ואתגלי ליה יי במשרי ממרא והוא יתב בתרע משכנא כמיחם יומא:
wathgly lyh yy bmshry mmra whwa ythb bthre mshkna kmykhm ywma
Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

וזקף עינוהי וחזא והא תלתא גברין קימין עלווהי וחזא ורהט לקדמותהון מתרע משכנא וסגיד על ארעא:
wzqp eynwhy wkhza wha thltha gbryn qymyn elwwhy wkhza wrhT lqdmwthhwn mthre mshkna wsgyd el area
He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood near him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,

ואמר יי אם כען אשכחית רחמין קדמך לא כען תעבר מעל עבדך:
wamr yy am ken ashkkhyth rkhmyn qdmk la ken thebr mel ebdk
and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.

יסבון כען זעיר מיא ואסחו רגליכון ואסתמיכו תחות אילנא:
ysbwn ken zeyr mya waskhw rglykwn wasthmykw thkhwth aylna
Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.

ואסב פתא דלחמא וסעידו לבכון בתר כן תעברון ארי על כן עברתון על עבדכון ואמרו כן תעביד כמא די מללתא:
wasb ptha dlkhma wseydw lbkwn bthr kn thebrwn ary el kn ebrthwn el ebdkwn wamrw kn thebyd kma dy mlltha
I will get a piece of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”

ואוחי אברהם למשכנא לות שרה ואמר אוחא תלת סאין קמחא דסלתא לושי ועבידי גריצן:
wawkhy abrhm lmshkna lwth shrh wamr awkha thlth sayn qmkha dsltha lwshy webydy grytsn
Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three seahs of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”

ולות תורי רהט אברהם ודבר בר תורי רכיך וטב ויהב לעולמא ואוחי למעבד יתיה:
wlwth thwry rhT abrhm wdbr br thwry rkyk wTb wyhb lewlma wawkhy lmebd ythyh
Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.

ונסיב שמן וחלב ובר תורי די עבד ויהב קדמיהון והוא משמש עלויהון תחות אילנא ואכלו:
wnsyb shmn wkhlb wbr thwry dy ebd wyhb qdmyhwn whwa mshmsh elwyhwn thkhwth aylna waklw
He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

ואמרו ליה אן שרה אתתך ואמר הא במשכנא:
wamrw lyh an shrh aththk wamr ha bmshkna
They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “There, in the tent.”

ואמר מתב אתוב לותך כעדן דאתון קימין והא בר לשרה אתתך ושרה שמעת בתרע משכנא והוא אחורוהי:
wamr mthb athwb lwthk kedn dathwn qymyn wha br lshrh aththk wshrh shmeth bthre mshkna whwa akhwrwhy
He said, “I will certainly return to you at about this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.

ואברהם ושרה סיבו עלו ביומין פסק מלמהוי לשרה אורח כנשיא:
wabrhm wshrh sybw elw bywmyn psq mlmhwy lshrh awrkh knshya
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.

וחיכת שרה במעהה למימר בתר דסיבית הות לי עולימו ורבוני סיב:
wkhykth shrh bmehh lmymr bthr dsybyth hwth ly ewlymw wrbwny syb
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”

ואמר יי לאברהם למא דנן חיכת שרה למימר הברם בקושטא אוליד ואנא סיבית:
wamr yy labrhm lma dnn khykth shrh lmymr hbrm bqwshTa awlyd wana sybyth
Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child when I am old?’

היתכסא מן קדם יי פתגמא לזמן אתוב לותך כעדן דאתון קימין ולשרה בר:
hythksa mn qdm yy pthgma lzmn athwb lwthk kedn dathwn qymyn wlshrh br
Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son.”

וכדיבת שרה למימר לא חיכית ארי דחילת ואמר לא ברם חיכת:
wkdybth shrh lmymr la khykyth ary dkhylth wamr la brm khykth
Then Sarah denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”

וקמו מתמן גבריא ואסתכיאו על אפי סדום ואברהם אזל עמהון לאלוואיהון:
wqmw mthmn gbrya wasthkyaw el apy sdwm wabrhm azl emhwn lalwwayhwn
The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.

ויי אמר המכסי אנא מאברהם די אנא עבד:
wyy amr hmksy ana mabrhm dy ana ebd
Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18
ואברהם מהוה יהוי לעם סגי ותקיף ויתברכון בדיליה כל עממי ארעא:
wabrhm mhwh yhwy lem sgy wthqyp wythbrkwn bdylyh kl emmy area
since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?

ארי גלי קדמי בדיל די יפקד ית בנוהי וית אנש ביתיה בתרוהי ויטרון ארחן דתקנן קדם יי למעבד צדקתא ודינא בדיל איתי יי על אברהם ית דמלל עלוהי:
ary gly qdmy bdyl dy ypqd yth bnwhy wyth ansh bythyh bthrwhy wyTrwn arkhn dthqnn qdm yy lmebd tsdqtha wdyna bdyl aythy yy el abrhm yth dmll elwhy
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

ואמר יי קבלת דסדום ועמורה ארי סגיאת וחובתהון ארי תקיפת לחדא:
wamr yy qblth dsdwm wemwrh ary sgyath wkhwbthhwn ary thqypth lkhda
Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,

אתגלי כען ואדון הכי קבלתהון דעלת לקדמי עבדו אעבד עמהון גמירא ואם תיבין לא אתפרע:
athgly ken wadwn hky qblthhwn delth lqdmy ebdw aebd emhwn gmyra wam thybyn la athpre
I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”

ואתפניאו מתמן גבריא ואזלו לסדום ואברהם עד כען משמש בצלו קדם יי:
wathpnyaw mthmn gbrya wazlw lsdwm wabrhm ed ken mshmsh btslw qdm yy
The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.

וקרב אברהם ואמר הברגז תשיצי זכאה עם חיבא:
wqrb abrhm wamr hbrgz thshytsy zkah em khyba
Abraham came near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24
מאים אית חמשין זכאין בגו קרתא הברגז תשיצי ולא תשבוק לאתרא בדיל חמשין זכאין די בגוה:
maym ayth khmshyn zkayn bgw qrtha hbrgz thshytsy wla thshbwq lathra bdyl khmshyn zkayn dy bgwh
What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?

קושטא אנון דינך מלמעבד כפתגמא הדין לקטלא זכאה עם חיבא ויהי זכאה כחיבא קושטא אנון דינך דדין כל ארעא לא יעבד דינא:
qwshTa anwn dynk mlmebd kpthgma hdyn lqTla zkah em khyba wyhy zkah kkhyba qwshTa anwn dynk ddyn kl area la yebd dyna
May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”

ואמר יי אם אשכח בסדום חמשין זכאין בגו קרתא ואשבוק לכל אתרא בדילהון:
wamr yy am ashkkh bsdwm khmshyn zkayn bgw qrtha washbwq lkl athra bdylhwn
Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

ואתב אברהם ואמר הא כען שריתי למללא קדם יי ואנא עפר וקטם:
wathb abrhm wamr ha ken shrythy lmlla qdm yy wana epr wqTm
Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.

מאים יחסרון חמשין זכאין חמשא התחבל בחמשא ית כל קרתא ואמר לא אחבל אם אשכח תמן ארבעין וחמשא:
maym ykhsrwn khmshyn zkayn khmsha hthkhbl bkhmsha yth kl qrtha wamr la akhbl am ashkkh thmn arbeyn wkhmsha
What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

ואוסיף עוד למללא קדמוהי ואמר מאים ישתכחון תמן ארבעין ואמר לא אעבד גמרא בדיל ארבעין:
wawsyp ewd lmlla qdmwhy wamr maym yshthkkhwn thmn arbeyn wamr la aebd gmra bdyl arbeyn
He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”

ואמר לא כען יתקף קדם דיי ואמלל מאים ישתכחון תמן תלתין ואמר לא אעבד גמרא אם אשכח תמן תלתין:
wamr la ken ythqp qdm dyy wamll maym yshthkkhwn thmn thlthyn wamr la aebd gmra am ashkkh thmn thlthyn
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

ואמר הא כען שריתי למללא קדם יי מאים ישתכחון תמן עשרין ואמר לא אחבל בדיל עשרין:
wamr ha ken shrythy lmlla qdm yy maym yshthkkhwn thmn eshryn wamr la akhbl bdyl eshryn
He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”
32
ואמר לא כען יתקף קדם יי ואמלל ברם זמנא הדא מאים ישתכחון תמן עשרא ואמר לא אחבל בדיל עשרא:
wamr la ken ythqp qdm yy wamll brm zmna hda maym yshthkkhwn thmn eshra wamr la akhbl bdyl eshra
He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”
33
ואסתלק יקרא דיי כד שצי למללא עם אברהם ואברהם תב לאתריה:
wasthlq yqra dyy kd shtsy lmlla em abrhm wabrhm thb lathryh
Yahweh went his way as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
