ושרי אתת אברם לא ילידת ליה ולה אמתא מצריתא ושמה הגר:
wshry athth abrm la ylydth lyh wlh amtha mtsrytha wshmh hgr
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, bore him no children. She had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

ואמרת שרי לאברם הא כען מנעני יי מלמילד עול כען לות אמתי מאם אתבני מנה וקביל אברם למימר שרי:
wamrth shry labrm ha ken mneny yy mlmyld ewl ken lwth amthy mam athbny mnh wqbyl abrm lmymr shry
Sarai said to Abram, “See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

ודברת שרי אתת אברם ית הגר מצריתא אמתה מסוף עשר שנין למתב אברם בארעא דכנען ויהבת יתה לאברם בעלה ליה לאנתו:
wdbrth shry athth abrm yth hgr mtsrytha amthh mswp eshr shnyn lmthb abrm barea dknen wyhbth ythh labrm belh lyh lanthw
Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.

ועל לות הגר ועדיאת וחזת ארי עדיאת וקלת רבנתה בעינהה:
wel lwth hgr wedyath wkhzth ary edyath wqlth rbnthh beynhh
He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

ואמרת שרי לאברם דין לי עלך אנא יהבית אמתי לך וחזת ארי עדיאת וקלית בעינהה ידין יי ביני ובינך:
wamrth shry labrm dyn ly elk ana yhbyth amthy lk wkhzth ary edyath wqlyth beynhh ydyn yy byny wbynk
Sarai said to Abram, “This wrong is your fault. I gave my servant into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, she despised me. May Yahweh judge between me and you.”

ואמר אברם לשרי הא אמתיך בידיך עבידי לה כדתקין בעיניכי ועניתה שרי וערקת מקדמהה:
wamr abrm lshry ha amthyk bydyk ebydy lh kdthqyn beynyky wenythh shry werqth mqdmhh
But Abram said to Sarai, “Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your eyes.” Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.

ואשכחה מלאכא דיי על עינא דמיא במדברא על עינא בארחא דחגרא:
washkkhh mlaka dyy el eyna dmya bmdbra el eyna barkha dkhgra
Yahweh’s angel found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.

ואמר הגר אמתא דשרי מנן את אתיא ולאן את אזלא ואמרת מן קדם שרי רבנתי אנא ערקא :
wamr hgr amtha dshry mnn ath athya wlan ath azla wamrth mn qdm shry rbnthy ana erqa
He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”

ואמר לה מלאכא דיי תובי לות רבונתך ואשתעבדי תחות ידהא:
wamr lh mlaka dyy thwby lwth rbwnthk washthebdy thkhwth ydha
Yahweh’s angel said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”

ואמר לה מלאכא דיי אסגאה אסגי ית בניכי ולא יתמנון מסגי:
wamr lh mlaka dyy asgah asgy yth bnyky wla ythmnwn msgy
Yahweh’s angel said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”

ואמר לה מלאכא דיי הא את מעדיא ותלדין בר ותקרין שמיה ישמעאל ארי קביל יי צלותיך:
wamr lh mlaka dyy ha ath medya wthldyn br wthqryn shmyh yshmeal ary qbyl yy tslwthyk
Yahweh’s angel said to her, “Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction.

והוא יהא מרוד באנשא הוא יהא צריך לכלא וידא דבני אנשא יהון צריכין ליה ועל אפי כל אחוהי ישרי:
whwa yha mrwd bansha hwa yha tsryk lkla wyda dbny ansha yhwn tsrykyn lyh wel apy kl akhwhy yshry
He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposed to all of his brothers.”

וצליאת בשמא דיי דמתמלל עמה אמרת את הוא אלהא דחזי כלא ארי אמרת הברם הכא שרתי חזיא בתר דאתגלי לי:
wtslyath bshma dyy dmthmll emh amrth ath hwa alha dkhzy kla ary amrth hbrm hka shrthy khzya bthr dathgly ly
She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees,” for she said, “Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

על כן קרא לבארא בארא דמלאך קימא אתחזי עלה הא בין רקם ובין חגרא:
el kn qra lbara bara dmlak qyma athkhzy elh ha byn rqm wbyn khgra
Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. Behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

וילידת הגר לאברם בר וקרא אברם שום בריה דילידת הגר ישמעאל:
wylydth hgr labrm br wqra abrm shwm bryh dylydth hgr yshmeal
Hagar bore a son for Abram. Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
16
ואברם בר תמנן ושת שנין כד ילידת הגר ית ישמעאל לאברם:
wabrm br thmnn wshth shnyn kd ylydth hgr yth yshmeal labrm
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
