ואברהם סיב על ביומין ויי בריך ית אברהם בכלא:

Abraham was old, and well advanced in age. Yahweh had blessed Abraham in all things.

ואמר אברהם לעבדיה סבא דביתיה דשליט בכל די ליה שוי כען ידך תחות ירכי:
wamr abrhm lebdyh sba dbythyh dshlyT bkl dy lyh shwy ken ydk thkhwth yrky
Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please put your hand under my thigh.

ואקים עלך במימרא דיי אלהא דשמיא ואלהא דארעא דלא תסב אתתא לברי מבנת כנענאי די אנא יתב ביניהון:
waqym elk bmymra dyy alha dshmya walha darea dla thsb aththa lbry mbnth knenay dy ana ythb bynyhwn
I will make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

אלהין לארעי ולילדותי תיזיל ותסב אתתא לברי ליצחק:
alhyn larey wlyldwthy thyzyl wthsb aththa lbry lytskhq
But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
5
ואמר ליה עבדא מאים לא תיבי אתתא למיתי בתרי לארעא הדא האתבא אתיב ית ברך לארעא די נפקתא מתמן:
wamr lyh ebda maym la thyby aththa lmythy bthry larea hda hathba athyb yth brk larea dy npqtha mthmn
The servant said to him, “What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?”

ואמר ליה אברהם אסתמר לך דילמא תתיב ית ברי לתמן:
wamr lyh abrhm asthmr lk dylma ththyb yth bry lthmn
Abraham said to him, “Beware that you don’t bring my son there again.
7
יי אלהא דשמיא די דברני מבית אבא ומארע ילדותי ודי מלל לי ודי קים לי למימר לברך אתן ית ארעא הדא הוא ישלח מלאכיה קדמך ותסב אתתא לברי מתמן:
yy alha dshmya dy dbrny mbyth aba wmare yldwthy wdy mll ly wdy qym ly lmymr lbrk athn yth area hda hwa yshlkh mlakyh qdmk wthsb aththa lbry mthmn
Yahweh, the God of heaven—who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your offspring—he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

ואם לא תיבי אתתא למיתי בתרך ותהי זכאה ממומתי דא לחוד ית ברי לא תתב לתמן:
wam la thyby aththa lmythy bthrk wthhy zkah mmwmthy da lkhwd yth bry la ththb lthmn
If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again.”

ושוי עבדא ית ידיה תחות ירכא דאברהם רבוניה וקים ליה על פתגמא הדין:
wshwy ebda yth ydyh thkhwth yrka dabrhm rbwnyh wqym lyh el pthgma hdyn
The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

ודבר עבדא עשרא גמלין מגמלי רבונה ואזל וכל שפר רבוניה בידיה וקם ואזל לארם די על פרת לקרתא דנחור:
wdbr ebda eshra gmlyn mgmly rbwnh wazl wkl shpr rbwnyh bydyh wqm wazl larm dy el prth lqrtha dnkhwr
The servant took ten of his master’s camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master’s with him. He arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

ואשרי גמליא מברא לקרתא לבארא דמיא לעדן רמשא לעדן דנפקן מליתא:
washry gmlya mbra lqrtha lbara dmya ledn rmsha ledn dnpqn mlytha
He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.

ואמר יי אלהה דרבוני אברהם זמין כען קדמי יומא דין ועבד טיבו עם רבוני אברהם:
wamr yy alhh drbwny abrhm zmyn ken qdmy ywma dyn webd Tybw em rbwny abrhm
He said, “Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

הא אנא קאם על עינא דמיא ובנת אנשי קרתא נפקן לממלי מיא:
ha ana qam el eyna dmya wbnth anshy qrtha npqn lmmly mya
Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.
14
ותהי עולמתא דאימר לה ארכיני כען קולתיך ואשתי ותימר אשת ואף גמלך אשקי יתה זמנתא לעבדך ליצחק ובה אידע ארי עבדת טיבו עם רבוני:
wthhy ewlmtha daymr lh arkyny ken qwlthyk washthy wthymr ashth wap gmlk ashqy ythh zmntha lebdk lytskhq wbh ayde ary ebdth Tybw em rbwny
Let it happen, that the young lady to whom I will say, ‘Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,’ then she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,’—let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

והוה הוא עד לא שיצי למללא והא רבקה נפקת דאתילידת לבתואל בר מלכה אתת נחור אחוהי דאברהם וקולתה על כתפה:
whwh hwa ed la shytsy lmlla wha rbqh npqth dathylydth lbthwal br mlkh athth nkhwr akhwhy dabrhm wqwlthh el kthph
Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.

ועולמתא שפירת חיזו לחדא בתלתא וגבר לא ידעה ונחתת לעינא ומלת קולתה וסלקת:
wewlmtha shpyrth khyzw lkhda bthltha wgbr la ydeh wnkhthth leyna wmlth qwlthh wslqth
The young lady was very beautiful to look at, a virgin. No man had known her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up.

ורהט עבדא לקדמותה ואמר אשקיני כען זעיר מיא מקולתיך:
wrhT ebda lqdmwthh wamr ashqyny ken zeyr mya mqwlthyk
The servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.”
18
ואמרת אשת רבוני ואוחיאת ואחיתת קולתה על ידה ואשקתיה:
wamrth ashth rbwny wawkhyath wakhythth qwlthh el ydh washqthyh
She said, “Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him a drink.
19
ושיציאת לאשקיותיה ואמרת אף לגמלך אמלי עד די ספקון למשתי:
wshytsyath lashqywthyh wamrth ap lgmlk amly ed dy spqwn lmshthy
When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking.”
20
ואוחיאת ונפצת קולתה לבית שקיא ורהטת עוד לבירא לממלי ומלת לכל גמלוהי:
wawkhyath wnptsth qwlthh lbyth shqya wrhTth ewd lbyra lmmly wmlth lkl gmlwhy
She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.
21
וגברא שהי בה מסתכל שתיק למידע האצלח יי ארחיה אם לא:
wgbra shhy bh msthkl shthyq lmyde hatslkh yy arkhyh am la
The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.
22
והוה כד ספיקו גמליא למשתי ונסיב גברא קדשא דדהבא תקלא מתקליה ותרין שירין על ידהא מתקל עשר סלעין דדהבא מתקלהון:
whwh kd spyqw gmlya lmshthy wnsyb gbra qdsha ddhba thqla mthqlyh wthryn shyryn el ydha mthql eshr sleyn ddhba mthqlhwn
As the camels had finished drinking, the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,

ואמר בת מן את חוי כען לי האית בית אבוך אתר כשר לנא למבת:
wamr bth mn ath khwy ken ly hayth byth abwk athr kshr lna lmbth
and said, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father’s house for us to stay?”
24
ואמרת ליה בת בתואל אנא בר מלכא דילידת לנחור:
wamrth lyh bth bthwal ana br mlka dylydth lnkhwr
She said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.”
25
ואמרת ליה אף תבנא אף כסתא סגי עמנא אף אתר כשר למבת:
wamrth lyh ap thbna ap kstha sgy emna ap athr kshr lmbth
She said moreover to him, “We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge in.”
26
וכרע גברא וסגיד קדם יי:
wkre gbra wsgyd qdm yy
The man bowed his head, and worshiped Yahweh.
27
ואמר בריך יי אלהא דרבוני אברהם די לא מנע טיבותיה וקושטיה מן רבוני אנא באורח תקנא דברני יי בית אחוהי דרבוני:
wamr bryk yy alha drbwny abrhm dy la mne Tybwthyh wqwshTyh mn rbwny ana bawrkh thqna dbrny yy byth akhwhy drbwny
He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me on the way to the house of my master’s relatives.”

ורהטת עולמתא וחויאת לבית אמה כפתגמיא האלין:
wrhTth ewlmtha wkhwyath lbyth amh kpthgmya halyn
The young lady ran, and told her mother’s house about these words.
29
ולרבקה אחא ושמיה לבן ורהט לבן לות גברא לברא לות עינא:
wlrbqh akha wshmyh lbn wrhT lbn lwth gbra lbra lwth eyna
Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. Laban ran out to the man, to the spring.
30
והוה כד חזא ית קדשא וית שיריא על ידי אחתיה וכד שמע ית פתגמי רבקה אחתיה למימר כדין מליל עמי גברא ואתא לות גברא והא קאם עלוי גמליא על עינא:
whwh kd khza yth qdsha wyth shyrya el ydy akhthyh wkd shme yth pthgmy rbqh akhthyh lmymr kdyn mlyl emy gbra watha lwth gbra wha qam elwy gmlya el eyna
When he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, “This is what the man said to me,” he came to the man. Behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.
31
ואמר עול בריכא דיי למא את קאם בברא ואנא פניתי ביתא ואתר כשר לגמליא:
wamr ewl bryka dyy lma ath qam bbra wana pnythy bytha wathr kshr lgmlya
He said, “Come in, you blessed of Yahweh. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.”
32
ועל גברא לביתא ושרא גמליא ויהב תבנא וכסתא לגמליא ומיא לאסחאה רגלוהי ורגלי גבריא דעמיה:
wel gbra lbytha wshra gmlya wyhb thbna wkstha lgmlya wmya laskhah rglwhy wrgly gbrya demyh
The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.
33
ושויאו קדמוהי למיכל ואמר לא איכול עד דאמלל פתגמי ואמר מלל:
wshwyaw qdmwhy lmykl wamr la aykwl ed damll pthgmy wamr mll
Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told my message.” Laban said, “Speak on.”
35
ויי בריך ית רבוני לחדא ורבא ויהב ליה עאן ותורין וכסף ודהב ועבדין ואמהן וגמלין וחמרין:
wyy bryk yth rbwny lkhda wrba wyhb lyh ean wthwryn wksp wdhb webdyn wamhn wgmlyn wkhmryn
Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. Yahweh has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.
36
וילידת שרה אתת רבוני בר לרבוני בתר דסיבת ויהב ליה ית כל דיליה:
wylydth shrh athth rbwny br lrbwny bthr dsybth wyhb lyh yth kl dylyh
Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him.
37
וקים עלי רבוני למימר לא תסב אתתא לברי מבנת כנענאי די אנא יתב בארעיה:
wqym ely rbwny lmymr la thsb aththa lbry mbnth knenay dy ana ythb bareyh
My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,
38
אלהן לבית אבא תזיל ולזרעיתי ותסב אתתא לברי:
alhn lbyth aba thzyl wlzreythy wthsb aththa lbry
but you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’
39
ואמרית לרבוני מאים לא תיתי אתתא בתרי:
wamryth lrbwny maym la thythy aththa bthry
I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’
40
ואמר לי יי די פלחית קדמוהי ישלח מלאכיה עמך ויצלח ארחך ותסב אתתא לברי מזרעיתי ומבית אבא:
wamr ly yy dy plkhyth qdmwhy yshlkh mlakyh emk wytslkh arkhk wthsb aththa lbry mzreythy wmbyth aba
He said to me, ‘Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my relatives, and of my father’s house.
41
בכן תהי זכי ממומתי ארי תהך לזרעיתי ואם לא יתנון לך ותהי זכי ממומתי:
bkn thhy zky mmwmthy ary thhk lzreythy wam la ythnwn lk wthhy zky mmwmthy
Then you will be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.’
42
ואתית יומא דין לעינא ואמרית יי אלהא דרבוני אברהם אם אית כען רעוא קדמך לאצלחא ארחי די אנא אזיל עלה:
wathyth ywma dyn leyna wamryth yy alha drbwny abrhm am ayth ken rewa qdmk latslkha arkhy dy ana azyl elh
I came today to the spring, and said, ‘Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go—
43
הא אנא קאם על עינא דמיא ויהי עולמתא דתפוק לממלי ואימר לה אשקיני כען זעיר מיא מקולתיך:
ha ana qam el eyna dmya wyhy ewlmtha dthpwq lmmly waymr lh ashqyny ken zeyr mya mqwlthyk
behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, “Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,”
44
ותימר לי אף את אשת ואף לגמלך אמלי היא אתתא דזמין יי לבר רבוני:
wthymr ly ap ath ashth wap lgmlk amly hya aththa dzmyn yy lbr rbwny
then she tells me, “Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,”—let her be the woman whom Yahweh has appointed for my master’s son.’
45
אנא עד לא שיציתי למללא בלבי והא רבקה נפקת וקולתה על כתפה ונחתת לעינא ומלת ואמרית לה אשקיני כען:
ana ed la shytsythy lmlla blby wha rbqh npqth wqwlthh el kthph wnkhthth leyna wmlth wamryth lh ashqyny ken
Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’
46
ואוחיאת ואחיתת קולתה מנה ואמרת אשת ואף גמלך אשקי ושתיתי ואף גמליא אשקיאת:
wawkhyath wakhythth qwlthh mnh wamrth ashth wap gmlk ashqy wshthythy wap gmlya ashqyath
She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.’ So I drank, and she also gave the camels a drink.
47
ושאילית יתה ואמרית בת מן את ואמרת בת בתואל בר נחור דילידת ליה מלכה ושויתי קדשא על אפה ושיריא על ידהא:
wshaylyth ythh wamryth bth mn ath wamrth bth bthwal br nkhwr dylydth lyh mlkh wshwythy qdsha el aph wshyrya el ydha
I asked her, and said, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands.

וכרעית וסגדית קדם יי וברכית ית יי אלהה דרבוני אברהם דדברני באורח קשוט למיסב ית בת אחוהי דרבוני לבריה:
wkreyth wsgdyth qdm yy wbrkyth yth yy alhh drbwny abrhm ddbrny bawrkh qshwT lmysb yth bth akhwhy drbwny lbryh
I bowed my head, and worshiped Yahweh, and blessed Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter for his son.
49
וכען אם איתיכון עבדין טיבו וקשוט עם רבוני חוו לי ואם לא חוו לי ואתפני על ימינא או על שמאלא:
wken am aythykwn ebdyn Tybw wqshwT em rbwny khww ly wam la khww ly wathpny el ymyna aw el shmala
Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.”
50
ואתיב לבן ובתואל ואמרו מן קדם יי נפק פתגמא לית אנחנא יכלין למללא עמך ביש או טב:
wathyb lbn wbthwal wamrw mn qdm yy npq pthgma lyth ankhna yklyn lmlla emk bysh aw Tb
Then Laban and Bethuel answered, “The thing proceeds from Yahweh. We can’t speak to you bad or good.
51
הא רבקה קדמך דבר ואיזיל ותהי אתתא לבר רבונך כמא די מלל יי:
ha rbqh qdmk dbr wayzyl wthhy aththa lbr rbwnk kma dy mll yy
Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”
52
והוה כד שמע עבדא דאברהם ית פתגמיהון וסגד על ארעא קדם יי:
whwh kd shme ebda dabrhm yth pthgmyhwn wsgd el area qdm yy
When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to Yahweh.
53
ואפק עבדא מנין דכסף ומנין דדהב ולבושין ויהב לרבקה ומגדנין יהב לאחוהא ולאמה:
wapq ebda mnyn dksp wmnyn ddhb wlbwshyn wyhb lrbqh wmgdnyn yhb lakhwha wlamh
The servant brought out jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and her mother.

ואכלו ושתיאו הוא וגובריא די עמיה ובתו וקמו בצפרא ואמר שלחוני לות רבוני:
waklw wshthyaw hwa wgwbrya dy emyh wbthw wqmw btspra wamr shlkhwny lwth rbwny
They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.”
55
ואמר אחוהא ואמה תתיב עולמתא עמנא עדן בעדן או עשרא ירחין בתר כן תיזיל:
wamr akhwha wamh ththyb ewlmtha emna edn bedn aw eshra yrkhyn bthr kn thyzyl
Her brother and her mother said, “Let the young lady stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go.”
56
ואמר להון לא תאחרון יתי ויי אצלח ארחי שלחוני ואיהך לות רבוני:
wamr lhwn la thakhrwn ythy wyy atslkh arkhy shlkhwny wayhk lwth rbwny
He said to them, “Don’t hinder me, since Yahweh has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”
57
ואמרו נקרי לעולמתא ונשמע מה דהיא אמרה:
wamrw nqry lewlmtha wnshme mh dhya amrh
They said, “We will call the young lady, and ask her.”
58
וקרו לרבקה ואמרו לה התיזלי עם גברא הדין ואמרת איזיל:
wqrw lrbqh wamrw lh hthyzly em gbra hdyn wamrth ayzyl
They called Rebekah, and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” She said, “I will go.”
59
ושלחו ית רבקה אחתהון וית מנקתה וית עבדא דאברהם וית גברוהי:
wshlkhw yth rbqh akhthhwn wyth mnqthh wyth ebda dabrhm wyth gbrwhy
They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham’s servant, and his men.
60
ובריכו ית רבקה ואמרו לה אחתנא את הוי לאלפין ולרבון וירתון בניכי ית קרוי סנאיהון:
wbrykw yth rbqh wamrw lh akhthna ath hwy lalpyn wlrbwn wyrthwn bnyky yth qrwy snayhwn
They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, “Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your offspring possess the gate of those who hate them.”
61
וקמת רבקה ועולמתהא ורכיבא על גמליא ואזלת בתר גברא ודבר עבדא ית רבקה ואזל:
wqmth rbqh wewlmthha wrkyba el gmlya wazlth bthr gbra wdbr ebda yth rbqh wazl
Rebekah arose with her ladies. They rode on the camels, and followed the man. The servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62
ויצחק אתא ממתוהי מבירא דמלאך קימא אתחזי עלה והוא יתב בארע דרומא:
wytskhq atha mmthwhy mbyra dmlak qyma athkhzy elh whwa ythb bare drwma
Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he lived in the land of the South.
63
ונפק יצחק לצלאה בחקלא למפני רמשא וזקף עינוהי וחזא והא גמליא אתן:
wnpq ytskhq ltslah bkhqla lmpny rmsha wzqp eynwhy wkhza wha gmlya athn
Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the evening. He lifted up his eyes and looked. Behold, there were camels coming.
64
וזקפת רבקה ית עינהא וחזת ית יצחק ואתרכינת מעל גמלא:
wzqpth rbqh yth eynha wkhzth yth ytskhq wathrkynth mel gmla
Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she got off the camel.
65
ואמרת לעבדא מן גברא דיכי דמהלך בחקלא לקדמותנא ואמר עבדא הוא רבוני ונסיבת עיפא ואתכסיאת:
wamrth lebda mn gbra dyky dmhlk bkhqla lqdmwthna wamr ebda hwa rbwny wnsybth eypa wathksyath
She said to the servant, “Who is the man who is walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” She took her veil, and covered herself.
66
ואשתעי עבדא ליצחק ית כל פתגמיא די עבד:
washthey ebda lytskhq yth kl pthgmya dy ebd
The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
67
ואעלה יצחק למשכנא וחזא והא תקנין עובדהא כעובדי שרה אמיה ונסיב ית רבקה והות ליה לאנתו ורחימה ואתנחם יצחק בתר דמיתת אמיה:
waelh ytskhq lmshkna wkhza wha thqnyn ewbdha kewbdy shrh amyh wnsyb yth rbqh whwth lyh lanthw wrkhymh wathnkhm ytskhq bthr dmythth amyh
Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
