והוה כפנא בארעא בר מכפנא קדמאה די הוה ביומי אברהם ואזל יצחק לות אבימלך מלכא דפלשתאי לגרר:
lgrr dplshthay mlka abymlk lwth ytskhq wazl abrhm bywmy hwh dy qdmah mkpna br barea kpna whwh
There was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

ואתגלי ליה יי ואמר לא תחות למצרים שרי בארעא די אימר לך:
lk aymr dy barea shry lmtsrym thkhwth la wamr yy lyh wathgly
Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

דור בארעא הדא ויהי מימרי בסעדך ואברכנך ארי לך ולבנך אתן ית כל ארעתא האלין ואקם ית קימא די קימית לאברהם אבוך:
abwk labrhm qymyth dy qyma yth waqm halyn aretha kl yth athn wlbnk lk ary wabrknk bsedk mymry wyhy hda barea dwr
Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

ואסגי ית בנך סגיאין ככוכבי שמיא ואתן לבנך ית כל ארעתא האלין ויתברכון בדיל בנך כל עממי ארעא:

I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

חלף די קביל אברהם במימרי ונטר מטרת מימרי פקודי קימי ואוריתי:
wawrythy qymy pqwdy mymry mTrth wnTr bmymry abrhm qbyl dy khlp
because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

ושאילו אנשי אתרא לאתתיה ואמר אחתי היא ארי דחיל למימר אתתי דלמא יקטלנני אנשי אתרא על רבקה ארי שפירת חיזו היא:
hya khyzw shpyrth ary rbqh el athra anshy yqTlnny dlma aththy lmymr dkhyl ary hya akhthy wamr laththyh athra anshy wshaylw
The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

והוה כד סגיאו ליה תמן יומיא ואסתכי אבימלך מלכא דפלשתאי מן חרכא וחזא והא יצחק מחייך עם רבקה אתתיה:
aththyh rbqh em mkhyyk ytskhq wha wkhza khrka mn dplshthay mlka abymlk wasthky ywmya thmn lyh sgyaw kd whwh
When he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

וקרא אבימלך ליצחק ואמר ברם הא אתתך היא ואכדין אמרת אחתי היא ואמר ליה יצחק ארי אמרית דלמא אימות עלה:
elh aymwth dlma amryth ary ytskhq lyh wamr hya akhthy amrth wakdyn hya aththk ha brm wamr lytskhq abymlk wqra
Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”

ואמר אבימלך מה דא עבדת לנא כזער פון שכיב דמיחד בעמא עם אתתך ואיתיתא עלנא חובא:
khwba elna waythytha aththk em bema dmykhd shkyb pwn kzer lna ebdth da mh abymlk wamr
Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

ופקיד אבימלך ית כל עמא למימר דינזק בגברא הדין ובאתתיה אתקטלא יתקטל:
ythqTl athqTla wbaththyh hdyn bgbra dynzq lmymr ema kl yth abymlk wpqyd
Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

וזרע יצחק בארעא ההיא ואשכח בשתא ההיא על חד מאה בדשערוהי וברכיה יי:
yy wbrkyh bdsherwhy mah khd el hhya bshtha washkkh hhya barea ytskhq wzre
Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

ורבא גברא ואזל אזיל ורבי עד די רבא לחדא:
lkhda rba dy ed wrby azyl wazl gbra wrba
The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
14
והוה ליה גיתי ענא וגיתי תורין ופלחנא סגיא וקניאו ביה פלשתאי:
plshthay byh wqnyaw sgya wplkhna thwryn wgythy ena gythy lyh whwh
He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.

וכל בירין די חפרו עבדי אבוהי ביומי אברהם אבוהי טמונון פלשתאי ומלאנון עפרא:
epra wmlanwn plshthay Tmwnwn abwhy abrhm bywmy abwhy ebdy khprw dy byryn wkl
Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.

ואמר אבימלך ליצחק אזל מעמנא ארי תקפתא מננא לחדא:
lkhda mnna thqptha ary memna azl lytskhq abymlk wamr
Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
17
ואזל מתמן יצחק ושרא בנחלא דגרר ויתב תמן:
thmn wythb dgrr bnkhla wshra ytskhq mthmn wazl
Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.
18
ותב יצחק וחפר ית בירי דמיא די חפרו ביומי אברהם אבוהי וטמונון פלשתאי בתר דמית אברהם וקרא להן שמהן כשמהן די הוה קרי להן אבוהי:
abwhy lhn qry hwh dy kshmhn shmhn lhn wqra abrhm dmyth bthr plshthay wTmwnwn abwhy abrhm bywmy khprw dy dmya byry yth wkhpr ytskhq wthb
Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

וחפרו עבדי יצחק בנחלא ואשכחו תמן בירא דמיין נבעין:
nbeyn dmyyn byra thmn washkkhw bnkhla ytskhq ebdy wkhprw
Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of flowing water.
20
ונצו רעותא דגרר עם רעותא דיצחק למימר די לנא מיא וקרא שמא דבירא עסקא ארי אתעסיקו עמיה:
emyh athesyqw ary esqa dbyra shma wqra mya lna dy lmymr dytskhq rewtha em dgrr rewtha wntsw
The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

וחפרו בירא אחרי ונצו אף עלה וקרא שמה שטנה:
shTnh shmh wqra elh ap wntsw akhry byra wkhprw
They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. So he called its name Sitnah.
22
ואסתלק מתמן וחפר בירא אחרי ולא נצו עלה וקרא שמה רחבות ואמר ארי כען אפתי יי לנא וניפוש בארעא:
barea wnypwsh lna yy apthy ken ary wamr rkhbwth shmh wqra elh ntsw wla akhry byra wkhpr mthmn wasthlq
He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. So he called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

ואתגלי ליה יי בליליא ההוא ואמר אנא אלהה דאברהם אבוך לא תדחל ארי בסעדך מימרי ואברכנך ואסגי ית בנך בדיל אברהם עבדי:
ebdy abrhm bdyl bnk yth wasgy wabrknk mymry bsedk ary thdkhl la abwk dabrhm alhh ana wamr hhwa blylya yy lyh wathgly
Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

ובנא תמן מדבחא וצלי בשמא דיי ופרס תמן משכניה וכרו תמן עבדי יצחק בירא:
byra ytskhq ebdy thmn wkrw mshknyh thmn wprs dyy bshma wtsly mdbkha thmn wbna
He built an altar there, and called on Yahweh’s name, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.

ואבימלך אזל לותיה מגרר וסיעת מרחמוהי ופיכל רב חיליה:
khylyh rb wpykl mrkhmwhy wsyeth mgrr lwthyh azl wabymlk
Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.

ואמר להון יצחק מה דין אתיתון לותי ואתון סניתון יתי ושלחתוני מלותכון:
mlwthkwn wshlkhthwny ythy snythwn wathwn lwthy athythwn dyn mh ytskhq lhwn wamr
Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”
28
ואמרו מחזא חזינא ארי הוה מימרא דיי בסעדך ואמרנא תתקים כען מומתא דהוה בין אבהתנא ביננא ובינך ונגזר קים עמך:
emk qym wngzr wbynk bynna abhthna byn dhwh mwmtha ken ththqym wamrna bsedk dyy mymra hwh ary khzyna mkhza wamrw
They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let’s make a covenant with you,

אם תעבד עמנא בישא כמא די לא אנזיקנך וכמא די עבדנא עמך לחוד טב ונשלחנך בשלם את כען בריכא דיי:
dyy bryka ken ath bshlm wnshlkhnk Tb lkhwd emk ebdna dy wkma anzyqnk la dy kma bysha emna thebd am
that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”

ועבד להון משתיא ואכלו ושתיאו:
wshthyaw waklw mshthya lhwn webd
He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
31
ואקדימו בצפרא וקיימו גבר לאחוהי ושלחנון יצחק ואזלו מלותיה בשלם:
bshlm mlwthyh wazlw ytskhq wshlkhnwn lakhwhy gbr wqyymw btspra waqdymw
They rose up some time in the morning, and swore an oath to one another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32
והוה ביומא ההוא ואתו עבדי יצחק וחויאו ליה על עיסק בירא די חפרו ואמרו ליה אשכחנא מיא:
mya ashkkhna lyh wamrw khprw dy byra eysq el lyh wkhwyaw ytskhq ebdy wathw hhwa bywma whwh
The same day, Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”

וקרא יתה שבעה על כן שמא דקרתא בארא דשבע עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed dshbe bara dqrtha shma kn el shbeh ythh wqra
He called it “Shibah”. Therefore the name of the city is “Beersheba” to this day.

והוה עשו בר ארבעין שנין ונסיב אתתא ית יהודית בת בארי חתאה וית בשמת בת אילון חתאה:
khthah aylwn bth bshmth wyth khthah bary bth yhwdyth yth aththa wnsyb shnyn arbeyn br eshw whwh
When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
