והוה כפנא בארעא בר מכפנא קדמאה די הוה ביומי אברהם ואזל יצחק לות אבימלך מלכא דפלשתאי לגרר:
whwh kpna barea br mkpna qdmah dy hwh bywmy abrhm wazl ytskhq lwth abymlk mlka dplshthay lgrr
There was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

ואתגלי ליה יי ואמר לא תחות למצרים שרי בארעא די אימר לך:
wathgly lyh yy wamr la thkhwth lmtsrym shry barea dy aymr lk
Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

דור בארעא הדא ויהי מימרי בסעדך ואברכנך ארי לך ולבנך אתן ית כל ארעתא האלין ואקם ית קימא די קימית לאברהם אבוך:
dwr barea hda wyhy mymry bsedk wabrknk ary lk wlbnk athn yth kl aretha halyn waqm yth qyma dy qymyth labrhm abwk
Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

ואסגי ית בנך סגיאין ככוכבי שמיא ואתן לבנך ית כל ארעתא האלין ויתברכון בדיל בנך כל עממי ארעא:
wasgy yth bnk sgyayn kkwkby shmya wathn lbnk yth kl aretha halyn wythbrkwn bdyl bnk kl emmy area
I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

חלף די קביל אברהם במימרי ונטר מטרת מימרי פקודי קימי ואוריתי:
khlp dy qbyl abrhm bmymry wnTr mTrth mymry pqwdy qymy wawrythy
because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

ושאילו אנשי אתרא לאתתיה ואמר אחתי היא ארי דחיל למימר אתתי דלמא יקטלנני אנשי אתרא על רבקה ארי שפירת חיזו היא:
wshaylw anshy athra laththyh wamr akhthy hya ary dkhyl lmymr aththy dlma yqTlnny anshy athra el rbqh ary shpyrth khyzw hya
The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

והוה כד סגיאו ליה תמן יומיא ואסתכי אבימלך מלכא דפלשתאי מן חרכא וחזא והא יצחק מחייך עם רבקה אתתיה:
whwh kd sgyaw lyh thmn ywmya wasthky abymlk mlka dplshthay mn khrka wkhza wha ytskhq mkhyyk em rbqh aththyh
When he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

וקרא אבימלך ליצחק ואמר ברם הא אתתך היא ואכדין אמרת אחתי היא ואמר ליה יצחק ארי אמרית דלמא אימות עלה:
wqra abymlk lytskhq wamr brm ha aththk hya wakdyn amrth akhthy hya wamr lyh ytskhq ary amryth dlma aymwth elh
Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”

ואמר אבימלך מה דא עבדת לנא כזער פון שכיב דמיחד בעמא עם אתתך ואיתיתא עלנא חובא:
wamr abymlk mh da ebdth lna kzer pwn shkyb dmykhd bema em aththk waythytha elna khwba
Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

ופקיד אבימלך ית כל עמא למימר דינזק בגברא הדין ובאתתיה אתקטלא יתקטל:
wpqyd abymlk yth kl ema lmymr dynzq bgbra hdyn wbaththyh athqTla ythqTl
Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

וזרע יצחק בארעא ההיא ואשכח בשתא ההיא על חד מאה בדשערוהי וברכיה יי:
wzre ytskhq barea hhya washkkh bshtha hhya el khd mah bdsherwhy wbrkyh yy
Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

ורבא גברא ואזל אזיל ורבי עד די רבא לחדא:
wrba gbra wazl azyl wrby ed dy rba lkhda
The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
14
והוה ליה גיתי ענא וגיתי תורין ופלחנא סגיא וקניאו ביה פלשתאי:
whwh lyh gythy ena wgythy thwryn wplkhna sgya wqnyaw byh plshthay
He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.
15
וכל בירין די חפרו עבדי אבוהי ביומי אברהם אבוהי טמונון פלשתאי ומלאנון עפרא:
wkl byryn dy khprw ebdy abwhy bywmy abrhm abwhy Tmwnwn plshthay wmlanwn epra
Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.
16
ואמר אבימלך ליצחק אזל מעמנא ארי תקפתא מננא לחדא:
wamr abymlk lytskhq azl memna ary thqptha mnna lkhda
Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
17
ואזל מתמן יצחק ושרא בנחלא דגרר ויתב תמן:
wazl mthmn ytskhq wshra bnkhla dgrr wythb thmn
Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.
18
ותב יצחק וחפר ית בירי דמיא די חפרו ביומי אברהם אבוהי וטמונון פלשתאי בתר דמית אברהם וקרא להן שמהן כשמהן די הוה קרי להן אבוהי:
wthb ytskhq wkhpr yth byry dmya dy khprw bywmy abrhm abwhy wTmwnwn plshthay bthr dmyth abrhm wqra lhn shmhn kshmhn dy hwh qry lhn abwhy
Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
19
וחפרו עבדי יצחק בנחלא ואשכחו תמן בירא דמיין נבעין:
wkhprw ebdy ytskhq bnkhla washkkhw thmn byra dmyyn nbeyn
Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of flowing water.
20
ונצו רעותא דגרר עם רעותא דיצחק למימר די לנא מיא וקרא שמא דבירא עסקא ארי אתעסיקו עמיה:
wntsw rewtha dgrr em rewtha dytskhq lmymr dy lna mya wqra shma dbyra esqa ary athesyqw emyh
The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.
21
וחפרו בירא אחרי ונצו אף עלה וקרא שמה שטנה:
wkhprw byra akhry wntsw ap elh wqra shmh shTnh
They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. So he called its name Sitnah.
22
ואסתלק מתמן וחפר בירא אחרי ולא נצו עלה וקרא שמה רחבות ואמר ארי כען אפתי יי לנא וניפוש בארעא:
wasthlq mthmn wkhpr byra akhry wla ntsw elh wqra shmh rkhbwth wamr ary ken apthy yy lna wnypwsh barea
He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. So he called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

ואתגלי ליה יי בליליא ההוא ואמר אנא אלהה דאברהם אבוך לא תדחל ארי בסעדך מימרי ואברכנך ואסגי ית בנך בדיל אברהם עבדי:
wathgly lyh yy blylya hhwa wamr ana alhh dabrhm abwk la thdkhl ary bsedk mymry wabrknk wasgy yth bnk bdyl abrhm ebdy
Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

ובנא תמן מדבחא וצלי בשמא דיי ופרס תמן משכניה וכרו תמן עבדי יצחק בירא:
wbna thmn mdbkha wtsly bshma dyy wprs thmn mshknyh wkrw thmn ebdy ytskhq byra
He built an altar there, and called on Yahweh’s name, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.
26
ואבימלך אזל לותיה מגרר וסיעת מרחמוהי ופיכל רב חיליה:
wabymlk azl lwthyh mgrr wsyeth mrkhmwhy wpykl rb khylyh
Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.
27
ואמר להון יצחק מה דין אתיתון לותי ואתון סניתון יתי ושלחתוני מלותכון:
wamr lhwn ytskhq mh dyn athythwn lwthy wathwn snythwn ythy wshlkhthwny mlwthkwn
Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”
28
ואמרו מחזא חזינא ארי הוה מימרא דיי בסעדך ואמרנא תתקים כען מומתא דהוה בין אבהתנא ביננא ובינך ונגזר קים עמך:
wamrw mkhza khzyna ary hwh mymra dyy bsedk wamrna ththqym ken mwmtha dhwh byn abhthna bynna wbynk wngzr qym emk
They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let’s make a covenant with you,
29
אם תעבד עמנא בישא כמא די לא אנזיקנך וכמא די עבדנא עמך לחוד טב ונשלחנך בשלם את כען בריכא דיי:
am thebd emna bysha kma dy la anzyqnk wkma dy ebdna emk lkhwd Tb wnshlkhnk bshlm ath ken bryka dyy
that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”

ועבד להון משתיא ואכלו ושתיאו:
webd lhwn mshthya waklw wshthyaw
He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
31
ואקדימו בצפרא וקיימו גבר לאחוהי ושלחנון יצחק ואזלו מלותיה בשלם:
waqdymw btspra wqyymw gbr lakhwhy wshlkhnwn ytskhq wazlw mlwthyh bshlm
They rose up some time in the morning, and swore an oath to one another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32
והוה ביומא ההוא ואתו עבדי יצחק וחויאו ליה על עיסק בירא די חפרו ואמרו ליה אשכחנא מיא:
whwh bywma hhwa wathw ebdy ytskhq wkhwyaw lyh el eysq byra dy khprw wamrw lyh ashkkhna mya
The same day, Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”
33
וקרא יתה שבעה על כן שמא דקרתא בארא דשבע עד יומא הדין:
wqra ythh shbeh el kn shma dqrtha bara dshbe ed ywma hdyn
He called it “Shibah”. Therefore the name of the city is “Beersheba” to this day.

והוה עשו בר ארבעין שנין ונסיב אתתא ית יהודית בת בארי חתאה וית בשמת בת אילון חתאה:
whwh eshw br arbeyn shnyn wnsyb aththa yth yhwdyth bth bary khthah wyth bshmth bth aylwn khthah
When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
35
והואה מסרבן ומרגזן על מימר יצחק ורבקה:
whwah msrbn wmrgzn el mymr ytskhq wrbqh
They grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.
