1
ואתגלי ליה יי במשרי ממרא והוא יתב בתרע משכנא כמיחם יומא:
ywma kmykhm mshkna bthre ythb whwa mmra bmshry yy lyh wathgly
Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

וזקף עינוהי וחזא והא תלתא גברין קימין עלווהי וחזא ורהט לקדמותהון מתרע משכנא וסגיד על ארעא:
area el wsgyd mshkna mthre lqdmwthhwn wrhT wkhza elwwhy qymyn gbryn thltha wha wkhza eynwhy wzqp
He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood near him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,

ואמר יי אם כען אשכחית רחמין קדמך לא כען תעבר מעל עבדך:
ebdk mel thebr ken la qdmk rkhmyn ashkkhyth ken am yy wamr
and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.

יסבון כען זעיר מיא ואסחו רגליכון ואסתמיכו תחות אילנא:
aylna thkhwth wasthmykw rglykwn waskhw mya zeyr ken ysbwn
Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.

ואסב פתא דלחמא וסעידו לבכון בתר כן תעברון ארי על כן עברתון על עבדכון ואמרו כן תעביד כמא די מללתא:
mlltha dy kma thebyd kn wamrw ebdkwn el ebrthwn kn el ary thebrwn kn bthr lbkwn wseydw dlkhma ptha wasb
I will get a piece of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”

ואוחי אברהם למשכנא לות שרה ואמר אוחא תלת סאין קמחא דסלתא לושי ועבידי גריצן:
grytsn webydy lwshy dsltha qmkha sayn thlth awkha wamr shrh lwth lmshkna abrhm wawkhy
Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three seahs of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”

ולות תורי רהט אברהם ודבר בר תורי רכיך וטב ויהב לעולמא ואוחי למעבד יתיה:
ythyh lmebd wawkhy lewlma wyhb wTb rkyk thwry br wdbr abrhm rhT thwry wlwth
Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.

ונסיב שמן וחלב ובר תורי די עבד ויהב קדמיהון והוא משמש עלויהון תחות אילנא ואכלו:
waklw aylna thkhwth elwyhwn mshmsh whwa qdmyhwn wyhb ebd dy thwry wbr wkhlb shmn wnsyb
He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

ואמרו ליה אן שרה אתתך ואמר הא במשכנא:
bmshkna ha wamr aththk shrh an lyh wamrw
They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “There, in the tent.”

ואמר מתב אתוב לותך כעדן דאתון קימין והא בר לשרה אתתך ושרה שמעת בתרע משכנא והוא אחורוהי:
akhwrwhy whwa mshkna bthre shmeth wshrh aththk lshrh br wha qymyn dathwn kedn lwthk athwb mthb wamr
He said, “I will certainly return to you at about this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.

ואברהם ושרה סיבו עלו ביומין פסק מלמהוי לשרה אורח כנשיא:
knshya awrkh lshrh mlmhwy psq bywmyn elw sybw wshrh wabrhm
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.

וחיכת שרה במעהה למימר בתר דסיבית הות לי עולימו ורבוני סיב:
syb wrbwny ewlymw ly hwth dsybyth bthr lmymr bmehh shrh wkhykth
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”

ואמר יי לאברהם למא דנן חיכת שרה למימר הברם בקושטא אוליד ואנא סיבית:
sybyth wana awlyd bqwshTa hbrm lmymr shrh khykth dnn lma labrhm yy wamr
Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child when I am old?’

היתכסא מן קדם יי פתגמא לזמן אתוב לותך כעדן דאתון קימין ולשרה בר:
br wlshrh qymyn dathwn kedn lwthk athwb lzmn pthgma yy qdm mn hythksa
Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son.”

וכדיבת שרה למימר לא חיכית ארי דחילת ואמר לא ברם חיכת:
khykth brm la wamr dkhylth ary khykyth la lmymr shrh wkdybth
Then Sarah denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”

וקמו מתמן גבריא ואסתכיאו על אפי סדום ואברהם אזל עמהון לאלוואיהון:
lalwwayhwn emhwn azl wabrhm sdwm apy el wasthkyaw gbrya mthmn wqmw
The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.

ויי אמר המכסי אנא מאברהם די אנא עבד:
ebd ana dy mabrhm ana hmksy amr wyy
Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18
ואברהם מהוה יהוי לעם סגי ותקיף ויתברכון בדיליה כל עממי ארעא:
area emmy kl bdylyh wythbrkwn wthqyp sgy lem yhwy mhwh wabrhm
since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?

ארי גלי קדמי בדיל די יפקד ית בנוהי וית אנש ביתיה בתרוהי ויטרון ארחן דתקנן קדם יי למעבד צדקתא ודינא בדיל איתי יי על אברהם ית דמלל עלוהי:
elwhy dmll yth abrhm el yy aythy bdyl wdyna tsdqtha lmebd yy qdm dthqnn arkhn wyTrwn bthrwhy bythyh ansh wyth bnwhy yth ypqd dy bdyl qdmy gly ary
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

ואמר יי קבלת דסדום ועמורה ארי סגיאת וחובתהון ארי תקיפת לחדא:
lkhda thqypth ary wkhwbthhwn sgyath ary wemwrh dsdwm qblth yy wamr
Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,

אתגלי כען ואדון הכי קבלתהון דעלת לקדמי עבדו אעבד עמהון גמירא ואם תיבין לא אתפרע:
athpre la thybyn wam gmyra emhwn aebd ebdw lqdmy delth qblthhwn hky wadwn ken athgly
I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”

ואתפניאו מתמן גבריא ואזלו לסדום ואברהם עד כען משמש בצלו קדם יי:
yy qdm btslw mshmsh ken ed wabrhm lsdwm wazlw gbrya mthmn wathpnyaw
The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.

וקרב אברהם ואמר הברגז תשיצי זכאה עם חיבא:
khyba em zkah thshytsy hbrgz wamr abrhm wqrb
Abraham came near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24
מאים אית חמשין זכאין בגו קרתא הברגז תשיצי ולא תשבוק לאתרא בדיל חמשין זכאין די בגוה:
bgwh dy zkayn khmshyn bdyl lathra thshbwq wla thshytsy hbrgz qrtha bgw zkayn khmshyn ayth maym
What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?

קושטא אנון דינך מלמעבד כפתגמא הדין לקטלא זכאה עם חיבא ויהי זכאה כחיבא קושטא אנון דינך דדין כל ארעא לא יעבד דינא:
dyna yebd la area kl ddyn dynk anwn qwshTa kkhyba zkah wyhy khyba em zkah lqTla hdyn kpthgma mlmebd dynk anwn qwshTa
May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”

ואמר יי אם אשכח בסדום חמשין זכאין בגו קרתא ואשבוק לכל אתרא בדילהון:
bdylhwn athra lkl washbwq qrtha bgw zkayn khmshyn bsdwm ashkkh am yy wamr
Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

ואתב אברהם ואמר הא כען שריתי למללא קדם יי ואנא עפר וקטם:
wqTm epr wana yy qdm lmlla shrythy ken ha wamr abrhm wathb
Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.

מאים יחסרון חמשין זכאין חמשא התחבל בחמשא ית כל קרתא ואמר לא אחבל אם אשכח תמן ארבעין וחמשא:
wkhmsha arbeyn thmn ashkkh am akhbl la wamr qrtha kl yth bkhmsha hthkhbl khmsha zkayn khmshyn ykhsrwn maym
What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

ואוסיף עוד למללא קדמוהי ואמר מאים ישתכחון תמן ארבעין ואמר לא אעבד גמרא בדיל ארבעין:
arbeyn bdyl gmra aebd la wamr arbeyn thmn yshthkkhwn maym wamr qdmwhy lmlla ewd wawsyp
He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”

ואמר לא כען יתקף קדם דיי ואמלל מאים ישתכחון תמן תלתין ואמר לא אעבד גמרא אם אשכח תמן תלתין:
thlthyn thmn ashkkh am gmra aebd la wamr thlthyn thmn yshthkkhwn maym wamll dyy qdm ythqp ken la wamr
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

ואמר הא כען שריתי למללא קדם יי מאים ישתכחון תמן עשרין ואמר לא אחבל בדיל עשרין:
eshryn bdyl akhbl la wamr eshryn thmn yshthkkhwn maym yy qdm lmlla shrythy ken ha wamr
He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”
32
ואמר לא כען יתקף קדם יי ואמלל ברם זמנא הדא מאים ישתכחון תמן עשרא ואמר לא אחבל בדיל עשרא:
eshra bdyl akhbl la wamr eshra thmn yshthkkhwn maym hda zmna brm wamll yy qdm ythqp ken la wamr
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”
