והוו חיי שרה מאה ועשרין ושבע שנין שני חיי שרה:

Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah’s life.

ומיתת שרה בקרית ארבע היא חברון בארעא דכנען ואתא אברהם למספדה לשרה ולמבכה:
wmythth shrh bqryth arbe hya khbrwn barea dknen watha abrhm lmspdh lshrh wlmbkh
Sarah died in Kiriath Arba (also called Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

וקם אברהם מעל אפי מיתיה ומלל עם בני חתאה למימר:
wqm abrhm mel apy mythyh wmll em bny khthah lmymr
Abraham rose up from before his dead and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,

דיר ותותב אנא עמכון הבו לי אחסנת קבורא עמכון ואקבר מיתי מן קדמי:
dyr wthwthb ana emkwn hbw ly akhsnth qbwra emkwn waqbr mythy mn qdmy
“I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

ואתיבו בני חתאה ית אברהם למימר ליה:
wathybw bny khthah yth abrhm lmymr lyh
The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

קבל מננא רבוננא רב קדם יי את ביננא בשפר קברנא קבר ית מיתך אנש מננא ית קבריה לא ימנע מנך מלמקבר מיתך:
qbl mnna rbwnna rb qdm yy ath bynna bshpr qbrna qbr yth mythk ansh mnna yth qbryh la ymne mnk mlmqbr mythk
“Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb. Bury your dead.”

וקם אברהם וסגיד לעמא דארעא לבני חתאה:
wqm abrhm wsgyd lema darea lbny khthah
Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.

ומליל עמהון למימר אם אית רעוא בנפשכון למקבר ית מיתי מן קדמי קבילו מני ובעו לי מן עפרון בר צוחר:
wmlyl emhwn lmymr am ayth rewa bnpshkwn lmqbr yth mythy mn qdmy qbylw mny wbew ly mn eprwn br tswkhr
He talked with them, saying, “If you agree that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

ויתן לי ית מערת כפלתא די ליה די בסטר חקליה בכספא שלים יתנינה לי ביניכון לאחסנת קבורא:
wythn ly yth merth kpltha dy lyh dy bsTr khqlyh bkspa shlym ythnynh ly bynykwn lakhsnth qbwra
that he may sell me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him sell it to me among you as a possession for a burial place.”

ועפרון יתב בגו בני חתאה ואתיב עפרון חתאה ית אברהם קדם בני חתאה לכל עלי תרע קרתיה למימר:
weprwn ythb bgw bny khthah wathyb eprwn khthah yth abrhm qdm bny khthah lkl ely thre qrthyh lmymr
Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,

לא רבוני קביל מני חקלא יהבית לך ומערתא די ביה לך יהביתה לעיני בני עמי יהביתה לך קבר מיתך:
la rbwny qbyl mny khqla yhbyth lk wmertha dy byh lk yhbythh leyny bny emy yhbythh lk qbr mythk
“No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead.”

וסגיד אברהם קדם עמא דארעא:
wsgyd abrhm qdm ema darea
Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.

ומליל עם עפרון קדם עמא דארעא למימר ברם אם את עבד לי טיבו קבל מני אתן כספא דמי חקלא סב מני ואקבר ית מיתי תמן:
wmlyl em eprwn qdm ema darea lmymr brm am ath ebd ly Tybw qbl mny athn kspa dmy khqla sb mny waqbr yth mythy thmn
He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, “But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.”

ואתיב עפרון ית אברהם למימר ליה:
wathyb eprwn yth abrhm lmymr lyh
Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

רבוני קבל מני ארעא שויא ארבע מאה סלעין דכסף בינא ובינך מה היא וית מיתך קבר:
rbwny qbl mny area shwya arbe mah sleyn dksp byna wbynk mh hya wyth mythk qbr
“My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.”

וקבל אברהם מן עפרון ותקל אברהם לעפרון ית כספא דמליל קדם בני חתאה ארבע מאה סלעין דכסף מתקבל סחורא בכל מדינתא:
wqbl abrhm mn eprwn wthql abrhm leprwn yth kspa dmlyl qdm bny khthah arbe mah sleyn dksp mthqbl skhwra bkl mdyntha
Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.

וקם חקל עפרון די בכפלתא די קדם ממרא חקלא ומערתא די ביה וכל אילני די בחקלא די בכל תחומיה סחור סחור:
wqm khql eprwn dy bkpltha dy qdm mmra khqla wmertha dy byh wkl aylny dy bkhqla dy bkl thkhwmyh skhwr skhwr
So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded

לאברהם לזבינוהי לעיני בני חתאה בכל עלי תרע קרתיה:
labrhm lzbynwhy leyny bny khthah bkl ely thre qrthyh
to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

ובתר כן קבר אברהם ית שרה אתתיה במערת חקל כפלתא על אפי ממרא היא חברון בארעא דכנען:
wbthr kn qbr abrhm yth shrh aththyh bmerth khql kpltha el apy mmra hya khbrwn barea dknen
After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.

וקם חקלא ומערתא די ביה לאברהם לאחסנת קבורא מן בני חתאה:
wqm khqla wmertha dy byh labrhm lakhsnth qbwra mn bny khthah
The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham by the children of Heth as a possession for a burial place.
