא דאחוך:
wththyb emyh ywmyn zeyryn ed dythwb rwgza dakhwk
Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away—
45
עד דיתוב רוגזא דאחוך מנך ויתנשי ית די עבדת ליה ואשלח ואדברנך מתמן למה אתכל אף תרויכון יומא חד:
ed dythwb rwgza dakhwk mnk wythnshy yth dy ebdth lyh washlkh wadbrnk mthmn lmh athkl ap thrwykwn ywma khd
until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”
46
ואמרת רבקה ליצחק עקית בחיי מן קדם בנת חתאה אם נסיב יעקב אתתא מבנת חתאה כאלין מבנת ארעא למה לי חיים:
wamrth rbqh lytskhq eqyth bkhyy mn qdm bnth khthah am nsyb yeqb aththa mbnth khthah kalyn mbnth area lmh ly khyym
Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?”
