ואברהם סיב על ביומין ויי בריך ית אברהם בכלא:
bkla abrhm yth bryk wyy bywmyn el syb wabrhm
Abraham was old, and well advanced in age. Yahweh had blessed Abraham in all things.
2
ואמר אברהם לעבדיה סבא דביתיה דשליט בכל די ליה שוי כען ידך תחות ירכי:
yrky thkhwth ydk ken shwy lyh dy bkl dshlyT dbythyh sba lebdyh abrhm wamr
Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please put your hand under my thigh.

ואקים עלך במימרא דיי אלהא דשמיא ואלהא דארעא דלא תסב אתתא לברי מבנת כנענאי די אנא יתב ביניהון:
bynyhwn ythb ana dy knenay mbnth lbry aththa thsb dla darea walha dshmya alha dyy bmymra elk waqym
I will make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

אלהין לארעי ולילדותי תיזיל ותסב אתתא לברי ליצחק:
lytskhq lbry aththa wthsb thyzyl wlyldwthy larey alhyn
But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
5
ואמר ליה עבדא מאים לא תיבי אתתא למיתי בתרי לארעא הדא האתבא אתיב ית ברך לארעא די נפקתא מתמן:
mthmn npqtha dy larea brk yth athyb hathba hda larea bthry lmythy aththa thyby la maym ebda lyh wamr
The servant said to him, “What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?”

ואמר ליה אברהם אסתמר לך דילמא תתיב ית ברי לתמן:
lthmn bry yth ththyb dylma lk asthmr abrhm lyh wamr
Abraham said to him, “Beware that you don’t bring my son there again.
7
יי אלהא דשמיא די דברני מבית אבא ומארע ילדותי ודי מלל לי ודי קים לי למימר לברך אתן ית ארעא הדא הוא ישלח מלאכיה קדמך ותסב אתתא לברי מתמן:
mthmn lbry aththa wthsb qdmk mlakyh yshlkh hwa hda area yth athn lbrk lmymr ly qym wdy ly mll wdy yldwthy wmare aba mbyth dbrny dy dshmya alha yy
Yahweh, the God of heaven—who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your offspring—he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

ואם לא תיבי אתתא למיתי בתרך ותהי זכאה ממומתי דא לחוד ית ברי לא תתב לתמן:
lthmn ththb la bry yth lkhwd da mmwmthy zkah wthhy bthrk lmythy aththa thyby la wam
If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again.”

ושוי עבדא ית ידיה תחות ירכא דאברהם רבוניה וקים ליה על פתגמא הדין:
hdyn pthgma el lyh wqym rbwnyh dabrhm yrka thkhwth ydyh yth ebda wshwy
The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

ודבר עבדא עשרא גמלין מגמלי רבונה ואזל וכל שפר רבוניה בידיה וקם ואזל לארם די על פרת לקרתא דנחור:
dnkhwr lqrtha prth el dy larm wazl wqm bydyh rbwnyh shpr wkl wazl rbwnh mgmly gmlyn eshra ebda wdbr
The servant took ten of his master’s camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master’s with him. He arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

ואשרי גמליא מברא לקרתא לבארא דמיא לעדן רמשא לעדן דנפקן מליתא:
mlytha dnpqn ledn rmsha ledn dmya lbara lqrtha mbra gmlya washry
He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.

ואמר יי אלהה דרבוני אברהם זמין כען קדמי יומא דין ועבד טיבו עם רבוני אברהם:
abrhm rbwny em Tybw webd dyn ywma qdmy ken zmyn abrhm drbwny alhh yy wamr
He said, “Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

הא אנא קאם על עינא דמיא ובנת אנשי קרתא נפקן לממלי מיא:
mya lmmly npqn qrtha anshy wbnth dmya eyna el qam ana ha
Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.
14
ותהי עולמתא דאימר לה ארכיני כען קולתיך ואשתי ותימר אשת ואף גמלך אשקי יתה זמנתא לעבדך ליצחק ובה אידע ארי עבדת טיבו עם רבוני:
rbwny em Tybw ebdth ary ayde wbh lytskhq lebdk zmntha ythh ashqy gmlk wap ashth wthymr washthy qwlthyk ken arkyny lh daymr ewlmtha wthhy
Let it happen, that the young lady to whom I will say, ‘Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,’ then she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,’—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

והוה הוא עד לא שיצי למללא והא רבקה נפקת דאתילידת לבתואל בר מלכה אתת נחור אחוהי דאברהם וקולתה על כתפה:
kthph el wqwlthh dabrhm akhwhy nkhwr athth mlkh br lbthwal dathylydth npqth rbqh wha lmlla shytsy la ed hwa whwh
Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.

ועולמתא שפירת חיזו לחדא בתלתא וגבר לא ידעה ונחתת לעינא ומלת קולתה וסלקת:
wslqth qwlthh wmlth leyna wnkhthth ydeh la wgbr bthltha lkhda khyzw shpyrth wewlmtha
The young lady was very beautiful to look at, a virgin. No man had known her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up.

ורהט עבדא לקדמותה ואמר אשקיני כען זעיר מיא מקולתיך:
mqwlthyk mya zeyr ken ashqyny wamr lqdmwthh ebda wrhT
The servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.”
18
ואמרת אשת רבוני ואוחיאת ואחיתת קולתה על ידה ואשקתיה:
washqthyh ydh el qwlthh wakhythth wawkhyath rbwny ashth wamrth
She said, “Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him a drink.
19
ושיציאת לאשקיותיה ואמרת אף לגמלך אמלי עד די ספקון למשתי:
lmshthy spqwn dy ed amly lgmlk ap wamrth lashqywthyh wshytsyath
When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking.”

ואוחיאת ונפצת קולתה לבית שקיא ורהטת עוד לבירא לממלי ומלת לכל גמלוהי:
gmlwhy lkl wmlth lmmly lbyra ewd wrhTth shqya lbyth qwlthh wnptsth wawkhyath
She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.
21
וגברא שהי בה מסתכל שתיק למידע האצלח יי ארחיה אם לא:
la am arkhyh yy hatslkh lmyde shthyq msthkl bh shhy wgbra
The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.
22
והוה כד ספיקו גמליא למשתי ונסיב גברא קדשא דדהבא תקלא מתקליה ותרין שירין על ידהא מתקל עשר סלעין דדהבא מתקלהון:
mthqlhwn ddhba sleyn eshr mthql ydha el shyryn wthryn mthqlyh thqla ddhba qdsha gbra wnsyb lmshthy gmlya spyqw kd whwh
As the camels had finished drinking, the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,

ואמר בת מן את חוי כען לי האית בית אבוך אתר כשר לנא למבת:
lmbth lna kshr athr abwk byth hayth ly ken khwy ath mn bth wamr
and said, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father’s house for us to stay?”
24
ואמרת ליה בת בתואל אנא בר מלכא דילידת לנחור:
lnkhwr dylydth mlka br ana bthwal bth lyh wamrth
She said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.”
25
ואמרת ליה אף תבנא אף כסתא סגי עמנא אף אתר כשר למבת:
lmbth kshr athr ap emna sgy kstha ap thbna ap lyh wamrth
She said moreover to him, “We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge in.”
27
ואמר בריך יי אלהא דרבוני אברהם די לא מנע טיבותיה וקושטיה מן רבוני אנא באורח תקנא דברני יי בית אחוהי דרבוני:
drbwny akhwhy byth yy dbrny thqna bawrkh ana rbwny mn wqwshTyh Tybwthyh mne la dy abrhm drbwny alha yy bryk wamr
He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me on the way to the house of my master’s relatives.”

ורהטת עולמתא וחויאת לבית אמה כפתגמיא האלין:
halyn kpthgmya amh lbyth wkhwyath ewlmtha wrhTth
The young lady ran, and told her mother’s house about these words.
29
ולרבקה אחא ושמיה לבן ורהט לבן לות גברא לברא לות עינא:
eyna lwth lbra gbra lwth lbn wrhT lbn wshmyh akha wlrbqh
Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. Laban ran out to the man, to the spring.
30
והוה כד חזא ית קדשא וית שיריא על ידי אחתיה וכד שמע ית פתגמי רבקה אחתיה למימר כדין מליל עמי גברא ואתא לות גברא והא קאם עלוי גמליא על עינא:
eyna el gmlya elwy qam wha gbra lwth watha gbra emy mlyl kdyn lmymr akhthyh rbqh pthgmy yth shme wkd akhthyh ydy el shyrya wyth qdsha yth khza kd whwh
When he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, “This is what the man said to me,” he came to the man. Behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.
31
ואמר עול בריכא דיי למא את קאם בברא ואנא פניתי ביתא ואתר כשר לגמליא:
lgmlya kshr wathr bytha pnythy wana bbra qam ath lma dyy bryka ewl wamr
He said, “Come in, you blessed of Yahweh. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.”
32
ועל גברא לביתא ושרא גמליא ויהב תבנא וכסתא לגמליא ומיא לאסחאה רגלוהי ורגלי גבריא דעמיה:
demyh gbrya wrgly rglwhy laskhah wmya lgmlya wkstha thbna wyhb gmlya wshra lbytha gbra wel
The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.
33
ושויאו קדמוהי למיכל ואמר לא איכול עד דאמלל פתגמי ואמר מלל:
mll wamr pthgmy damll ed aykwl la wamr lmykl qdmwhy wshwyaw
Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told my message.” Laban said, “Speak on.”
35
ויי בריך ית רבוני לחדא ורבא ויהב ליה עאן ותורין וכסף ודהב ועבדין ואמהן וגמלין וחמרין:
wkhmryn wgmlyn wamhn webdyn wdhb wksp wthwryn ean lyh wyhb wrba lkhda rbwny yth bryk wyy
Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. Yahweh has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.
36
וילידת שרה אתת רבוני בר לרבוני בתר דסיבת ויהב ליה ית כל דיליה:
dylyh kl yth lyh wyhb dsybth bthr lrbwny br rbwny athth shrh wylydth
Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him.
37
וקים עלי רבוני למימר לא תסב אתתא לברי מבנת כנענאי די אנא יתב בארעיה:
bareyh ythb ana dy knenay mbnth lbry aththa thsb la lmymr rbwny ely wqym
My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

אלהן לבית אבא תזיל ולזרעיתי ותסב אתתא לברי:
lbry aththa wthsb wlzreythy thzyl aba lbyth alhn
but you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’
39
ואמרית לרבוני מאים לא תיתי אתתא בתרי:
bthry aththa thythy la maym lrbwny wamryth
I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’
40
ואמר לי יי די פלחית קדמוהי ישלח מלאכיה עמך ויצלח ארחך ותסב אתתא לברי מזרעיתי ומבית אבא:
aba wmbyth mzreythy lbry aththa wthsb arkhk wytslkh emk mlakyh yshlkh qdmwhy plkhyth dy yy ly wamr
He said to me, ‘Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my relatives, and of my father’s house.
41
בכן תהי זכי ממומתי ארי תהך לזרעיתי ואם לא יתנון לך ותהי זכי ממומתי:
mmwmthy zky wthhy lk ythnwn la wam lzreythy thhk ary mmwmthy zky thhy bkn
Then you will be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.’
42
ואתית יומא דין לעינא ואמרית יי אלהא דרבוני אברהם אם אית כען רעוא קדמך לאצלחא ארחי די אנא אזיל עלה:
elh azyl ana dy arkhy latslkha qdmk rewa ken ayth am abrhm drbwny alha yy wamryth leyna dyn ywma wathyth
I came today to the spring, and said, ‘Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go—
43
הא אנא קאם על עינא דמיא ויהי עולמתא דתפוק לממלי ואימר לה אשקיני כען זעיר מיא מקולתיך:
mqwlthyk mya zeyr ken ashqyny lh waymr lmmly dthpwq ewlmtha wyhy dmya eyna el qam ana ha
behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, “Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,”
44
ותימר לי אף את אשת ואף לגמלך אמלי היא אתתא דזמין יי לבר רבוני:
rbwny lbr yy dzmyn aththa hya amly lgmlk wap ashth ath ap ly wthymr
then she tells me, “Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,”—let her be the woman whom Yahweh has appointed for my master’s son.’
45
אנא עד לא שיציתי למללא בלבי והא רבקה נפקת וקולתה על כתפה ונחתת לעינא ומלת ואמרית לה אשקיני כען:
ken ashqyny lh wamryth wmlth leyna wnkhthth kthph el wqwlthh npqth rbqh wha blby lmlla shytsythy la ed ana
Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’
46
ואוחיאת ואחיתת קולתה מנה ואמרת אשת ואף גמלך אשקי ושתיתי ואף גמליא אשקיאת:
ashqyath gmlya wap wshthythy ashqy gmlk wap ashth wamrth mnh qwlthh wakhythth wawkhyath
She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.’ So I drank, and she also gave the camels a drink.
47
ושאילית יתה ואמרית בת מן את ואמרת בת בתואל בר נחור דילידת ליה מלכה ושויתי קדשא על אפה ושיריא על ידהא:
ydha el wshyrya aph el qdsha wshwythy mlkh lyh dylydth nkhwr br bthwal bth wamrth ath mn bth wamryth ythh wshaylyth
I asked her, and said, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands.
48
וכרעית וסגדית קדם יי וברכית ית יי אלהה דרבוני אברהם דדברני באורח קשוט למיסב ית בת אחוהי דרבוני לבריה:
lbryh drbwny akhwhy bth yth lmysb qshwT bawrkh ddbrny abrhm drbwny alhh yy yth wbrkyth yy qdm wsgdyth wkreyth
I bowed my head, and worshiped Yahweh, and blessed Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter for his son.
49
וכען אם איתיכון עבדין טיבו וקשוט עם רבוני חוו לי ואם לא חוו לי ואתפני על ימינא או על שמאלא:
shmala el aw ymyna el wathpny ly khww la wam ly khww rbwny em wqshwT Tybw ebdyn aythykwn am wken
Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.”
50
ואתיב לבן ובתואל ואמרו מן קדם יי נפק פתגמא לית אנחנא יכלין למללא עמך ביש או טב:
Tb aw bysh emk lmlla yklyn ankhna lyth pthgma npq yy qdm mn wamrw wbthwal lbn wathyb
Then Laban and Bethuel answered, “The thing proceeds from Yahweh. We can’t speak to you bad or good.
51
הא רבקה קדמך דבר ואיזיל ותהי אתתא לבר רבונך כמא די מלל יי:
yy mll dy kma rbwnk lbr aththa wthhy wayzyl dbr qdmk rbqh ha
Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”
52
והוה כד שמע עבדא דאברהם ית פתגמיהון וסגד על ארעא קדם יי:
yy qdm area el wsgd pthgmyhwn yth dabrhm ebda shme kd whwh
When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to Yahweh.
53
ואפק עבדא מנין דכסף ומנין דדהב ולבושין ויהב לרבקה ומגדנין יהב לאחוהא ולאמה:
wlamh lakhwha yhb wmgdnyn lrbqh wyhb wlbwshyn ddhb wmnyn dksp mnyn ebda wapq
The servant brought out jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and her mother.
54
ואכלו ושתיאו הוא וגובריא די עמיה ובתו וקמו בצפרא ואמר שלחוני לות רבוני:
rbwny lwth shlkhwny wamr btspra wqmw wbthw emyh dy wgwbrya hwa wshthyaw waklw
They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.”
55
ואמר אחוהא ואמה תתיב עולמתא עמנא עדן בעדן או עשרא ירחין בתר כן תיזיל:
thyzyl kn bthr yrkhyn eshra aw bedn edn emna ewlmtha ththyb wamh akhwha wamr
Her brother and her mother said, “Let the young lady stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go.”
56
ואמר להון לא תאחרון יתי ויי אצלח ארחי שלחוני ואיהך לות רבוני:
rbwny lwth wayhk shlkhwny arkhy atslkh wyy ythy thakhrwn la lhwn wamr
He said to them, “Don’t hinder me, since Yahweh has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”
57
ואמרו נקרי לעולמתא ונשמע מה דהיא אמרה:
amrh dhya mh wnshme lewlmtha nqry wamrw
They said, “We will call the young lady, and ask her.”
58
וקרו לרבקה ואמרו לה התיזלי עם גברא הדין ואמרת איזיל:
ayzyl wamrth hdyn gbra em hthyzly lh wamrw lrbqh wqrw
They called Rebekah, and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” She said, “I will go.”
59
ושלחו ית רבקה אחתהון וית מנקתה וית עבדא דאברהם וית גברוהי:
gbrwhy wyth dabrhm ebda wyth mnqthh wyth akhthhwn rbqh yth wshlkhw
They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham’s servant, and his men.
60
ובריכו ית רבקה ואמרו לה אחתנא את הוי לאלפין ולרבון וירתון בניכי ית קרוי סנאיהון:
snayhwn qrwy yth bnyky wyrthwn wlrbwn lalpyn hwy ath akhthna lh wamrw rbqh yth wbrykw
They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, “Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your offspring possess the gate of those who hate them.”
61
וקמת רבקה ועולמתהא ורכיבא על גמליא ואזלת בתר גברא ודבר עבדא ית רבקה ואזל:
wazl rbqh yth ebda wdbr gbra bthr wazlth gmlya el wrkyba wewlmthha rbqh wqmth
Rebekah arose with her ladies. They rode on the camels, and followed the man. The servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62
ויצחק אתא ממתוהי מבירא דמלאך קימא אתחזי עלה והוא יתב בארע דרומא:
drwma bare ythb whwa elh athkhzy qyma dmlak mbyra mmthwhy atha wytskhq
Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he lived in the land of the South.
63
ונפק יצחק לצלאה בחקלא למפני רמשא וזקף עינוהי וחזא והא גמליא אתן:
athn gmlya wha wkhza eynwhy wzqp rmsha lmpny bkhqla ltslah ytskhq wnpq
Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the evening. He lifted up his eyes and looked. Behold, there were camels coming.
64
וזקפת רבקה ית עינהא וחזת ית יצחק ואתרכינת מעל גמלא:
gmla mel wathrkynth ytskhq yth wkhzth eynha yth rbqh wzqpth
Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she got off the camel.
65
ואמרת לעבדא מן גברא דיכי דמהלך בחקלא לקדמותנא ואמר עבדא הוא רבוני ונסיבת עיפא ואתכסיאת:
wathksyath eypa wnsybth rbwny hwa ebda wamr lqdmwthna bkhqla dmhlk dyky gbra mn lebda wamrth
She said to the servant, “Who is the man who is walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” She took her veil, and covered herself.
66
ואשתעי עבדא ליצחק ית כל פתגמיא די עבד:
ebd dy pthgmya kl yth lytskhq ebda washthey
The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
67
ואעלה יצחק למשכנא וחזא והא תקנין עובדהא כעובדי שרה אמיה ונסיב ית רבקה והות ליה לאנתו ורחימה ואתנחם יצחק בתר דמיתת אמיה:
amyh dmythth bthr ytskhq wathnkhm wrkhymh lanthw lyh whwth rbqh yth wnsyb amyh shrh kewbdy ewbdha thqnyn wha wkhza lmshkna ytskhq waelh
Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
