ונטל מתמן אברהם לארעא דרומא ויתב בין רקם ובין חגרא ואתותב בגרר:

Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.

ואמר אברהם על שרה אתתיה אחתי היא ושלח אבימלך מלכא דגרר ודבר ית שרה:
wamr abrhm el shrh aththyh akhthy hya wshlkh abymlk mlka dgrr wdbr yth shrh
Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

ואתא מימר מן קדם יי לות אבימלך בחלמא דליליא ואמר ליה הא את מית על עיסק אתתא דדברתא והיא אתת גבר:
watha mymr mn qdm yy lwth abymlk bkhlma dlylya wamr lyh ha ath myth el eysq aththa ddbrtha whya athth gbr
But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.”

ואבימלך לא קרב לותה ואמר יי העם אף זכאי תקטול:
wabymlk la qrb lwthh wamr yy hem ap zkay thqTwl
Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?

הלא הוא אמר לי אחתי היא והיא אף היא אמרת אחי הוא בקשיטות לבי ובזכאות ידי עבדית דא:
hla hwa amr ly akhthy hya whya ap hya amrth akhy hwa bqshyTwth lby wbzkawth ydy ebdyth da
Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister’? She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”

ואמר ליה מימר מן קדם יי בחלמא אף קדמי גלי ארי בקשיטות לבך עבדת דא ומנעית אף אנא יתך מלמחטי קדמי על כן לא שבקתך למקרב לותה:
wamr lyh mymr mn qdm yy bkhlma ap qdmy gly ary bqshyTwth lbk ebdth da wmneyth ap ana ythk mlmkhTy qdmy el kn la shbqthk lmqrb lwthh
God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.

וכען אתיב אתת גברא ארי נביא הוא ויצלי עלך ותחי ואם ליתך מתיב דע ארי מימת תמות את וכל די לך:
wken athyb athth gbra ary nbya hwa wytsly elk wthkhy wam lythk mthyb de ary mymth thmwth ath wkl dy lk
Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”

ואקדים אבימלך בצפרא וקרא לכל עבדוהי ומליל ית כל פתגמיא האלין קדמיהון ודחילו גובריא לחדא:
waqdym abymlk btspra wqra lkl ebdwhy wmlyl yth kl pthgmya halyn qdmyhwn wdkhylw gwbrya lkhda
Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.

וקרא אבימלך לאברהם ואמר ליה מה עבדת לנא ומה חבית לך ארי איתיתא עלי ועל מלכותי חובא רבא עובדין די לא כשרין לאתעבדא עבדת עמי:
wqra abymlk labrhm wamr lyh mh ebdth lna wmh khbyth lk ary aythytha ely wel mlkwthy khwba rba ewbdyn dy la kshryn lathebda ebdth emy
Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!”

ואמר אבימלך לאברהם מה חזית ארי עבדת ית פתגמא הדין:
wamr abymlk labrhm mh khzyth ary ebdth yth pthgma hdyn
Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”

ואמר אברהם ארי אמרית לחוד לית דחלתא דיי באתרא הדין ויקטלנני על עיסק אתתי:
wamr abrhm ary amryth lkhwd lyth dkhltha dyy bathra hdyn wyqTlnny el eysq aththy
Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’

וברם בקושטא אחתי בת אבא היא ברם לא בת אמי והות לי לאנתו:
wbrm bqwshTa akhthy bth aba hya brm la bth amy whwth ly lanthw
Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

והוה כד טעו עממיא בתר עובדי ידיהון יתי קריב יי לדחלתיה מבית אבא ואמרית לה דין טיבותיך די תעבדי עמי לכל אתרא דנהך לתמן אמרי עלי אחי הוא:
whwh kd Tew emmya bthr ewbdy ydyhwn ythy qryb yy ldkhlthyh mbyth aba wamryth lh dyn Tybwthyk dy thebdy emy lkl athra dnhk lthmn amry ely akhy hwa
When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

ודבר אבימלך עאן ותורין ועבדין ואמהן ויהב לאברהם ואתיב ליה ית שרה אתתיה:
wdbr abymlk ean wthwryn webdyn wamhn wyhb labrhm wathyb lyh yth shrh aththyh
Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.

ואמר אבימלך הא ארעי קדמך בדתקין בעיניך תיב:
wamr abymlk ha arey qdmk bdthqyn beynyk thyb
Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.”
16
ולשרה אמר הא יהבית אלף סלעין דכסף לאחיך הא הוא ליך כסות דיקר חלף דשלחית דברתיך וחזית יתיך וית כל דעמך ועל כל מה דאמרת אתוכחת:
wlshrh amr ha yhbyth alp sleyn dksp lakhyk ha hwa lyk kswth dyqr khlp dshlkhyth dbrthyk wkhzyth ythyk wyth kl demk wel kl mh damrth athwkkhth
To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.”

וצלי אברהם קדם יי ואסי יי ית אבימלך וית אתתיה ואמהתיה ואתרוחו:
wtsly abrhm qdm yy wasy yy yth abymlk wyth aththyh wamhthyh wathrwkhw
Abraham prayed to God. So God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.

ארי מיחד אחד יי באפי כל פתח ולדא לבית אבימלך על עיסק שרה אתת אברהם:
ary mykhd akhd yy bapy kl pthkh wlda lbyth abymlk el eysq shrh athth abrhm
For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
